Accessing a AB ControlLogix Ethernet Bridge in LabVIEW

We have some AB SLC500 series PLCs that are currently reporting to our SCADA system (a P3 running NT 4 and an Access DB-- haha) via a DH+ network.  I'm researching the possibility of updating this system using LabVIEW.  We recently bought a ControlLogix system that acts as a gateway between the DH+ network and an Ethernet network, but now I need to figure out how to access and read the data in LabVIEW.  So far, I've figured out that I need to use the IA OPC Server software, then use the DSC module as a OPC client to connect to the tags.  Is this way off?  Any assistance/advice and/or links to tutorials, manuals that may be helpful would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Haggerty,
That is correct. You can use IA OPC Servers (or any OPC server that supports your PLC for that matter) to make the data items available over OPC to LabVIEW, which is an OPC client.
You can find some more information and a link to a nice DSC 8 tutorial/presentation here:

Hope this helps.

  • Labview 2011 always disconnecting over wireless Ethernet bridge!

Hello, we recently upgraded from labview 2009 to labview 2011. We use a Labview cRio-9014 and FPGA backplane 9114. For connecting the cRio to our laptop we use Digi XPress Ethernet Bridge: Multipoint 900MHz industrial wireless part# XEB09. This program worked over our wireless link running labview 2009 with the old cRio software.
After upgrading the desktop, upgrading the cRio's software and recompiling the FPGA code we tested our setup via a wired ethernet connection and ran it all day with no problems. However once we switched to using our wireless ethernet bridges the cRio disconnects always 2-3 minutes after starting. It also does not allow us to reconnect without powercycling the cRio. The radio modems show a solid connect and no problems the whole time. Now I've searched through known issues and all over the forums without finding anyone having a similar issue so I hope someone can chime in and let me know if something else in LV2011 changed or what.
My current hypothesis is that labview 2011 uses UDP packets for status/keep-alive and our radio modems are not guaranteed to recieve all UDP packets. Please correct me since this is only a guess and I don't know what's going on under the hood on the cRio side.
P.S. I've captured the packet data using WireShark on the laptops side from deployment until disconnection but can't find any obvious problems. It's a fairly large file so let me know if it's needed and I'll try to find a way to upload it.
    Hopefully someone can help.

  • Apple TV as an Ethernet Bridge

I currently have an Airport Extreme (802.11g) router next to my cable modem. In the living room I have an Airport Express which is acting as a music streaming device, as well as an ethernet bridge for my xbox 360. I can't remember how I set it up, something about expanding my airport network. But the airport express shares the wireless internet connection over ethernet so the xbox 360 can access xbox live.
Anyway, I'd like to have my Apple TV do the same thing. I'd like to have my apple TV sync and access the internet wirelessly and share the internet connection over ethernet for the xbox 360 much like the Airport Express has been doing for a year.
    Is this possible?

Apple TV will not do that, it is not a router similar to the Extreme or the Express.

  • How do you determine the IP address of an ethernet bridge?

I've got a US Robotics ethernet bridge connected to a Mac running OS 10.3.9, and I'm trying to access the bridge's web browser interface. (Once I get to that interface, I'll be home free.)
The bridge does not have a default IP address, the connection software on its CD-ROM is PC-only, and USR tech support is baffled. So how can I find out its address?
I've tried looking in System Preferences -> Network, in System Profiler and in Network Utility, but it appears that they only display the computer's address, not the bridge's.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    iMac G3   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

I presume you are taking about the USR5430?
No, it's the USR5432, which unfortunately doesn't have a default IP address (unlike the 5430). The USR site has this to say about connecting to the 5432:
    Macintosh and Linux Users
The networking device that the Bridge is connected to probably has some form of Web User Interface where you can view a client list. Refer to your networking device's documentation to determine how to view this information.
When you find the client list, locate the Bridge. You can do this by verifying the LAN MAC address that is on the bottom label of the Bridge and what appears in the client list. Write down the IP address of the Bridge for future reference.
Open a Web browser, type in the IP address of the Bridge, and then press Enter. This will open the Web User Interface of the Bridge.
The bridge only has an IP address when it is in
    configuration mode.
That makes sense. And I am in fact trying to locate the bridge's address in order to configure it.
Nevertheless, thank you for the suggestion.

