GIF, PNG support

Hi, I like to ask if any1 here knows in Java 1.2.2, Toolkit class, the images supported? Mentioned only in the API are gif and jpeg formats. I am feeding in png data (source is a java server running developed on Java 1.4.1) across the network and a client (java 1.2.2) will decode the byte array. However the coversion keeps failing. Any idea? Initially I thought the data got somewhat corrupted but now I am suspecting the image support given in java 1.2.2

  • Video, animated GIF, PNG's to FC

50% of buttons panels and so on can be non static... so
    1) Drag and drop video is avaliable?
    2) List of formats?
    3) Size issuse (Drop flv MPG MOV vill the size grow extreamly?)
    4) Effects and Loops?
    5) And what about animated GIF PNG elements?

We are looking at supporting FLV and F4V video formats in a future beta. Video can be streamed so that the video itself does not have to be embedded inside your Flash content. This prevents the file from getting too big.
Regarding #4, are you referring to effects and loops on video, or for general animation purposes?
Regarding #5, no support for animated GIFS yet

  • Animated gif picture support for iphone 4s or iphoto app

i love it to use animated gif pictures in the imessage chat, but it is still not possible to view these pictures in the camera roll or in iphoto.
would bw great if apple would make it work to play gif pictures in original size.
ether in iphoto or in the iphone camera roll
editing gif in iphoto would be freakin awesome

It's not likely that Apple will add gif animation support into iPhoto, not even the desktop application supports it.
As far as viewing animated gifs saved in your camera roll, there has been a work around to select the gif and share it using the "Email Photo" option. The gif will play while in the email compose box and when you're done viewing it you can simply press cancel to quit the compose email mode.
Search the app store there are lots of apps that allow you create animated gifs and you may even find some that will let you view them more easily.

  • How  to make graphics in pdf link to real size gifs/png

This must be an old question, but when we were going to online help form Frame documents, we chose RoboHelp because we had a perl script
that would swap back the old (96ppi) screen captures in the html, and so the user would see the large GUIs clearly.
We are looking to go to an html front end that points to within the pdf documents, but the  screenshots are still unclear, is there a way to have
a tooltip over each image in the pdf to click to enlarge and then the user would double-click and the original gif/png would appear? The original GUI images would be in a directory with the online help.
    Thanks

That makes sense. So I guess it looks like I have 2 options.
    1. Put the JS short code in and have it open the link in a new window if the user opens it in adobe. If a google chrome user opens it in the default viewer, they wont be able to use the link at all.
    2. Leave the link how it is, and it will be usable in both viewers, but will not open it in a new window.
I am sureprised that opening the link in a new window isn't just an option in Acrobat Pro. I wouldn't think you'd have to make a workaround like this.
Is there an alternative way to have a page link on the form so that people can go to another .pdf whil keeping the main one open?

  • LV PDA 8.2 Need to install PNG support files if using Bitmaps?

    Hello All:
I'm using 8-bit bitmaps in my LV PDA 8.2 Windows Mobile 5.0 app.  I found out bitmaps will not load unless I install the PNG support files into my PDA.  Is this a misnomer?  Should the PNG install files be called Image install files?
The reason why I post this:
I have an app where the user will have to install my app and supporting files, install the LV SMS files and now have to install PNG support files even though I use bitmaps only.  Well you get the idea, more installations means more chances of user errors.  Is there a package installer that can bundle all of these installations(i.e. Install Shield for Windows Mobile)?
BTW; My 3Meg bitmap that used to take 1 and a half in minute to load in v 8.01 now takes about 30 seconds.  This 3 fold increase makes my day.
    Thanks
    Robert

    Robert,
You shouldn't have to load the PNG support files if you are just using bitmaps.  I just tried this on the Windows Mobile 5.0 emulator and it works fine with all types of bitmaps without the PNG support files.  I think this is a valid test because when I tried to use a PNG image on the emulator I got an error when it was trying to load lpngce.dll (PNG support file).  Is this the error that you get when trying to use a bitmap without the PNG support files?

  • How to compress image files, jpeg, bmp, gif, png, tiff, etc

I am new to Jave imaging, does anybody know how to compress an image file, including jpeg, bmp, gif, png, tiff format.
    Thanks
    JC

    some are already compressed.
If you just want generic compression, it doesn't really matter what type of file they are. A simple approach would be to use ZipOutputStream

  • CS2 on OS 10.5: Can't save as GIF, PNG, ... ?

