I installed firefox on OSX Mountian Lion and the icon disappears off of dock when I restart
I installed firefox on OSX Mountian Lion and the icon disappears off of dock when I restart. I get a question mark instead but when I click on it the firefox icon reappears.
Drag Firefox to a location on the hard disk and launch it from there instead of the mounted dmg.

back in the days of leopard, the dashboard widgets would come to the foreground but you could still see what you were working on. Now I've updated to mountain lion and the work is no longer visible when I activate dashboard. Can I change that back?
Go to system preferences, mission control, and unselect "Show Dashboard as a Space". While you're there, you may want to make dashboard set to a hot corner "Hot Corners" button at the bottom.

This has happened after uninstalling Firefox, twice and downloading it twice.
Did you check if the Firefox file is in that location?
If it isn't there then do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.
If the file is there then do a malware check with some malware scan programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.<br />

Downladed web printing and the icon disappeared
I clicked on the icon, it said I needed to downlaod an update, I did and now the icon is gone. I've had the printer out of the box for all of two hours....help....
What version of OSX, MacBook Pro and Pages are you running?
How did you buy and install Pages?
If your computer froze that iis a problem in itself and may indicate a problem with your Hard Drive.
Open Disk Utility and check what S.M.A.R.T. reports at the bottom of the window, then run Verify/Repair over your Hard Drive.

Hotsync Manager crashes and tray icon disappears
Hi, whenever I try to run Hotsync on my computer (XP Pro) the program immediately crashes and the icon disappears from the systray. I tried to uninstall and reinstall the whole thing, reboot my pc, etcetera, but it keeps crashing.
This is the error I get:
'HotSync® Manager Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.'
Error signature:
AppName: hotsync.exe AppVer: 7.0.2.0 ModName: hslog20.dll

Post relates to: Treo 680 (Unlocked GSM)I have the same issue; HotSync won't run (crashes upon start up). I removed the Palm Desktop v. 6.2 completely, downloaded the entire package again and re-installed. HotSync still won't run. This is all on my home PC (WinXP).
I have the same OS on my office machine..HotSync works there. It leads me to believe something has become corrupted with HotSync on the home PC and it isn't being fully removed during the removal process AND it's not being over written during the installation. It worked well for a few months.
Additionally, I find the Access Desktop package to be slow when searching and saving. I've just about had it with Palm devices and the lame Desktop software. -
My new iMac has recently had OSX Lion installed on it and now when I start the machine it looks like its updating something every time, and the wireless doesn't work. So I restart and everything is OK - until I have to start up again the next time - then I have to repeat this again! Any help appreciated.
I've been having the same issue, but have just discovered something on my own that hasn't been pointed out in any of the forums I've visited. In what I thought would be a vain attempt to help myself, I went to System Preferences, Users & Groups, and then clicked on Login Items. I discovered that one of the Items that was listed to open automatically upon login was iTunes Helper and that there was an exclamation point beside it indicating that it was incompatible. I simply deleted that item and now I don't have the situation you described and my wireless is connected. Hope this helps!

just bough OSX Mountain Lion, my laptop operating with v10.6.8. Can't install OSX Mountain Lion, on the disk selection screen i cant select the Macintosh HD to install OSX giving a message (This disk cannot be used to start up your computer).only have one disk to select and my partition map scheme is GUID partition table. 24.44gb disk available.

To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now try installing Mountain Lion. -

Just a wild guess: Is the installer of your version a PowerPC App? I have Final Cut Express - it is universal, but the installer is PPC and I can't use it to install. As a workaround, I have a working Snow Leopard partition and copied every file from there onto the same location on ML - it works fine. That assumes you know where all the files are located. -
OSX Mountain Lion and Excel Scrolling
I just installed OSX Mountain Lion and now when I open a either a new or existing Excel spreadsheet the screen continuously scrolls to the right. Anyone know how to resolve this. I've restarted the machine several times and it still does it.
I see the spiraling nebula, Lion, elephant, grass, etc. pictures here in ML 10.8.2. If you have a folder of pictures, that contains one or more additional picture folders, ML will only image the top folder with screen saver. The types of slideshows have changed too.
Suggest you find someone running ML and take a look. -
Mountian Lion and all the flashy animation
I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion (10.8.1) and I have absolutely no idea why. There is so much swooshy flying around of windows and little details that are inexplicably different, performance is really slow overall. A good example is Preview, going to full screen view, all the windows underneath slide off to the side...but it's all choppy. This is just silly... Firefox as well seems to be very slow all the sudden.
Are there any tutorials on improving performance with Mountian Lion, or at least turning off some of the fancy animation?
And why does the scroll button now operate in exactly the opposite fashion: scrolling the wheel down moves window contents up, vice versa. Disorientating and baffling...
Thank you for any guidance on improving performance with "Mountain Lion."Lion added both the full screen and natural scroll direction features you mentioned last year. Mountain Lion simply continues to use them.
If you don't care for the scroll direction change, you can undo it in System Preferences > Trackpad > Scroll & Zoom.
If you don't care for the full screen, you don't have to use it either. It is invoked by pressing the diagonally pointing arrows in the top right of the screen. -
Just installed Lion and the Magic TrackPad and I am having a problem with one click commands. I have to hit the pad fairly hard with one finger to get it to accept the command. Is this normal, is there another way that I am suppose to execute commands?
No you just need to turn on Tap to Click. Go into System Preferences - Trackpad and click the Point to Click tab and select the first box which will say Tap to Click and you should be in business.