  • Setting up router with ethernet bridge

I have a new computer and want to re-setup my Linksys Model BEFSX41 Version 2 broadband firewall router with the Linksys Model WET11 wireless-b ethernet bridge to use my laptop wirelessly.  I don't want the desktop pc to be wireless, just the laptop.  Do I follow the steps in the FAQ "Hos do I setup my Cable modem with my Linksys Router?".  Then are there more instructions for the ethernet bridge?
The pc is in the basement with the cable modem and Linksys router.  The ethernet bridge is upstairs where the laptop is.  Is this easy enough do to, or am I better off paying $75 to a computer tech to come to my house to do it?
    Thank you for any suggestions.
    Diane

You cannot do the job that you described with the equipment that you listed.
It is not clear from your note how you intend to use the WET11.  A wireless bridge is designed to receive a wireless signal (from a wireless router) and send it to a computer that is wired to the WET11.
For example, the following setup would work:
    modem -- wireless router )))      ((( Wet11 -- computer
but you never mentioned that you have a wireless router.
Note that your WET11 cannot broadcast a network, for example, the following DOES NOT work:
    modem -- BEFSX41 -- WET11 )))      ((( wireless computer
However, instead of (incorrectly) trying to use the WET11 to broadcast a network, you could use a WAP (wireless access point) to broadcast your network.   For example, the following would work:
    modem--BEFSX41--WAP )))   ((( wireless computer
                                      and/or   ((( WET11--wired computer
    For a WAP, you could use a WAP54G or a WAP200.
    Hope this helps.

  • Web-based utility will not load on new wet54g ethernet bridge

I just got a WET54g ethernet bridge to connect my bluray player to my existing network (wrt54gs router).  I cannot get the setup cd to recognize the bridge connected to the laptop or the router.  I thought that it would be no problem, just use web-based set-up.  When attempting to access 192.168.1.226 I have to enter the password three times and then a blank page is loaded.  Chat support ended up getting disconnected, so no luck there.  Supposedly some of the steps chat wallked me through updated the firmware through ftp download, but I feel like nothing was done since you can't access the set-up page. Any suggestions are welcome.  I'm running vista if that helps.

Start it from Scratch...Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your WET54G(ethernet bridge), wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your WET54G(ethernet bridge)...Follow the link here to re-configure the WET54G(ethernet bridge)...Also under the configuration type select Static IP Address : For IP Address enter : 192.168.1.226, Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 and save the settings...
After doing these you can unplug the Ethernet Bridge from the router and power cycle your router and the ethernet bridge both...Connect your ethernet bridge to your bluray player and test for active connection...

  • Connecting WAG320n to WRT610n using WET610n ethernet bridge

I have upgraded my network with a WAG320n Router/modem and have a WET610n (ethernet bridge) in my remote room.  Because the WET is only one port, I would like to connect my old WRT610n router to the bridge, but need to know the right settings and connection info.  The purpose is to use the additional ports and wireless from the remote location.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Problem solved and improved on
    Thanks Klatch,
The WAG320n is nice, but not simultaneous dual band, so I set it for 5Ghz.  I hard wired an accesspoint (WAP610n) to the router, set it for 2.4Ghz, and placed it about 3 meters apart from the Router.  This gave me better access on the second floor for all devices with either bands.  (I gave the access point it's own SSID to distinguish it).
To expand coverage to the first floor I installed the wireless N Ethernet Bridge (WET610N) on the fringe range of my routers output (still 4 bars).  The bridge is set to 5Ghz - because that's what the WAG320 is.  Then I connected the WRT610N router (which is simultaneous dual band) to the bridge.  You plug the bridge into a LAN port on the WRT610N, NOT the WAN port.  The WRT610 was programmed to 192.168.1.2, DHCP turned off, NAT disabled.  I have the other 3 WAN ports hard wired to devices (Playstation, Slingbox, Blue Ray Player).  All other first floor PC's are connected wirelessly via the 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ bands.  The first floor coverage is excellent.   I maintained different SSID's for each Router and the Access Point, to distinguish which router or band I want to connect to.
If linksys only made the WAG320 simultaneous dual band, it would provide the extended coverage to all older and newer devices!!    The whole world isn't wrapped around 5Ghz yet!  So..  If you want to extend and use another router as a repeater (wirelessly) you need a wireless Ethernet Bridge (or gaming adaptor) from the primary router and connect it to the secondary router.   Anything can be done with a little effort.  Thanks

  • Help -Can't print to my HP LaserJet via Ethernet Bridge

I have a new MacBook Pro with OS X 10.4.5. I'm trying to print with my old HP Laserjet 4MP Postcript printer. The printer is an old serial port printer connected to an Asante Ethernet Bridge with an Ethernet cord that plugs into my computer. This has worked fine for years on my G4 with OS 10.3. But, as soon as I try to use the same connection with the same settings on my new MBP, I get nothing.
Printer Setup finds the drivers for this printer no problem. Connected via AppleTalk. However, when I send something to print it never prints. The printer window just keep saying "Waiting for Job to Complete..."
Any ideas why I can't print. I've repaired permissions and I search other forums, but other people seem to be able to print like this???
Or, are there any alternative drivers that I could use to access this printer?
    Thanks!
    Laura

