Reporting on Malicious 419 scammers

Hi Skype,
Firstly let me say I'm seriously dissapointed in your support services. I used to be able to just email a problem and someone would get back to me very promtly. Now, for whatever reason one has to jump through hoops to find an actual person. With nothing in your forums, I took to sending you a private facebook message which has not been responded to for over a week, in addition the form I found to email you directly keeps breaking. That's seriously lacking guys.
Anyway... below is the security concern. You really should have systems in place to report this kind of thing. I would have expected so much more from you... especially since I have been a paying customer for many years.
All I ask is please get back to me with assurance you are going to block this profile.

Thanks for replying. I didn't realize it was so bad as this is my first one.  I'm fully aware of 419 scams, but I do use for Skype for work purposes and am sometimes contacted by strangers so unfortunately I do need to initially engage a little.
I have checked again and I don't see any place within the skype app to report a user. I can block them, but not report them.
I still feel that skype should at a minimum do these 2 things:
1) List and warn users of 419 scams under the security FAQ/Support areas. (Not just phishing)
2) Allow an online area, or within the app to report users so MS/Skype can disable the account permanately.

  • How to report a malicious site to Firefox so that it is registered as such?

On the Security tab of the Options dialog box, you can select to have Firefox block any reported attack sites. I have a software program that keeps alerting me that perhaps an advertiser is sending malicious software my way, and I was hoping to report this to Firefox, but I don't know where to go to report the site. I didn't see anything that addressed this, so can someone fill me in? Thanks!

  • Skype Is A Delicious Tool to Execute A Conspiracy ...

If any organization or a person wants to commit a conspiracy against any person or group of persons, it can be a delicious tool to exploit and commit conspiracy against that person or group of person. How? I am giving one person's case study, where he has become the victim (evidences are there as supporting evidences to submit to IC3 (www.ic3.gov), for a data research purpose and monitoring purpose over Skype.
    Case Study First View:
A>   The scammers have posted few lucrative fake text advertisements in another social networking tool (I do not want to mention here that brand name, confidentiality purpose) for phishing that victim, and obviously he was victimized by this A-One phishing process, as victim is an innocent general person and regularly uses Skype as a serious professional (like other Tom, Dike and Harry) and that social networking tool. He is not like me, a Novel Adventurer-Asshhhhh
B>    The scammers in each case posted their Skype IDs, as Skype does not do any background checking (though it is a social network for professionals), and the scammers do not bother to share their personal details at Skype. Where phone number is needed, there mentioned some phone  number of a particular country(I do not want to mention that country name for supporting IC3) where that number can receive call and SMS, but that is a fake phone number, as no any service provider there who has provided that phone number(already investigated) to that scammer.
C> Established relation with the victim(that unfortunate person),exploited time and money of         that victim, once that adventure over gone out and deleted the scamming profile. So no proof is there in that conversation room except from the transcript stored at Skype Server. Because Skype on regular basis commits content washing. But , fortunately that person has described his story to me and I am a Novel Adventurer so did not hesitate to post it here and about to report to IC3,there write up must be a serious one with all sort of proofs, as financial crime is an offensive and punishable crime and no one has the right of use Skype as a delicious food of committing conspiracy, what you say?-Ummmmmmmmmm!!

[2:58:18 PM] Vil Jit: Where have you traveled?
As you see, I play with a few trick questions to check veracity.
My atlas shows no Porto Novo, South Africa, altho Dahomey and India have one.
I further doubt she(?) has ever seen South Africa; that English is her native language; that the pic is her; that she is F or 29; and that she only wants to get to know each others.
Also, lately (this week) my Skype toolbar icon frequently lights orange with

  • Edev configuring keyboard as mouse

    Hello,
I'm having some trouble with edev. For some strange reason edev/xorg seems to be configuring my keyboard as a keyboard then as a mouse, forcing x & y axis and the rest. Also my power button as a keyboard it seems. Not sure how to stop this.
My mouse also seems to be configuring multiple times. I'm using the razercfg tool to config that.
    Can anyone help?

