ZIndex issue with thumbnails in spry gallery

I am seeing problems with the z-index (zIndex) of the
thumbnails for the gallery demo in IE browsers (IE6 XP and IE7
Vista)... works fine in Firefox and others, of course. If you
reduce the margin around the thumbnails div... the image is "under"
the image to the right or below (when more than one line of
thumbs).
You can see this in your demo, but it's more pronounced if
you change the dimensions of the thumbs and/or reduce the margin in
the #thumbnails div rule.
Any solutions for fixing IE? If it's not possible to fix the
zIndex issue, is it possible to modify how the thumbnail images
are"grown"? so, rather than center out, perhaps grow them from the
bottom right corner, so that they never attempt to overlap other
thumbs to the right or below?
Help appreciated!

I'll try to find it.
In the meantime, I tweaked the script on this LSM example
page so that the
thumbnail rollovers are overlapping the little thumbnails.
That gives you a
clearer picture of them "not going under".

• IE7 issue with Thumbnails div & Overflow

this has to do with layout of the the gallery page and an IE7
CSS issue.
I was playing with the Photo gallery demo and decided to
resize the thumbnails div to get different shape and found an issue
with IE7 and the overflow. if the tumbnail div height is set to say
100px, and set overflow:auto; it makes sense that the thumbnails in
the bottom 3 rows would not be visible unless you scrolled the div.
well it works fine in Firefox but IE draws thumbnails right
over the height boundry and on into the next div below. I thought
IE7 was supposed to fix the CSS hacks needed.
what is the hack to fix this?

It could be a function of how the script is written and
changes being
made at the object-level. Rather than set position to
relative, you
might try using the proprietary Microsoft zoom property to
give the
naughty container layout.
your-container {zoom: 1;}
If that doesn't work, then you can resort to position:
relative.

• How do I fix rotate issue with thumbnail and full size?

When I look at photos in the thumbnail view the rotation is wrong. When I click and view the photo in full screen mode, the picture auto rotates. This is frustrating and I can't figure out how to fix the problem. I've taken a Youtube screen video to showcase the problem. Any suggestions appreciated!

Using iphoto 11 9.2.1

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails.
If that doesn't help:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

• Acrobat 9 Pro issues with thumbnails.

I've noticed the following issues in Acrobat 9 Pro. Any ideas on these would be helpful.
In the thumbnails view, for larger documents, the last page (thumbnail) is always out of view and I can't scroll down any further to see it.
In previous versions, to replace a page, I could drag a page from another PDF and hover over the thumbnail page number. When the thumbnail was highlighted, that page would be replaced with the new one.

thanks Mylenium
the font association problem is something recent though, since I used acrobat to print mails directly from my gmail account previously...
it's galling but I installed a free pdf printer which does the job, I needed copies of these mails urgently !
as to the update issue, I see no aum.exe, msiexec.exe or setup.exe running... but that's quite above my head... do I look for those exact processes or are they generic names for processes ?
does my question make sense ????

• I am still having issues with thumbnails

I have moved iMovie Thumbnails and Cache to the trash, and I have restarted and regenerated my thumbnails. Unfortunately, I could not work within my project after that. After shutting down iMovie again, I lost all my thumbnails again. Not sure what is going on here.

Try trashing iMovie's preference file. When iMovie is next opened, a fresh file with the default settings will be built. See this User Tip by AppleMan1958:

• Issues with spry gallery in a DW template

Hi all,
I have incorporated a spry gallery I originally found at:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/dreamweaver/articles/spry_photo_album_02.html
into my page. This works fine until I save my page as a template. The js seems to dissapear leaving the gallery area blank. The rest of the page is fine.
I understand this tutorial was written for v8 but have no idea why it wont work in a CS4 template.
I even tested the tutorial html by creating a new site and coverting the html file into a template. Gallery doesnt work.
Any help on this would be awesome as the gallery area was to be a main feature on the home page.
Cheers.

