Is there any way to stop the ridiculous, pestering question
everytime I open a file in Dreamweaver CS3? I already have a 3
second delay while I'm trying to edit my code. Could I possibly get
rid of 1 of the obnoxious things on my list?

You are using checkin/checkout.
You are not the only person working on this site.
So- when checkin/checkout is enabled in dw, when you go to
open a local
file, dw checks the REMOTE site to see if the remote file is
newer than your
local file. [meaning, if someone else has edited the file, it
will be newer
than your local copy]
if that's the case, dw will prompt to ask if you want to
overwrite your
local file with the newer remote. There's no way to set up dw
so it will
overwrite a local file without giving an okay.
Now- please answer:
Does this happen with every file you try to open, even ones
that you know no
one else has touched since your last edit? Files that you
just created and
moved to the remote?
If that's the case, there is some timestamp/network/system
clock issue going
on.
If the overwrite prompt ONLY comes up when someone else HAS
made a change to
the file since you worked on it, then everything is working
as it should.

The subject says it all. Every time I open a file, Dreamweaver connects to the testing server and uploads the local file to the test server.
I want to stop this behaviour. It's annoying!

My testing server is IIS running on my local machine.
The "local" copy of the file is actually on a remote share. I have the test server copy open in Notepad++. The two files are identical save for on extra line in the copy on the testing server. When I open the "local" copy in Dreamweaver, it shows me that some file activity is being done, and then Notepad++ tells me the file has changed and do I want to reload it. If I do, that extra line vanishes.
When I check the file activity log, it shows that the file activity is complete.
I haven't mentioned the production server because it doesn't seem to be affected, but we do have one.

If I secure my browser using CISecurity's baseline for Firefox, can I copy all the ".js" files from the hardened system to another?

I own multiple systems. I have hardened one browser following the guideline provided by CISecurity. Instead of repeating all the configurations performed on that one system, can I just copy all the ".js" files from the secured system to my other systems?
The ".js" files can be modified using a text editor. Is there a way to lock down these files to prevent modification?

Yes, but you might want to think carefully about it.
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing. The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
This is an attractive option for some users at face value, but it contains a significant number of issues that you might want to consider before making the decision to run a Referenced Library
How to do it:
iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck the box at 'Copy items to the iPhoto Library'
Now when you import iPhoto makes an alias in the Library Package that points to the stored file. Note: iPhoto still creates a thumbnail of the image and it makes a Preview of edited photos inside the Library Package.
Issues?
1. You are responsible for file management. That's more work:
You must first move the files from your camera to the storage location before importing.
If you want to delete files then you must first trash them from iPhoto and then afterwards find them in your storage and trash them.
Thereafter, you cannot move the files on early versions of iPhoto at all, on iPhoto 08 and later you may move them on the same Volume or Disk. If you move them to a new volume or disk the aliases my break. If they are on an different volume and you move them the aliases will break.
You cannot rename the files.
Migrating: moving to a new machine, moving the files to another disk are all a lot more complex.
2. You gain no extra functionality from running a Referenced Library. Nothing. This is just storage. You still manage the files via iPhoto. You edit them with iPhoto or via iPhoto's External Editor setting, otherwise you're changes will not be available in iPhoto. You don't save byte of storage space.
3. If you have the Library on one volume and the photos on another you if anything changes in the path to a file (Like if you upgrade your machine, move the files on the NAS or on to another one?) then the alias will break, and you'll have to repair it manually. For every photo in the Library. One at a time.
Why do you want to run a Referenced Library?

You can run a Managed library from an external disk. Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
You're worried about accessing the files?
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File: a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected. 3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Is a copy of .xml file on the iPod too? If so, how can I copy ONLY the .xml file to my computer and NOT have to copy all my music files too?

I had to re-load my OS (Windows XP Pro) from a HD snapshot via Acronis True Image Server. I save my OS on my C: drive and all my data files on my D: drive. So when I re-loaded my OS, I still have all of my music files intact.
I have re-loaded the OS before and had to re-create iTunes library which I did by doing the follwing:
1. cut & paste .xml file in iTunes folder to desktop
2. delete .itl file in iTunes folder
3. import .xml file through iTunes file>library>iport playlist
4. navigate to .xml file on desktop and import
This worked last time I re-loaded my OS but not this time for some reason.
So I'm wondering if there is a copy of the .xml file on the iPod itself in the iPod_Control folder that I can copy and paste to my comuter desktop and import via the above steps?
I have seen all kinds of solutions on the web that include copying the music files from the iPod to the computer. I don't need to do that. I have the music files. I just need the .xml file so iTunes can talk to my iPod (5th Generation - 30G).

How to keep a copy of the image file on memory card when using tethered shooting with a Nikon D800?

I love tethered Shooting but as default (at least for Nikon) Lightroom does only save the file on the computer, not on the memory card.
Now I want to have a backup of the image file on the memory card additionally to downloading it. The tethering software digiCamControl can do this with my camera, so it is technically possible.
So how can I achieve this using Lightroom tethering?

FWIW I'm very keen on improving tethering and lobbied Adobe endlessly until they added the overlay for shooting into layouts because it was a major reason why some of my clients were unable to switch to Lightroom from PhaseOne. But we have to be realistic and remember that tethering just isn't a key market for Adobe as it is for PhaseOne, so progress is painfully slow. For example, where is live view or setting exposure which are in PhaseOne? I'd be amazed if we get those features for a few versions, and that's why I point serious tethered shooters to other solutions. And realistically, assuming your understanding of the SDK is correct you shouldn't expect a change until the next full version of Lightroom. Good if it happens, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I am cloning a new database using a full backup from previous nightly rman backup using a standby database utilizing catalog. When I run the duplicate command, I get

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. Then place the domain file in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Choosing and copying in the pdf file

From the security settings of the file, I see that the pdf author has allowed the copying, but I can't choose and copy. How can I do it?

A scan is basically an image; you can't select any (or all) text on it.
The only way to get text out of a scanned image is to process it with text recognition (OCR), which is available in Acrobat or the Adobe PDF Pack service.

I called apple support and the server section is closed so I was wondering if anyone could help me replace the actual cat command file as I accidentally deleted mine.

I answered my own question by downloading the cat folder from http://www.opensource.apple.com/source/text_cmds/text_cmds-81/ and then compiling the cat.c file using gcc and placing it into the /bin folder as "root".
If you ever corrupt or delete a unix command (or are missing one or more such files) I recommend going there. It took me well over an hour to find the site (mostly because I had no idea what keyword to use to find what I was looking for) but a relatively short period locating the specific directory. It did take me some time to find the specific directory it was in as there were several posibilities.
