Calculations not working in Reader Enabled PDF Form

I created a basic Excel spreadsheet and imported it into Acrobat 11 to make a fillable form. Acrobat inserted most of the fields but I had to add some to complete the form. I went into the properties of the fields and set up the calculations using the standard Acrobat calculations. I want the product of field1, field2. When I preview the form, the calculations work. I then close the form for editing and save as reader extended PDF with more tools. When I open the pdf in reader the calculations do not work. I then researched many possibilities on the forums and even called adobe twice with no resolution. I was able to import a blank excel spreadsheet, then created three new fields with calculations and they worked in reader when I saved the form as a reader extended pdf with more tools. So my question is where does my problem originate? Is the problem with the excel spreadsheet or excel formatting ( Excel 2013)? Is the problem with Acrobat 11? When I asked the support tech at Adobe he said that he hasn't heard of this problem before. I have spent hours and hours on this, I have created new forms from scratch and even on different versions of word and acrobat. I figured these calculations should work, am I wrong? ( I have also tried using every calculation option including JavaScript). Thanks in advance for any help.

It's hard to say without seeing a sample. If you can post one somewhere, I'd be happy to test it out. If you can't post somewhere, you can email me at: acroscript at gmail dot com

I have Reader Enabled PDF forms created in Acrobat 10. Is there away to NOT allow the user to save the PDF form with data UNLESS the user has completed the form in entirety. I want the user to be forced to provide all the information before they can save the form.

  • Extended Rights not working in Reader X - resetting form

    Hi,
To make the problem clear i will put it in steps
    1. I have a form created in LiveCycle Designer.
    2. I save it in two ways: as a static and dynamic file pdf. (to test both options)
    3. I reopen it in Adobe Acrobat
    4. Save it as a copy with extended rights -> enabling other  functions.
    5. Reopen it in Reader - fill it with data and save it as two files - one as a copy of original document and 2nd as the same file. (to test both options)
    6. I reopen it in Reader and the data is not there - the form is empty.
    7. Funny thing is when i open it in Photoshop the data is there. When i open it in Ilustrator it is not.
The form is simple, just 3 text fields, one required, one optional and one recommended.
Please help, I've been fighting this for a day now. I have created more advanced forms in the past and did not have issues like this one.
    Thanks!

    Additional info regarding this issue:
I am testing it on my PC. We have the creative cloud license so all is updated and complete. I was testing it in different ways, saving all the versions (static, dynamic, with and without extended rights) and the problem sticks. I have noticed that the file with extended rights weight a bit more than original file. Details below:
    1. straight from livecycle: 832KB
    2. opened in Acrobat, saved as copy 832KB
    3. opened in Acrobat, saved with extended rights 844KB
    4. opened in Reader, saved with filled data 864KB
    5. opened the same file with Reader, it is empty so i save it as a copy - 864KB
    6. opened it in Reader & Acrobat - it's empty; opened it in Photoshop - all data is there...???

    Hi,
It is not possible to reader enable a form in LC Designer.
LC Designer is part of a suite of server components (LiveCycle Enterprise Suite). Adobe have a component called LC Reader Extensions ES, which can be used to reader enable a form and maintain full functionality. But it is expensive (being intended for large organisations).
Here is a summary of ways to deploy a form and the limits on functionality. It covers not reader enabling a form / enabling it using Acrobat / enabling it using LC Reader Extensions ES.
Now if you reader enable a form using Acrobat, certain functions are turned off, including communications to and from databases.
    Hope that helps,

  • Unable to submit a Reader-enabled PDF: "This operation is not permitted"

Hi I've looked through the forums but haven't found an answer to this particular query: I've created a simple form (text boxes, radio buttons, and a submit button which should send the entire PDF to an email address). I have tried different options:
Reader enabled the form, then saved it and emailed a copy to a friend to test. When he clicked on "submit" he received the error "this operation is not permitted". Unfortunately I didn't ask what version of Reader he has. The form was created in Adobe Acrobat X.
Did not reader-enable the form, but opened it with Adobe Reader XI. When I click on submit I get a "server connection error". I'm using Gmail, Chrome and Windows 7 (I went to Start > Default Programs and was able to associate "MAILTO" with Chrome, but there is no option to actively choose Gmail as my mail client). p.s. Before submitting the form I checked and my internet connection is up and running.
I tried to submit the form from Acrobat X and I get a similar error, "Acrobat is unable to connect to your email program".
There are no unembedded fonts or hidden objects in the PDF.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Melissa

