"Skype can't connect." Error Message with Mac OS 1...

I'm a first time user and can't get Skype to connect. My user name and password have been verified. I'm wondering if my OS isn't compatible with this version of Skype. Any advice?

Your 6.0 version of Skype has been retired.  The latest/only version of Skype that will run on your OSX is Skype 6.3.0.604.

Technically, that is not correct. The latest version may be 6.3, but it's not the only one, as 2.8 still works (you have to apply two small fixes, see http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/My-solution-to-continue-using-Skype-2-8-on-older-OS-X-Lion-etc/td-... and http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/My-solution-to-continue-using-Skype-2-8-on-older-OS-X-Lion-etc/m-p... for how to do it).

  • Skype can't connect error

    Hi Skype Support!
I've had Skype installed since ever (current version 6.14.60.104), I've been using it daily without any serious problems. All of a sudden I now keep getting the "Skype can't connect" message. I've been trying it all morning and it just will not work.
I've tried this on my PC and my Mac and I've gotten the same message on both. I even tried entering the wrong password just to see if it would return any other message, still takes a while to try and connect and then returns "Skype can't connect".
UPNP is enabled, I haven't touched my router since skype was working last time, I've restarted everything. I ended up calling my ISP to see if there was a problem on their end, just to make sure, and he replied that he had gotten people asking about the same thing and saying that skype wasn't not working on their PC but worked on their mobile. So that prompted me to try it on my Android and sure enough, it worked there, on the WiFi, but not on my desktop pc or my laptop mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    Thanks for the link!
Sadly, that didn't do the trick, it still can't connect. Which is weird, because it works on my laptop but not my PC. I would think of my PC being the problem if it was only happening on it, but the fact that my Mac doesn't work either is a strange addition to the mix
I'm literally lost in this issue, but atleast it works on my laptop now!

What exactly is the "latest" installed Skype version? In Skype go to Help -> About Skype.

  • Can't connect iMac/Leopard with Mac Mini/Tiger and vice versa

This one has got me tearing my hair out.
I have an Intel iMac running Leopard and a Mac Mini running Tiger on the same Ethernet network. Both run (adjacent) fixed IP addresses with common subnet mask and gateway. Both access the Internet fine through a single router. But can I share files between the two?
Neither has firewall turned on while file sharing is enabled. I can see each Mac from the other but when I try connecting first I get 'The server may not exist or is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again.' Then on clicking OK I get 'This file server is running on your machine. Please access the volumes and files locally.'
If I try connecting from Finder using Go - Connect To Server I get this error message 'The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "afp://MacMininame" could not be read or written.'
Although I'm running Leopard on the iMac now, this also used to happen when I ran Tiger too.
    Many thanks - GeoffT.

    Fixed it!
I have Parallels installed on the iMac and it creates two virtual network adapters (Guest-Host and NAT) in System Preferences/Network. For some reason I'd foolishly contrived to manually configure the Nat adapter to the same IP address as the Mac Mini, hence the point-back to the iMac every time.
Guess we're all allowed the occasional foul up.....

  • Earthlink Total Access Preferences conflict/error message with Mac 10.4

I'm running 10.4.11 and have had Earthlink for about a year now. I have the latest edition of Earthlink for Mac installed from disc. Everything is fine and my connection (unfortunately, dial-up) works great. However, I have never been able to use the Preferences button in Total Access on Earthlink. I keep getting an error message on the Mac that says: "You cannot open TotalAccess preferences pane on this computer. Contact the developer of this software for a newer version." I talked with Earthlink and they say there is some conflict that is preventing the Preferences from opening, but they cannot help. It is on the Mac side. Does anyone know what this conflict is and how to resolve it? Thanks.

    Hi Aaron,
FWIW, I have to agree with BDAqua, and to switch. Earthlink was "the" internet provider for Mac OS for years but with recent upgrades to the OS and competition they have really fallen off the map IMO. Their support, while at one time, was probably the best that you could get for Mac OS is now not much more than barely adequate. I finally had enough a couple years ago and switched myself and am glad I did. I don't know what their internet fees are these days but I do know that when I switched they were the highest around and their service and support of Mac OSX got worse and not better. Even Apple, who at one time, included Earthlinks software with new computers no longer does I believe. I would check into switching to another ISP....one that is most likely cheaper and with better support for Mac OS X!

