Functional Areas (FA) in Profit Center Accounting (PCA)

Dear all,
We use Functional Areas (FA) to separate fixed costs in Profit Center Accounting (PCA). Originally, in FI, fixed costs are posted with Cost Center which is linked to FA. Now we find out that some cost centers missed their link to FA and hence not all fixed costs transferred to FA in PCA. We fixed the missed links, but the main question now is, how can we transfer information about FA for already existing documents? Is there any way to update profit center documents and totals? Or erase and transfer them once again?

  • Business Area vs. Profit Center Accounting

    Hi all,
    I have a doubt regarding this issue.
    Our customer is a holding composed by 3 legal entities, each one with its own Balance Sheet. The company produces in such a way that they need to plan production and purchases globally (for the 3 legal entities).
    I searched how to deal with this, and if a create 3 different company codes it is really difficult to plan production and purchases for the 3 company codes globally. The most suitable solution would be to use STO process (stock transfer orders), but the purchases would be done by only one company code and this is not what the customer wants because only this company code would have tax credits.
    I am now thinking about having one company code divided into 3 different business areas or profit centers, but I am not sure which solution will be better, taking into account that each legal entity must submit a separate Balance Sheet. In Sap Help, I found that it is better to have different business areas if each organizational unit must submit external presentatios. But I was told that Profit Center Accounting came to replace Business Area. Is that right? May I use Business Area to do so or Profit Centers ? Which one is the most reccomendable?

    hi,
    if u r setting as a business area,still u need to follow the reporting procedures to the local authorities, such as banks,tax,etc. but,if u do it as a profit center,it will come under ur internal entity (controlling), and for the local authorities,ur holding entity will take care of reporting,etc.

  • Using Business Area and Profit Center Accounting with New GL functionality

    Hello,
    We are Public Sector and using ECC 6.0, we have been using Business Area with Fund Management. We also use Special Purpose Ledger with Document splitting. Before migrating to New GL functionality, we want to understand
    -     The possibility of using both Business Area and Profit Center Accounting, and the impact on the system
    -     If we activate Profit Center Accounting before migration, how will it work with the splitting process?
    -     If we migrate without Profit Center Accounting, will this cause the activation of Profit center accounting later to be more complicated, even if we migrate again?

  • Balance sheet planning in EC-PCA - Profit center accounting

    Does anybody has experience in planning balance sheet positions in EC-PCA ?
    We create balance sheets by Business Unit in profit center accounting for inventory, WIP, assets and AR/AP.
    Now it is the goal to use this data for the planning.
    I only found a function for inventory. Does anybody know if it is generally possible to do this for all the mentioned balance sheet positions and what is the best way to go for it ?

    Both are used for internal treporting purpose.
    but profit center have some advantages over business areas.

    . Profit Centers will be used instead of Business Areas to generate Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets for each location. Profit Centers has the following advantages over Business Areas;
    .     •      It is very flexible in nature and can be created / activated any time as it is Master Data.
    .     •      Profit Centers does not need adjustments/activities in the month-end due to Document Splitting functionality.
    .     •      Profit Center has its own Ledger/ SAP Tables in the background
    .     •      It can be grouped at higher level and one group can have any number of Profit Centers in it
    .     •      Assessment and Distribution of Costs between Profit Centers can be done.

    Business area will have many profit centers. For example Vehicle is a business area in a company. Vehicle can be cars and Bikes etc. Here Vehicle is business area and Cars and Bike are profit centers. In broad Vehicle is a profit center. But as it has sub areas those are profit centers. So profit centers cannot be replaced with business area and vice versa. We can replace business area by Profit centre, only condition is that it should be in same controlling area. The business area is more like a business unit of a company. You can have multiple profit centers within a business area.
    Main distinguish factor is that distribution and assessment in possible in profit center but not in business area.
    One more distinction is that Business area need not be attached to any organisation structure. But profit centres can be created only under the controlling area. Business area can be across controlling area.
    Business area concept is used for making stragic decisions by the management whereas the primary purpose of profit centre accounting is responsibility accounting.

    Dear All,
    We have activated multiple valuation: Legal, Group, Profit Center.
    We have activated Profit Center Accounting too.
    Now we have performed sale of material from one Company code to another.
    And there are no documents of Profit Center Accounting.  Plus in Profit Center valuation there are no sums on revenue account.
    All sums are posted to account defined for internal material movements in transfer price's customizing.
    What customizing is  missing?

