Playl

Hello, I have used Music Match and Media Player to manage my library. Is there a way to trasnfer these playlist to my Zen Touch. The Media Explorer software is not the most user friendly and I would hate to have to re-do all my playlist. Any idea? I am at the latest sw and firm ware version which gives you Media Player 0 capabilities but I dont see how to transfer the playlists.
Thanks.

For how to import see this thread. I assume it works the same way for the Touch.
I use Notmad to manage my Nomad Jukebox 3, but I'm not sure how well this works with the MTP firmware.

• MediaSource - functionality & playli

Dear all
i have a Zen Touch 40Gb, a large music library and a number of gripes. i apologise in advance for the length of my post but i'd be really grateful for any advice you can send my way. i've searched through a large number of similar threads on this forum but, frankly, i've not seen a lot of answers (one poor chap was told his was a duplicate question but there was no link to the acti've thread so he's probably still searching for the truth!):-
. Saving/Exporting playlists - a lot of people seem to have this problem/complaint: is there really no way of saving a playlist from MediaSource to a .m3u file? (please note, in response to something i read in another post, i've tried synchronising playlists to my Zen Touch and using the separate explorer software but there is no usable playlist file there either that any of my other software will recognise). i'm trying hard not to sound negati've but this seems like a really basic functionality, particularly given that you can IMPORT .m3u playlists into MediaSource - why not export 'em too?!
2. Sorting playlists - has anyone found a workaround in order to sort playlists created in MediaSource? whether i'm creating a compilation, building a mix, creating a sub-group, avoiding duplication of tracks in an existing list or just trying to vary the play order of my tunes this would be a REALLY useful feature and it seems so simple to include in the software. you can sort in the main music library so why not in the playlist view?! again, i haven't been able to sort playlists within the Zen Touch explorer software either. is there any plan to introduce this functionality? are there any practical workarounds?
3. Reporting playlists - it would also be useful to generate a report of track listings either from playlists or selected songs. the report format could be something no more sexy than a tab-separated text file. these can be pasted into a word or excel document and sorted/searched/printed/saved to our hearts' content. in the absence of functions # & #2 above, this would at least give me some options when it comes to saving and sorting my inspired playlists. alternati'vely, if functions # & #2 were available in MediaSource i could probably li've without #3. but with all of them absent i can barely describe MediaSource as an "organiser" because it simply doesn't enable you to do any real organising (if you're as dull as me, obviously!)
4. File conversion - i've a number of .wma files in my library - mainly 92kb
ps.
whenever i try to convert them to mp3 (i have my reasons!!) the process fails. the error message says the "format conversion is not supported". some (but not all) of these files are downloads from Napster but I purchased the tracks and they should therefore be free to burn to cd or to sync with a portable device so i don't think they are protected. is there any reason why i can't achieve this file conversion?
5. Navigation - again a dull and seemingly minor gripe but therein lies my irritation: the "backward" and "forward" buttons in MediaSource do not function like similar buttons in any other file explorer software i have used (whether designed for music files or otherwise). you can't navigate between recently viewed artist or album folders (of which i, and most other users, have many hundreds) - only between the main library and the playlists. it's not the end of the world but this seems like such a basic feature in any other navigation software that i just don't see why MediaSource doesn't work the same way.
Ideally, i would like to use MediaSource to organise all my music but at the very least if there was an EXPORT function i would be able to transfer the extensi've data & playlists i've already generated into other more sophisticated software. i could then tweak them for use in other programs and also re-import amended playlists back into MediaSource. there is plenty of good quality free software out there and some excellent specialist software available for a very minimal outlay that can organise your mp3s and playlists in ways MediaSource users can only dream of (assuming, of course, that you dream about computer programs. i don't, i promise!) if i could export my playlists i could probably ignore MediaSource for anything other than sync-ing with my Zen Touch and use a stand-alone mp3 organiser to manage my music. i would happily settle for this but I'm surprised and disappointed that a company that is so big in the music industry leaves me in this position.
i know i'm moaning (a lot) but these issues seem so basic to me that i am really frustrated with the lack of features in MediaSource. i chose my Zen Touch deliberately over and above any other mp3 player on the market (including the i-pod) for technical reasons and i stand by that decision. however, as another user has commented in this forum, performance doesn't count for very much if there is no functionality or support.
please, if there is anyone out there with some tips or workarounds to my problems, or someone from Creative who can tell me when software updates will be released to cover these issues, or someone who can point me to an existing thread which received an answer, i may even be willing to part with cash (<EM>may</EM>...!)
Many thanks