  • Can't connect to SquirrelMail with Mac OS X Mail client

I am working with an organization whose email is running on SquirrelMail.  When I try to set it up as a new account in my Mac OS X Mail client, I choose IMAP, enter the email server name, password, etc. but once the account is created I keep getting the message, "Mail can't connec to the account...   Enter the password."  I have checked and double checked that the password is correct because I can log onto the account via the webmail portal.  Any ideas on special configuration settings necessary for SquirrelMail on the Mac OS X Mail client?

    Hello jsgrubb,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are trying to set up your email on your Mac but are receiving an alert. To ensure that the correct steps are being followed to set up the account, I would first recommend reading over the following attached article.
Mac Basics: Use Mail on your Mac - Apple Support
If you are still unable to set up the account, it may be necessary to contact the provider of the account to verify the correct Mail settings for the account.

  • 150:30 error message with Mac photoshop elements

On my Mac, I moved my photoshop elements application to another storage drive vs. my computer drive and the system now gives me this error.  How do I fix this problem?  All my other programs work off of this drive..

You can never, never, never move an installed copy of PSE. The first thing to do is to try putting it back where it was and see if it works there. Probably won't anymore, but first try that and report back.

  • Can't connect to network with mac, only pc.

I have a powerbook and have just installed an airport extreme card. I do not have my own internet connection and intend to 'borrow' connections that I pick up.
In the past I have used a friend's PC laptop &belkin wireless adapter to connect to networks accidentally found in both his house and mine. This was no problem whatsoever and a connection without passwords etc was possible in both.
When I try to connect my powerbook the following happens:
    1. In his house: I can connect to an open apple network but the connection is unbearably slow while I can work on his computer from the same point relatively easily.
    2. In my house: When I try to connect I get 'error in connection to linksys' or similar (maybe even get asked for passwords).
I have very limited knowledge of these things and have no idea what it means or what the problem is.
If anyone can tell me why the connection always seems to be slow or unachievable on my powerbook (when an old PC laptop succeeds) I'd be most grateful.

It could be as simple as the owners of those wireless networks didn''t want other people using their networks and have added a layer of security.
One you may also want to have a look at these recent cases involving using other people's wireless networks.

  • VPN client can't connect Error message in log is

    I_Cookie=E8639EE347B0332A R_Cookie=2E769D3CBD38C09F) reason = DEL_REASON_WE_FAILED_AUTH
What does this mean? How do you fix it?

    Thomas
I would interpret this to mean that you failed authentication when you attempted to connect. When you attempt to connect do you get a prompt? If not (and I suspect this is the case) it would indicate a problem in setting up the group authentication in the client. If you do get a prompt then it would indicate a problem with the setup of your ID or password in the server or that you have incorrectly entered ID or password.
Be careful that group name is entered correctly (including upper case or lower case matching).
Be careful that passwords are correctly enterred (including upper case or lower case matching and no trailing blanks).

  • Can't connect error message

I have tried everything, but for some reason when I open Firefox, I can't access any websites. I can access everything through IE.

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • My mac book pro does not start but has error message with a question mark on screen. took it in and was told probably the hard drive as could not reconize it so bought new one but still not connecting.what do i do

My mac book pro does not connect but shows an error message with a question mark on the screen.I took it to a retailer that said it was not reconizing the hard drive. He said i needed a new hard drive but it may be something else as well but he was sure a new hard drive would fix it.So putting faith in someone who deals with them i purchased a new hard drive to find it was still not working although he said the computer did know reconize the hard drive and i may have to send it away to get it checked .After already paying 120 pounds for a new hard drive and they wanting another 80.00 pounds to diagnose it i am a little sceptical.
That's why i am interested on anyone's help.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html

I replaced the hard drive to a 30gig on my Ipod 4th gen. click wheel but it is still not recognized on my computer or in itunes......I get an error message with a folder and "!"....what can I do to fix??

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)

Ruwim, could you please read my message I have sent you? Regards,KevazyTry to reset all Skype settings. Quit Skype or use Windows Task Manager to kill any Skype.exe process. Go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %appdata% and then press Enter or click the OK button. The Windows File Explorer will pop up. There locate a folder named “Skype”. Rename this folder to something different, e.g. Skype_old. Next go to Windows Start and in the Search/Run box type %temp%\skype and then press Enter or click the OK button. Delete the DbTemp folder. Restart Skype. N.B. If needed, you will still be able to re-establish your call and chat history. All data is still saved in the Skype_old folder.
