Folder Retrieval in Win 7
By Mistake I have deleted a folder thru Shift+del option. I want the recovery of this folder......tell me how to retrieve this folder.
I guess you have "Store Presets with the Catalog" checked in your Preferences and your catalog resides on an portable HDD?
If you want to stay with presets individual to different catalogs, they'll always reside where your catalog resides.
If not, you can
uncheck the "Store Presets with the Catalog" in your Preferences
copy the preferences stored with your catalog to the location you'll see in "Show Lightroom Presets Folder..." after unchecking the switch
From then on, you'll see the same presets with all your catalogs.

Get Windows Folder Paths on Win 2000
I downloaded the windows_folder_path.vi from NI site, where I can see that "This VI is supported on Windows 2000, XP, and Vista."
If I use it in an executable that searches for Application Data folder, it works under XP, but it doesn't under a fresh Win 2000 SP4 installation.
A pop-up with the message:
Entry poin Not found
The procedure entry point SaferGetPolicyInformation could not be located in the dynamic link library ADVAPI32.dll
is shown.
When I press the OK button, another popup
LabVIEW: Resource not found.
An error occurred loading VI 'windows_folder_path.vi'.
LabVIEW load error code 3: Could not load front panel.
I'm confused because here (MSDN, Microsoft Developer Network) I can see that the SaferGetPolicyInformationfunction requires WinXP or Vista
Isn't this vi expected working properly under Win 2000?
In the next days I'll do the same test on a Vista machine, and I hope....
How can I get the Application Data path on WinXP, 2000 and Vista? With different languages OS this folder has a different name (Application Data, Dati Applicazioni, ...) so I can't build the path by myself.
I don't know if this helps, but I'm developing with LabVIEW 8.2.1and WinXP Pro

Open Folder Photoshop CC Win 7
Hello
Before upgrading to Photoshop CC (from CS5.5) the following script served me well for opening a folder.
var dir = Folder('Q:\\Team%20Member%20Folders\\Matt\\KOP\\Skies');
var files = dir.openDlg('Choose your sky','',true);
open(File(files));
Since updating to Photoshop CC this script now opens the most recent folder. I am hoping someone can tell me what is wrong with it.
Thanks for your help
MattI see one thing that is wrong and two that may be wrong. I don't think the code you posted will work in CS5.5 because of the the open() line.
If the folder object stored in the variable dir is valid and you have the correct user permissions the dialog will open in that folder in Photoshop CC. However if the path is not valid or you can not access that folder because of user permissions the dialog will open in the most recent folder.
openDlg() returns an array of file object, even if only one file is selected. If the user canceled the dialog without selecting a file it returns null. If you don't use a filter argument the user can select any file, including ones that Photoshop can not open.
app.open() expects the first argument to be a file object. It will not accept an array. In the code you posted you are passing an array.
var dir = Folder('Q:\\Team%20Member%20Folders\\Matt\\KOP\\Skies');
if(dir.exists){
var files = dir.openDlg('Choose your sky','',true);
if(files!=null){// user selected at least one file
// should check that files[0] is an image file Photoshop can open before trying to open.
open(files[0]);// open the first file selected -

I had Thunderbird installed and operating fine on my XP computer with my messages kept in a truecrypt folder. (Not default location) I have a new computer with Win 7. I read support files that directed me to move my profiles folder from my XP computer into the newly created profiles folder for the Win 7 computer. Then I copied my truecrypt folder to my new computer. Then I went in to the account settings for all 4 email accounts I keep track of and fixed the Local Directory for message storage under server settings to point correctly to my messages folders in truecrypt folder.
Now when I try to access my inbox for any of the email accounts I get the working circle (old XP hourglass) infinitly. Ultimately I never get to see any old or new messages.
I did notice that if I select the inbox of any email account and then select edit folder properties, the location is blank but it will not allow me to change it or correct it.
Any ideas?This was the only answer that came up on my search, so please don't get so testy. I don't have my iphone with me, since I switched phones. Apple support will not let you call them, get a call from them, chat with them, etc without first putting in your serial number. What next- anyone else have an idea?

Wine is taking ages to load in my machine. When i run winecfg, for exemple, it takes about 10min to show me a window.
$ winecfg
wine: creating configuration directory '~/.wine'...
Failed to open the service control manager.
-> hangs here for about 10min
I already enabled (and disabled) the DRI module in xorg.conf, but it didint helped anything. Delete the .wine folder is not the solution either because im having this problem since i instaled wine (but i erased the folder, anyway).
$ wine --version
wine-0.9.30
So ... any tips?
Last edited by nozey (2007-02-06 22:42:57)I have the same problem as you. I installed wine through pacman and when I do 'winecfg' , I have to wait a really long time until it loads. I don't understand why this is so. In all of the other linux distributions that I tried, wine started up quite fast (gentoo, ubuntu, zenwalk, fedora core, etc) Could someone please tell us why it takes a long time for wine to open. Thank you.
My WINE version is wine-0.9.33
PS: I am not sure if this would be the cause, although I don't know why it would do anything but, I am running the 32 bit Arch Linux on a 64 bit machine, and this is because I need to use wine for a certain something that I have to do for my school, so I don't want to use Arch64. I know that it is possible to get wine to work in 64 bit Arch, but I have no clue how to update the package along with the rest of the system, and I can't seem to get a chroot environment to work. -
Laserjet 1320 on win 7 (64bit) - cannot access from a networked XP Pro machine?
I have a Laserjet 1320 and a Officejet 6450 attached to a win 7 (64bit) machine - both work fine.
Have a home workgroup network established with an XP pro machine. Both printers are "shared" etc..
I can access the Offiejet from the XP machine, but cannot get access to the Laserjet. Claims that
the proper Driver cannot be located. Have downloaded the PCl5 driver to the Win 7 machine, but when
I point the XP machine to the HP PCL5 Driver folder on the win 7 machine it still cannot find the proper driver.
Any help will be appreciated.Hi Don
Thanks for the reply.
The version of Visual Studio being used is 2002 (getting on a bit now).
We had a play about with the way we installed the MSI installer we had created that installs the Crystal Reports runtimes (merge modules) and managed to get it to work on both Windows 7 32bit and 64bit.
The solution was a weird one, but seemed to work (but was different to what I had done before to get it to work). We made sure the MSI was local on the PC and right-clicked the MSI and selected the ''Troubleshoot Compatibility' ' option. Not 100% why this would work, but it seems to have done the trick.
Many thanks for your help.

