OBIEE 11g Controlling Print Option in Dashboard

Hi All,
We have a requirement in which we need to secure Print and Export option to specific users/groups only. OBIEE does not have any security option by which we can restrict print option to specific groups.
Only 1 option is to create multiple sections and apply security on the sections. This is what I can think of.
Please suggest me if there are any workarounds so that we can restrict print and export option only to certain groups.

Controlling print options esp. fit to page

is there a way to control print options, particularly fit to page, from within the PDF itself?
We provide print ready files for our clients who print them as needed, but they are brochures that are set up for fit to page OFF, otherwise the white border (because it can't bleed) around it is uneven.
So they would send the file to our print shop and the printer would automatically print it with this option off, based on the pdf settings for that document.

Go to Properties (Crtl+D) and the advanced tab, you can set the print porperties that will come up by default there, it is still possible to over ride them though.

OBIEE 11g - controlling # of items shown in a dashboard prompt

Hi, I have a dashboard that lists the 30 baseball teams in MLB. I would like to put this as a prompt of check boxes going down the side of a dashboard. But the prompt always displays with vertical scroll bars and only shows 15 or so teams at a time. Is there a way to force OBIEE 11g to show all 30 checkboxes without using the scroll bars?
I've tried manually adjusting the height of the dashboard column, etc. - nothing seems to work.

I don't thnk manually adjusting the height of the dashboard column would help in this .
Viewing all the values at once (without scrolling down) , also eat up a biggeer space in ur dashboard .
Instead of that , why can't u use the auto complete functionality for obiee 11.1.1.6 ? This will ease the effort of scrolling and searching manually .

How to incorporate print option in Dashboard

Hi All,
We are having dashboard which having multiple grids. I wolud like to enable print option for the entire dashboard aswell as for the individual grid. I am surprise there is no print option available in the dashboard as of now. Can anyone help me with some thoughts on this.

I understand what you mean. I had the same problem, but I was able to limit print to whole dashboard, not request by request.
1. You can try add logo in title of request that you would like to print. PDF and print control is setting printing of whole dashboard, not request.
2. Or if you have more request in dashboard you can set "Collapsible" option on each request, so that user can choose which request he would like to print with logo (header). If you are using this method you must disable print option on every request, and allow only printing the whole dashboard.
If I haven't explain in understandable way please let me know, I will try to explain it again.

OBIEE 11g: Subscribe to Agents through Dashboard page?

Hi all,
I have created a set of agents which would deliver personalized content to subscribing users based on their OBIEE username. The agents work great, however I am stuck at finding a simpler way to allow various users to subscribe to said agents.
The standard subscription method is cumbersome: Go to Catalog, browse to where agents are, Click More, select Subscribe. I don't want my users wandering around through a pretty thick catalog only to subscribe to an agent. Chances are they'll wander off, mess up, fail to subscribe or not even bother to try in the first place. What I would rather do is have them go to a dashboard and click on something to subscribe directly, without caring where the agents are located.
A dodgy workaround I have implemented is to put up a link to an URL which is the catalog location of the agents. Users would click on that link and they will see the list of agents, allowing them to subscribe/unsubscribe. Still, I would like to simplify this further, if possible. Any ideas?

I am trying to display ‘help’ section on every dashboard or Create a separate Help Dashboard Page …
Tried using "Link or Image" object option and Uploaded the pdf’s to Help file *(/Shared Folders/Help)* – Let say the PDF Name is Employee_Expenses.pdf
So I am using the URL for link object as
URL= saw.dll?downloadFile&path=%2Fshared%2FHelp%2FEmployee_Expenses.pdf
Image = fmap:Images/help.gif (Do I need to have help.gif in /Shared Folders/Help folder Cause I don’t have it…)
It’s not working – Any Ideas….

Controlling print options through triggers

Hi,
I developed a report which runs in 2 modes.
1. Automatic mode(runs in a request set)
2. Manual Mode(submitted manually through SRS as a single request)
I got a new requirrment where I need to print the output when print flag is Y and the report is in Automatic mode.
Always print when in manual mode.
After a bit of googling, I found this API
fnd_request.set_print_options (printer =>’<printer name>’,
style =>’PORTRAIT’,
copies=>1,
save_output => TRUE,print_together => ‘N’)
would it work in my case?
If so, I am guessing that I will have to use in After Report Trigger.

I suggest you you post your question in the [EBS General Discussion|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=475] forum. You should get a much faster response to your question. It's my understanding that EBS controls whether output is automatically printed through a User Profile setting. Its been a while since I've worked with the EBS so I could be wrong.

Controlling print options in acrobat

Hi,
I am new to this forum. Just started using acrobat at work and i need some help. I was wondering if it is possible to set the print feature to make a pdf not printable until you select a checkbox in it, then the pdf would be able to print. If this is possible could you tell me how to do this or where to go to learn how?

You will have to use JavaScript to test the conditions and make the button visible. But you will not be able to stop the use of the menu action "File => Print" or the <Ctrl> +"P" keystroke action.

OBIEE 11g Server running but URL dashboard not opening

Hi My admin and BI manage server is running however i am not able to open the Dashboard. it is giving me the below URL...

