Solaris 10 x86 Install skips Network Configuration

I am trying to install solaris 10 x86 on a Dell Dimension and not able to get the network card to work. The network card is Ok as I tested it by installing Windows XP on the same box.
Ifconfig -a shows only le0.
What is the best way to enable the network card?
Any help is appreciated.

I think u should do one thing.
1) Find out your name of your NIC card. ( Probably if u installed XP and seen which NIC is that)
2) Download drivers for your NIC by giving something like " download network drivers for solaris for ' your NIC' ".
3) If fortunately if u get drivers, copy it on ur solaris machine and install it by reading readme file of the drivers.
4) In readme file u will also find NIC name.
5) Then run command " ifconfig (card name e.g. bcme0) plumb
6) Now run "ifconfig -a" if u find ur card name there except le0 then congrats u have done it.
7) Move ahead with network config.
Note : - I am not sure but i think if ur machine is old then u will not get drivers for it.
Tell me if u get success........

  • Installing oracle- Network Configuration

    Hi all,
I am installing oracle 11g on oracle enterprise linux.
Everything is fine except Network Configuration. When i run OUI it gives following message:
    Checking Network Configuration requirements ...
Check complete. The overall result of this check is: Not executed <<<<
Recommendation: Oracle supports installations on systems with DHCP-assigned public IP addresses. However, the primary network interface on the system should be configured with a static IP address in order for the Oracle Software to function properly. See the Installation Guide for more details on installing the software on systems configured with DHCP.
    ========================================================
    please help me with this.
    Regards,
    Shane

    1) If the install is for learning, just ignore the warning.
    2) If you want this VM client to communicate with other VM clients on the
same VMware server, change the VMware NIC to host-only and then use the
Linux system-config-network tool, edit the ethX definition to use your
chosen IP address; a manually-assigned IP address is static, thus
    avoiding the warning.
    3) If you want machines other than your laptop to be able to communicate with
your RDBMS, you need to do step #2 but change the VMware NIC emulation to a
    bridged device.
Hope this gives you the right places to start looking.

  • Solaris 10 x86 install and Networking

    Greetings,
I have finally gotten S10 insalled on a Win-Tel box and it appears to be working, for the most part. I am currently working on getting the box integrated into our company network and need some direction.
First, is there a good tutorial on configuring a network connection on Solaris 10? I need something that starts at ground zero and walks me through the process. I am UNIX literate but it's been a while since I have had to admin a system.
So what I need to do is:
    a. get the Lan card recognized and configured under S10
    b. Get the DHCP client working so I can obtain an IP address from our internal DHCP server (actually I think it's running on a switch).
    c. Get Samba up and running so I can share files with a Windows machine.
Any pointers to information on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    TC

Well, if you don't think the online Documentation helpful, then the better way is reading step-by-step instructions from a book. Get to local bookstore, i.e Barne&Nobles or Border or any big local bookstore, there should be pretty good book for Unix Administrator (Solaris version).
If you have time and think you can memorize then, read on the spot; otherwise, buy the book for future reference.
If that's not what you had in mind, then this link of free online book might help : http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/solaris8/chapter/ch04.html
Normally, oreilly online bookstore offers free books to accredited universities, colleges, and organizations. However, if that option isn't for you, it might even offer free sample chapters that might just suit your needs.
    hoep it helps.

  • Solaris x86 install ok, audio not working

I have installed V10 on an MSI AMD x86 (32bit) board, coexisting with my Windows,Linux and OS/2 partitions. All works ok, except audio.
This is an NVIDIA based board, and uses the NForce drivers. I saw one entry in the HCL about the Audio810 driver, but that didn't help.
I need audio to work to try out the Java Desktop Accessibility features.
ps, it works in Linux, Fedora Core 3.
I also installed a Creative PCI Soundcard, so could use this instead. The boot time configurator sees the hardware in the PCI slot, but never does anything with it.
    help help..
    thanks
    Sam

I ran into this as well. As soon as it detects an audio error, it shuts down the "audio server". Once you get valid drivers (or a valid card, like the Sound Blaster), you have to activate the audio server function in JDS.
I can't remember exactly where is it located off the top of my head, but I had to do that last week when I ended up installing drivers for the Intel 82810BA audio chipset. Once I activated the audio server (or sound server or something like that), I was able to get full audio with the exception of the CD audio. I have no idea what that's about.
I remember that I found the audio server check box somewhere in one of the GUI configuration tools. Search around. You should be able to find it after a while.

  • Solaris x86 install, but no ZFS

    Hello,
I installed Solaris 10 x86 10/09 in a vSphere environment, but didn't get the option to use ufs or zfs during the install procedure. Is this no option? because I want to use zfs.
    # cat /etc/vfstab
    /dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 /dev/rdsk/c1t0d0s0 / ufs 1 no
Nevertheless during the boot I've seen the message
    Reading ZFS config: done
    -- Nick

You have to choose the right installation type.
You get a choice of about 5 options interactive, etc. There a note that you need to choose type 3 or 4 to do a ZFS install.
But I can't remember which types that relates to exactly.