I don't have an answer but can suggest a couple of things. I use an old HP Laserjet 2100 with built-in ethnernet. I don't use Appletalk to print but IP printing. Your bridge must have a TCP/IP address. You might be able to use IP printing to send directly to that. Another idea is maybe you need to enable Appletalk on the MBP. By default it's disabled you can turn it on in the networking panel. You might already have that so I'm not sure if that would help. One last thing might if you have the firewall on in the sharing preferences that could be blocking it also.

  • Ethernet Bridge for Powerbook Titanium G4 instead of Airport

I have a macintosh titanium G4 powerbook that can only take an airport card, not airport extreme. I decided instead that I should buy a ethernet bridge. Can I buy a bridge that will access the internet at 54 kbps and then use an ethernet wire to my laptop? If so, will this give me 802.11g speed? Can anyone recomend such a bridge (e.g. linksys)? Thanks

Since you have a portable laptop (PowerBook), I would think a compatible 802.11g PCMCIA card would be the best solution.
    Let's take a step back...
802.11b is probably faster than your internet connection. Therefore changing to 802.11g won't give you faster internet access.
802.11g will only increase the speed of large file transfers between computers on your network.

  • AEBS and AExpress N ethernet bridge disconnects when I sleep MBP??

Hi all this is my first post but im a long time mac user having grown up in a mac house.
anyways im an it guy by profession and ive been working at this issue to no avail so I figured I might come on there and see if any of you have experienced this issue
the issue I get is that when I close/sleep my MBP it disconnects the Airport Express ethernet bridge clients
    NETWORK Info
I run a small business from my home thus I have FiOS (yay 20/20) with a block of 13 static ips that i distribute via DHCP and MAC reservation to allow remote access to my network as well as keep things consistent.
I currently run cat6 from my FiOS ONT to my Airport Extreme Base Station, which i use on a strict N only in 5ghz range as my area is flooded with b/g networks but no n networks (yay again).
I recently acquired an N Airport Express to provide a wireless to ethernet bridge thus extending my network to my entertainment center (ps3 xbox etc)
(extra info: im using n here because i found that b/g limits my internet connection speeds to 7-9 mbps where as my connection is capable of 20. On my n speed network I can get my full bandwidth wirelessly, yes I know there is obviously some bandwidth and throughput loss by going wireless but not as much as a b/g network was giving me)
    NETWORK SETTINGS
On my n network I distribute a range of IP addresses from my static block. I have tried a few different dhcp lease times which definitely improved my initial problem which seemed that it would log me out when the key rotated every 20 min. Currently ive bumped that up to 1 day (i know not as secure id like to set it back to 20min but it seems that when it rotates that it logs me out) and haven't had that specific issue revolving around key rotation again. ive tried the WDS, Extend a network and join a network options with no real difference in behavior when I shut my laptop and for example my GF is playing rock-band online she gets disconnected also worth noting that it seems there is an intermittent DNS issue on the express ie cant find time server even though at that time ethernet clients are able to connect and get dns response
Below is my log from my express base station when the disconnect occurs

  • WLC ethernet bridge

    Hi,
I've a WLC 2106 and it is running IOS version 7.0.240. I am trying to setup a wireless mesh and used the ethernet bridge port on the MAP to extend the network. The wireless mesh works fine but I can not get the switch to work that is connected to the ethernet port on the MAP.
I'm using two different Access points. I'm using a Air Cap 3502i as the RAP and a Air Lap1142N as the MAP.
The switch port that is connected to the RAP and MAP is configured as the following:
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport trunk native vlan 2
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 10,20,30,40
The RAP etherbridge port is enable and set to: normal
The MAP etherbridge port is enable and set to: Trunk,
native vlan is set to: 2
    Vlan id 10
    Vlan id 20
The wireless mesh between the RAP and MAP works fine. I can connect a device to the MAP wirelessly and access the network with no problem but I can not get anything to work that connects to the switch that is connected to the MAP ethernet port.
Could someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?

I would open a TAC case as this is a bug. I don't recall what code it stopped working but I know it doesn't work also in the v7.3 & v7.4

  • Ethernet Bridge?

    Hello,
I no longer have a network card or an internet account. There is a public access point close by I would like to use.
I have an wrt54g v2.0(latest firmware). Can I connect my computer to it and then use the 54g to connect to the AP.
    Is that an ethernet bridge?
I read many of the other posts about this but didn't understand.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you!

    dmo ,
The wrt54g dont have a bridging capabilities... sorry to inform you, But i think you can purchase a WET54G it is a bridge where it can connect to a Access Point...