I had the exact same problem.
To solve the problem, I made sure that the RPD password was correct. I had typed this incorrectly (probably with Caps Lock on) when putting in the SampleApp RPD.
You can modify this password by going to the FM Enterprise Manager:

- After logging on, go to Farm_bifoundation_domain / Business Intelligence in the tree on the left
- Select coreapplication
- On the right, select the "Deployment" tab, and the "Repository" subtab
- Click Lock & Edit Configuration button
- Change the repository password, make sure it is correct - I did this by typing the password in a notepad file, and to check it I opened the RPD file in offline mode in the administration tool, and then copy/pasted the password in. If the RPD file opens without problems in the AdminTool, then copy/paste the password into the two fields in the Enterprise Manager.
- Click Apply and then the Activate Changes button
- Now you need to restart the services. Click the link "Restart to apply recent changes". This will take you to the "coreapplication" - Overview tab, where you can click on the blue "Restart" button to restart the services.
After restarting it worked fine for me.

OBIEE 11g Prompt's default value doesn't work with a presentation variable

Hi, I'm using OBIEE 11g and I have two dashboard prompts (Product Name and Product Number). Theses prompts are hierarquical, so the values that are displayed in the Product Number prompt have dependency with the values chosen on the Product Name prompt. This I was able to do, but now I want to put a default value on the Product Number prompt. The steps are:
1 - The user chooses the value for the Product Name Prompt and by doing that the Product Number prompt is automatically filled with the correspondent value.
But unfortunatelly this is not working, after choosing the value for the Product Name the default value for Product Number is not displayed (when you open the prompt the values displayed are correct and already filtered considering the Product Name but the prompt is not automatically filled with the default value).
What I did is:
On the Product Name Prompt I've created a Presentation Variable called PROD.
On the Product Number Prompt I've selected:
1 - For the "Choice List Values" field I've checked the option "Limit Values by All Prompts"
2 - For the "Default Selection" field I've chosen the SQL Results option and enter the following SQL:
SELECT "Products"."Product Number" FROM "Sample Sales Lite"."Products" WHERE "Products"."Product"='@{variables.PROD}
What am I doing wrong?

Sorry I was wrong in my previous thread.
Actually your approach is not correct, Product Number choose constraint that will show as per the selection of Product Name.
Coming to default value for Product Number you are going for sql override that is okay but not work with variable, instead of setting default values for product number set that to product name.
if not you need to go for 2 different prompts
Prompt 1 Product Name hit GO
Prompt 2 will work based on as you defined earlier with variables

Start BI Services as Windows Service in OBIEE 11g

Hello All,
We need to Automate the Start BI Services in OBIEE 11g.
The options that were tried from my side to achieve the same are as follows:
1) Creating Command files for Admin_Server and BI_Server
2) Creating Utility files installSvc_Admin.cmd and installSvc_BIServer.cmd.
3) Created the Boot file.
4) Ran the Command files.
Still i am unable to automate the Start BI Services. I have to manually Start the BI Services whenever i login to the RDC.

The batch files should be able to solve your problem.

Regarding print option in obiee 11g

i am getting one issue when using print pdf option in obiee 11g.
i have a report in dashboard and for displaying data in that report i have used custom format of columns.
but when i an using print pdf option , it is not retaining custom format of columns of report.
please suggest any workaround to me for this problem.

I think it is expected behavior. Try out saving as html and then saving it as pdf.

How to show all the rows in PRint html option in obiee 11g

I am facing a issue in obiee 11g(windows 2003 server). I have 2 environments (SIT & dev)
In dev I am not facing any issue but in SIT when i print the report in html only 1-25 rows are displayed.
What should i do to see all the rows

In your Dev Server its configured on instanceconfig.xml file that why are getting the all rows with setting pdf/print control properties.

•First 25 Rows — Displays the first 25 rows of data for the view. The number that is used for the First, Previous, and Next buttons is specified by the Rows per Page field in the "Table Properties dialog: Style tab".
•Previous 25 Rows — Displays the previous 25 rows of data for the view.
•Next 25 Rows — Displays the next 25 rows of data for the view.
•Display maximum (500) rows per page — Allows you to display as many as the maximum number of rows per page at one time temporarily. The default is 500. The administrator can specify a different maximum value that is displayed on the tooltip for the button using the MaxVisibleRows element in the configuration file.

OBIEE 11g: Dashboard not invoking simple javascript alert

Hi Experts,
I'm trying to invoke one simple ALERT command with javascript in obiee 11g dashboard. The purpose is when it loads, it should print one ALERT message and also when we change something in the prompt and clicking Apply button.
Here is code written in a text item (Checked html markup option) after prompts;

alert ("Hello");
</script>
The Javascript alert message is showing when the dashboard page loads, but its not coming when we click the Apply button after changing the prompts.
Can anyone give helpful hint, how to check it and why its not showing up when we press Apply button?
Any hint or some useful links will b highly appreciated.

You just used code and I would say the default event is onload of the page, thats the reason you are able to see alert.
Since you didnt ask or written code onClick event to show alert, its not showing.
You need to tell to browser when to prompt alert message instead of onload.
Hope you are more confuse about 'how to do'
