Using "Saved As..." to create alternate mixes

I'm not sure if I have this process down pat so I'll state what I think is right and please correct me where I'm not. I want to create 2 separate mixes of the same song. Let's say the first version is called "my song" and I've already saved it as such. Now I want to create another mix while still retaining a saved mix of the first version. I would do "SAVE AS...." "my song 1st mix" The title of the song would change on top of the GB page as well as on the menu of songs when you open a file in GB.. Now I'd remix the song and do "SAVE AS.... "my song 2nd mix". The title would change again at the top of the page and the menu but this time my file folder would show two separate files: "my song 1st mix" and "my song 2nd mix". Now when I click on "open an existing file" I would see those two separate file names and I can select either one to work on.

No point to my original process which would create three files since two of them would be identical. True?
there is never harm in backups, and there are never too many backups. i think your original workflow sounds good, but if you use something like TimeMachine, making hourly backups, then perhaps 2 "working" files is good enough, yes

Yes, I just want to cover up all the pages for those particular area of document numbers.
Nothing sensitive about it. I just want to show the correct document numbers on all pages in print out.
So, I wanted to cover up by comments, but commenting on each page will be difficult. So, I wanted to comment the same on all pages.

  • "Create alternate versions without using extra disk space" Really?

"Create alternate versions without using extra disk space" says Apple. But is that really true? Because, from what I understand, for Aperture's OS Integration (with the Media Browser) to work, Aperture has to render Previews of all your photos first. So, any alternate versions that you create, do exist on your Hard Drive in the form of an actual file (e.g. a JPEG).

As Ian notes, it's smaller than a RAW - also smaller than an alternate PSD you might make, or duplicating a background layer in a PSD.
Also though, you don't have to have previews for everything - I find what I do is leave automatic preview generation turned off and then just generate previews for images that I like the end result of. This lets you explore alternate versions with essentially no addition space used.

  • How do you create a mixed media disc? I would like to include a slideshow/movie as well as include a .pdf of a photo book on the same disc?

How do you create a mixed media disc? I would like to include a slideshow/movie as well as include a .pdf of a photo book on the same disc. I would like the movie to play on any DVD player.

Do you want the pdf available to view or just for copying from the disk to a computer for viewing.
To view a PDF you can do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto which will create a jpg of each page of the pdf and save it to iPhoto.  From there you can send the PDF jpegs to iDVD to make a slideshow of the pages.  It's the same principle as used in this tutorial: 06 - Creating an iDVD Slideshow From an iPhoto Book.
If you don't have the Safe to iPhoto workflow in your HD/Library/PDF Services folder you can download it from  Toad's Cellar.

  • Creating alternate layout --- missing a step --- how do I change setting so not only print options?

Hi - I'm running into an issue when going to Layout/Create Alternate Layout on one of my docs. The following options only appear vs any of the digital options (iPad-H or iPad-V).
Then when I hit the Page Size dropdown, these are the only options that appear.
I'm confused about how to generate a Digital Publishing option from my print doc.
I sense I'm missing an easy step, but can't figure it out. Many thanks in advance for replies.

You can’t have a print layout and DPS layout in the same file. You really need to create a new file at 1024x768 with digital publishing as the intent.
From there you can use the content collector tools or just copy/paste. Alternatively, use the save as command to create a new file and then do the adjustments to the layout.
For follow-ups please post in the DPS forum.

which user exit can be use before production order creating?
i want to check AFPO data, then show error message before production order creating.
1.i try to use PPCO0001( enhancement when saving the order) to check AFPO data, then show some error message, sap system will generate a abap down error.
2.i try to use PPCO0007(Exit when saving production order),
    i can show error message,but i can't check AFPO's data.

    Hi,
You can access AFPOD structure using field symbols.
Try below mentioned code in routing:
    constants: c_afpod TYPE char30 VALUE '(SAPLCOKO1)AFPOD' .
    FIELD-SYMBOLS: <fs_afpod> TYPE ANY .
    data: wa_afpod TYPE afpod.
    ASSIGN (c_afpod) TO <fs_afpod>.
    wa_afpod = <fs_afpod>.
Then later you can use wa_afpod in exit PPCO0007. Hope this will work for you.