I'm running CS2 on 10.5 and the ability to save an 8-bit file as a GIF or PNG or "Save to the Web" is not possible. I must be missing the obvious, but I have tried opening and saving different files but they all have same issue. What I can save as is all the Photoshop formats, JPEG, PICT and TIFF and SciTex. Suggestions?
    Thanks, Andrew.

    Andrew,
CS2 is not supported in Leopard (OS 10.5.x) and will not get updated, ever.
If you can, revert to Tiger (10.4.x). Or upgrade to Photoshop CS3.

  • .gif .png matte not working.

I'm creating a website for an author and the title on the top of the page is large white letters on transparency, to be on a black repeating background image. Rather than using html I created an image because she wants a specific font that isn't supported with html. I created the image, saved in .gif, and put it all in and then looked at the website and the edges were jagged; I realized I forgot the matte. I went back in and re-saved it with the matte and it worked perfectly. It looked great, the jagged edges were very noticeably gone.
Later, I had to make a small change to the image in regards to the font on just one of the letters (The capital H was a different font than the rest). The rest of the letters remained the same font. Me, being the unprofessional and mindless man I am, forgot to save the file as a photoshop file, so had to start over, but luckily it was an easy image to create. I did it exactly what I had did before, just changed the font on one letter. Saved it as .gif and put a black matte on it, and it didn't work. I tried again, and again, and again. I tried to save it normal, I tried to save it for web, I remade it, I tried using .png instead of .gif, I tried everything.
Most of the forums I found where people had the same problem said that you can't do mattes very well with .gif and this was to be expected. They said you should go in and add it in with pencil. But if that's the case, why was it working before? I did the exact same process, with the only difference being me changing the font on one letter, and it looks completely different. Before, the matte showed up in the preview and looked great on the site. Now it doesn't show up in the preview no matter what way I save it, and it doesn't work on the website.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm working with CS3.

    A few things to try.
Try saving your export settings as a preset to use during the
    batch
    process.

Also, instead of using the generic FW export options, you can
    choose
'Custom' from the drop down to set the settings. This was an
    older file
but, it gets you to the right screen.

  • Does animated .gif export support animation of library symbols?

I'm currently using the 30-day free trial of Adobe Flash Professional CC. I was really pleased to see how easily you could export animations in animated .gif format, seemed to run without a hitch.
One thing I noticed while using Flash is that instances of symbols placed into a scene don't actually animate when you use the "Play" function -- that is to say, when you press Enter and the playhead starts moving along the timeline from its current position. They remain at the very first frame of their respective animations. In order to show the proper animations of symbols, you have to use the Test function (CTRL - Enter) to actually compile a working .swf of the thing.
This wasn't much of an issue until I tried to export in .gif format and I got this same issue. Instances of symbols don't animate, they only seem to work in compiled .swf's.
FileDropper link to the working file I'm using: http://www.filedropper.com/flashbottle
    Result .gif: http://i.imgur.com/PZVXST7.gif
Since the use of symbols in the Flash workflow seems to be a rather common occurrence it seems unthinkable that Flash wouldn't support their usage with whatever mechanism they use to export animated .gif's. Is there some sort of silly mistake I'm making or checkbox I need to toggle? Or is the functionality simply not there?

    Thank you for your reply!
I check exported GIFs in various browsers and XnView viewer.
It's definitely not a preview  issue - i have 32Gb of RAM and Nvidia Quadro 4000 GPU on my system.
I believe the issue is with transparency, because i'm able to export GIFs with solid background just fine
GIF export dialogue window has 'Transparency' checkbox, so it looks like it should be possible to export an animated GIF with transparent background, but for some reason i'm getting all frames at the same time
    thank you

  • Incredibly strange file size discrepancy only appears in image files (jpg, gif, png)!

I'm creating a bunch of banners for google ads, yahoo ads, ...etc in Photoshop on my Mac OS!
The .gif files of these banners appear to TRIPLE in size when on the MAC (>150KB), but when transferred to windows; the real file size shows correctly! (<50KB)
It is not a result of the base2 vs base10 discrepancy since the difference in size is simply too big, and it only happens with files created on Photoshop on my Mac.
The reason I know that windows is showing the correct size while my Mac OS is displaying the wrong size, is that the file gets approved by google and yahoo ads, even though Mac OS shows that it surpasses the size limit (50KB) three times over!
This isn't an isolated incident either, all image files created in Photoshop on the MAC continue this weird behaviour! However, files downloaded from the net appear to be consistent on both operating systems!
One example is the attached screenshot:
    Explanation, please??