• FireFox -- Issue with Spry Gallery

I posted this a few months ago and I was wondering if I could
get an answer.
I want to make the images in the Spry gallery fade out before
a new image fades in. In the current mode the images vanish
instantly followed by a fade-in of the next or previous image.
I have been successful in achieving this effect in IE by
removing the following lines of code in the Gallery.js file (in the
center of the SetMainImage function).
img.style.opacity = "";
img.style.filter = "";
I also changed the background-color of #mainImageOutline in
the css file to #000000 (black). I believe this also resolved the
white speck problem.
Although the fade-out does work properly in IE it does not
work in FireFox. I believe it is the result of the
Spry.Effect.getOpacity or Spry.Effect.getStyleProp functions not
being properly calibrated for Firefox.
quote:
gBehaviorsArray["mainImage"] = new
Spry.Effect.Opacity(img, Spry.Effect.getOpacity(img), 0, {
duration: 400,
In the above line of gallery.js I replaced
"Spry.Effect.getOpacity(img)" by
"1" and that triggered the desired effect for
FireFox although it of course has the habit to set the current
image's opacity to full before fading in to the next image.
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

• Making a simple gallery - issues with frames

Hi there,
Please help!
I'm at the end of my tether with this one.
I am a beginner with Dreamweaver and maybe I'm running before I can walk, but I thought what I am trying to make would be fairly simple. Haha!
I want to make a basic gallery, ie. you click the arrows or the thumbnail buttons and the next image appears within the page but DOESN'T reload to a whole separate page.
I managed to do this using a frameset and thumbnails - the images loaded in the main frame fine - BUT there are 2 issues with this:
1. The link to the homepage I added in the corner loads WITHIN the frameset, and so the homepage is cut off and the thumbnails are still there. I want the link to take the user OUT of the frameset and straight to the homepage (a totally different format, with no frames used) I can't find a way to put this homepage link anywhere outside of the frameset.
2. I cant centre the frameset, or have much control over the layout like I do with tables.
Could this problem be solved using tables? Or any way to solve this simply?
Thanks.
PS. I don't have fireworks, and I don't want to use a downloadable gallery as I want control over how it works/looks, also I dont think it would solve issues 1 and 2 anyway.

I don't understand this comment at all. If you use a downloadable gallery you just edit the skin as you would any other HTML document and make it look like the rest of your site. And usually support communities for those products are fairly helpful for skinning. Learning to code something like this with frames for a first project is a little ambitious but it is heading in a direction that I know you are not looking to go. I have a feeling you like the interactive galleries that pop up and switch from image to image while staying on the same page.
To answer your questions:
1. You need to define the target frame with frames. By default links open within the window they are currently in. See this example: http://webdesign.about.com/od/frames/f/bl_faq4-2.htm
2. Framesets cannot be centered on a page. They are part of the overall page layout and cannot be positioned. If you need to position a frame on a particular part of a page you will need to use iframes: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tag_iframe.asp

• Seeking Spry Gallery mouseovered thumbnail identifier/ID

Hi!
I would like to ask my earlier question about the Dynamic
Image Preview extension in a different way. I think my point was
not clear.
Operating in a Spry gallery of thumbnails with my images in
‘images/’ directory, what is the identifier that will
give the name of the thumbnail image being currently mouseovered
and make it possible to go to the images directory and extract the
main image?
Do I write it as
‘images/{Ds_CurrentRowID}{photoname)’ or ‘images/
+ {Ds_RowID}(photoname}’ or what?
Thanks!
Mike

Hi Don,
Many thanks for your patience!
Latest news:
Good heavens! I put that version up again (
http://www.worldseniorcharityrugby.org/index2.php)
and the third column appears to work for the top image! The images
are too big - I will upload smaller ones.
I see another problem: any ideas why it may not work for the
second or third image? Could it be the numbering in the 'link' part
is replicated by Spry?
I put a version up again - on the page there are 5 images per
record. I am just focusing on the third & fourth of those
images involving {photo3} and {photo4} until I get the answer.
Looking at your site again I think the below is getting a bit
nearer to the answer -
I have put backslashes since it is inside javascript - is
that right?
To put the setCurrentRow before the
'javascript:createPreviewImage ..' would seem to be the best way
but it won't work!
I wonder whether this extension can actually be intregrated
into Spry! I hope it can.