I'm currently using pointerkeys when I don't have a USB mouse with me because my touchpad seems electronically dead.
I didn't want to merge the pointerkeys settings with the keyboard layout configuration so I created the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-pointerkeys.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "PointerKeys"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbOptions" "keypad:pointerkeys"
    EndSection
Pointerkeys are disabled by default at boot time, but you can simply enable them by pressing Shift+NumLock ( I think it's customizable).
When the pointerkeys are enabled your numpad works as a three buttons mouse. Don't expect it to change the numlock setting, when you press Shift+Numlock the NumLock led stays exactly the same.
1,2,3,4,6,7,8,9 are used to move the cursor around
5 is used to trigger a single click, or a double click if you're quick enough
pressing 0 is like clicking and holding the button down, so you can use it for drag'n'drop. press 5 to release
slash, asterisk and minus select which button are you going to click with 5.
    / selects the left button
    * the middle button
    - the right button
The movements acceleration and so on can be customized, but I never tried.
Pointerkeys are not very comfortable, but they're really helpful for emergencies as most GUI applications are not really keyboard-friendly.

  • Creative cloud wants to make changes

I get an annoying popup that tells me "Creative Cloud wants to make changes" and asks for my CC password. But when I enter the password it won't accept it. But if I press CANCEL, the popup returns in five seconds. I know the password is correct because I can log into CC and also my adobe account.
I thought maybe it was a virus, but if so, it has infected both my work and home Macs. The only way to rid myself of this popup (which sits on top of everything) is to quit creative cloud. I have asked Adobe for help but they've shrugged their shoulders.
    Anyone else had this issue?

catker, you might be right about the latest InDesign update. My Mac's /Library/Logs/Adobe/Installers/Adobe InDesign 9.2.1 log file tells me that I Installed the InDesign update on 3/25/14, which is around the time I started seeing Creative Cloud requesting my password everytime I booted up. I've recently opened the Mac's Console utility and watched it as I enter the password when Creative Cloud asks for it. What I see is this:

As you can see, there are lots of crashes of a process called ExManEscalatedPrivilegeServer, whose crash reports tell me that its parent process is Creative Cloud Helper:
    Process:         ExManEscalatedPrivilegeServer [786]
    Path:            /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Creative Cloud/*/ExManEscalatedPrivilegeServer
    Identifier:      ExManEscalatedPrivilegeServer
    Version:         7.1.2.17 (7.1.2.17)
    Code Type:       X86-64 (Native)
Parent Process:  Creative Cloud Helper [406]
and also lots of repeated references to Adobe Extension Manager .mxi files in the folder /Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version 9.0/en_US/Extensions/REMOVED_CC/, which I'm guessing are components of InDesign replaced by the latest InDesign CC updater.
I don't really know what any of this means, other than I see it happening every time I've opened Console after I've booted up and Creative Cloud requests my password, and repeated references to ExManEscalatedPrivilegeServer and old pieces of InDesign tucked away in the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/InDesign/Version 9.0/en_US/Extensions/REMOVED_CC/ folder.

  • LUX APPLE ITUNES STORE-EUR

URGENT - I can read on my bank statement:
    LUX APPLE ITUNES STORE-EUR
with debits everyday where as i never used Itunes!!!

Yes, and those thousands and thousands of users all need to report fraud to their bank or credit card company.  The company then works with the retailer about the issue, as long as you don't wait too long and your chances of getting the charges canceled decrease.
Since you have obviouly used a web search to find out something about this, have you actually read any of the posts?  Read this and you will see that people work firsthand through their credit card companies about the fraud.  In a few cases they contacted  iTunes Customer Service but they are not the ones to deal with it, though they have in a few cases at their option.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/17247342
If you don't report the fraud the scammers will get away with it because as far as Apple can tell it is legitimate purchases using a valid card.
By the way, the only people reading this are other users like you, not Apple.  There's already a "My iTunes account has been hacked" topic with a thousand posts over the past couple of years so please don't start another one.

