Home hub causing problems with phone line

I posted earlier about a phone extension problem- it seems the hub is the problem. My phone had no dial tone just lots of noise, there doesnt seem to be a wiring problem, however if I unplug the home hub the phone will work fine! I have tried a new cable to the hub, tried microfilters which I know are ok, but the problem is no dial tone ,noise, or a recorded voice saying please try again. I assume the hub has a fault unless someone has any other rsuggestions

have you tried connecting the hub and a phone to the test socket using a filter

  • Major Problem with Phone Line and Support.

Well my problem started about a month and week ago. The problem is that my phone line is messed up. My line drops out unexpectedly and I cant receive calls or send calls. If it does work then the phone only rings for half a second 3 times. If you dont pick it up mostly on the first ring you cant answer the call. And if it doesnt the caller who calls me gets a verizon voice message thing that is setup for the previous owner of the phone number. We called verizon a month ago and setup a appointment for the 18th. Well they called the 17th and said they were sorry they missed us for the appointment on the 17th. We told them it was on the 18th and they said that they guess they forgot to call to tell us the date was changed to the 17th. So they said they will have someone out the next day, on the 18th. We waited at home and they still didnt show up. We called and they set a appointment on the 28th. We waited and they never came again. Now its the 30th and its getting rediculous. We refuse to pay for a service that will never be fixed and we cant use but for 1/3 of the time, if lucky. Is there any fix to this other than getting another appointment?

It sounds to me like your phone line has a short somewhere.  If it was a "hard short", your phone wouldn't work at all.  But yours rings, and then shorts out.  Could be a wiring issue, or it could be a phone issue.  I would unplug all equipment (phones, faxes, computers, etc).  Then take one good phone to a jack and plug it in.  See if the problem still exists.  If it is still a problem, try a different phone at that same jack.  If it's cleared, the problem is with the first phone, if it's still there, unplug the phone and try a different jack.  If the problem cleared, the trbl is at the first jack.  If it's still there, then you either have a short somewhere inside your home wiring, OR the phone number MIGHT BE FORWARDING to another number (which would explain the strange message that callers receive).  Find out how to remove call forwarding in your area (usually by hitting *73 on your phone).  Please post results.

  • Problem with phone line after installation of BT I...

    Hi,
After persuading my dad (86) to switch from aol to BT infinity he is still without a working phone line.  The phone line worked perfectly before switching to BT.  Bt infinity was installed 5 weeks ago and ever since then his phone line developes a loud buzzing noice then breaks up completely after about 1-2 minutes into a call.  Has been reported to BT several times, 4 BT engineers have been out to try and fix the problem without any success.  We do not seem to be getting anywhere with BT and do not know what to do next.
Any help/advice would be gratefully received.

  • Problem with phone line

    Hi there,
I have been having problems with my phone line since May. The line is fine until one day I will pick up to make a call and there will be no dial tone. The tones on the keypad make a noise but the call doesn't happen. No one can get hold of me on my landline. When I get my son to do a line check the phone works again for a few days and then the problem starts again. This has all started since I got broadband. I have had two visits from engineers, the last one being Friday 20th August. That engineer told me he couldn't understand what was happening, he thought it might be the old underground cables and they couldn't cope with the broadband. I have the same issue again and am at my wits end. What should I do next?

    Hi Coomrith and welcome
Did the engineer say whether he was going to escalate this?

  • Problem with phone line after moving flats

I have moved to a new flats 3 months ago.  We transferred our BT line (BT is our phone and internet provider) to our new flat, internet works fine, but the phone line doesn't! We are not able to call anyone, or receive any calls. Is it something we can do to fix it on our own or should we call an engineer? Will it cost us anything if we call a BT engineer?
    THank you in advance!

  • Home Hub 5 problems with other router connected.

So here's a bit of a strange one...
I've had the HH5 connected as just a simple router (disabled both WiFi radios 2.4 and 5GHz) for about 4 or 5 months, with the HH5 plugged into my DIR-655 which I use for WiFi. Randomly on Friday my internet connection stopped working, even the devices plugged in via Ethernet stopped working, and the HH5 kept doing its light cycle Orange, Green, Blue etc.
I rang customer support and was on the phone for 45 minutes or so until she said that she could see a fault on the line. So I just took her word for it and waited for an engineer to come. Except the day before he came, I thought I would just try disconnecting my router and switching the HH5's WiFi back on. And the internet connection magically came back to life! I cancelled the engineer and left the setup like this for a few days. Last night I tried putting it back to how the setup was before the problem started, and haven't had any problems so far.
Has anybody experienced anything similar? Is there some sort of "calling home" that the HH5 does? I presume there's no problem in me not using their router for WiFi!?
    Solved!

Just seems stupid that the router has to have WiFi enabled to function properly, it's bad enough I have to use it at all.
That's right, but it's because the firmware is now broken by the latest update and turning on the wireless is a fix.
It's not perfect, but it's better than having the Homehub rebooting all the time.

