  • What to do if there is abrupt termination of RMAN during a backup session

    Hi All,
I am trying to automate the Level 0 and Level 1 backups which we ought to take. Following the is the RMAN related part of it for L1 backup:
    CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP ON;"
CONFIGURE CONTROLFILE AUTOBACKUP FORMAT FOR DEVICE TYPE DISK TO '${BKP_LOCATION}/${LType}_%F';"
    run {"
    allocate channel c1 type disk;"
    backup"
    incremental level 1 cumulative tag = $BTAG"
    format '${BKP_LOCATION}/${LType}_%d_set%s_piece%p_%T_%U.bkp'"
(database include current controlfile tag $CTAG) ;"
sql 'alter system archive log current';"
sql 'alter system archive log current';"
backup archivelog from sequence ${CSEQ} tag $ATAG"
    format '${BKP_LOCATION}/${LType}_Arch_%d_set%s_piece%p_%T_%U.bkp';"
    release channel c1;"
    exit;"
In the above snippet, the variables are substituted for within a shell script and then put into a command file for RMAN. I am a novice in the backup and recovery. I got above piece of code from someone working on RMAN and built my automation logic around it.
The script works fine and I am trying to build to script level recovery feature around it. My question is:
-- What happens if I invoke the script, the backup session starts and then there is abrupt termination of the RMAN session either because of losing the db connection or receiving an interrupt signal or a kill signal or some other weird reason.
-- What if I re-invoke my script? Will it start from the point where it was stopped earlier or would it start from the point where we had last successful Level 1 backup completed?
    Thanks in Advance.

    Hi user781131,
What happens if I invoke the script, the backup session starts and then there is abrupt termination of the RMAN session either because of losing the db
connection or receiving an interrupt signal or a kill signal or some other weird reason? The backup set which rman was creating is not commited due to the abnormal termination but all succesfull backup sets can be used.
What if I re-invoke my script? Will it start from the point where it was stopped earlier or would it start from the point where we had last successful Level 1 backup
completed? In your backup script you do not use the < NOT BACKED UP SINCE TIME > clause so it will again do a level 1 backup off all datafiles.
    See:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta009.htm#i1017236
This option is a convenient way to back up files that were not backed up during a previous failed backup. For example, you back up the database, but the instance fails halfway through. You can restart the backup with the NOT BACKED UP SINCE TIME clause and avoid backing up those files that you already backed up. If AS BACKUPSET is set, then this feature is only useful if RMAN generates multiple backup sets during the backup.

  • FRM-92220: access to system clipboard is denied

    Hi,
Within a customer's application Error FRM-92220 "access to system clipboard is denied" is returned when the customer switches between screens within the application.
I have not been able to find a reference for this error nor am I experienced with Forms.
Can anyone help and give a solution or point into the right direction to help the customer with this error?
    Thanks in advance.
    Peter

As found in the Internal Support Portal:
Ideally, the error FRM-92220 will be thrown due to the the reason that there is a security check introduced by the JRE in one of their updates/upgrades sometime around JRE 1.5 was released. If the System clipboard is accessed by another OS application, then JRE cannot access the clipboard hence resulting in the error. If no OS application (like word or anyother tool ) then you wont have this error. Avoiding this error is not in the hands of Forms, its a question of whether JRE can access the clipboard at that particular moment
In earlier versions like 9.0.4 and 10.1.2, this new security measure by Sun JRE has resulted in Java exceptions and abrupt termination of the JVM in the client machines resulting in Forms disconnection. Hence Forms development introduced the new applet parameter to capture and re-route the messages to the java console
    allowAlertClipboard=true
Setting it to false, will not show these errors and will sent to jre console.
There is very little you can with respect to Forms coding. I would recommend you to set the following
    allowAlertClipboard=false
at the moment when the error comes, the forms process will capture and send it to console. Later, if the System clipboard is released by other processed which were holding it, then the clipboard can be accessed again, there is nothing that you need to do specifically.

