Sender File adapter Pooling interval & file Size issue

Hi ALL,
I have a file size of 400 MB to be picked to be the sender file adapter i am facing issue that the system is unable to even pick the file and place in the Q for Processing.
1)we have no mapping no content conversion ....only pick the file from one loaction and place it in 3 different locations with 3 different names ...can any one help me in solving this .. ? the best workable method to achive this .
2) this file is getting created once in a day .say 2 PM .so i can give the poll intravel to 24 hours ..but some times ..the file creation in server gets delayed ..but they cont wain for the next 24 hour to come for processing the file ..so my query is can we reduce the poll intravel for 2 PM till 3PM hour for some 3 times ..and once it reches 3PM it can poll as usual with a gap of 24 hour time ..

Never use File adapter for picking large file (maximum size which I have seen it to work successfully is 200 MB)
Instead go for Java proxies. Check this forum post for the discussion:

File adapter with empty files!

Hi guys,
My scenario is: File -> XI (BPM) -> JDBC
Under BPM I have a fork with two parallel receivers correlated and two sender file adapters for that. Those senders also have file conversion (.seq file to XML).
My problem is: in case of files coming empty, is it possible that senders file adapter generates error during file conversion? And/or generates errors during correlations?
If so, "I wouldnt like", because after receive these two files I have a switch to check if the file(s) coming empty and a control step to terminate the process in case of true. But this only works if no errors have occurred on the earlier steps!
At this moment I cant test it, so Im asking If anyone has faced an issue like this one?

Which SP are you on?
Before Sp19 on XI 3.0 and SP10 on Pi, Empty Files are ignored by XI. The file adapter picks the file and if it is a empty file ( a zero byets file ) the file does not create a message at all for the file.
From Sp19, the file adapter has options that allow you to decide how to process the empty file. You can create an error message etc.

File Adapter Stores temp file?

I'm assuming a sender file adapter will store a copy of the retrieved file in the OS somewhere. Does anyone know where this file would be stored and does it only exist until the adapter has completed processing of the file?

Sorry folks I don't think I was clear in my original question. All I want to know is when the sender file adapter connects to some remote system to retrieve a file...
1) Does XI physically move the file to the XI box (regardless of the archive/delete/test setting) or does it simply load it in RAM? For the adapter to be able to process the file my assumption is that it has to be loaded somewhere on the XI box.
2) If it physically moves the file to the XI box where does it temporarily place it?
I'm aware of the archive setting and other options for creating local copies. I just want to know the "inner workings" of how the sender file adapter moves the files.

File Adapter not writing file when processed from one node in a clustered environment

In our environment, we have 4 server nodes running. We are using a file adapter to write file to a location in the server. the adapter is writing files when its processing data in all nodes except one.

File Adapter not processing Files which has COMMA in it

Hi Experts,
I am working on Project in SOA 11.1.1.6.
I am trying to process a file which has comma in it. for eg - XXXXXXX-XX_XX_XXX11,99.pdf
I am picking the file using file adapter from SOURCE directory and using another file adapter to WRITE to destination directory. Polling processing is working fine.
I am picking the file from SOURCE directory as ATTACHMENT and WRITING to DESTINATION folder through File Adapter
While doing file WRITE its failing. While reading the file the values of Content Type, Character Set and Encoding are NULL for the ATTACHMENT as they are optional properties.
The error I am getting while File WRITE is

Comma is usually treated as a separator/delimiter and hence it is not really common to have comma in filename. I think because of this reason File adapter does not support it (have to cross-verify). If you really have a requirement to read/write files with comma in filename then better log a SR with Oracle support.

File adapter picking up files with wrong content

Hello, We configured a file adapter to read *.xml files. We also defined the xsd for the files. We expected that the adapter would only pick up files that conform to the xsd. However we found that all *.xml files (even renamed jpeg's) are read. Is this intended behaviour? Or did we miss some configuration setting?

A short follow-up:
To make matters worse. If I take a completely different file (like the jpeg) and rename it .xml it gets picked up by the file adpater but there is no audit trail of the BPEL process instance. The file is not archived either, so it's completely gone! If I just change one of the elements the file is read and archived. I can also have the file adapter write the file with the wrong content.
I found a reference to a bug. (bug 5926809 or SR 6327165.994) is this related, is it solved?

File Adapter : read XML file with data validation and file rejection ?

Hello,
In order to read a XML file with the file adapter, I have defined a XSD that I have imported to my project.
Now the File Adapter reads the file correctly but it does not give an error when:
- the data types are not valid. Ex: dateTime is expected in a node and a string is provided
- the XML file has invalid attributes.
How can I manage error handling for XML files ?
Should I write my own Java XPath function to validate the file after is processed ? (here is an example for doing this : http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web/Web_Languages/XML/Q_21058568.html)

one option is to specify validateXML on the partnerlink (that describes the file adapter endpoint) such as shown here

How to use File Adapter to transport files

Hi,
Can i use File Adapter Additional Files settings to Transfer files from one system to other without conversion?
File Adapter's Additional Files documentation says "additional attachments require a receiver that can process them". In my case receiver is also
File Adapter.
Please let me know if there is any other way to achive this.