Submitting forms by email isn't really submitting. In my view it's a useful quick test, but not suitable for production use. For reasons you've already discovered. A particularly bad case is where a user uses GMail (or whatever) but has a WORKING email client that accepts the mail; but then it goes nowhere because they never set it up.
Submit really means "send to a web server" (where a script written by a professional will handle the data). Like the forms on every web site.
Web sites COULD "submit by email" too, but they don't because it isn't any good.
(Caveat: some big companies control the email set up exactly, and it can work for them.)

  • Form not working in Reader X

    Hello,
I created a form in Acrobat Professional 8, and it works perfectly. When I send it to someone using Adobe Reader X they can not type in the fields or use the submit button. Any ideas on what the problem could be?
I have reader enabled the form, and tried exporting it as an FDF as I have read on other threads, and its still not working.
    Thanks in advance!

  • The "portable document format" icon is a Word 2010 icon, so selecting Adobe Reader as action does not work to display the PDF.

In the Applications tab -- Content Type -- the "portable document format" icon is a Word 2010 icon (not Adobe), so selecting Adobe Reader or preview in Firefox as action does not work to display the PDF. I can see this Applications difference because my other Firefox laptop has the Adobe icon, and I can view PDFs. Essentially, a PDF is coming in as a Word document -- and the computer tries to open it up as a Word file.
How do I get the correct PDF icon in the Applications list -- the same way it displays (and works) on my other laptop.

Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape 10.1.7 ?
I think you need to add this to the list of applications and the action to take on the type of content. This can also be managed in the about:permissions page. [[Permissions Manager - Give certain websites the ability to store passwords, set cookies and more]]

  • Acrobat Form Submit button not working with Reader

I created a form using Acrobat Pro 9 with a submit button function. When I email the form to users they are only allowed to submit the form if they have Acrobat Standard or Pro. For users that have Acrobat Reader they are able to open complete the fields and print the document but are unable to use the submit function. They receive the following message "This operation is not permitted".
I need all Adobe users including Reader to be able to submit this form. How do I fix this?
    Help is greatly appreciated!!

You need to Reader-enable the form in Acrobat by selecting: Advanced > Extend Features in Adobe Reader
This is because the form needs to be saved before it is attached to an email, and Reader normally cannot save a modified form. Reader 11 is able to save a modified form, however.

  • Simple calculations not working in acrobat 9

I have text form fields made in Acrobat 9 from a previously made pdf, where I need a simple calculation, but I cannot get it to work.
The form is not for submission, only for personal tracking, so I don't even need validation.
FieldA (a number they enter) x a number I have entered in the calculation = FieldB
FieldB x FieldC (a number they enter) = FieldD In FieldB I have a simple javascript Calculation in the form field: FieldA * .115, which should automatically calculate answer into FieldB, when tabbed.
In FieldD I have a Calculation in the form field: FieldB * FieldC, which should automatically calculate answer into FieldD. All fields are set as numbers.
I have left the Trigger Action as Mouse Up.
I don't need to validate, as this is personal use, and is not being submitted.
I have all fields in the correct tab order.
I have reader enabled the form. When I open the form in Reader, I can enter the numbers, but no calculations are being performed. It reads 0 in FieldB and FieldD. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Everyone,
I use the following VBS code, but to tell the truth, I don't know if it works or not. The main idea was to enable commenting from Adobe Reader. But after execution code, saving document and reopening it in Reader, commenting is still 'Not Allowed'. Is showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab really capable to allow this and there is only error in my code? Or is the functionality different and this way can never be used for what I want?
There is another issue that application is not closed on Exit, but is still shown.
    scriptPath = "C:\Acrobat\"
    Set gApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
    Set pdDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.PDDoc")
    sampleFilePath = scriptPath & "AR_test_orig.pdf"
    pdDoc.Open sampleFilePath
    pdDoc.OpenAVDoc "myFile"
    gApp.Show
    Set formApp = CreateObject("AFormAut.App")
    'formApp.Fields.ExecuteThisJavascript "app.alert(""hello"");"
    formApp.Fields.ExecuteThisJavascript "Collab.showAnnotToolsWhenNoCollab = true;"
    Set formApp = Nothing
    pdDoc.Save 1, scriptPath & "AR_test.pdf"
    'pdDoc.Close
    gApp.CloseAllDocs
    gApp.Exit
    Set pdDoc = Nothing
    Set gApp = Nothing
    Thanks for any ideas.

