hai every one ...i have a doubt how  to interface N5181A MXG signal Generator with Labview by using LAN Interface???? and
how to find IP Address of N5181A MXG signal Generator????????
when i connect instrument with labview it shows that no instrument connected and what are the requirements for LAN interfacing with that instruments in labview and please help me??????

You can set the IP Address on the instrument.  You may need to be in the same subnet of your controlling computer, so you may need to set your computer's IP Address to something static.
Use VISA.  It makes life easier if you decide to use another bus (like GPIB, USB, serial, etc).  In MAX, create a network session with the static IP address you set the instrument to and use that as the VISA Resource.

  • Replacing a PLC with LabView Article

I just read the article "Replacing a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with LabVIEW and FieldPoint for Composting Plant Automation ". I am very concerned by the author's lack of knowledge about current PLC's. This article does not fairly compare the two platforms and is not accurate. For example, the author states that 100 msec is a typical response time for a PLC. This is absurd. Today, even low end PLCs can achieve responses time below 10 msec and high end PLCs even as low as 1 msec. It all boils down to specifying the right hardware for the application. One real danger the author does not address with building a "soft PLC" is the potential for the I/O not to fail to a safe condition if the operating system (Windows) lock
s up. This can be disastrous and unsafe for many control applications. I would suggest any reader that is seriously considering replacing a PLC in an industrial environment with a "soft PLC" watch out for this potential shortcoming. Readers can visit www.isa.org to find additional information on this issue.
I would not dispute that for a pure data acquisition application LabView can offer a superior solution. The safety conern can be mitigated if there is a "hard wired" safety system that has been properly designed. However, many times the PLC may provide safety shutdowns that depend on its true deterministic operating system and high reliability.
I hope that readers will not interpret this as a slam against LabView but as encouragement research this issue further from a different perspective.

I can see from your comments that you have a firm grasp of the PLC/vs PC concept, and agree with your comments. I have been an instrumentation developer/integrator for 36+ years, and have first hand experience with the situation(s) to which you refer. I have found the optimum solution has been a combination of PC/MMI software and PLC hardware. I have many such systems up and running in different industries, and have found this to be the best overall solution. Let the PC do what it does best(MMI display, complex calculations and decision making), and the PLC what it does best(solid deterministic control, with a non-windows operating system). I usually use an OPC server for communication between the two units, and with proper software design on both ends,
and a hardwired E-Stop system, excellent overall opertion/safety is achieved.
Your comments should serve as good stimulus for other developers.

  • Connecting Agilent DSO3062A Oscilloscope with LabVIEW using USB

I am trying to connect Agilent DSO3062A Oscilloscope with LabVIEW using USB but the device is not recognized by MAX. I have installed the drivers for scope and it works fine with the scope software. The problem is LabVIEW dosen't recognize the scope. Please tell me the procedure of setting up the scope with LabVIEW 8.2. I am using Windows XP.

    Hi there,
I think the issue is that the DSO3062A will not be recognized by LabView as a GPIB instrument through the USB connection. If you check out the 3000 series manual (http://cp.literature.agilent.com/litweb/pdf/D3000-97016.pdf) you'll notice on page 8 it says you can't use the USB for programming, it can only be used with their scope software. You need the N2861 module installed on the back to connect via GPIB, and then a GPIB interface to your computer. I hope that helps.

  • Running 2 stepper motors with LabVIEW using RMV ST400-NT controller and driver

Hello, I am new to programming as well as motors in general so please bare with me in my attempt to explain myself. I have a project involving laser therapy and I am attempting to control two stepper motors from Falhauber, Type AM2224-R3-AV-4.8. I will be using a RMV ST400-NT controller and driver. Original plan was to use 3 stepper motors for control in 3 axis but realized 2 axis is complicated enough. My power source is an Agilent E3630A. I am new to this whole thing and from what I have read form examples and other posts is that NI drivers seem to work best for these applications. I've written simple programs from examples, reading and watching videos. I want to know whether it's possible for these to work together using LabVIEW and also a nudge to help me get started would be much appreciated. Can someone please help guide me in the right direction, I feel a bit lost when it comes to all this. Thank you for your time and consideration.  Also, I will be using Windows 8 laptop with Labview 8.5. I have attached pics of components I will be using.

