Pro res takes soooo long. Client going to shoot me

Help!
I shot in HDV (looks fab) fed into ye olde mac as Pro Res (looks fab). Sat down with client, made edits, titles, transitions, etc. (looks fab). Then the timeline turns red and every buggering thing takes twenty-five years to render!
Client mad and me sad.
All clips and source material on desktop.
Anyone know of any work-arounds that don't involve buying a new computer, obtaining an advanced degree in computer engineering or committing suicide?
And I know, I know... if I think Pro Res is slow I should try editing in native HDV for pure **** on toast.
Thanks

Wrong. Thats the worst place to store your media and is the number one bottleneck for poor performance ... especially so when dealing with high datarate formats. Ye olde throw money at it solution? Of course, who are we kidding here, there are no free lunches. If you want to work with ProRes then you've got to stop using your system drive as a media drive. Get the biggest baddest fastest storage array you can ... or at the very least get one additional fast internal drive as a dedicated media drive. If external is an option then try to go with eSATA, and if thats not an option then FW800. As noted, a RAID setup is best (multiple drives striped together). Both you and your client will be happy again.

Why does my iphone 4 take soooo long to stream a video???  I will have an iphone 3GS next to it, and we will play a youtube video at the same time, and the 3GS goes significantly faster.  Any advice??

Bad cable? Bad USB port? Something corrupt in the album itself?
We need more info as to what your configuration is and what you've tried.

  • Attachments take soooo long to download?

    Hi,
I have a decent adsl line (2mb), but the attachments to mails take so long to download, loads slower than normal - is there anything I can do.
eg an attachment of 2MB takes like 15-20 mins..????
I noticed this on my mac mini, then on my intel imac
    any ideas?

Since the problem occurred with two different machines it is probably not a disk space issue, although if your mail files are already very big that could be a problem. Report what Get Info gives you on the folder ~/Library/Mail. Also, try downloading a large file without going through mail and time it - your line may not be giving you what you think, or your ISP may have too many customers on the one link. You can try this one if you like, it is 155MB, so on your 2Mb line it should take about 15mins.

  • Why do movies rented from iTunes take soooo long to download to my Mac?

Why do movies rented from iTunes take sooo long to download to my Mac?

I am noticing the same thing. It appears to be since the recent update, but I have never had a delay before.

  • Why does it take soooo long for my mac to boot?

I have an Early 2011 15 in macbook pro with the 2.2 i7, and the hi-res screen, and I upgraded my memory to 8gb about a year ago.
Recently if I restart/cold boot my computer it takes over 6 minutes for me to see the login screen.  But I can sign in normally and it runs just fine.
It started happening after I restarted from playing a game in boot camp.  But I can boot into windows in the same time I normally could before.
I tried resetting the PRAM, the hardware test, booted into safe mode, checked my hard drive with disk utility, did a virus scan, and it all says Im good.
    Anyone have any other suggestions???
    Thanks!

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
For example, if the problem is a slow startup taking three minutes, post the messages timestamped within three minutes after the boot time, not before. Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the beginning of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Mac Pro suddenly takes very long to boot and won't shut down... just spins

My Mac started taking very long to boot up... maybe 10 minutes before the icon bar becomes available.
Also, it won't shut down... it just spins. I've waited 30 minutes with no results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    CBuss,
The long boot cycle points to preference corruption. And not the kind that can be corrected with re-boots etc., Check Hard Drive>Library>Preferences to see if the listings make "visual" sense. If there are a lot of letters with circles over them and numbers interspersed, you are skating out on thin ice.
Back up everything now, then do a clean install of your current OS. Do not to an "archive". That will probably archive the corruption as well. Go up to Snow Leopard if you can. Add your data back manually as well. If you keep going with these lingering start ups, you will shortly get the "?" at startup instead of the Apple/ Chime and the long, expensive, recovery (by somebody else) will begin.
As for the 'shut down" issue.. I am still in the dark. Something is still "running" and canceling the shut down cycle.
    Cheers
    Toby

  • I jailbroke my iphone 3gs but then removed all the data on it how come this takes soooo long?

IT IS TAKING AGES TO REMOVE ALL DATA :(

You jailbroke it,you figure it out!!!!!!!!
Jailbreaking voids any warranty or any help from any one here.
    Good Luck!!!

  • Why Does Robohelp 8 take soooo long to do anything?

I just downloaded and installed Robohelp 8 the other day, and I know it is a large application (the download was about 660 MG), but it is so slow that it is currently unworkable on my PC. It took five minutes for the application to open my legacy .xpj file (from 5.0), and after doing so, I highlighted a page in my project file for editing, and it took about 25-30 seconds for the page to appear after highlighting it in the project manager. This isn't anywhere close to what I would consider to be acceptable performance.
I should note that my PC is running a 8222 SE processor, 3.01 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM, and has 40 GB of storage. I am currently trying to get my memory upgraded to 4 GB. Can you provide any other recommendations on this?
Also, when I had a response problem with RH for HTML 5.0 (took 10 minutes for my project file to open), I cut the .cpd file out and then went back to open the .xpj file, which rebuilt the .cpd (and the performance was better). However, I removed the .cpd from another help file, and this did not work; the .cpd file did not rebuild itself, and every link in my project was broken (fortunately, I had a backup project). Both .xpj files were about 4.00 KB. Do you have any idea why rebuilding the .cpd would work in one RH 5.0 help project, but not another?
Please let me know about these issues. Thanks.