  • Intermittent problem with the line

I have an intermittent problem with my line which crackles or you miss parts of a conversation because voices spoken or listened to keep coming and going all the time or the phone cuts out altogether
Telephone the help line which said that the line was OK at that moment as they did the other time I called keeps on happening on a daily basis every time we get a call.
Next door neighbour and other neighbours around this close all linked to the same local bt or open reach cabinet all tell me they have the same problem.
Neighbours called their own phone company who rent the line off of BT who got an open reach engineer out the next day and found that the local exchange or cabinet next to the house across the road from me all the phone line coverings have corroded away and that the wires are all damaged and corroding away or rotting away.
So the local road (culdisack) has to be dug up and the exchange and wires have to be replaced from that junction box to the next junction box or exchange, what i want to know is when will this be done as all the neighbours and i have been reporting it to BT for ages but it was not till next door got their company to investigate was the problem found.
How long till we have to wait for a repair and better lines back to a good service, Months, years. when?
It would not be so bad but i have a lifeline connected to my phone so if i am in trouble it calls for help but with the fault with the line half the time it cannot get a single message or call out and before now i have been left on the floor for ages before someone came back home to get me off the floor as the box just said the phone line was disconected and could not get a dial tone or call out.

  • I have two Iphones with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID. Will that cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

I have two Iphones 5 with different email addresses sharing one Apple ID account. Both are using IOS 8.
I would like to set up a new Apple Id for one of the phones and remove it from the old account.
If I do that, can I move all of the purchased apps and songs to the new Apple account?
Also, will sharing one Apple ID account with two devices cause problems with using messaging and FaceTime?

Sharing an iCloud account between two devices can be done without causing issues with iMessage and FaceTime, just go into Settings for each of these functions and designate separate points of contact (i.e. phone number only, or phone number and unique email address).  While that works, you'll then face the problem where a phone call to one iPhone will ring both if on the same Wi-Fi network -- but again, that can be avoided by changing each phone's settings.
Rather than do all that, don't fight it -- use separate IDs for iCloud.  You can still use a common ID for iTunes purchases (the ID for purchases and iCloud do not have to be the same) or you can use Family Sharing to share purchases from a primary Apple account.

  • Over the course of many years I seem through using different computers to have several apple ids and three email addresses, this is causing problems with synchronising, I have an iPod, iPhone and ipad

    Hi there
Sorry for hijacking your thread as put by Dahveed. However I have resolved my issue so I thought I'll share it with the rest of you.
I checked for the error 3194 in youtube and I found some good videos that tell you how to resolve the problem. The issue I was facing was the actually (I know because I have resolved it now) the communication between my computer and apple server which can be fixed as following (if you are using windows):
There is file in following directory:
    C:\Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts
The file normally has no extension and it is in file format. You need to open it and make sure that every line that has apple server id starts with "#". In my case one of the line started directly with the ip address and then gs.apple.com.
Perform your restore/update after that and hopefully it should be resolved (mine did).
    Cheers

  • X-Fi Notebook has a problem with headset/line-in

0X-Fi Notebook has a problem with headset/line-in` First the basics:
    -HP Pavillion dv6000
    -Intel Core 2 Duo @ .83 GHz
-Windows Vista Home and Student (SP) 32 bit
    -3 GB RAM
    Ok, now the problem:
-Ever since I got my Sound Blaster X-Fi card for this past christmas, I've had a problem with using the headset/lin-in port on it. Its only now that it's gotten to be a big enough irritation for me to need to fix it. I went to play some BF2 and hook up my earphone/microphone combo. The problem is, that the default recording device "Line-in" doesn't detect any sound when I have it plugged in. Further more, when I change it to "SB X-Fi micropone" it does detect my voice, but its on some kind of feedback loop, because it then transmits whatever the mic picks up onto my speakers/headphones/whatever I have plugged into it as an output. Its almost like they have the "line-in" and "microphone" functions either switched or blended into one. I did a complete reinstall of the drivers and software, but no luck. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks guys

    Hi,
What I mean is the microphone jack on your x-fi notebook. since you are saying you can hear yourself when you switch the recording source to microphone, I would assume that you have plugged in a microphone into your x-fi notebook. You should check if there is a microphone control on your volume mixer and whether it is unmuted if there is one. There are many sound card which allows for the microphone audio to be heard on the speaker output if the microphone source is unmuted.

  • Problems with horizontal lines on the iMac. Someone knows the solution?

For several months my Imac has horizontal lines have been growing. Problems with horizontal lines on the iMac. Someone knows the solution?

You have 14 days to return the computer w/no questions asked.  Plus you have 90 days of FREE phone tech support on top of your standard 1 year warranty unless you also purchased AppleCare which gives you an additional 2 years of coverage plus FREE phone support.
Strongly suggest that you take FULL advantage of the above before it runs out.  Let Apple deal w/the problems.
That being said, no new Mac comes w/Snow Leopard which your profile confirms you have.

  • At a loss with phone line and broadband

    Hi,
First of all, sorry for cross posting this, but as you might gather I'm currently stuck between a rock and a hard place.
    http://community.bt.com/t5/Phones/At-a-loss-with-phone-line/td-p/54639
I'm not going to repeat everything in that post, just to say when all equipment is unplugged and you get crackles and white noise through the phone, it can not be equipment, no matter how intermittent. Am I correct?
The main reason for cross posting is around the annoying BRAS IP profile. It seems that for 30mins of static, I get stuck on a 130k profile for 3days. I could cope with the occasional outage or slow down, but 3days is half a week and when you have the recent bad weather, you get 1day of decent profile before the next spat! As a result of this, I would like to see if anyone else in the community has been through similar?
I will point out that I have been working in IT for 13years, so I like to pretend that I know something about things, but I must say that BT is one of the only companies that I deal with and dealt with that seem insistent on blaming the customer for everything.

Java 6 you can't as Apple maintains it, and Java 7 you could if you uninstall it and Oracle provides the earlier version which they likely won't his last update fixed 37 remote exploits.
Java broken some software here and there, all you'll have to do is wait for a update from the other parties.