• I was prompted to download on my iPhone the new iPhone software ap. Upon doing so, my playlists came off my iPhone. They are still listed in my iTunes, but I cannot figure out how to get them from my iTunes to my IPhone. When I switch to synch by playlis.

How do I get my 300 playlists back on my IPhone after installing new IPhone software? The playlists still show in my ITunes on my computer but not in my IPhone. When I switch to synch by playlists and begin checking off the lists, the memory bar fills up. These lists are suppose to be in the ICloud and not go against my memory . I had access with my playlists to more than 18,000 somgs on my IPhone until this new Apple IPhone software update came alg. What do I do?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

• How to delete Zen Vision:M empty playlis

I've run into this problem twice now in the less than one week I've owned my Zen Vision:M. I create a playlist either through Winamp 5.2's Portable Media Player plugin (which is simple, but is OK for managing music) or through the Creative MediaSource software. In the second case, I imported an existing playlist, then created a new playist on my ZVM, then copied the songs from the old playlist to the new playlist. That is the process that I read about someone else using in these forums.
Problems:
() Songs appear to be duplicated in the process and it takes forever for the playlist to be finalized. That's been mentioned enough in these forums and isn't the issue at hand.
(2) Multiple playlists with the same name appear on the ZVM with all (or nearly all) of them empty. To be honest, I don't know if they are all empty because it appears to have made one playlist per song in copied over and I don't have the patience to look through all 40 of them. Only one playlist with this name appears when viewing via Creative MediaSource or any other software I've tried.
(3) I deleted the playlist via Creative MediaSource, hoping to clean up the problem. The result was that the single valid playlist disappeared, but the empty ones remained and are only visible on the ZVM itself. I've tried deleting them one by one on the ZVM, but when I leave the playlists, then re-enter the menu they are all magically there again.
The first time I solved this by returning my player to the store and getting a replacement, but this appears to be an "undocumented feature". Anyone familiar with this or know how I can clean out the invalid playlists? Thanks!

Well, I contacted Creative's support staff today. Summary: there is nothing to do except reformat my ZVM and start over from scratch. Not exactly a solution, but that's the state of things as of today. If anyone else runs into this problem, please contact Creative so as to give them incenti've to fix this bug as soon as possible. Of course, I could also state the obvious that the best solution is to support standard playlist functions or importing of standard playlists. THAT would make LOTS of people happy!
That's all folks.
[EDIT] I found a fix that didn't involve formatting the dri've. Support sent me a link (http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4794) to walk me through the formatting process and I decided to try "Clean up" first. It messed with a couple of my settings, but cleaned off the nasty empty playlists and meant I didn't have to transfer all my music again. Whew!Message Edited by digiman on 07-06-2006 09:27 AM

• Creative MediaSource Playlist to Winamp Playl

Hello, I'm just wondering if it is possible to take a Creative MediaSource Organizer playlist and turn it into a playlist that can be used in Winamp. I don't really like using anything other than Winamp to play music, and I don't feel like recreating all of my playlists (I have a LOT of them) into playlists that can be read by Winamp. Thanks for the help and answers :-).

, I would suggest using the Zen Media Explorer for your device to make & edit playlists. It is on the install disc. MediaSource is not that good. Of all the Creative software the Zen Media Explorer for each player is one I do use often for this reason.

