ORA-01722 when opening a package in SQL Developer 1.2 with oracle 9iR1

Hi,
I use SQL Developer with Oracle Database 9i release 1.
When I open a package in SQL Developer 1.2 (or 1.5) for editing, I receive the error ORA-01722. The package successfully opens but this message, which pops everytime, is really annoying.
I monitored the requests sent by SQL Developer and it seems that the following request is responsible of the error :
SELECT LINE,POSITION,TEXT,ATTRIBUTE FROM USER_ERRORS WHERE TYPE=:1AND NAME=:2
Notice there are no spaces between ':1' and 'AND'. When executing 'by hand' the request with SQL Developer, it asks for the value of '1AND' bind variable and the value of '2'. Then, it fails to execute with... ORA-01722.
Is it possible to avoid this bug ?
Thank you for your help.

We're doing rolling 2 week releases until production. Expect something new next week.

However it hasn't so next thing I do is go the connections navigator to open a package which is the workaround for the above bug (any update on when that is going to be fixed would be appreciated).
If I double click to open a package I get an error message

Stupidly used the rich text editor which doesn't seem to work too well

    JB,
There actually is a post from the team in this thread ;-)
The patch on 3/30 was not scheduled to fix any other errors other than the import issue we encountered. We included an LDAP fix and a 9i performance query issue. The exact bugs fixed are listed in the check for updates detail before you download the fix.
All bugs can be logged with Metalink, that is the primary place for logging and tracking bugs. The forum is for discussions on how to use the product - for pointers and advice.
    Paul,
By your long standing bug, I assume you mean that .pks, pkb and .plb files are opened in the PL/SQL Editor. This has been fixed in 1.5.4.
What has not been done and has been scheduled for 2.0 is the ability to associate any extension with a file and then open that file with the pl/sql editor.
For all encountering the ora-00904 error, this is specifically related to opening PL/SQL in a 9i database and we have a bug logged for that.

  • NullPointerException when opening a script in SQL Developer 4.0.0.12

I recently upgraded to SQL Developer v.4.0.0.12 64 bit, and am running into some issues.
I am running this on 64 bit Windows 7. I have a 64 bit Oracle 11, and in addition have the 32 bit oracle client installed.
I made an association between the .sql file extension and sqldeveloper64W.exe.
However I frequently get a nullpointerexception when clicking on a script in the file explorer.
It seems to occur mostly if I loaded scripts into SQL Developer before.
If I close all the windows before closing SQL Developer and then click on a script in the file manager, things work (startup is arguably slower than v.3).
But in most cases either nothing happens, or I get the NullPointerException below.
    What am I doing wrong?

    Wim

because the message when i test connection always is filed and I'm sure i typing username and password and SID:orcl as i set when install database.port 1158 is what the dbcontrol (Oracle Enterprise Manager) is listening on. OEM is NOT the database. As far as the database is concerned, OEM is "just another client".
Actually, the database doesn't listen for requests on any port. There is another process, the "listener" that listens for requests to connect to the database. Typically, it listens on port 1521. You should have a tnsnames.ora file set up to resolve a connection request to the correct host. You can read more on this at http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/sqlnet_overview/

  • Issue when connecting to database from SQL Developer tool

    Hi,
I was trying to connect to a remote oracle database 10.2.0.5 (hosted at window 2008 R2 server) from my local SQL Developer tool.
When setting up connection in SQL Developer tool, I was able to connect to the database by selecting TNS (Network Allias).
However, it does not work when I choose Basic type with the same information (HOST, PORT, SID).
What is the difference between TNS and Basic setting option? Please advise and assist.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Jia

    Hi JimSmith,
    Thanks for reply.
    TNS entry as below:
    ORCL_DB =
    (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 91.198.252.83)(PORT = 1521)) )
    (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = orcl) (SERVER = DEDICATED) ) )
It works fine if I choose TNS (Network Allias: ORCL_DB).
    For the Basic setting:
    Hostname = 91.198.252.83
    Port = 1521
    SID = orcl
The error I received when connecting to db based on Basic option is Failure -Io exception: The Network Adapter could not establish the connection.
Below are the entries of SQLnet.ora. Any entry should I add into sqlnet.ora?
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
    NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)
    Appreciate your comment.
    Thanks.

  • Creating Data Mining PL/SQL Package in SQL Developer

    hi,
i have built a model and want to create a PL/SQL package.
in SQL developer, i launch a "New Gallery", select "All Items" from the drop-down menu, and click on "Database Objects". but in the right window pane, i am not able to see "Data Mining PL/SQL Package" in the options.
can somebody please tell me how to fix this?
    thanks!

To verify that Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL Package extension is properly installed, please do the following:
Select Menu Help->About, click on "Extensions" tab. Look for "Oracle Data Mining PL/SQL Package" in the Name column ( you can sort it).
If it is, please make a note of the version installed and post it here as well as the SQL Developer version.
Just to clarify, you don't see "Data Mining PL/SQL Package" item in the "Database Objects" at all or is it grayed out?
    Thanks

Use the 'pin' on your table editor
    http://www.thatjeffsmith.com/archive/2011/11/sql-developer-quick-tip-pin-query-result-sets-and-plans/
Then open your 2nd table. If you want to see both at the same time, right-click on the table editor tab and select 'New Editor Tab Group'

  • Can SQL Developer be used for Oracle Support "HTML Output" Diag Scripts ?