That does help - thanks a lot.

  • Pro Res 422 (Proxy) in Adobe Premiere

Guys, I've been having the most monumental problems today and in order to have a back up in case the doo doo hits the blades can the following be done?
I've got 12 Sequences which have been edited in a mix of Pro Res 422 (Proxy) and Pro Res 422.
    The original files are AVCHD.
I'm unable to either access Media Manager or Batch Capture as FCP 7 just crashes.
If I was to give the Pro Res Sequences to my client can he then convert them to a suitable format on Adobe Premiere?
I really am at my wits end
EDIT: OK. I've just read that Pro Res cannot be imported into Premiere
So, lads, what can I do to give a final format to my client so that he can then author a DVD?
Message was edited by: Alpesh Gor

WHo says Premiere doesn't import ProRes? It has since CS3.
And why not try to solve your problem? Trash your prefs?
#44: FCP acting weird - Trash Prefs
Shane's Stock Answer #44: FCP acting weird or unusual. Just not like is normally should
If the program was working fine, and now isn't, or just isn't working the way it should, the first things to do are:
    1) Trash your FCP preferences. Download the Preference Manager from Digital Rebellion: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/trashing_fcpprefs.html
    2) Open the Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.
    3) Shut down for 10 min. Go for a quick walk around the block and get SOME exercise today. Come back, turn on the computer and see how things are.
    4) (optional) Do the Hokey Pokey and turn your self about. Results may vary.

  • Pro Res LT & Canon 60D

Many have posted that you should use Compressor or MPEG Streamclip to convert CAnon 60D 1920x1080/24 to Apple Pro Res LT. My client is a local TV station and they currently air their programming in HDV 1080i. Which program converts with higher quality, MPEG Streamclip or Compressor and once in edit in FCP with Pro Res LT am I not using a much lower quality image? And when I play out to HDV won't that be a quality less than HDV? I'm trying to get a gist of the procedure for editing Pro Res and then delivering to a client. I may have the option of providing them each 30 minute show as a Quicktime File, but would I give them Quicktime Files as Pro Res LT or another higher codec? All new to me since I now use a Canon 60D. Thanks

Which program converts with higher quality, MPEG Streamclip or Compressor...
Both use the installed QuickTime frameworks. The quality will be identical.
..and once in edit in FCP with Pro Res LT am I not using a much lower quality image?
No. You will not see a difference. LT is absolutely fine for the images you aquired.
I'm trying to get a gist of the procedure for editing Pro Res and then delivering to a client.
Only the client / broadcaster can tell you that. Ask them for a copy of their delivery specifications.
While there are general guidlines, they usually specify permitted signal levels etc. But there will be a huge difference in what formats you can deliver to a local PBS compared with a national network.

  • Why does my iphone take so long to turn back on when the battery runs out?

Ok, granted, I am guilty of not always plugging my iphone in when it gives me the low battery warning. But why does it take SOOOO long to get enough charge to turn back on? If apple is taking suggestions, then my suggestion is that you should just be able to plug it in and it should be ready to use within a minute, like other cell phones. I've had my battery die mid phone call, and then had to wait for it to get enough charge to call back. I know its maybe only about 5-7 minutes but that seems like forever to return a dropped call. Does this happen to anyone else or is something wrong with my phone? Any suggestions?

Apple set the default to 10 minutes before you can use the iPhone. After 2 minutes you'll get an image of the low battery. It's in the iPhone Users Guide, page 49.

I hope this helps some.  I did not notice any new buttons appearing but there are a number of IT's now listed in the results.
If you do post a change request.  Here are some other bugs and anoyances that I would like to see addressed:
    Other problems with smart forms
    1. Global Definitions - Initialization section
       - no clean way to add and remove parameters.  Gaps seem to cause no problems.  Some add/remove buttons like on the Global Data section would be nice.
    2. Print preview problems
      - bug with color graphics:  See my Thread: smartform preview dump when color graphics in form - crash on page down if color graphics in form.
      - Loop texts do not line up vertically in the preview - looks ragged on left.  Printing seeems fine though.
    3. Double click on compile errors does nothing - even worse it sometimes puts line breaks in odd places in your initialization code.
    4. Cannot copy windows from one smartform to another
    Best regards,
    Olivier

  • Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS

My Macbook Pro takes a long time (41 secs) from start to reach log-in - It used to be almost instantaneous, I'm running Lion OS. I thought this might be because I'd used a lot of disk space but I've now reduced that - I'm only using 40 of the 320 gb available. I have no games and I've unchecked the "re-open windows" option on shutdown. The rest of the preformance (once in) remains good.

41 seconds is actually a little faster then normal. Boot from completely off is normally around 45-50 seconds.
Your computer never ever came on almost instantaneously from completely off. You are confusing waking up from sleep mode and booting the computer from completely off.