• MTP Device users that are experiencing Duplicated tracks after transfering playli

<FONT face=Helv color=#002f80 size=>
All MTP device users,
One of our technical support advisors just left here after discussing a duplicated tracks issue that he has been presented to him on the Zen Vision:M. This has also been discussed here in the forums. We were able to re-create the issue and developed a workaround that should resolve this. I don't always get to interact / develop solutions like this, so I thought you all might be interested before it is available in our knowledgebase.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING:
MediaSource gives a user multiple methods of transfering content to your portable device.
<OL dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Transfer through Sync Manager (Good for initial transfer or subsequent updates)</LI>
Transfer as part of a Playlist (User creates a playlist and any file not on the player in a structured manner are transfered)</LI>
Direct Transfer (User selects a track in the library and transfers to a folder on the player / device, more control for those that like it)</LI>
The duplicate tracks are being created when a Direct Transfer is used on the initial loading of the device. With this, MediaSource transfers the files directly from the Music Library to whichever folder is selected on the device at the time of the transfer. If the 'Music' folder is selected, then all tracks will be copied directly to the 'Music' folder with no subfolders or structure created.
Following that, if a user creates and transfers a playlist to the portable device, MediaSource will copy the files into a subfolder structure based on Artist / Album and create a second copy of the files in this structure. Subsequent playlists will use this structure and any file within will not be duplicated.
Upon viewing the Albums or tracks on the player, the file now exists in that initial transfer location as well as in the folder structure created. Thus, Duplicated tracks.
HOW DO I FIX THIS:
If you do not have a copy of the tracks on your computer, copy them back from the initial transfer folder. Usually the root of the device or the 'Music' folder. Once safely backed up, delete the individual tracks in the folder leaving any folders already created (Formatting or deleting all from the player is also an option).
Method #.
<OL dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Select the MTP player in the left MediaSource menu</LI>
Click the 'Sync Manager' Icon.</LI>
Select PC Music Library and My Zen and set the sync direction as appropriate. Click Next.</LI>
Select the Audio checkbox. Click Next.</LI>
Select Start.</LI>
Once complete, the tracks will now be stored on the device in a folder structure under 'Music' - 'Artist' - 'Album' - 'Track.xxx' This will give all of your playlists a common / structured location to find and organize your tracks without duplicates. Follow up additions or transfers should be handled using the Sync Manager or a Smart Playlist which includes recently added tracks which can then be transfered to the player.
Method #2.
<OL dir=ltr style="MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px">
Select the PC Music Library in the left MediaSource menu.</LI>
Select All Tracks (Or those that you wish to transfer to your device).</LI>
Right Click, choose 'Add to Playlist'</LI>
Name the playlist 'Initial Transfer'</LI>
Now select 'My Playlists' / 'Initial Transfer' in the left window and your portable device in the right menu.</LI>
Click the Transfer Arrow.</LI>
Once complete, the tracks will now be stored on the device in a folder structure under 'Music' - 'Artist' - 'Album' - 'Track.xxx' This will give all of your playlists a common / structured location to find and organize your tracks without duplicates. Follow up additions or transfers should be handled using the Sync Manager or a Smart Playlist which includes recently added tracks which can then be transfered to the player.
Please feel free to post any comments here,
Daniel

slipinator,
You do realize that there are multiple moderators and I do not see every post, correct? This is a user interaction forum and if you have questions that other users cannot answer then it is advised that you contact Technical Support. I am not trying to be a jerk, just don't want to have any false impressions of what this board is here for. I try to answer what I can when I can, but I cannot get to every post.
For your question, the second one is more correct. When you transfer playlists, or use the auto sync, then the tracks are copied and organized. If you simply copy tracks in MediaSource, then it copies them directly where you tell it to.
So with your first question, if you copied tracks and playlists all at once, then you would create duplicates. The tracks would copy where you told them to (root, music, wherever) and then the playlists would copy the tracks again into an organized set of folders under Music when they transfered.
Your second question / statement is the better way to go if you don't want to use the Autosync.

