How  to make graphics in pdf link to real size gifs/png

This must be an old question, but when we were going to online help form Frame documents, we chose RoboHelp because we had a perl script
that would swap back the old (96ppi) screen captures in the html, and so the user would see the large GUIs clearly.
We are looking to go to an html front end that points to within the pdf documents, but the  screenshots are still unclear, is there a way to have
a tooltip over each image in the pdf to click to enlarge and then the user would double-click and the original gif/png would appear? The original GUI images would be in a directory with the online help.
Thanks

That makes sense. So I guess it looks like I have 2 options.
1. Put the JS short code in and have it open the link in a new window if the user opens it in adobe. If a google chrome user opens it in the default viewer, they wont be able to use the link at all.
2. Leave the link how it is, and it will be usable in both viewers, but will not open it in a new window.
I am sureprised that opening the link in a new window isn't just an option in Acrobat Pro. I wouldn't think you'd have to make a workaround like this.
Is there an alternative way to have a page link on the form so that people can go to another .pdf whil keeping the main one open?

  • How to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both?

See details on buggy DW image link behavior, below. My question is:
    1) how to make site root-relative links work in DW and Server both? Or…
    2) how to reliably automate the change of several hundred legacy root-relative links of the form
    /images/image.jpg  to document-relative?
    That is, to
    ../images/image.jpg or
    ../../images/image.jpg or
../../../images/image.jpg etc…depending on where the directory is.
The old format (/images/image.jpg ) used to work fine in my previous DW 8 configuration but appear grey in DW after “upgrading” to DW cs5.5 mac. (they look fine on the server, but it’s hard to edit image-heavy pages locally when they are all grey).
I tried changing the files to how DW creates root relative links now:
/public_html/images/image.jpg, which is a very easy, attractive root flow since there’s a one-to-one mapping. These look great in DW but are broken on the server!
I looked at the “advanced” site setup, and it looked like it might be possible to nuke the /public_html/ part of my server info…but it also looked like there was the potential for doing damage changing these settings, which are automatically generated from our server connection settings, which seem to work.
The “links relative to document/ site root” toggle…does that change how DW interprets existing links, or just change the default when you are adding a link?  I have made 80% of the file links document relative…before wondering if root-relative isn’t better?
It sure seems less ambiguous for all those images if theres a way to make root relative work for DW design view, DW link check, and server.
Summary of buggy behavior: (see test with images here)
    "old style" site root link
          /images/img_book/WScover120x150_NEW.jpg
Design veiw in DW: broken (grey w/ broken icon)
Link check in DW: "external link" (i.e., uncheckable, + file could appear orphaned)
          Browser: good
Ease of switching: n/a (existing format)
"new style" site root relative link

    Hello again Jon!
    Thanks for jumping on this.
All clear and understood about where publc_html is etc.
No contemplation of nuking the actual public_html directory on the server, just the "/public_html" text string at the start of the DW-generated links.
"/public_html" is automatically added to the front of the link in DW if I create the link with any of the GUI tools, if I have "site root relative" selected. And ""/public_html" ends up in the code, and gets uploaded that way to the server, where it (obviously) doesn't work.
Doesn't sound like it is supposed to work this way. Also, what seems to be the usual root relative format (/images/image.jpg) shows as a broken link in the GUI and an external link in the DW link check. All this togther makes me thinkI have some obscure setting incorrect?
The setting that caught my eye is manage sites/ site setup/ advance settings/ local info/ web url,  which is automatically set to http://www.oasisdesign.net/public_html/
it gives an option to change it but it makes every effort to make this NOT look like something users should mess with:
Having gone through the more careful thought process during this post, I'm ready to do the experiment of changing the remote server web URL (why is it wrong by default?)...think I'll eat dinner first so there's 45 min to avert disaster if anyone knows this to be a bad idea!
    Art
PS--don't  have a local testing server...don't think this will solve the GUI broken link/ link shows as external problems.
Is there an easy, automated way to change links sitewide from document to root relative?

  • How to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table ?