  • Hard Drive Encryption Issue

This is in regard to hard drive encryption issues in my USB Hard drive. I have Windows 7. I was encrypting my USB hard drive and
was able to enter a password. However, I did not receive any prompt to save the Bitlocker recovery key.  During encryption process, I received an error. The encryption process was unsuccessful. However, now when I plug-in the hard drive, I receive the
following message on the status bar:
Application and Device Control rule Block writing to removable media. Unencrypted drive found (No_Encrypted_Found) has blocked edpa.exe trying to access Volume
    {e3901a75-f1ff-11e1-817c-806e6f6e6963 alpha-numeric number appearing here}
When I try to open the drive, it asks for a password. When I enter the password, I am receiving the following error message:
Bitlocker Drive Encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion. This could be due to either all conversion logs being corrupted or the media
    being write-protected.
I have read that Bitlocker repair tool can help resolve this issue.
However, I just have the password that I had set to encrypt the drive and Bitlocker recovery key identification. Can this help to get access to my hard drive data  using the Bitlocker tool.

  • Bitlocker on Windows 7 - External drive recovery with unlock password

    Hi,
I am in the unfortunate situation where I have a 3tb external hard drive that I have 2 partitions on. The smaller, 250gb partition was encrypted using bitlocker for work purposes. Now that I have left my previous job, I wanted to decrypt the drive and use
    it normally.
While trying to decrypt, the laptop ran out of battery, and the process was interrupted. In the morning when I tried to unlock the drive, I keep getting the message "Bitlocker Drive Encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion"
Unfortunately, I do not any of the recovery keys (which were in the old work laptop). However, I have the password that I normally use to unlock the drive.
My question is: Is there any way I can use the bitlocker recovery tool to salvage my data using the normal unlock password?
Second, on the off chance that I can, do I need to output the data to an entirely new drive? If I use the option to output to an image file, will that still overwrite all the contents of the output drive?
Any help would be much appreciated. Please let me know if there is any more information I can provide. Thank you!

    Hi,
Have you tried using manage-bde command to decrypt this partition?

  • Bitlocker drive issue

im trying to open my bitlocker drive the password is correct but after entering the password it is giving me a messege that
"bit locker drive encryption failed to recover from an abruptly terminated conversion. This could be due to either all conversion logs being corrupted or the media being write-protected"
plz help me all my work iv saved in this drive

    Hi
    repair-bde C: Z: -rp 062612-026103-175593-225830-027357-086526-362263-513414
    Use repair-bde alone first
it should give you some information about bitlocker.
    the full command explaination :
C: is the drive that your data is on that you want to recover
z: is the drive you want to copy the recovered data to
after -rp switch you have to type in your recovery password.
you can use -rk and specify recoverykey file location after.
    ex: repair-bde C: Z: -rk F:\RecoveryKey.bek
    Have fun Recovering :P

    Deborah,
I really don't think I installed Enterprise Manager Server. I have looked everywhere for the emca configuration assistant and it is just not there. I am running version 3 of oracle 8.1.7 enterprise edition, and I did not remember seeing enterprise manager server on the list of products that would be installed. I did remember seeing enterprise manager components. I am going to try and install again on a different machine and see if enterprise manager server is part of the install.

  • Help with Enterprise Manager v9.2

While using Enterprise Manager console (with Windows XP), I have experienced abrupt termination by the Client/Console when I try to view tables within the Schema section (by clicking on a table name)...it just closes on screen before my eyes. This does not happen with all Service names defined, just some. It also does not happen with version 9.1. Has anyone experienced this? Is there a fix that you know of?
    Thanks in advance.

    Follow-up:
    1. No amount of tweaking the installation and naming has changed the behavior. The OEM v9.2 console application crashes when accessing table definitions -- no pop-up with an oracle or java error.
    2. I installed the Win 817 client (sans symcjit.dll) and DBAstudio performs as expected, i.e. one can access the table definitions without incurring an error that is not handled gracefully (pop-up with error message).
This is all very curious since there don't seem to be too many posts on the topic