• Zen Touch 40 GB: problems transferring music files and playli

Hi,
Creative Zen Touch 40 GB, one year old<
[color="#330000">PlaysForSure Firmware 2..0<
Creative MediaSource Organizer 5.0.38<
Creative?Sync Manager 5.0.9.0<
Windows XP Service Pack 2<
527?music (.wma) files on the player; 4205 MB of free space<
I'm finding it increasingly difficult to?transfer music files and playlists to my Zen Touch player now that the amount of free space on it has fallen below 5 GB. More often than not, it's necessary to put the player into Recovery mode, perform a clean-up, and then reboot and rebuild the library before Sync Manager works properly. I often need to repeat this process several times before I can transfer anything. Increasingly, too, Windows fails to detect the presence of the player when I connect it to my computer. Rebooting both the player and the computer usually fixes this issue. Transferring files by dragging and dropping in Windows Explorer is obviously much quicker than using Sync Manager, but here again I keep running into problems. It's as if the player freezes and refuses to take on-board any more files. Also, I can't find a way to transfer playlists except with Sync Manager. Are these known problems? I recalling running into similar issues with the Zen Touch 20 GB a few years ago. And could the fact that I'm doggedly using an old (998) and underpowered computer be an issue? I'm thinking of replacing the computer anyway, but is it likely that these synchronization problems would diminish or disappear altogether if I were to upgrade to something speedier? Thanks for any insights,Pete

I too have a simular problems! Managing music is the biggest problem with over 0 Gigs. Some artists songs sometimes change name titles, artists,?and etc. Win Explorer is most used by me now. Yes, I do lose sync from time to time! Especially when I open two windows on the portable zen. There are two tools that need. . Playlist management - it takes too long to do it on the player. I want to create "Gym Vibes" and had it on my old creative?Nomad player, but couldn't transfer. "Creative Sync Manager" doesn't do it!?Without all that sync stuff how can I create and edit creative's playlist on a PC?2. A method for detecting dupicates? This is my second creative portable and if I don't get the tools I won't buy another!

• Petition : View by (artist/album/etc) option for playli

the songs in my player are of two languages, so I have two playlists for songs of each language. Each of these playlists consists of thousands of songs. So selecting specific songs while playing any playlist becomes a big headache, since I cant search the playlist according to artist or album.
I would love to have the 'view by' functionality for playlists also, something that can make big playlists look like libraries.
So, if u ppl agree with me please sign!

I am talking about the player not the software.
Saving different libraries definitely comes handy if ur collection contains songs of multiple languages, and u want to organise them separately. By giving playlists the option of viewing by artist/album/genre, ur basically turning the playlists into libraries.

• Zen Sleek -WMP 11 - PC Music Library -Playli

Since December I have been unable to create/edit/delete any playlists using the PC Music Library, ?my preferred method with Creative MediaSource Organiser, on my Zen Sleek 20GB which was bought in Sept 05?& has performed wonderfully until then. In fact the PC Music Library doesn't seem to recognise the Zen Sleek even though it is connected and confirms as much. The Zen Sleek &?the PC Music Library don't seem to synchronise when new tracks are being imported.Around this time I did download Windows Media Player , at first without being aware of the compatability issues and the firmware requirements. I have corrected these and upgraded where required. I have rolled back to WMP0 but this has not changed anything and have indeed gone back to WMP because of this. The only (marginal) success with playlists is with using the Organiser's synchronisation facility but it is very inconsistent in transferring files.Any Suggestions

I have tried this forum, various people have tried to help me but they are just some other disappointed and frustrated people like you and me. • Adjusting order of songs in playli

hi ppl, i wan to noe is it possible to adjust the order of the song being played after u have put it into a playlist? for eg. i wan my current track 7 of the playlist to move up to track 2 and vice versa.... isit possible?or do i have to create a new playlist and drag my files all over again?btw, i am creating my playlist frm mediasource

You should be able to just drag and drop the tracks to re-arrange the order. For example, when viewing tracks in a playlist, just drag and drop the 6th track to the 4th position will re-arrange the track order.