    Dear Friends,
Hello. I am developing the accounting application of journal entry. In journal line, I use the image "magnifying glass" next to each chart field. When we click on the magnifying glass, it's supposed to come up a look up table( a chart and name mapping table), and we select the proper chart to input into the chart field.
I understand to create another record and page for the look up table. But I don't understand how to make a magnifying glass link to a look up table. Can anybody tell me how to do that ? Thanks.
    Lucy

    This is how it works,
Table A (which stores chart fields). You have used fields from table A on a page so that users can input data.
You don't need to put a magnifying glass image or create a new page to achieve look up page.
all you need to do is create another table say Table B which should have the chart field and corresponding description you want to show on lookup page. Then open record-field property of the chart field on Table A and mention Table B as prompt table.

  • How to make a scanned PDF file searchable? I bought an Adobe service which I thought allowed me to do this

How to make a scanned PDF file searchable? I bought an Adobe service which I thought allowed me to do this, but I do not see any instructions how to do it.

    Hi,
When using Adobe ExportPDF online service, it will run OCR itself when converting any PDF to other file format.
It also depends upon the quality of the scanned document, so it might be possible that it does not make the file searchable.

  • How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border?

How can I print a pdf in the actual size with a page border? (2 pages per sheet preferred)
I usually print pdfs of books at a copy shop and they turn out fine.
The problem comes when I try to print the same books at home.
I use Adobe Acrobat X with the same settings: "multiple pages per sheet" (2x1) and page border. But the pages are slightly shrunken when printed. I think this is because my printer can't print as closely to the margins. Still, two pages should be able to fit on one sheet in actual size. Are there any layout settings that I can play with to find a better fit, besides portrait and landscape?
If I select page scaling "none," I'm able to print the pdf in actual size, one page per sheet. But there's no option to add a page border.

I have a test with some questions (multiple choice, FIB, matching, etc). I have just one button to submit all the answers, and after submiting the student can see his score and review the test to know where he failed. He can't answer again. However, he can change the answer multiple times before submiting.
"if i turn on success/failure captions the student will see them while answering" - before submitting
"if i turn them off he wont know what's the right answer" - after submitting
My results page is the default. I didn't use any variable. When i go to the results page after reviewing the test all the entry boxes are "wrong".

  • Make ie7 save pdf link instead of open (acrobat8)

hi, when you click a pdf link in ie7 there seems to be only 2 options: either open the pdf in browser window or open pdf in acrobat.
how can you make the ie7 ask to save the pdf file instead of automatically opening it?

That would be a feature of the browser or the HTML code used. I am not sure how to set that, or if it can be set. Acrobat will open if requested, but you are asking the browser to save rather than to open. Thus for what you want Acrobat or the plugin would not even be called.
If you are looking for it in your own browser, the look for browser options. If you are trying to do it with HTML for other users, then you need to consult an HTML manual. You might be able to set a button to save with some JAVAscript. Keep in mind that if that is what you are looking for, most folks like to be asked before you start saving to their machine.

  • How to make hyperlinks in PDF doc open in a seperate PDF window?

I created a "Main" PDF document and have various attachments in it including PDF. I created them with Insert, Hyperlink.  That works, however, if I have the main document open in PDF, and I click on one of the hyperlinks to open a PDF document, the main document is closed and the only window remaining open is that of the hyperlink I've accessed.
I want to change this to have the PDF hyperlink within main document  open in its on window ...can this be done?

Thanks for the reply, but I have Adobe Reader 9 Pro. Will it still not

  • How to make screenshot/jpg/pdf of ENTIRE long Safari window (not just visible part)?