  • Xfce4.10 doesnt start since update

    Hi guys,
I've upgraded xfce today from 4.8 to 4.10. But now I have got the problem, that it won't start if i am logging in via slim...
I tried to downgrade the linux kernel from 3.3.4-1 to 3.3.3-1 but this didn't worked. Is there a way to downgrade the whole xfce4?

  • Lingo P-code definition

There are now a number of reports of malicious code targetting Lingo scripts. To detect this I want to parse the p-code and validate commands which are known to have issues. I have done this for ActionScript where the p-code is readily available in the manual, however I cannot find a similar definition for Lingo Script.
I am aware that there are patches for some if not all of the detected vulnerabilities (for example CVE-2010-3653) but I need to be able to protect un-patched systems as well.

The vulnerability that I am currently looking at is CVE-2010-3653, which although a bit dated seems to be currently in use. Other possibly related reports are CVE-2010-4186, CVE-2010-4187, CVE-2010-4188, and CVE-2010-4190. You can look at other reports using:
    http://web.nvd.nist.gov/view/vuln/search?execution=e2s1
This is a search window and I entered 'adobe director' which will give you a list of CVE numbers and brief summaries. Then search on the complete CVE number in any search engine and you should find fuller descriptions.
Note that the numbers quoted above may not be related directly to Lingo, as I have yet to identify all the blocks within a Dir file
Unfortunately security by obscurity is not a good policy, The 'bad guys' simply have to fuzz a file until it gives them something useful, where the 'good guys' have to understand the whole format to offer protection.
Thanks for your reply, it looks like it is trial and error then :-(

  • Trend micro rubotted reports malicious dns query when accessing and reading release note page for 3.6.7 update

Trend Micro RUBotted.exe reports the above. The recommended scan, Trend Micro House Call, completes in 2:40 minutes and does not find a bot on my system. I have done the above action twice, (reading and opening release note fixes) and both times the same identical warnings appeared. My system appears to be clean. However, the RUBotted.exe program is designed to flag bot-like behavior, and I think this finding is correct, and not a false-positive.
This only happens when this page is opened, and I therefore think there is an embedded link that cannot be seen, and is run when this page is opened.
I did update to version 3.6.7, but scanned the system before and after I updated to 3.6.7. Results are identical.
    == This happened ==
    Just once or twice
== I was looking at the latest fixes for Firefox 3.6.7

Trend Micro has a record of "false positives". Report the problem to them and let them investigate. Please post your results back in this thread for information for other users.

  • Any way to report scammers?

So my dad just got a call from a skype number that has been reported by others as being a scammer/hacker. Yet skype has no way to report these numbers? I think that would be a great feature considering that most people wouldnt know whats going on...
google voice has a post about it, yet Skype has been around longer and has nothing that I could find.

  • Where can I report malicious apps?

I just downloaded an app saying it is for gtalk. Actually it is for stealing your google password. After logging in, I got notified someone tried to log in to my google account from the US.
I was stupid, but could we avoid others do the same mistake? Where could I report the app?

I don't have a problem with the reminders app.  It's just not that effective.
If I have 5 reminders for today - at, say, 2:00 pm - and it beeps, it doesn't do two things:
    It doesn't persistantly beep.
It doesn't let me re-schedule the reminder.
That's pretty lame.  So, I swipe my finger to open the iPod, and all the reminders disappear.  I have to open the reminders app, and manually re-schedule each reminder to remind me later.  They're not even highlighted.  Only one or two might be red.
Do you know where I can read my reminders on my PC?  I do back-ups with iTunes.  Where do my reminders go? Can I print them to a text file?

  • Help my safari doesnt open and gives me a crash report

help my safari doesn't open and gives me a crash report ever since i downloaded a file from the internet. I have a macbook air (early 2014) with running os x yosemite version 10.10.1

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • GT70 2PC – Software testing and performance report.