  • Reader enabled PDF won't save to Word

    Hi,
I'm sorry if I'm not putting this question in the right place, but I can't find a better location.
We have a PDF that's reader enabled for editing with the typewriter tool, and we want to save it as a Word document.  Whenever File > Save as >  Word doc is clicked, we get a message that Acrobat has stopped working.  This is only with this particular PDF, as we've tried 'plain' ones that converted beautifully.
How can I save the reader-enabled PDF as a plain PDF?
    Thank you!

    Thanks for replying!
There is no 'Save a copy' in the File menu; maybe that option is just in
Acrobat, not Reader.  I solved it, though; what I did was print to Adobe
PDF.  As we know, that doesn't actually print anything, it just saves; and
it was saved as a plain PDF!  Well, that was a lesson learned...and enabled
    PDF cannot be converted.
    Thanks anyways!

  • Share  calculation  Not working in the report

Iam surprised not to ge the simple share calculation not working at my report.
I have a dimension and corresponding values ( measures) .I made a Total at the end of the report. and I want to calcualte share of Total to each corresponding value.
how to do this, any thougts,...
I have used calculated memebers for this, But I wan to make the percentage of the total ( which is calculated inside Tool itself)
    Please help....

    Prassad,
Not totally sure what you are trying to achieve but there a couple of possible solutions:
    1) Total = total of all dimension members. Assuming you only have three dimension members then you should have a fourth member called ALL_DIMS or something similar. In the Share calculation template you need to specify the Total level as the basis for your share calc. This will generate the following result:
                             Revenue  % Share
    - All Members     600         100%
         A                  100           17%
         B                  200           33%
C                  300           50%2) The total you are referring to is in fact a sub total and is the result of adding together only the results for A + B + C, i.e. you have hundreds of dimension members but you specifically want to see a total for just these three members. To do this create a new custom aggregate call "My Total" and add together the dimension members A + B + C - Custom Aggs are a new feature to Discoverer OLAP (Checkout Mark Rittman's excellent blog article for more information on this feature: http://www.rittmanmead.com/2006/11/13/checking-out-the-new-discoverer-101220-features/)
Then in the Share calculation wizard set the basis for your index using the last option in the list "Specific Dimension Member" and select your new custom aggregate member.
    Hope this helps

  • Preview not saving check boxes in PDF forms

For some reason 10.6's preview will not save check boxes in PDF forms, you can click them but as soon as you save them they disappear.

I'm having the exact problem. I have a fillable PDF form that has many checkboxes. Saving the pdf (doesn't matter whether it's 'Save', 'Save All', or 'Save As' under the File menu) will clear/reset the checkboxes in the file.
Anyone know of a workaround for this? Or, is Apple fixing this soon? I really don't want to get Acrobat Pro 9 (well, I don't think it's compatible with Snow Leopard yet anyway)
If you'd like a sample PDF file to try it out, let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application

Why are bookmarks not working in multi-document PDF application when uploaded to the web? We created a multi-document PDF application. All bookmarks and links work on our systems. All work on the customer's system. They do not work when uploaded to the customers website. Their IT department says its an issue of relative vs. absolute addressing. We've created applications like this for years without running into this issue. Can't find anything about it in Acrobat Help. Can anyone help or lead me to help? Thx much, Sandy

Have you tried opening the file in your browser to see if the bookmarks are working?  To open the file in your browser you need to do this:
    1) Launch your favorite browser;
    2) File >> Open >> Select your pdf file
See this picture to see what I am talking about.  You might need to click on it to magnify it:
    Good luck.