I want to get a "screenshot" (i.e. an image in any format -- PNG, JPG, PDF, whatever) of a looooooooong Safari window diplaying a Web page that entends far below the bottom of the visible screen area and has to be scrolled down to see all of it.
I know about the standard screenshot keyboard tricks in 10.6 -- Command-shift-4, Command-shift-4 then spacebar/click, Command-shift-3, etc. But not any of them allow the user to get a screen shot of the entirety of a long/deep window -- they only capture what is visible on the screen.
Also, another trick people often mention is to "print" (command-P) the Safari page, but instead of sending it to a printer choose "Save as PDF." Brilliant -- except that for some reason I've never been able to "print" a Safari page -- as soon as I hit the command-P keystrokes in Safari, I immediately get a spinning beachball that will only go a way with a force-quit of Safari. This has always been true on this computer (MacBook Pro) -- not sure if it's a common bug or if it's just an eccentricity of my particular machine. Either way, that option is off the table because "printing" is impossible with my Safari.
I also searched around for various third-party freeware applications, and despite a lot of grandiose promises, none of them actually was able to capture an entire window including portions not currently visible on the screen.
I did find a commercial application called SnapWeb that does have the capability to do exactly what I want -- but it doesn't produce usable images in demo mode and requires $$$ to unlock and work properly, something I'm currently unwilling to pay for a simple one-use gimmick that simply must be part of the OS already.
    So my question is:
Is there any native way within the 10.6 OS that allows users to capture an entire long Safari window as an image file (not as a Web Archive, but as an image file composed of pixels), which includes the entirety of a Web page no matter how "long" it is, even if it extends far below the visible screen footprint?
And if there is no native way in 10.6, if there a freeware/shareware application/widget/plugin/whatever which does the same thing?
I already know about a commercial software that does it (SnapWeb), so I don't need more recommendations for paid apps. And I know that I can laboriously construct a JPEG by hand with Photoshop by taking a screenshot of the visible window, scrolling down a little, taking another screenshot, etc. etc., and then
"stitching" them together. Yeah, it's possible (and in fact is what I've done in the past), but it's a time-consuming hassle that shouldn't be necessary.
Help! I've wondered about how to do this for years, and have never yet found a satisfactory answer.

    Woo-hoo!
After fiddling with Paparazzi! for another 40 minutes, I finally deciphered (through trial-and-error) how to maneuver through its awkward user-interface to an extent that I was finally able to make it "work" -- at least work sufficiently for my purposes. And lo and behold, it does indeed have the capacity to capture a screenshot of an entire long Web page, including the portion not visible on the screen. In fact my first attempt was to experiment with this very page of our thread on Apple "Discussions" about how to solve this problem -- and I got Paparazzi! to save it as a jpeg!! The whole thread, top to bottom, exactly as on the screen, not re-formatted for printing. The final file size was 985 pixels wide by 4,204 pixels long (1.2mb).
I have since experimented with a couple other pages and had success with them as well.
HOWEVER, I can't guarantee that Paparazzi! will work with every page on the Web, because I think one of the problems when I first attempted to use it was that the page I was trying to get a screenshot of contained a lot of Flash elements and other data-heavy widgets, and I think those messed up Paparazzi!'s memory or overwhelmed it or something. But perhaps such huge and problematic pages are rare enough to not be much of an issue using Paparazzi! under normal circumstances.
So, I'll consider this problem "solved," and give user "jsd2" a "This helped me" star, since even though I already had Paparazzi! he encouraged me to revisit it.
And for the record to help those who might stumble on this thread in the future seeking a solution to the same problem:
The freeware program to get is called "Paparazzi!" and is available directly on the developers site here:
    http://derailer.org/paparazzi/
Also, note that the current version only works with 10.6.8 or later, but if you have a previous version of the Mac OS, the developer helpfully maintains an archive of older releases that work with older OS versions -- you can access the old (and new) versions here:
    http://derailer.org/paparazzi/downloads
It's also available for free download on various popular third-party sites, like:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/15966/paparazzi!
Be warned that Paparazzi! does not have a very intuitive user interface, nor a user manual, so be patient with it and you should be able to figure out how to make it work.
If you want another application that also does the trick and which has a simpler and better user experience, but you don't mind paying money to buy it, you can purchase and download "SnapWeb" on its developer's site here:
    http://www.tribalmedia.com/bts/snapweb/snapweb.html
And if anybody seeing this in the future knows whether or not there is a native way to capture entire Web pages built in to 10.6, please post the info here. Thanks!

  • How to make multi-page PDFs?

A question on this in the Archives did not answer my problem. Until recently, I could easily make multipage PDFs from Pages on my iMac (10.8.4). Now suddenly it only makes a PDF of the first page of multi-page files. Cannot find anyplace to change that back. HOW do I make multi-page PDFs again?

