Problem connecting to IFS

Hi I was trying to get the following sample program to work using JDK1.1.8
import oracle.ifs.beans.*;
import oracle.ifs.common.*;
import java.util.Locale;
public class ConnectionTester extends Object
public static LibrarySession testConnection()
throws IfsException
LibraryService service = new LibraryService();
CleartextCredential me = new CleartextCredential("system","manager");
ConnectOptions connect = new ConnectOptions();
connect.setLocale(Locale.getDefault());
connect.setServiceName("IfsDefault");
connect.setServicePassword("manager");
return service.connect(me,connect);
public static void main(String[] args)
try {
LibrarySession ifs = testConnection();
System.out.println("successfully connected to the database");
ifs.disconnect();
catch (IfsException e)
IfsException.setVerboseMessage(true);
e.printStackTrace();
I'm running it on the following
SunOS edtcprdsun18 5.7 Generic_106541-10 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250
IFS is installed on the same Box as is Oracle
8.1.6
The following is my CLASSPATH

  • Problem in the iFS map drive...!

    Thanks for your concern:
    As you know, in window explorer,iFS map drive is very convenient facility.According to install procedure in some documents, i installed these on client-pc and rebooted. But there was no notification for which machine is iFS server when i mapped iFS server to map-drive in local.In set&admin guide,there might be some notification beside machine name in map-network drive diallog box as like "iFS server".
    what's wrong?. but,in program group of start menu,iFS utilities are generated correctly.
    Only in mapping iFS drive,these problems are occured.
    I wonder:
    1.When iFS server is started with ifsstart command, Are there any droped,but essential,agent or protocol by my mistake?

    Hi,
    Make sure you have $ORACLE_HOME/ifs/settings in your classpath.
    Good luck.

  • Remote Connection to IFS

    I am currently trying to find a way to connect to IFS remotely and obtain a LibrarySession.
    So far I have a 9i client installed and I have a file called service.properties (altered copy of IfsDefault.properties) in an identical file structure to that of the IFS server ('D:\oracle\ora90\9ifs\settings\oracle\ifs\server\properties').
    I have altered the service.properties to include the following lines.
    IFS.SERVICE.JDBC.Schema=myschema
    IFS.SERVICE.JDBC.User=myuser
    IFS.SERVICE.JDBC.CredentialManagerIfsSchema=myCredentialManager
    IFS.SERVICE.JDBC.DatabaseUrl=jdbc:oracle:oci8:@myDbUrl
    My problem is when I try to run the follwing code to connect to the LibraryService.
    public LibraryService startService()
    String serviceName = getServiceName();
    String schemaPassword = getSchemaPassword();
    LibraryService service = null;
    try
    service = LibraryService.findService(serviceName);
    catch (Throwable e)
    e.printStackTrace();
    return service;
    All this returns is:
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-20100: Unable to find service (IfsDefault)
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-20120: Invalid service name (serviceName)
         at oracle.ifs.server.S_LibraryService.findService(S_LibraryService.java:1328)
    Can anybody help, as the documentation is a little light on this topic.
    Its gotta be worth it for a beer right?

    First off, what does your getServiceName() method return? It looks like it's returning "IfsDefault" which is bad, since your service configuration file is called "service.properties". (Meaning, the service name would be "service".)
    Secondly, when you start up a new application (in a standalone JVM), you're not going to have any running LibraryService instances. So of course, LibraryService.findService is not going to find your service. So here's how you can obtain a connected LibrarySession to a 9iFS LibraryService:
    public LibrarySession getLibrarySession( String username,
    String password,
    String service,
    String schemaPassword )
    throws IfsException
    CleartextCredential cc =
    new CleartextCredential(username, password);
    ConnectOptions co = new ConnectOptions();
    if( LibraryService.isServiceStarted(service) )
    return LibraryService.findService(service).connect(cc, co);
    else
    return LibraryService.startService(
    service, schemaPassword ).connect(cc, co);
    }

  • Connection to iFS from a remote station & .properties file syntax

    Hello,
    I want to make a java application (running on a simple NT workstation) that is able to connect onto the iFS-1.1.9 server (running on a different unix server).
    So I copied all the necessary jar and zip files from the iFS server, installed JDK1.1.8 (would it work with JDK 1.3 since I have iFS-1.1.9 ?), put all necessary jar/zip files in the classpath and I was able to compile the sample program given in the iFS dev guide.
    I know that I also need a "service.properties" file that is in oracle.ifs.server.properties directory in my CLASSPATH, that point is ok.
    The fact is that I don't have a clue about the exact syntax of that file. I only have as an example the standard servers.properties file on my iFS server itself, but the "DatabaseUrl" attribute is probably not the same because in my case the service is running on a remote machine...
    As a result, when I launch my java app on my workstation it says :
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10620: Unable to construct connection pool
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10633: Unable to create library connection
    oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-10600: Unable to construct library connection
    So is there anything I am missing ? Where can I find the definition and syntax of all attributes in the .properties file ?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Regards,
    Arnaud.

