Cannot connect to intranet at work.

I just brought the first Mac into our business and love it but there are some challenges. Our Intranet is hosted in an internal server and is an asp.net site. I can not connect to it like everyone does from the inside just by typing the server name into the browser. I tried the actual IP address and that didn't work. I can access it when I use the outside address and it works fine. With the windows machines in the building many times they add an entry to the HOST file but I cant seem to find one on the mac. I shouldn't need the host file.
I forgot to mention that I am on the domain and can navigate to the server in question and look at the files and I have full access without any question. Another question, My computer isn't listed in the list of comptuers. Why is that?

Hi
Select Go to Folder from the Go Menu. In the address field key in:
/etc
Click Go. You're now looking at etc. To see the contents of /etc/hosts launch terminal and issue:
sudo cat /etc/hosts
Supply the admin password when prompted. Don't worry if you don't see anything typed, it's normal. It should look something like this:
# Host Database
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhost
To edit/add something to /etc/hosts use a terminal editor such as vi, emacs, nano or pico. I would use nano. To use nano launch terminal and issue:
sudo nano /etc/hosts
It's fairly straightforward thereafter. If you're struggling to understand what you're looking at post again and someone should help you. To be honest I don't see why you can't achieve what you need to by keying in the correct information in the Network Preferences Pane. You may need Proxy settings applied appropriate for your location.

  • I have just added Facebook app. When trying to register it in Settings it won't accept password - says cannot connect to server. Working fine otherwise

Having just joined Facebook, I have added the App to my iPhone and iPad mini but the iPad mini is coming up with an error message when trying to log it in Settings. Seems to be stuck in loop "cannot connect to server"

You can't override it no matter what you do. The device has to connect to the server to complete the iOS update. You could try rebooting the iPad and see if that lets you connect to the server after it starts up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that will not work, you can try connecting to iTunes on your computer and see if the activation will complete. Sometimes when thes activation issues arise, you end up having to restore the device again, but first things first. Reboot and see what happens.

  • 10.5.2 Mail cannot connect to intranet Linux mail Server. POP or IMAP

Does anyone have any suggestion ? Haven't been able to get MAIL to connect (either POP or IMAP) to the intranet email Server. If I Telnet the server on 192.168.1.1 110 or 192.168.1.1 143 I get instant connection, MAIL on the other hand just keeps on spinning. Connection Doctor has not helped either, after a few minutes I get red lights. Checked and rechecked all settings, deleted account and recreated account to no avail. Tried running Thunderbird with same settings and everything works fine ! The Linux email server is running Fedora 7 / Cyrus IMAP server. Runs both protocols (IMAP on port 143 and POP on port 110).

this post maybe fit your needs... they solved a similar problem

  • Cannot connect to VPN for work on OS10.7.3

    Hi All,
I need to connect to VPN so I can connect to my work server.
I currently do this on a Toshiba Lap top running Unantu with no problems. The Toshiba will be heading overseas and I need the VPN connection at home, hopefully on my Mac Book Air.
I have spent many hours searching the internet to see how to connect and have tried many ideas but cannnot find a solution.
Our work IT manager has also tried and given up.
Is there something I can install to make it work? Unfortuantly not being able to work on my Mac makes it useless to me and I will have to purchase a new laptop which can connect to VPN.
I have now tried 3 VPN connections and get the following errors -
The PPTP-VPN server did nto respon. Try reconnecting. If the problem continues, verify your settings and contact your administrator.
The IPSec Certificate is missing. Verify your settings and try reconnecting.
The VPN server did not respond. Verify the server address and try reconnecting.
Can anyone help please before I also give up, as many others have on forums, and sell the Mac?

    Hello Again LSRW,
I don't have time now to go into great detail but will try to return later.
But, you wrote "...AOL Desktop 1.5. I still find it lacking in functionality, performance, and aesthetics compared to it's predecessor, which I miss dearly.".
I am still using AOL For Mac OSX and have never installed AOL Desktop.
I don't have any problems connecting AOL to the Internet.
You can still download AOL® for
Mac OS X from AOL Downloads For Mac.

  • Re: Clients on Outlook cannot connect - email does not work but OWA does work

    Hi all,
Having some weird issues with the exchange server after I sorted out my SSL certs.
So I created my new certs signed by godaddy and now I can connect via OWA without issues.
However connecting via outlook doesn't work and using owa I can see that I can't send or receive emails.
Where can I start looking here?
The weird thing is that doing the test on testconnectivity.microsoft.com it comes up stating that the connectivity on port 443 was successful...
But then further down the page it states the exact opposite - "The specified port is either blocked, not listening, or not producing the expected response"
    Thoughts?

    Hi,
Before we go further, I’d like to confirm the detail result of your ExRCA test.
And to narrow down the cause, I’d like to confirm the following information:
    1. Check your certificate configuration: get-exchangecertifictae |fl
    2. Outlook Anywhere configuration: get-outlookanywhere |fl
    3. Check Autodiscover service: get-clientaccessserver |fl autodiscoverserviceinternaluri
    Directly access the URL:
    https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
    Thanks,

  • L7680, and cannot connect HP Solutions wirelessly, works fine through USB?