• Spry Gallery, adding content box on thumbnail click

I've attached the html for the page I'm working on. Essentially, it's using the spry gallery. Onclick, the main image is updated dynamically, what I also want to happen onclick, is for a separate DIV with some text in it to be updated with new text. I had thought that by editing the photo.xml and simply adding another tag labeled 'dtext' in each photo area, I could refer back to it. While this does work on the initial page load, it doesn't update onclick.
Thoughts
Website can be viewed here: http://www.thesilversandbox.net/purple/purple_gallery.html
uploaded, a .zip file containing the .html and the photo.xml file being used. You'll note on the web page the blue placeholder section is where I'd like the text to appear and in the .xml file you'll see the 'dtext' tag which I'd like to be where I enter the product descriptions that change on thumbnail click.
Thanks,

Can someone comment on this please? Essentially what I'd like to know is if it's possible, using only the Spry Gallery, to add an additional XML comment into the "photo.xml", which contains some text. Then, call this text upon each thumbnail-click event to have a small description appear when the picture changes.
I realize there are content-widgets for this, but they are heavy, all I want is a little comment box, everything else is working properly.
Thoughts?

• Performance issues with Spry

Hi all,
I'm facing some performance issues with Spry. I'm using it
for handling a menubar acting as a rollover menu : its color
changes under mouse cursor, and a submenu does appear at the same
time.
I have no problem when working with Firefox, but in IE6, it
renders too slowly
Is there something I've missed in the configuration or code
(or is there some tips for this kind of problem) ?
For information, I used UL and LI html tags, and I've
configured Spry to render these as a menubar (with multiple levels)
Thanks for your response

Sorry, there are no public access to this application

hello,
There is a web photo gallery extension called:

You will need a copy of Fireworks to run it though.
Sometimes, I use Photoshop's automate web galelry and then use that file inside of my site.
If have to incorporate it into an existing page, I just copy and paste the code.

• No Thumbs or Main Image with Spry Gallery Demo

Hi everyone, DW CS3 newbie here.
I hope this topic hasn't been beaten into the ground yet.
I'm trying to put together a site
(members.cox.net/rangersbu9/gallery.html) for my son's soccer team
and am running into a wall getting the original, dynamic Spry
gallery demo to work. I've done my best to collect and modify the
required files and place them appropriately but, when the files are
loaded on the live server (the wrap div contents are all but
invisible when I view with IE7 locally, apparently due to the PC
not be set up as local server) the thumbs are 'x's and the main
image is a 1px x 1px dot.
The controls will highlight between the empty thumbs and the
gallery pull-down will select between the two options I've put in
the XML file but that's about it. Perhaps it is my ignorance, but
it seems like a ( src= ) tag is missing in the 'mainImageOutline'
div because I cannot understand where the main picture is coming
from otherwise.
Any insight from the source at the link above? Please keep in
mind I have two week's experience with DW and website building but
do have a programming background (from a few decades ago :->). I
believe I have the un-updated CS3 Spry version, if that matters.
Many thanks to Don and others here for posts that have helped
me get this far.
-Kurt

Update:
Got the thumbs to appear. Had them physically sized larger
than the XML fields stated. However, they will not grow/shrink. In
digging through gallery.js, I see that those two functions call
Spry.Effects.SizeAndPosition() - I cannot find that function in any
of the includes (i.e. SpryEffects.js). Spry.Effects.Size yes, but
not SizeAndPosition. Wondering if this gallery.js calls a later
version of SpryEffects.js than I currently have installed (it's
Spry 1.4). I will download 1.6 and check it out but if anyone has
any other input, please let me know.
Still no main image. In gallery.js I found ShowCurrentImage()
which had a hardcoded path to the images that did not match mine.
Corrected the path but no change.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.

• Photo stream "public website" in Internet Explorer - photo thumbnail's are gray, individual photo view is fine. Tested from various computers. No issue with Firefox, Safari or Chrome.

Dear All,
Recently I have started to use Photo Stream available from iCloud on iPhone device. I have made “test” photo stream with several photos in and set to “public website” in order to share photos with my relatives.
The issue is with Internet Explorer where list of photos (thumbnails) are shown in gray color. I can view photo one by one and slideshow also works fine.
On other computers IE behaves the same way.

No issue with photo list in thumbnails using Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
Can someone help on this issue?
It is very convenient to share photos via photo stream, but most of viewers by default has IE and many of them don’t have iCould account or apple device.
Kind regards,

Dear safari rss
Indeed, you are right, I have updated IE to version 10 and no issue with page view.
Solution woud be to update IE to version 10 (I have not tested IE9).
However users using Windows XP can have highest IE version 8. IE9 or IE10 is not suported in XP.
Unfortunatelly there are still many windows XP at my friends circle.