    Hi jtarula,
I want to preface this response by saying that I am mre familiar with NI controller and driver rather than the one that you have. I am assuming that you are using the dll provided by the manufacturer here:
    http://www.rmv.com/download.htm
With these, you should be able to interface with LabVIEW using the call library function node. What the controller is capable I am uncertain of. I am certain that you should be able to since another user has commented on the use in LabVIEW before in another forum post.
I also want to let you know that LabVIEW 8.5 is not supported on Windows 8, which means that you may run into some compatibility issues. Here is the compatibility chart.

  • How to setup and configure NI OPC Server to OMRON PLC (CJ2H model) using FINS Ethernet communication protocol?

    Hi,
Could someone help me in the setup and configuration of NI OPC server to OMRON PLC (CJ2H model) using FINS Ethernet communication protocol? I already read some materials available in the web but it uses a different PLC and communication protocol. The OPC server is installed in my laptop and I'm using Windows 8 as my OS. I used a cross over RJ45 LAN cable and connected to the ETN21 module of the PLC. I was able to confirmed the communication of my laptop and PLC by pinging the ip address of the ETN21. I also tried to configure the OPC server based on the documents I just read online. I created a channel, device and tag to the OPC server. By the way, I just need to read the data from the tag I created. Can someone also tell me how to monitor the data on the tag? I hope that you could help me. Thank you in advance.

    Good day,
Try following the instructions on the driver’s help, take a look at the attach picture. It should be a good starting point. After the PLC is configured you can use this tutorial (Connect LabVIEW to Any PLC Using OPC » http://www.ni.com/white-paper/7450/en/) for a guide on how to monitor the tags.
    I hope this helps

    Hello Chad
Thanks for the pin out information. I tried that pin out configuration Monday and it did not work. I am pasting a copy of a communication with Allen Bradley in this comment box as well as a communication with another programmer that commented in here as well. Please read it and let me know what you think. Thanks again Chad.

Everything works well, from the LPD OPC Server to creating TAGS..to using the HMI wizard on the front panel,...but there is no communication with my hardware. An NI Application Engineer came by yesterday and we concluded that this was a hardware ware communication problem. I talked with an Automation Engineer in Austin yesterday and he told me to try RSLinx and see if I could get it to communicate with the hardware. I like that HMI wizard, it is pretty cool! I am pasting a copy of an email I sent to Allen Bradley so you can see a little bit more information about my hardware. thanks for your help again Khalid.
{{{I am having much difficulty in communicating to my PLC 2 communication port or through my RS-232 port on my 1771-KG card. I am using a serial (null modem) cable on com port 1 on my PC. I have Win98 operating system. I am using LabView Datalogging and Supervisory control (Lookout) software to create several HMI?s. Can you please give me the pinouts that I need to communicate with the processor port on the PLC and or the 1771-KG card? Please contact me as soon as possible for I really need to get this to communicate so I can get started on this HMI upgrade. We are using PanelMates as HMI?s, but they are 13 years old and are failing frequently as well as being obsolete. At the present time I am creating new HMI?s but we are planning to do one fuel processing line at a time and replacing the PLC 2.3 with PLC-5 and then we can use the Ethernet module. Please call me at 313-972-4635 I do not have my own email at work so you will need to email any communications to my supervisor Fred Jacobsen he then will pass it on to me. Hi Sachin,
These cameras will be interfaced throught ethernet or USB. Will they be connected to the PC running Win XP or are you looking to interface them with the cRIO.

  • How to creat the interface of auto CAD file with labview

     Hi
I have been controling  2-axis Piezo motor  with labview. Now I have to use the dwg or dxf file  to move the piezo controller axis. How I can  transform the  dwg or dxf  file into  decimal number 1, -1   to create interface with my labview.