    Hi All,
Oracle Support has asked me to run a diagnostic script (OTL_Diag.sql for anyone familar with the script) that produces output in HTML format using SQL*Plus to help troubleshoot an OTL problem we are having. Unfortunately I don't have SQL*Plus installed and my company is not on board with me installing it because of the SQL*NET connection required. Instead I have access to SQL Developer 3.1.0.7. While this works fine for most situations I'm having problems generating the required .html output file that Support needs.
I've tried runing the OTL_Diag.sql a couple of ways using SQL Developer. First, I opened the file from SQL Developer and using the Run Script functionality (F5) I executed the code that way. This method did give me an opportunity to input the necessary parms and it did create the 'start' of the HTML file on my (Windows) file system, but the script seemed to abort with a java error that indicated some sort of format error (sorry, I'm not a java person so I can't provide any more info, but I'll be glad to get the exact error message if anyone thinks that will help solve my issue).
My second approach was to open a SQL Window where I typed in @C:\OTL_Diag.sql without quotes. This approach also gave me the opportunity to enter the necessary input parms and it seemed to end normally. It also created the 'start' of the diaganostic output file on my Windows file system, but it 'completed' before any of the 'real' diaganostic output was written to the .html file.
The Metalink note clearly specifies that the OTL_Diag.sql script is to be run with SQL*Plus 10.2 or above so I don't think I can complain too loudly to Oracle about this...but given that I don't have access to this product (and it is useless for me to again ask to install it) I am hoping someone out there has some ideas or insight as to how I can use SQL Developer to execute this diag script in a manner that will produce the required .html output file.
Thanks in advance to anyone taking time to read my post !!

    >
As a result, at this point in time my only available tool to run the OTL_Diag.sql script (provided by Oracle Support) is SQL Developer
    >
Then you will have to edit the script, break it into pieces, execute each piece manually and save the output to feed into the next piece as required based on what the script is actually doing. Don't post the script or contents as that will likely violate your support agreement.
As I already mentioned the script may be using syntax and/or commands that are simply not supported by sql*developer. One likely area is the script may be producing intermediate output scripts that are then processed by a later portion of the script. If that is the case then my suggestion to execute the pieces manually should work but you will need to do some trial-and-error to see.
Even if you appear to be successful you will still have an issue when you communicate the results of your 'test' to Oracle support and they determine you didn't follow their instructions to use the proper tool.
Sounds like your management is either ignorant or incompetent so I suggest you cover yourself by documentating the instructions from Oracle support and the direct orders you were given to disregard those instructions. No need to discuss that issue further but clearly there are resources available somewhere in the org that has the proper privileges or they wouldn't be able to maintain and support the database. If they want to pay for support they should heed their advice. Nuff said.

  • SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i

    Hi,
I was waiting a tool from Oracle like SQL Developer for a long time, finally it came, but I am a little disapointed, so Why SQL Developer does not support Oracle 8i? Other free tools like SQUIRREL can do it. I also have worked in previous projects using PL/SQL Developer and it works fine...Why a native Oracle tool can not do it?
I am in a project where we have to upgrade the Oracle database to a newer version, but I cannot have access to the old one...
I know there are some threads in this forum, and some people can work with 8i with no issues. Can anyone who works with SQL Developer and Oracle 8i please tell me how to do it?

  • SQL developer not installed with the client software

    Hi All,
    OS: Windows
    Clinet: 11g 64 bit
I have installed oracle client for windows 64 bit, as we know with client installation the sql developer also comes with. But in my case, I am able to find every other component but sql developer.
I am thninking of downloading the same from Oracle site, is there a alternate way for the same?
    Regards,
    Sphinx

    What, exactly, did you install?
Did you install the Instant Client?  Or did you do a full client install?  If you did a full client install, which option did you pick during the installation process-- Administrator, Runtime, or Custom?  If you did a full client install that didn't include SQL Developer, you can always restart the Oracle Universal Installer, do a custom install, and choose to install just SQL Developer.
That being said, my bias would generally be to download the most recent version of SQL Developer from OTN separately.  SQL Developer gets released much more frequently than the Oracle client so the version on OTN is generally multiple revisions more recent than the version that was shipped with the client.  If you're going to be developing code, you may as well leverage all the new features of SQL Developer rather than settling for whatever version was current when 11.2 was released.

  • Which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7

    hi
which sql developer version will support oracle 8.1.7 or is it necessary to use plsql developer to connect to database (oracle 8.1.7)

    Hi,
SQL Developer version 1.2.1 is able to connect to 8.1.7 with limited functionality (prepared reports and browser for objects could not work)..
Next version (tested with 3.2 64-bit) of SQL developer could be "hacked" to connect to 8.1.7 by simply copy file C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\client_1\jdbc\lib\classes12.zip from Oracle client prior 11
    into appropriate jdk\jre\lib\ext folder.