  • Cannot access iPad or other tablets presets when creating Alternate Layouts

I'm all for repurposing but here's what bugs me. Suppose I create a cover for some magazine. Next, I'd like to create an Alternate Layout to see how the design would look on a tablet device. Fair? Suppose the Cover size is standard letter size. When I launch the Create Alternate Layout command, the size menu only lists "print-based" formats like Tabloid or Legal or A4 and so on. Why, on earth, wouldn't the "Digital Publishing"-oriented size not be listed there? Like Surfacei or Pad or Android or Kindle or Xoom? I mean, what's the point of this command? I have no choice but to choose "Custom" and enter 1024 pixels by 768 pixels, for instance. Yet, when I'm done typing, InDesign CC immediately converts to some equivalent "inches", like 14 some odd inches by whatever? It is unable to retain my custom units? Why?
I'm curious to know what rule is applied to convert between these units systems at this point? Is it standard 72dpi? I can't figure this out.
Another thing that bugs me in Creating Alternate Layout is the business of Bleeds. Suppose again, in my Cover design, that I use the standard 0.25" bleed margins, how can I get rid of them in the Alternate Layouts I create? Suppose again for a tablet design? I have not found a way to tell InDesign about resetting the bleeds on that Alternate Layouts. The net effect is that, the generated alternate layout looks silly on screen, with its stupid red guides that extends all around the page.
    So that's my question. Thank's.

"The assumption is that a document will either be used for Print or for Digital Publishing or for Web".
So, it is an either or proposition.
I probably have a fantasy or a grossly preconceived notion of what Alternate Layouts are all about.
But blame it on Terry White and the other "evangelists", in AdobeTV and Tutorial videos who position this feature with the very purpose of doing a Print to Web to Digital Publishing workflow. It a user *has* to chose, at the onset, the intent of a given document then, this feature, in my eyes, has limited value.
I confess I'm not knowledgeable in all of Adobe's new products, in particular those designed specifically to "port" content from one type of media to another, like from Print to Digital. It's entirely possible that Adobe already has a solution for this "problem", that many, in the print business face, day in day out. I gather that if InDesign was actually delivering on this functionality, maybe it would actually be cannibalizing Adobe's other products, that are specifically designed with this functionality in mind?
So, I won't say that this feature is broken but as far as allowing a true "purpose-independent" kind of workflow, we'll say that Alternate Layouts will allow "portability" within one kind of media or another, not accross various media types.
Thank's Steve, for your patient and kind help.

  • Creating Alternate Rollups in Planning

    Hi,
I need to use ODI to load entities in a way that alternate rollups (shared members) can be created.
For example, if District_4312 currently exists in Branch_4312 and I subsequently try to load District_4312 to Branch_5312 (a different rollup), I would want to load it to Branch_5312 as a shared member.
When I try to add a pre-existing member to a new parent, it moves the member instead of Sharing it.
Is there a way to get the existing KM to create alternate rollups automatically ?
Do you know of any documentation about the default behaviors for this type of situation ?
If it needs to be done "manually", my guess is that I need to take the parent child format out of Planning into a table....
Then compare my new (incoming) entity list to what pre-exists in Planning. This will make a list of the member that need to be loaded as "shared"....
    Then do the load.
Does anyone have an easier way to accomplish this (an existing KM perhaps).
If I need to go with the manual approach, Is there an existing knowledge module I can use to take the members out of Planning into a SQL table?

    Hi,
I am not sure what you mean by custom events, is it possible you can expand. If it involves manipulating the data that already exists in the planning app then business rules are perfect for that.
    Cheers
    John

  • Can I use my Korg D3200 as input mixer?

Can I use my Korg D3200 as input mixer for recording into Garageband?