    Hi Nusrat,
So it sounds like you want to create a CAD drawing and then control your piezo motor via LabVIEW by moving the CAD drawing?  Is that correct?
If that is correct - I don't know of a way to do this I'm afraid.  I don't think it's really possible.
The only potential way to do this is to use SolidWorks as your CAD program and then convert the SolidWorks drawing into an STL file, which can then be imported into LabVIEW as a 3D picture control.  I can't think of any other way to achieve this.
    These examples might help you:

STL Geometry in 3D Picture Control
    The Pitch Perfect Tuner
Develop Motion Applications with RIO and SolidWorks
    NI SoftMotion for SolidWorks

    I hope that helps.

  • Can i communicate with labview, using ethernet or seriel modbus.

Is it possible to communicate with a i/o module and labview. I can communicate with ethernet, canbus(cscan, devicenet), rs232(modbus).
    What is the easiest solusion.
Is it necessary to buy PC-cards for the communication or have only to download some drivers.
    Thx

    Hello,
To communicate with a CAN/DeviceNET bus you will need an interface card in your PC. NI has such cards along with LabVIEW VIs:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=1329〈=US
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=1311〈=US
To communicate with Modbus, you will NOT need any special cards but you do need software drivers for it (you'll obviously need an Ethernet card for TCP/IP and Serial port for RS232). There are several options for these drivers, however:
    1. Write your own driver VIs. You'll basically implement the Modbus protocol in LabVIEW. Modbus is a simple and open protocol.
    2. Try to search the Net for such existing VIs. I believe someone has already written such Modbus VIs.
    3. Use the Industrial Automatio
n OPC Servers suite from NI:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=4584〈=US
    4. Use any third-party OPC Server for Modbus.
NOTE: in case you opt 3 or 4 above: though you may use DataSocket in LabVIEW as an OPC Client, you may want to consider LabVIEW-DSC which has a built-in OPC Client, and hence better support for OPC.
Hope this gives you some options.

  • Trouble getting consistent voltage readings with LabVIEW using a 1102/B

    Here's the situation:
I have an optical sensor with reflector that I'm using these to determine the velocity of a rotating wheel. (actually it's a spool of cable)
    no beam reflection = 0 Vdc (actually it's floating from 0 - 2 volts)
    beam reflection = 10Vdc
This is hooked up to an 1102/B channel configured for reading voltage in MAX
Now, everything is fine at slower speeds.  The trouble is when the velocity increases...
I'm using a DAQmx read VI in LV 7.1 to read the virtual channel I set.  It's in a while loop, outputting to a chart.
The reads are missing reflections at higher speeds, but only seems to happen in LabVIEW.  The cable needs to be letting out at 2 ft/sec.
Now, the sensor has an indicator light that says when it's seeing the reflected beam.  When I spin the wheel by hand (faster than the necessary speed) the sensor says it's picking up the reflectors (2 at 180 deg apart).  When I open MAX, and the test panel for that channel, I see that I have to increase the "sampes to read" to about 5k and the "rate" to 5kHz.   At that point, MAX  sees every beam reflection as well.
Within LV, it still misses...  even with the loop delay set to 5ms.   I'm hesitant to go much lower with the delay...
The final destination for this reading function will be in a fairly large VI with a lot of serial communication to external instruments.
    Anyone have any advice?
    Thanks!
    Chuck

    Hi Chuck,
Looks like you are configuring a DAQmx task/global channel
My suggestion would be why not use any continous voltage read examples you will find in the examples shipped with LabVIEW?
Go to examples>>Hardware input output>>DAQmx>>Analog measurements>>Voltage in this folder find and use the example VI cont-acq-volt-int-clk.VI ( named something like that ) read its documentation to know how to use it
    Or find the VI here
    any doubts, do get back

  • Is there a problem with Allen Bradley PLC and web server export options

It says this object will not run in a client version. I have a development version and a client version. Maybe I'm not understanding the error message. Lookout 5.0

The process you upload to a web server needs to be a poor client process. It means you have to create a client process without the PLC driver and a server process with the PLC driver. You will just upload the client process and the server process will stay on the Lookout Server machine.
There are several links on the support site those explain the prefered client-server architecture to choose for a Lookout application.