It is so excited here again. Currently, my first/only object after work is playing Titanfall.
I intended to share another performance testing today. But I didn’t. I found there are too many great open box posts on different forums. Therefore, I decide to dig the MSI software compatibility and do a touring. What can I say? I’m Mr.Curiosity who really desires to know every built-in application in system. That is why I share this article with you, my friends. I would like to discuss with everybody who is interested in MSI software. Of course, I have some performance reports for you, too. Please also remind me if you find any typo/wrong in this post. Thanks in advance.
    1. MSI Boot Configure
This is the first software which pops up immediately. It is thoughtful design because we can choose enter the [Windows 8.1 metro] or [desktop] by ourselves now. I give it two thumbs up!!!
Select your favorite boot configuration and press [OK]. If we want it work immdiately, we can logout the system and re-login again.
    2.   MSI Remind Manager
Honestly, I didn’t know what it is in the beginning. The cute robot shows every time when I login the system. I found this is a reminder for product registration. Good, I would like to have best MSI support and warranty for my lovely GT70 2PC. But don’t worry, if you don’t want to get this message again, you just need to select the right option and close it.
    3.   Synaptics TouchPad
This is a driver for mouse. [Mouse property] will show if we do the double clicks on TouchPad icon in tray. You can choose enable/disable internal pointing device when external pointing device is attached. This is brilliant. A tough guy (like me…HA! HA!) didn’t like to play game with touchpad. Because the character in game will be weak and slow if I control it by touchpad. Of course, I need the external mouse all the time and don’t want the interference from touchpad.
    4.   System Control Manager (SCM)
We can enable/disable the WLAN/BT/camera devices by SCM. Besides, it can control the display brightness, volume, screen on/off and ECO. ECO is special mode for gaming watching movie.
    5.   Sound Blaster CINEMA
Sound Blaster CINEMA is come from an old school audio company – CREATIVE. The software can adjust the surround sound easily. We also can adjust 5.1/7.1 surround sound for the internal speakers and external headphone. That is great, isn’t it?
Besides, we can also adjust CRYSTALIZER/BASS/SMART VOLUME/digital output by ourselves.
    6.   Killer Network Manager
This is a major feature of MSI NB.
In Killer Network Manager, we can set the network priority for each of applications and we also can abandon the connection from malicious software.
[Performance] shows current status of network. We can find out which application occupied the most greedy resources by it.
[Network -> Test Network Speed] will detect the network environment automatically. Furthermore, it will adjust the priority for applications.
[Killer Ethernet] show the LAN connection info.
[Killer Wireless] show the router info.
    7.   SteelSeries Engine
This is another major feature of MSI NB
If we do the right click on icon in tray, the menu will show following list. We can select [Launch SteelSeries Firmware Update Tool], [Updates]…and so on.
If we select the [Settings]. It can help us change default language and set application auto running when system power on.
    I.   Buttons
Double click to open the SteelSeries Engine. I think it can set 4 different keyboard settings for each of profiles. And it can switch by FN+1~4.
[Keypress Marc] can record what you input. And [Record Delays ] can modify the delay time. HA! No game can block us anymore. Please remember to press the [SAVE] for your setting
[Launch Application] can launch any application immediately. I suggest to set the cold key for this function.
Here is example. I use [PgUp] to quick start the 3D Mark11. See, it will pop up when I pressed [PgUp].
It is simple to use [TextMarco] set our own phrase. Now I become a quick speaker in my team. One key, only one key can help me to type a lot of words.
Are you tired to press some keys that you never want to touch in game (Like WIN KEY)? It is not the problem now.  [Disable Key] will do the favor and disable any key which you hate.
II.   [Colors] can change the color of backlight keyboard. Also, you can set different modes (Gaming/Audio…etc) on it.
We can change the color zone. There is not only 4 or 5 colors. The engine provides thousands of colors for us. [Audio mode] is the coolest. It will change colors by itself when we play music by speakers. I like to dance with my keyboard.