Notice in "Rules for Additional Files":
"Messages with additional attachments require a receiver that can process them."
Currently, the receiver file adapter does not support the processing of attachments.

Sender File adapter Pooling

Hi ALL,
1)while creating the file in the FTP server i want the sender file adater to wait or lock from polling the file getting created and start picking the file once its completely crated.
i am told that we need to write OS commends to handle this ..if any one has done this can you pls help..with the command.?
2)is there any way to handle this issue with having a trigger file which intimates the adapter to pick the actual data file .. ?

You can use use "Specifying Additional Files" to achieve ur secnario.
Trigger fileName: PickupFile.trg (Specify this file name in Sender File adapter)
ActualFileName: Pickupfile.txt (Specify these details in Specifying Additional Files)
Use the payload swap bean to swap between Trigger file & actual file. The Actual file can be used in further processing like msg mapping...
Limitations:
All additional files must be in the source directory.
The name of the additional file is determined from the file name that was assigned for the XI message under File Name
No file content conversion is possible

Sender File Adapter Error reading file

Hello!
I have a problem with reading a file using the FTP adapter.
I have configured everything according to the steps of weblog "FILE to JDBC Adapter using SAP XI 3.0" (/people/sap.user72/blog/2005/06/01/file-to-jdbc-adapter-using-sap-xi-30).
I know the sender FTP adapter can connect to the directory and file because:
1) it has complained about wrong format in the content conversion (has been fixed)
2) when there is no file for it there to pick up, the FTP flag in the adapter monitor is green
When I put a file in the specified directory I get the following error:
- 2006-06-21 09:52:23 CDT: Retry interval started. Length: 10.000 s
- 2006-06-21 09:52:23 CDT: Error: Retrieving file 'test_file.dat' failed unexpectedly: FTPEx: Public: The system cannot find the file specified.
- 2006-06-21 09:52:20 CDT: Processing started
- 2006-06-21 09:52:13 CDT: Error: Retrieving file 'test_file.dat' failed unexpectedly: FTPEx: Public: The system cannot find the file specified.
- 2006-06-21 09:52:10 CDT: Processing started
I also get the same error if I skip the content conversion and put a "ready" XML file there.
There should be no auth problems at all. Public server, and I can log on, get, put, delete etc. Also it can apparently read it since it can complain about the content format. Anyone seen this before?

Is your User Id and User Id/Password is correct ?
Is connection mode is per file transfer in File Adapter configuration?

I have a requirement where in my file adapter has to pick files from a FTP server after 10 minutes of its creaion on the FTP server. Some application will place file on this FTP server exactly after 10 minutes of its creation on this FTP server only it should be picked by the sender File Adapter. Is there any way to achieve this? Please provide me your thoughts on resolving this.

as mentioned by suraj, the ideal way is to have a spearate folder where the files will be moved after the 10 minutes of its creation.
PI/XI will poll this folder and pick files.
out of curiosity, can i know why there is such a requirement of 10 min?

Sender File adapter and duplicate file processing

If I set the sender file adapter to delete or archive and when a file gets picked up and processed, this file will not get deleted/archived unless it was successfully processed. However, if it errors out during processing, the file remains but it's message will get persisted in the integration engine or adapter engine. Since there's automatic retry, we have the potential for duplicate processing as in addition to the retry, the file is still continously polling for this file. In other words, how do we stop this duplicate file processing?

your file wont get deleted unless adapter engine sucesfull pickups. if does not picked up at adapter engine then is not stored in adapter engine . if it reached Intergation Server and failed their then file would be deleted.

Sender FTP Adapter - Archive faulty files not working

Hello,
We are on SAP PI 7.11 SP 06
We have a scenario where we are reading CSV files from a FTP location.
File Sender Adapter is polling the FTP location for CSV files, if there
is any error during FCC we need to move the faulty file under a
particular directory on FTP server.
Archive faulty files tick is click under the communication channel and
also the required directory is specified, but the functionality is not
working.
If there is a faulty file it is just adding a rejected prefix to the
file and keeping the file in the polling directory. It is not moving
the file in the rejected directory specified in the communication
channel.

Are you trying to archive the file on the same FTP server or a different FTP server? Archiving the faulty file on the FTP server might not have expected results. And if you are trying to archive the file on a separate FTP server, it wouldn't probably be achieved using the simple file adapter functionalities.
The best way would be to archive the faulty files to an NFS location on your PI server (this will certainly work, even if it's FTP mode) and then use a separate script or PI interface (file tunneling) to move these files from PI server File System to FTP archive location.

Can sender file adapter read plain files with different structure?

Hej experts,
I am facing the following sutiation in FIle-to-Mail scenario:
Bank sends two types of file : CONTRL and BANSTA to the same directory where XI shall pick , map to other stucture (mail structure ) and send mail.
You can not identify the file type( CONTRL or BANSTA) from file name - only from file content.
Would it be possible for XI to pick up file, check the structure and select the right XML structure to transform to?
Any other solutions?

If not wrong even XI/ PI cannot understand it.....if you say you can implement an adapter module to do the file conversion....even in that case you will need to know the file format....do you need to implement any conversion on the file?