  • Airport Express Ethernet Bridging

I have a Mac mini connected to my flat panel TV and I used to use a Graphite base station to connect to it from my iBook G4, naturally the iBook can see the mini but not vice versa (**** Apple firmware).
I have an Airport Express that I stopped using as a print server and wanted to hook it up the same way I had the Graphite Base Station, HOWEVER, it doesn't work. It SAYS in the Airport Admin Utility that Airport to Ethernet bridging is supposed to be in effect, BUT, it doesn't work the way the Graphite Base Station does. Is this another example of Apple creating an artificial limitation in a product, or will this work?
    iBook G4 1.33   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Mid-2005 Model

I have tried this and it does work. You can do this manually from the station you want to use as the relay, but it is a royal pain. Let Airport Admin do the work; set up the relay from the main base station.
To enable bridging mode on the express (ie: the express is connected to a machine with ethernet and you want to then connect the express to the main base so the machine has internet access)
Install your main and remote base stations and power them up (easiest if the remote is reset to factory state)
Launch Airport Admin Utility and connect to the main base station for your network.
On the "WDS" tab, enable the station as a WDS main base station and allow wireless clients.
Click the "+" button to add a remote base station and select your airport express. Leave checked, or check the "Auto configure..." box.
    Click "OK" then "Update"
Read and enter the requested information on the drawer that appears; you are setting information for the remote/bridging station.
Wait for the stations to restart and build the network (about 1-2 minutes).

  • Ethernet Bridging - Client DHCP issue

    Good Afternoon,
We are having a strange issue taht i am sure others have run into before.
Currently we have a WLC 5508 with 2 1552 Outdoor Mesh APs running code 7.4.100.0.
We one configured as RAP and one as MAP. This is essentially setup just as a backhaul (trunk link). We ahve the RAP setup as Normal and the MAP setup for Trunk. We have configured to pass all VLANs we need (pruning). The mesh link works as expected the only issue is when we try to connect a client to a access port (VLAN 18)  on a switch the MAP side (ethernet bridged). We are unable to get a IP address assigned.
However. We can statically configure an address in that network and Unicast traffic works just fine. It appears the broadcast traffic is not making it across the Mesh link.
    Thoughts?

With mesh, you do not need to enable ethernet bridging at all.  All the traffic should tunnel back to the WLC as if the mesh ap was a local mode ap.  Make sure that if you are using AP Groups that the WLAN to vlan mappings are correct.  The other thing is that you should be on v7.4.121.0 and also make sure you have uploaded the latest FUS 1.9.0.0 onto the WLC for stability.  I have mesh networks on both v7.4.121.0 and v7.6.120.0, working just fine.

  • HT4259 Is it still possible to configure an AirPort Extreme as a Wireless/Ethernet bridge?

    Hi,
I have a 4th generation 3TB Time Capsule as my primary wireless device.  I have tried configuring my 4th gen AirPort Extreme as a bridge (passive wireless to Ethernet bridge, not active wireless router) and despite two firmware resets, am unable to do so with either Airport Utility 6.1 or 5.6.1.  I am using a retina MacBook Pro with 10.8.2 to run the Airport Utility.  I know this used to work with earlier versions of the AirPort Extreme firmware (currently 7.6.1 for both devices) and earlier versions of the Airport Utility, because I have done it before and it has worked fine, although I haven't tried this for more than 3 years.  Is it still possible to do this, or am I missing something?

If you are correct about not being able to configure the Extreme as a bridge then I guess I'm stuck with running the Extreme in extend mode.
We only answer questions when we've tested it ourselves.  But, you can prove to yourself that the AirPort Extreme cannot act as a simple wireless to Ethernet bridge by trying to configure it to "join" a wireless network. You will see that the Ethernet ports are not enabled in this type of setup.
Configuring the AirPort Extreme to "extend" a wireless network will enable the Ethernet ports. I'm sure that you understand that although the Extreme has Gigabit Ethernet ports, the "Ethernet" signal that appears at the LAN ports will only be as fast as the wireless connection to the AirPort Extreme allows.
Perhaps surprisingly, the best that Cisco has to offer in terms of a wireless to Ethernet bridge is an 802.11b/g device with 100 Mbps Ethernet ports. Netgear does a bit better at least offering 802.11n capability, but still 100 Mbps ports.
The AirPort adapter or a USB wireless adapter might be the simplest way to go if you are concerned about adding an additional wireless access point. Good luck.