Check this portion of your code.
    if(rs.next())
       response.sendRedirect("02_dashboard_welcome.jsp");
    else
out.println("Wrong username or password");Once the user is authenticated(valid username and password found), he is always redirected to a particular page no matter what kind of user he is. You need to add some if-conditional and redirect him to different pages based on his role.
i have stored their login and password in different tablesI don't understand the need to create different tables for each kind of users. Rather i would do something like this.(Rough Schema)
    USER_ROLE(table)
    1. USER_ROLE_ID (Eg: 1:salesperson, 2:employees etc)
    2. DESC (Eg: salesperson, employees)
    USER TABLE
    1. USER_ID
    2. USER_NAME (Eg: AAA)
    3. PASSWORD (Eg: BBB)
    4. USER_ROLE_ID<Foreign Key, 1 if user is sales person, 2 if user is an employee etc>
Please note that you will have to create a third table to assign role to an user if an user can have more than
one role ie he can be salesperson and employees at the same time.
Now use USER_ROLE_ID to redirect the user to different pages.
Note: This is just an example(may be a worst one). please design your database and business logic as per your requirements.

  • How To Make A "Good" PDF ?

I've posted elsewhere about the hassles I'm having trying to get Export PDF to export my file to Word.
In fact it won't even upload it.
Bombs right at the very end.
Looks like something wrong at the end of the file.
I can't see what's wrong by looking at the PDF. It all performs perfectly wherever I roam in it.
Is there some way I can massage this file to ensure it is in an acceptable 'pure' PDF form?
I have done a 'save as' and had it save with a different name. I'll try upload that but I don't have much hope.
Perhaps I can do a save of half the document and that might work?  And then another half?
I'll try. Meanwhile, if anyone has any ideas... please let me know..

If it won't upload this doesn't sound like anything wrong with the PDF.
Are other PDFs of the same size ok?

  • Indesign to ebook-kindle: how to make table of contents link/jump to first page each chapter?

I have successfully completed the "ebooks: from adobe indesign to the kindle store.pdf"
    I have InDesign CS 5, not 5.5.
I did the indesign doc - export to epub, then converted that epub in Calibre to MOBI format for kindle.
But how do I make a table of contents that link or jump to the beginning of its respective chapter head?
    THANKS!!!

Yes, that fixed it, thanks! I had no idea they clashed like that. I ruthlessly purged all other tables of contents, and then used Layout > Table of Contents to create a new one, and it worked.
It made more sense after seeing in this thread that table of contents styles are more like presets or entities than styles.

  • How to make graphics in Applet not to repaint after I click "refresh"

    Hi, pals
I have some interactive graphics inside an Applet. User can drag and
move the graphic objects. The problem is when user click "Refresh"
button of the web browser, those objects return to their original
positions. What I hope is to make those objects still lie on the new
position that user has moved them to after they click "refresh" or
"back" and "forward" button to return to the applet page.
do I need to write some thread control?
Think when you type new URL in the browser showing the applet and go to the new web page. The system will call
Applet.stop() and destory() to destroy the applet resource used by the
Applet webpage. When you go back to the applet page, the system will
call Applet.init() and start() to recreate it. All previous object
positions and states manipulated by user will return to original.
For example, there's a circle centered at (50,50), you move it to
center (100,100). Then you go to another webpage in the same web
browser frame. When you use "Back" button to return to the Applet, the
circle will be redraw at center (50,50). (why? because the browser call applet.init() and do all process as first time the applet download to your computer) What I hope is the circle still keeps
at its last center (100,100) . This seems impossible to me
since the applet has lost its memory about the center position
(100,100) last time when you go to another page and the system call
    destory() to delete the applet.
    Any suggestion?

I think you can disable page refreshing with javascript, but how, I do not know.
    I wish this is helpfull.

  • How to make a searchable PDF from an AutoCAD DWG file

We have PDF files created from AutoCAD, but they are not searchable using Adobe Reader X.  I checked the source DWG file to find what font was used, as suggested in an old post, and found that the DWG uses Arial font.  I am not sure what version of AutoCAD was used to create the file, but I can open it with AutoCAD LT 2011.  Can anyone guide me to a way to make searchable PDF files from these DWG files?

Ok, this is as I feared; something CAD programs are particularly likely to do is draw text with a pen, rather than use text. There might be options in AutoCAD to control this.