• How do I edit a playli

I have a 4GB Zen V Plus. I like to put new music in a separate playlist until I get bored with it, then I move it do its "proper" place when I get new music. However, when I edit my playlist's in MediaSource, and sync my Zen, it does not make the changes on the Zen.
Sorry if that was not clear so let me spell it out. I buy a new Korn CD. I put the new songs in a playlist called "new" in MediaSource. I then sync it to my zen. A month later I am bored with the new Korn songs and I move them to my Korn playlist in MediaSource and put some other stuff in "new". The playlists are accurate in MediaSource but when I sync to the Zen, it does not make the appropriate changes.
What am I doing wrong? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I guess that it's a master object.

• Zen Microphoto Media Explorer Playli

Just recently bought a Zen Microphoto Media Explorer for my wife. I have had an old Archos Jukebox for years, and like it a lot, but its kinda bulky now. Anyway, when I want to create a playlist for the Archos, I use Musicmatch Jukebox, which gives a lot of options on how ro order the songs - things like Order by artist, by album/track, shuffle randomly, etc. The Creative Mediasource organizer doesnt seem to have these options, forcing you to drag and drop your tracks one at a time is you want anything else than the order they are on the computer - not good when you have 000 songs on your player. So I guess my question is - is there an easier way to manage playlists. Am I missing something on the Creative MediaSource product? Can I use Musicmatch or Real Player (or something else) to create my playlists and then take them across to the player - I notice the playlist I have created has a 'zpl' suffix while MusicMatch is 'M3u'. Is there a plugin that would help? Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

• Zen Micro File Copy & Playli

New user:
I have a Zen Micro firmware .02.05
I am finding the MediaSource very clumsy. It takes too long to update the MP3 tags and changes must be made one field at a time.
Is there an easier way to edit the tags once they have been imported?
Is there a way to create and or edit playlists outside of MediaSource?
Can drag and drop from Windows Explorer to the Micro be enabled?
I tried installing the updated drivers, my PC refused to connect to the device. I had to uninstall/install the entire package. Needless to say I am hesitant to install the firmware update.
Any advice/help appreciated.

You can right click Properties to edit the tag in MediaSource.

• Changing the order of playli

I am using Creative Mediasource Organizer and a Zen Micro. I can drag songs into a playlist and everything will work fine, apart from Mediasource won't let me move songs around into a different order. All the instructions that I can find on the subject say I should be able to do this. Is there a setting or something that I can do to change this?

Are you refering to playlist in MediaSources PC Music Library or playlist in your MP3 player? Can't you simply use drag and drop to re-arrange the order of the tracks in the playlist?
Have you:
- Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Player/Organizer 3.30.2 from your product download site.
- (Depending on your product and firmware) For non-PlaysForSure Zen series: Download and install the latest Creative Zen and NOMAD Jukebox plugin 2.00.9 for Creative MediaSource from your product download site.or:For PlaysForSure Zen Micro: Download and install the latest Creative MediaSource Plugin for PlaysForSure devices (version .00.8) from your product download site.

• Problems with my playli

I have a 40 gig nomad jukebox zen xtra and I'm having troubles setting up playlists. I had about 25 playlists and somehow they were wiped off my player. Ever since then, when I try to make new ones or edit ones that I made on my player through the Creative Mediasource, I get the connection error stating that my player is not connected. I've installed all the drivers and such but still run into the same problem. Would it be best to just start all over and reformat my player and just reenter all the music back on there?

sneed78,
Reformat might be an option but before that have you try running Cleanup option in Rescue mode? Perhaps that could help.