Photo in folder doesn't appear in import dialogue
Hi there,
I have LR 3.6 and have created a catalog of pictures from a ski trip I took last year. All of these pictures and the LR catalog are in one folder on my hard drive. After sorting, deleting and retouching quite a few pictures I now notice that one picture is missing from the library. If I open the folder in Explorer (Win 7) I can see the picture, and Windows Picture & Fax Viewer will open/display this picture so it appears the file itself is fine.
However, I cannot get this picture into the library for some reason. When I choose File>Import Photos this one picture doesn't show up in the list of photos. It's as if Lightroom can't see this picture for some reason.
Any suggestions?
Oh, and I don't know if it matters, but there is a movie clip with the same filename but a different extension (obviously) that does show up in the library and the import dialogue. The picture filename is DSC_0001.jpg, the movie filename is DSC_0001.mov.
thanks for any help!Having a movie file with the same sounds like it might be your problem. Try renaming (within Lightroom) the movie file. Then try to re-import the photo. Or you could do it the other way and rename the image file.

Importing *.url favorites (from a HDD folder) into Mac - HELP?!
Background:
My old PC (running Win. XP) hard disc drive failed, and I had a local computer shop clear the contents onto a 500GB external HDD as I couldn't do it.
Issue:
They have put the favorites into a folder, simply with all the links down as .url ending files. eg:
remember to do this.url
shop link.url
website link.url
etc...
How on earth do I get these into Safari (or even Firefox) on my Mac? I tried importing with both browsers, but they can't recognise the filetype it seems. While Safari (but NOT Firefox) can open each link individually if I click on it, as I have 1000+ in here, I can't possibly open them all rename and resave; I need to do a mass-import job.
(Note I don't have access to a Windows machine, and importantly they are coming from a file on a separate HDD and not from Windows machine where they can perhaps be exported out.)
...did some Googling, but no joy. Help appreciatedDONE IT !!
Finally found this out myself...
You will need (borrow): *a Windows machine (or have it running in bootcamp/virtual machine on mac)*.
{quote:title=*Follow this:*}{quote}
– copy the folder with all your *.url files in it onto the Windows machine (eg. onto the desktop); a usb stick or email the file to the win machine seems easiest.
– find the Favorites folder on the win machine (I was using old win98 where it's at ~WindowsFavorites, but may be slightly different path on newer versions), where you'll notice all the fav's already on the win machine you are using (if any) will be saved as .url ending files.
– copy & paste your .url links into that folder in one go (or just select the ones you want).
– open IE (Internet Explorer), and export the fav's under the File drop-menu option; usually Export or similar. It will produce an .htm file and ask where you want to save (back onto Desktop perhaps).
– copy this .htm file onto your Mac somewhere (via usb stick/email, again), open *Safari>File>Import Bookmarks*, and they'll appear inside Safari as an imported set of bookmarks. (NB: you may/may not have to change the file ending from .htm to .html manually before importing for it to work.)
Et voila!
Now you can do what you like with them (including re-sorting/re-filing, or importing/exporting to Firefox/other browser of choice, or upload to online bookmark site, or ... well you get the idea).
Pain in the backside you can't do this natively inside OS X, but at least there IS a solution. Shame it took me hours to work it out! -

Migrating iTunes (Win XP) to a New Computer (Win 7)
I have an extensive iTunes library on my old Windows XP computer and would like to migrate this library to a new computer with Windows 7. I have searched the Apple site and read most of the related articles, but I'm not certain I completely understand all the steps required to do this properly.
I think I understand that I need to authorize the new computer. When do I do this? First or after the library is moved?
What about moving the files? Do I just copy them to the new machine? If so, do I do this before or after install iTunes on the new machine?
Is it easier just to sync my phone with the new computer?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.It depends a little on whether the library is all in one place or has been split so that the library files are in one location and the media folder is in another. We'll assume the easy option for now but if I'm wrong just holler and I'll write up the extra steps... (Precise details of existing folder paths will make it easier to write clear instructions)
On the XP box use *File > Library > Organise Library > Consolidate Files* to make sure all your files are in the correct set of folders.
Now use *File > Library > Organise Library > Rearrange files in the folder iTunes Music (Media)* to reorganise the files in the newer layout. If the option is greyed out you've already done this.
If your *iTunes Media* folder is called *iTunes Music* (old school) then close iTunes, rename the folder *iTunes Music* as *iTunes Media* then start iTunes. Check everything still plays. Now your library is properly portable.
If you've already installed iTunes on the Windows 7 machine throw away the empty iTunes folder from inside Music.
Copy the iTunes folder & all its subfolders from the XP box to the Music folder on the Win 7 box.
Install iTunes if you haven't done so already.
Start iTunes.
Enjoy your tunes.