III.   We can select different languages by [Settings].
IV.   [Properties] can save our hard works of settings reliably.
    V.   If you want to defeat your competitors, it is important to know your enemy. However, It is more important to know yourself. [Statistics] can help us observe which keys are most popular by our fingers.
Right click on [Profile]. It can modify/export/import/delete the profiles.
Mouse can use the same kind of settings as keyboard.
    DPI setting for mouse.
    Save files.
We can record the mouse, too.
    8.   Norton
Norton Internet Security: Anti-Virus software, MSI provides 60 days for free.
Norton Online Backup: Online data backup software, MSI provides 30 days for free.
Norton Anti-Theft: Anti-Theft software, MSI provides 30 days for free.
If you like Norton’s products, you can buy it online.
If you don’t, I believe we can uninstall it directly.
    So, the decision is ours.
    Introduction from Norton official website
    9.   Dragon Gaming Center
    I.   System Monitor:
It can monitor CPU/GPU loading and temperature. We also can find the network speed and fan speed in it.
    II.   Utility:
You can set your favorite apps in [Add new Utility].
E.g. I added a [MSI Afterburner]. Click [Open] to build the link. Do you feel familiar with something? Exactly, [Launch Application] of [SteelSeries Engine] can do this, too.
    III.   Instant Play:
We can define [Fn+F4] to enable the quick start. But there is more secret.
We can also use [Browse] to assign the game which we want.
Click the icon of game and [Fn+F4] will be ready. We can only use 1 program at once.
I usually change the brightness, volume and mouse sensitive before the game. As you know, every games are different. It is sweet because we can use  [Apply Setting] to do this.
I can’t believe it. We also can find the clock feature in it. How convenient it is!
IV.   Hybrid Power is another MSI feature.
It can provide the power by AC adapter and battery in the same time. We can monitor the status in here.
    10. BurnRecovery
It can create the recovery CD/DVD/USB for MSI NB.
    Here can select Recovery disc/USB/ISO.
I will make a ISO file first.
We can select where to put the ISO.
    Creating the recovery file...
    Finish!
Open the folder and we can find 4 ISO files in it.
Well…[BurnRecovery Help] provide the details spec.
In my opinion, everyone should create their own recovery image. You will need it in one day.
    11. Battery Calibration
This is software for battery calibration. In order to keep our battery good, we should do the calibration every three months. Don’t forget to plug-in the AC adapter and battery during the process..
Press [Start] to begin the process. It will make the battery fully charged first.
Then, it will empty the battery like this.
System will shut down after the empty process. At last, fully charged again. It will take 4~5 hrs to complete the process.
    12. MSI Dragoon Army /MSI Facebook /Web site /YouTube
Those are MSI forums/Facebook/official website/YouTube and links.
[MSI Dragoon Army] is the official forum for MSI. We can find NB, MB and AIO info in it.
Facebook Quick Link for many countries of world.
    MSI official website
    YouTube channel of MSI.
    13. Super-Charger
There is no message when I click this app at the first time. But when I attached my IPAD, it pops up the [Super-Charger]. It is amazing because IPAD can’t be charge by this USB port. As far as I know, the USB 3.0 only provides maximum 900mA for its device. IPAD will need 2.1A for charge process. I have no idea how MSI NB make IPAD charging okay.
    14. XSplit GameCaster
This is one of important features. I saw many different first class gaming machines this year. All of them have the broadcast software. (Like PS4, Xbos ONE)
It can switch the default language after we login.
Twitch/YouTube / Facebook/ Twitter/Google+ can be used by [Accounts]. It is easy to start the live show.
We can modify the resolution and use twitch by [Setting]
We can configure FPS/CPU loading/where to show on display by [Status label].
    Hotkey configuration.
    Videos storage.
Press [Ctrl+Tab] to call Gamecaster in game. And we can twitch or modify setting. I will provide my gaming video for you later.
    15. Power DVD
This is a famous video player. Also, it can support BD format.
We can use the [Setting] to change our language.
We can change 5 times for default country .
It is glad that I’ve finished the introduction of GT70 software.
    Performance report:
Um…Now is late at night. I should go to my lovely bed.  Following is the testing report for the reference.