    <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica">quote:</font><HR>Thanks to your advises, here is the simple properties file I created (only 3 lines) :

    <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>
    OK, so there are two problems. First of all, I should have explained better. You absolutely need ALL of the other properties in the new service properties file you have created. What I should have said in the last post was that the above three properties are the only ones you need to CHANGE. What you should do is copy IfsDefault.properties from the iFS installation ($OH/ifs1.1/settings/oracle/ifs/server/properties) to your NT machine, and then EDIT those three properties as you have specified above. And make sure to put it in the CLASSPATH correctly, under the same directory hierarchy.
    The second problem is your JDBC database URL. The format for the OCI8 connect string using a TNS alias is as follows:
    jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<tns_alias>
    where <tns_alias> is a name you create with the Oracle Net8 Assistant (it should be on your NT machine under your Start menu: Oracle-<your_oracle_home>/Network Administration).
    You should read the Net8 Administration Guide for more information about TNS aliases and how to use "thick" (OCI8) JDBC.

  • I'm trying to set up my Ipod, but when I go to sign in with an apple ID it says 'Could not sign in: there was a problem connecting to the server'.

    I just bought a 3rd generation ipod touch. It was professionally refurbished. I'm trying to set it up, and everything seems to be working fine, until we get to the wifi. I live on campus and our wifi is username and password protected. I signed in and everything seemed to work fine, and in the top left hand corner I have all the bars for wifi. However, when I go to sign in with an apple ID it says 'Could no sign in: there was a problem connecting to the server'. I've tried turning it on and off again, tried signing on to our wifi again, but it all isn't working. What can I do?

    I also encountered the same problem. Try using a different email address or try signing in later.

  • Problems connecting multiple macs to an Airport Extreme network.

    I think this problem is similar to a previous post, but is individual in some ways.
    I have 2 Airport Extreme basestations covering a large flat connected by Ethernet extending a single network. I did try to extend the network wirelessly, but this was plagued with problems where the network would work for 10 mins, then drop out as I think the basestations are slightly too far apart.
    Connected to the network are a number of machines:
    Wirelessly we have 3x iPhones, 1x G4 Cube, 1x iMac (current model), 2x MacBook Pro (previous model) & 1x PC.
    Wired via a hub is an Apple TV, PS3, Nintendo Wii, Denon Home Cinema Amp, PS2
    For aprox 6 months I have had major problems connecting all the wireless machines at the same time. I have played around with the security as per previous posts with varying degrees of success.
    I seem to have the most problems with the iMac. The iMac will not join the network when there is any form of wireless security. Every time I try to set up a password it hangs when trying to join and I finally get the "There was a error joining xxxx network".
    After more playing around I managed to get all the machines working by having no security on the network and locking the network down by MAC addresses.
    Since last Thursday I now have a new problem. The iMac joins and stays on the network perfectly, but the second my second MacBook Pro is switched on and joins the network, the internet connection on the iMac drops out. In addition, as we use the iMac as a media server, all other machines connected to the iMac for either file sharing or iTunes sharing then get the error "the remote machine is failing to respond. Please check firewall settings if there are any". What is strange is that the iMac remains on the network, full signal, independent IP address and the second the MacBook Pro is switched off, works perfectly again.
    I have tried wiping both the iMac & the MacBook Pro and re-installing their operating systems, but this only solves the problem for aprox 24 hours then all of a sudden the issue re-appears.
    Can anyone out there help?

    Let's double-check the AirPort Express Base Station's (AX) settings ...
    Perform a "factory default" reset of the AX
    o (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044)
    Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, check the following settings:
    AirPort > Base Station
    o Base Station Name: <rename or leave default>
    o Base Station Password: <enter desired password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter desired password>
    o Remember this password in my keychain: (optional)
    o Set time automatically: (unchecked)
    AirPort > Wireless
    o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing AEBSn's wireless network>
    o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
    o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
    o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
    o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
    o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
    o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • TS3048 My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

    My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

    I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
    That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

  • Problem connecting MacBook to a Sharp video projector

    One of the great things I like about Macs is the easy way they (usually) connect to a video projector. Unlike a lot of my friends who run PCs with Windows I never had any problems whatsoever connecting my MacBook to a projector at the university and start my presentations.
    Until today that is.
    I tried to connect my MacBook with Apple's mini-DVI to VGA adapter to a Sharp ("Notevision") video projector and although the MacBook had the projector (even with its correct name "PG-M20X" and available resolution settings) listed under "Displays" immediately, I couldn't get the projector to show any more than "no signal" whatever input source I chose...
    What did I do wrong? Or is it the projector that is somehow "incompatible"?! Please help!

    Maybe this could help as well:
    After we tried several things with the MacBook (reboot, "detect displays" etc.), we successfully connected a Powerbook (15", FireWire 800, late 2003) to the projector, using Apple's DVI-VGA Adapter.
    So that did work out fine, but the MacBook didn't work on the projector. The cable that came with the projector was a VGA--DVI-A cable: there were only a few pins on the DVI-end of it going into the DVI-Connector on the projector. Could it have something to do with that? But why didn't the Powerbook have any problems connecting to the projector then?

    You really have to mess with the resoluton, espescially the refresh rate, as it varies from projector to projector, monitor to monitor. Even within the same brand! Because so many manufacturers are trying so many different things to become the next cool kid on the block, and the way the formats are being configured that's now part of the game.
    That's why so many professionally produced corporate shows hire a dedicated projectionist for the video presentations. Too many bugs in the honey.
    Refresh & sesolution are the first things to look at.
    Just so you know that colors in PowerPoint PC, and PowerPoint Mac, don't exactly match... go figure.
    I forgot to mention another thing, sometimes it's the projector that needs to be tweaked.

    Can you drag windows to the other display?
    In the "Arrangement" tab of "Displays" system preference, you can drag the display pictures to match the actual arrangement, drag the menu bar to the other display, or enable mirroring.