  • How to keep socket alive

    Dear All Java Devotees....
I was stucked upon the following socket programming challenge in my projects
first of all I have one Server and one Client
what I wanted initially was client registered to server
when the client abruptly terminated, it wont have any effect at all to the server
But in line with the Java Socket Programming Tutorial
it seems that it cant be done so easily
whenever I close down my client
Server will catch java.net.SocketException: Connection reset
    so my question basically :
Is it possible for the Server to keeps iterating in a loop
while listening for a client to register
but here is the catch, I dun want anything severe happen to the Server
when somebody close down the Client abruptly
If possible I would like the server to keep its normal program flow
I mean sort of roll-back to the state before the exception occured
My punchline is to "keep the server program flow"
Any Idea/snippet will be greatly appreciated....
    best regards,
    Honggo

    Hi Joey
    sorry I've misled you
I've managed to solve the problem though
but now facing a new problem
I will be grateful if u come across the same problem
    here is the scenario:
    1. client starts
    2. server stars
    3. client & server bound to socket
    4. client sending some information to server
    5. server stops
I've followed your suggestion to use for loops and spawn a new thread for each accepted socket
it's a very simple & helpful idea, but as I observer i hit some shortcomings. I wish you could enlighten me with snippet of code, perhaps :D
after steps 5 which is when the server stops, client is unaware that server has already dead.
i've tried every methods described in the API (e.g. isClosed, isConnected, etc) but client didnt catch exception when client is sending some infomation to the "deceased" server.
So my question: How to detect whether or not the server is dead (in client).
    regards,
    Honggo

    Hi Remon,
Repair-bde would be a chance for a damaged drive. But Repair-bde cannot repair a drive that failed during the encryption or decryption process.
You can test this command in your environment to repair your drive:

  • Acrobat X Wont Start

I have Acrobat X as part of CS6. Seemed to work fine since installation. Two days ago, it stopped working, won't open. I tried the fixes listed in this forum. No luck.
    Can Adobe help please.
    Thanks,
    Bill Byrnes

@ Manish-Sharma - That kb article is particularly lame since the aspects of "trial" are not visible... at least to this user - NOTHING is visible!
    Acrobat doesn't launch.
On May 19th I downloaded and installed the update from CS 5.5 Design Premium to CS 6 Premium on my Win 7 Pro 64-bit machine.
On June 19th Acrobat X Pro died and with its passing we learn ...
We learn that even with CS 4 AND CS 5.5 (full extended Design suites still resident on my system) Acrobat in its earlier incarnations is AWOL.
Overtly doing a separate download and install (10.1.3) had no effect.
Doing the cache.db rename game (see @ 36. by Evadobe1 in thread http://forums.adobe.com/message/4504991#4504991)  that reportedly was dreamed up by Adobe as a work around only worked temporarily for a limited number of launch / exit cycles ... maybe about 6 or so cycles.
The only symptom which has presented has been the abrupt termination of the application functioning coincident with the expiration a 30-day period from installation of the CS6 upgrade.
So Manish-Sharma, I will happily try what Jimbo has outlined (http://forums.adobe.com/message/4492856#4492856) while we all wait for Adobe to 1) fix the problem and 2) deal with what will likely become a tsunami of complaints.
    @ Jim - thank you
    Kind regards,
    Kelly

    HELP!!!!
    thanks

I am experiencing the same problem. There seems to be a horrible bug in the installer program. No problems are reported
at the end of the install log. But earlier I find messages such as:
    Festlegen des Wertes f|r PROD_HOME zu /oracle9201/../oui
oracle.swd.oui Produktverzeichnis: Das Verzeichnis /oui konnte nicht erstellt werden. Entweder haben Sie nicht die erforderlichen Berechtigungen oder der Datentrdger verf|gt nicht |ber ausreichend Speiche
For some strange reason it seems to use /oracle9201 as base here instead of $ORACLE_HOME which is /oracle9201/product/home. But of course the / directory is not writable for the oracle user.
The backslashes do not look good either. And again for some reason it does not use ORACLE_HOME as base directory here. Moreover the system has installed some things twice, in $ORACLE_HOME AND in /oracle9201. I think there is a problem in the installation program that uses the wrong path for some base directory. It can probably be overcome by giving oracle access to the / directory and then later copying these files into ORACLE_HOME. But who wants to give oracle-User access to / directory?