  • Network is down suddenly on my Solaris X86 box

    Hi all,
I have been using Solaris X86 for a while. However, I found a strange problem when downloading large/many
files with FTP. For example, I ftp to my Solairs X86 box and try to download all my backup software to my local
notebook or PC. After about 10 mins, Solaris X86 box's network will be down suddenly without any error or
    warning message.
I found this problem from Solaris8 to Solaris9 and the FTP server daemon I used included NcFTPd, vsftp and
even the default FTP daemon. I have tried two different hardwares. The only one possible reason is my
    network (Intel 100 ServerPro something).
Does anyone have such a strange problem when downloading many/large files from your Solaris X86 box?
I also check the log file but found nothing.....:-(
Thinking to switch FreeBSD/Linux box for my FTP service. Please advice and thanks first!
    Hsinan

This bug is common to the Intel Server 100 MBit Cards
The problem occurs on high net load.
You have to reboot to restart the card, since it is a complete
    stop of the card.
You can try to put the card into another pci-slot, but this helps
    only in rare cases.
I had to replace the card with a 3com 3c905b to have uninterrupted
    transfers.
The Inteldualport cards seem to work to.

  • Jre for solaris x86

    hi,
I know that there is a separate JRE for Solaris X86. But my problem is that i have Solaris x86 installed an amd 64 bit machine and also on an Intel 64 bit machine.
I would like to know if it is possible to use the same jre for both the machines.

Edited by: Diganth.A on Feb 4, 2009 11:16 AMThis all depends on the operating system your are using and the type of 64 bit hardware architecture type.
Can you please provide more specific details about the architecture and operating systems you are trying to install your JRE on?
Typically you will want to download a pre-configured JRE for your OS platform and hardware architecture.

    Hello,
When I install Solaris 10 06/06 on my x86 machine, I follow all of the prompts. Eventually , I get to a place in the X Windows GUI where I enter my IP, netmask, Router IP, DNS server IPs, domain, and search list.
I get an error at the end of th network configuration section.
runCmd error in /usr/sbin/sysidput with output:
    Unable to run cmd: /usr/sbin/sysidput
    No sysidcfg found.
I found my sysidcfg at /etc/sysidcfg. everytime I try to create a file or copy a file over to /usr/sbin. I get a read only error. I am logged in as root..
/etc is not my $PATH. Is that the problem? Do special commands exist to put it in the path?
Please help. I have not used UNIX in two years. I not know Solaris Administration.
Does a newer DVD exist with the fix already done?
    Thank you very much.

This is a known issue. Do not configure the network at the time of OS installation. Select NON-Networked and continue,
Once you are done with the installation, run sys-unconfig and you will be able to configure the network.

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

  • How to install a network print on solaris 10

How to install a network print on solaris 10?
    Thank You!

    Thank you Zettabyte!!
Folks, network printers should NOT BE configured like this:
    lpadmin -p somequeue -s someprinter
that creates a remote style queue and puts all the I/O and processing capability on the basic LPD listener present on network printer interfaces. This will cause problems down the road, not to mention that you cannot control access, get any logging, filter content, or control banner pages.
Network printers should use any software (or PPD file) supplied by the vendor over the basic lpadmin/netstandard config.
You can install CUPS, but Oracle won't support it until it's part of the OS (S11, apparently).
The "System Administration Guide: Solaris Printing" is highly recommended for those administering printers on Solaris.

  • Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers

Is it possible to create a configuration profile that will install multiple network printers and their associated drivers?
I was not able to find profile manager on my employer's installation of 10.6 Server. Is this only a feature of 10.7/10.8 server?

10.6 server does not have profile manager, profile manager is only available in 10/7 and 10.8 server
for 10.6 server you'll need to use wgm and server admin
printer management with 10.6, I recommend you read the relevant server manuals regarding
print server and user management, printer management

  • Network configuration Solaris 10.

    Hi all,
I got my solaris up and running with Audio and graphics working fine. Now I need to setup internet. I know the following details. Can anybody help me how to set this information. In linux I would, network configuration tool and on windows, I chang the TCP/IP properties. I don't know what to do in solaris.
    I ahve the following information.
    1) My IP Address
    2) Subnext mask
    3) DNS
    4) Primary gateway
    5) Sec. Gateway.

If your IP is dynamic, Solaris should get you connected to web, without your intervention. Just make sure the DHCP client is running (it runs, by default). Also check this compatibility list: http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl/data/sol/components/views/networking_all_results.page1.html
If everything looks good, you can try "inetmenu" tool to get a valid IP address. More information is available at OpenSolaris web site: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/laptop/inetmenu/