    As you know that transferring balances from one PC to another completely  with in controlling part.  Until unless you post any document from FI or MM  side system will not generate any Accounting doc for any transactions.  And we do not have any direct postings in controlling. Thank you,

    I am configuring CO Area where one company code is equal to one controlling area.
    1 ) So what sould be be currency ideally ? 10 or 30 ? Company code currency or Group Currency ?
    2 ) Same way in 0KE5 ( Profit Center Account - Controlling area settings ) which should be currency type - As I think if CoCd and Co Area is one to one relationship it should be 10 always. - Please correct me if I am wrong.
    3 ) 0KE5 is it mandatory to keep valuation view as a profit center valuation or Legal Valuation ? What is difference between both and in which cases we can use each?

    In the legal view goods movements are posted between profit centers at the sales price which was agreed between internal trading partners who produce a balance sheet/profit and loss statement independently.
    In the profit center view goods movements are posted between profit centers at negotiated transfer prices which are used for internal profit determination and corporate management.

    We are Public Sector and are on ECC 6.0, we have been splitting Document based on Business Area and Fund. Before migrating to New GL functionality, we are also thinking to use the feature of document splitting with characteristic profit center. To do that we are thinking of the two following scenarios, but want to understand the possibility, the benefits and impact on the system
    Scenario A. Activating Profit Center Accounting with Splitter in Special Purpose Ledger on the GO-live date and populate Profit Center field in Classical G/L.
    Scenario B. Activating Profit Center Accounting with Splitter In New G/L on the GO-live date and populate Profit Center field in New G/L.

    Yes, I understand that (ours too). Based on your diagram, migration will be some time after 7/1/2011.
    Actually, I think what SAP recommends is complete migration before opening the new FY for posting. In any case, if you want to add a new split characteristic and you are already using SPL, I think it is better to add it to SPL before NewGL migration because SAP handles migration with SPL and without SPL (from classic GL) differently. With SPL is a lot more straight forward.

    We are working on a project in ECC 6.0 with document splitting functionality. I would like to know how to transfer Payables/Receivables, Materials, Assets in Profit center accounting. I have done necessary configuration but some how results are not getting updated in PCA. Is there any specific report required to see result or standard reports gives the results.
    I have assigned Accounts in 3KEH and their default assingment in 3KEI kindly tell me how to proceed about it.
    I have done these configuration so far
    Define Ledgers for General Ledger Accounting
    Assign Scenarios and Customer Fields to Ledgers
    Classify G/L Accounts for Document Splitting
    Classify Document Types for Document Splitting
    Define Zero-Balance Clearing Account for profit center
    Define Document Splitting Characteristics for General Ledger Accounting
    Activate Document Splitting
    Apart from these is there any other configuration kindly let me know

    I am using S_ALR_87012284  to generate my financial statements. But whenever I provide a profit center value in the dynamic selection screen, i will encounter the FAGL_DB007 error.
    The error message reads -->
    Invalid selection when reading balances in new General Ledger Accounting
    Message no. FAGL_DB007
    Diagnosis
    Read access to balances of New General Ledger Accounting can only be granted to selection conditions for fields in table &V1.
    System Response
    No balances can be read.
    Procedure
    Check the selection criteria by calling up the transaction.
    Anyway I can overcome this error?

    Hi!
    we are in classic PCA and using SAP from last 5 years.
    Till now we have not used functionality of 1KEK,1KEH, 1KEJ etc.,.
    now we want to use that. before using that, we want to transfer the Balance Sheet GL accounts opening balances to Profit center accounting.
    for example we are in January to December fiscal year and now period is June.  So first we want to transfer all the balance sheet balances to Profit center accounting as opening balance on January and then periodically run the standard transaction codes.
    is there any option to suit the above requirement.

    Need to clarify that we need to do planning in BCS for profit center accounting & need to know what can be the table in ECC6.0 to pull PCA relevant data  with cost as we  may get from GLPCT& need to know that from ECC 6.0 old PCA is not to be used or we still can use old PCA . If we can not use old profit center accounting how we can run the report based on PC hier &  find out balances with cost to profit center.

    Thanks for answer. The GLPCT table is not getting activated in the case when we activated the new GL Functionality so not able to link that table to BIW. Need to know what are the relevant tables that can be referred to in FI that includes profit center data & Secondary cost postings in CO.

  • ERP 05 - Segment in planning layouts in Profit Center Accounting

    Hello Everyone!
    I have now configured the New GL and activated the integration towards CO.
    We would like to be able to use the segment field in the PCA planning layouts, but so far the segment field is not available in the standard fields that can be used in the planning layouts (the function area field is available...).
    In FI it is available (New GL), but since the planning integration works only CO->FI and not the opposite: if we planned in FI, the figures wouldn't be in CO!
    Can anybody tell me why I don't have the segment field available for planning in PCA, and how to use it in PCA planning?