Here's the deal, I have 4 computers in the house and we are all hooked up to the same printer wirelessly and with vista we all had HP Solutions which allowed us to scan and the other commands that solutions allows, now with 7 it recognizes the printer and allows us to print, BUT when we tried to hookup HPsolutions she could not get her laptop nor her desktop to recognize solutions, and soon gave up a long time ago and just excepted the fact that she can't scan and will just ask her husband to scan for her... Don't like it but I guess I have to except it for now, well I investigated the forums a bit more and was able to get the full version on my desktop through the USB cord only, which works but is not what the intent is... my desktop is the stronger of the 4 so I don't want to even tamper with the lesser 3 until this is solved with my desktop 64bit with 7                  COME ON GUESS HELP ME OUT

I had a similar problem with my OfficeJet L7680 and here's how I fixed it.
    18APR10 - from Dan
I lost my L7680 network link (using CAT5 from printer to router) and could not print to it over the network.  However, I could print from a PC with a USB cable directly to the printer, but there are currently three PCs connected wireless to the network.  I think I have a viable solution for anyone with the same problem and is not related to the operating system of the PCs.
Originally, I went to the HP site and downloaded the program for the L7680, Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsive....  This worked wonders until my modem and/or router went down.  I could see ink levels from my PC, scan, print, and so on.  Then I somehow lost my network connection again.  When I checked the network settings on the L7680 printer panel (Setup, 5 - Network, 1 - View Network Settings, 2 - Display Wired Settings), I noticed a different IP address than the original 192.168.1.100.  Once I figured out how to reset the printer to that one, it connected and worked as it should.
Here's how to reset it:  1.  Power down all devices (wired and wireless) to the router (I even disconnected the printer power cord and CAT5 cable at the printer); 2. Power down the modem and router - wait a minute or so before powering back up;  3.  Power up the modem and give it a minute or so to go through system checks, which will normally acquire a new IP address from your ISP;  4. Power up the router and let it go through its system checks; 5.  Connect the CAT5 cable from the printer to the router and power it up before you power up and connect any other computers.  This should assign the printer the first IP address from the router, which should be 192.168.1.100.  Once the printer goes through its start-up checks, you can check its assigned IP address from its panel.  6.  Power up any other PCs or devices to the router.  They should be assigned successive IP address numbers from the router.  You can check these using a browser in the PC after typing in 192.168.1.1, logging in to the router, and checking the appropriate place in the router driver/software displayed in the browser.
I was not able to reassign IP addresses in my router's driver/software to individual devices, but this method did the trick.  I did not try to change the IP address of the printer from its panel to match what had been inadvertently reassigned to it.  That might be another option to synchronize the printer and router with the same IP address.  If the printer loses its connection again, you'll have to synchronize what the printer has with what the router shows.  This worked for me.

  • New iPod Nano G3, Cannot Connect to Win2K any work arounds?

I just purchaed a replacement iPod Nano )G3) and identified that it is only compatible with Win XP or Vista. Is there a work-around download available on the internet to work with Win 2K?

    http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=277166
Be advised you will not be able to Restore or Update your Nano using Winamp, or buy or rent anything from the iTunes Store. Your best bet would be to update your OS.

  • 3G network problems in DC: cannot connect to internet, but works with EDGE

I can load web pages fine when I turn off 3G in the settings tab (and use only EDGE), but when I turn on 3G I need to "reload" the page several times before it will load.
This is really annoying because it is clearly a AT&T 3G network problem. After spending about an hour on the phone troubleshooting the problem with Apple-iphone and ATT "customer support", they concluded that although I was having a problem, because ATT does not show a current issue in the Washington, DC area, there is nothing they can do.
Argh! ATT and Apple need to work things out to fix the network problems, I hate being caught in the middle of their animus relationship.
I guess I will have to continue paying for a service that is spotty, because as the ATT representative pointed out, they do not guarantee any service and will not recompense for any alleged outage.
Wow, now that is a prime example of why having no effective competition in cellular providers means the customer loses.

I appears to me that the problem is not related to whether you are on the phone or not. Generally, it seems like there is a problem with the 3G network being EXTREMELY slow and non-responsive. When I press the reload button several times, sometimes is loads very quickly as I would expect on 3G.
    Still having this problem today.

  • Cannot connect to 1 Ghz G4 Flatpanel on home intranet or from INTERNET.

    Here is the set up:
    1) Powerbook G4 Aluminum running Leopard 10.5.1
    2) White iMac Dual Corp Intel running Leopard 10.5.1
    3) 1 Ghz Flatpanel G4 iMac running Leopard 10.5.1
Items 1 thru 3 are HOME networked using an ACTIONTEC DSL modem which distributes intranet addresses WIRELESSLY to all computers running Airport band B/G. DSL service is per Qwest.
    4) White iMac Dual Corp Intel running Leopard 10.5.1 wireless on Office network behind firewall with appropriate ports opened and directed to target computer at home.
    PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOR.
Prior to upgrade from Tiger, I could remote in from the office using both my desktop, or my laptop which I never have online at the same time since they share the same fixed internal IP address. This could view and control the one targeted computer behind the DSL Modem/wireless router at home. When at home, with the laptop or using the intel iMac, I could use ARD to monitor/view and control any computer in the home intranet.
Once upgraded to Leopard, ARD still works from the office into the home for the intel dual core desktop machine. However, I cannot connect to the flat panel G4 desktop AT ALL. It is visible on my list of computers and shows available (or sometimes Screen sharing avialable). It will not allow me to view with screen sharing over iChat either.
Solutions tried: just about everything I can find on this website / discussion list. Nothing works to bring this flat panel G4 online. And, other than remoting in when away from home to help my wife with her desktop, the G4, used by my teen boys, is the machine I really need to surveil.
Does any guru out there think that an uninstall reinstall of ARD files would help?
    I need this solved definitively.
    Thanks

PS: Yes, ports are open at home and at work. From inside the intranet at home I can see the G4 domed base mac but not connect. If I reconfigure the ports to target the computer from the internet it demonstrates the same behavior: I can see it listed as available but msg: Cannot connect is returned.
Sorry if that was unclear to begin with.