Geez, sorry I offended you Mr. Jobs (incarnate)!
You came in here with a three ton chip on your shoulders. Did you really expect sunshine and puppies in return?
No, I expected useful help, and I got it from Jeffrey Jones. Thanks again Jeffrey!
I mean, when you move or upload it, it loses this data association anyways!
To a drive which doesn't support Apple's AB tree structure (NTFS, FAT, FAT32, exFAT), yes. To another HFS+ drive, no.
What about uploading the file to the cloud?? Does it lose this association or not?? And does anyone really care about the data in the Resource fork?
This "Resource Fork" means nothing to the file owner, only to the OS and the Drive. Therefore, it shouldn't be added to the total. Period. Because its not part of the file, its part of Apple's tree structure! This is really a simple concept, not sure why you are bending over backwords to defend a clearly stupid oversight from apple!
There's no reason to force me to use the command line to get the real file size of a GIF! There's just no excuse for that!
If an OS is saying it is fetching file size information for a single file, it should do exactly that! Not add hidden Resource Forks that are part of the OS's internal workings
OS X is fetching the file size. It's file size, not the way a different OS would report it.
There is no such thing as it's file size. A file size is a file size, accross all platforms, on the cloud, wherever!
A GIF file should have the same file size whether its on windows, linux, unix, darwin, freeBSD, or anything else. The only time its weight should vary is in outer space!
That is why I'm surprised that they are breaking simple UI Design rules.
The User Interface has nothing to do with the file structure of a drive.
I don't care about the structure of the drive!! Neither should you, neither should the average user!
A good UI should NOT concern the user with this! The average user doesn't care about these Resource Forks, and will never try to view them, therefore, there is no logical reason to add up their file sizes to the total size of each file, and then to make things worse, hide that fact! That only creates confusion, and it makes it so much harder for a designer like myself to view the REAL file sizes of my image files! Now, whenever I'm on my MAC, I will have to run command line scripts to be able to see if my GIF files (that I work on EVERYDAY) meet the file size quota, because Mac OS adds up hidden files that I have no use for and gives me the WRONG file size!
Let's say this again: when you select a file and click get info, you should get the info for the file you selcted. Nothing more, nothing less! I don't care if the file structure creates an entire colony of hidden files, they should be completely hidden to me, and if not, the Get Info dialog box should at least give me two sizes, one is the REAL file size, and the other is the added up file size for the Resource Fork as well (although I can't think of any good reason why it should add up the Resource Fork size anyways)!
do you think it is at all logical, that when you select 300 or so files, and click Get Info, that it open 300 windows at once each showing separate information for each file? Or does it make a lot more sense, intuitively, to get the total tally of all the files selected added up, without having to hold down shortcut keys when clicking them to do so?
Yes, it is logical because that's what you, the user, told the OS to do. You wanted the Get Info data on 300 individual items. I don't know about you, but I avoid the menu bar as much as possible (your reference to avoiding shortcut keys). Command+I will always give you singular Get Info dialogue boxes.
No, that's not what I told the OS to do. I selected 300 files cumulatively, therefore, I should get the cumulative info for all the selected files. That's just common sense. Every other OS seems to get this!
And I'm hard pressed to find anyone who has found a use for having 300 get info boxes open at the same time. Therefore, that shouldn't be the default.
Will you start defending apple's decision to stick with the one button mouse for all these years depriving us from the all important context menu as well?? There was absolutely no good reason to do that, just as there is absolutely no good reason to do this!

  • Image file formats gif, png, jpeg, tiff

    Hi guys,
I've read a little bit about this, so I know the some basics:
    gifs: lossless, transparency/animation, 256 colors
jpeg: lossy, no transparency, 16 million colors, etc.
png: lossless, 16 million colors (?), newer/better compression and transparency than gif
But I want to hear it from the designers (web and/or print, cause I do both). What format do you guys use for editing/printing photos? I've always archived and printed my photos as TIFFs, they're huge, but this way I just avoid any hassle of quality loss.
I've been reading that I should keep my photos as PNGs and then print final versions as JPEGs...is that true? How do you guys utilize the various file types?
    Thanks!!!

For print I use .tiff's ( just like you ).  I limt .png files to the internet.  I would not convert the .png to a .jpg for print.  If anything, I'd copy the original .png and convert it to a CMYK .tiff or .psd file.

  • Png support in LR anytime soon?

Is support for png files (reading) planned anytime soon? Typically I use the png format to save files from my scanner. I have quite a bunch of them and it would be great if I could handle them in LR!
    klaus

We can only hope so, since we have figured out how to use PNGs as TPIs to do Copyright and Frame overlays as Id Plates, not to mention End Panel images. It would be nice to catalogue them from with in LR.
    See
LR Extras Downloads for more on such PNG use.