Actually, there is a way to limit the amount of space Time Machine uses for backup so that it won't eat up all your disk space...for example, I have mine set to only use 65GB, and then it starts to overwrite older backups...Google it for more info. To begin with, I deleted my Sparse Disk Image Bundle from Time Capsule, and used Disk Utility to create a Sparse Disk Image Bundle (turn off backups first!!!) with a capacity of 65GB in HFS Journaled, Case Sensitive...The Image must be named as follows "Full Computer Name_Ethernet MAC Address" (The ethernet MAC address is used even if you plan to solely use wifi for backups). for example, my Sparse Disk Image Bundle name is "Ahmad Atiya's MacBook Pro_00254b9d8f72.sparsebundle" Move this image to your time capsule's main directory (if you didn't create it there to begin with). Go to your Time Machine preferences, turn it on, and set it to use your Time Capsule. It should start using the image you created. If you click "get info" on the disk image, it'll show a capacity of whatever you created.

  • Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.

OK, so I'm clearly a newb. I thought if I asked a question, it would post, and now I'm being told to post a comment, so I'm asking the same question again. Sorry I sound like an idiot. I'm new to this apple/mac stuff.
Why does iTunes/iPhone 4S insist it can't find a song on my PC or my phone when it is on both? This is resulting in me being unable to use the ringtones I created from these songs, but I can still play the songs.

If you have added the ringtone file correctly to iTunes, it will appear under iTunes 'Tones' library.
If you don't find Tones library in iTunes, go to iTunes menu EDIT/PRFERENCES under GENERAL tab, check the Tones Box under Library source to display Tones library in iTunes.
iTunes accepts only m4r file as ringtone and has to be less than 40secs.

I need your help with a decision to use iPhoto.  I have been a PC user since the mid 1980’s and more recently have used ACDSee to manage my photo images and Photoshop to edit them.  I have used ProShow Gold to create slideshows.  I am comfortable with my own folder and file naming conventions. I currently have over 23,000 images of which around 60% are scans going back 75 years.  Since I keep a copy of the originals, the storage requirements for over 46,000 images is huge.  180GB plus.
I now have a Macbook Pro and will add an iMac when the new models arrive.  For my photos, I want to stay with Photoshop which also gives me the Bridge.  The only obvious reason to use iPhoto is to take advantage of Faces and the link to iMovie to make slideshows.  What am I missing and is using iPhoto worth the effort?
If I choose to use iPhoto, I am not certain whether I need to load the originals and the edited versions. I suspect that just the latter is sufficient.  If I set PhotoShop as my external editor, I presume that iPhoto will keep track of all changes moving forward.  However, over 23,000 images in iPhoto makes me twitchy and they are appear hidden within iPhoto.  In the past, I have experienced syncing problems with, and database errors in, large databases.  If I break up the images into a number of projects, I loose the value of Faces reaching back over time.
Some guidance and insight would be appreciated.  I have a number of Faces questions which I will save for later.

Bridge and Photoshop is a common file-based management system. (Not sure why you'd have used ACDSEE as well as Bridge.) In any event, it's on the way out. You won't be using it in 5 years time.
Up to this the lack of processing power on your computer left no choice but to organise this way. But file based organisation is as sensible as organising a Shoe Warehouse based on the colour of the boxes. It's also ultimately data-destructive.
Modern systems are Database driven. Files are managed, Images imported, virtual versions, lossless processing and unlimited editing are the way forward.
For a Photographer Photoshop is overkill. It's an enormously powerful app, a staple of the Graphic Designers' trade. A Photographer uses maybe 15% to 20% of its capability.
Apps like iPhoto, Lightroom, Aperture are the way forward - for photographers. There's the 20% of Photoshop that shooters actually use, coupled with management and lossless processing. Pop over to the Aperture or Lightroom forums (on the Adobe site) and one comment shows up over and over again... "Since I started using Aperture/ Lightroom I hardly ever use Photoshop any more..." and if there is a job that these apps can do, then the (much) cheaper Elements will do it.
The change is not easy though, especially if you have a long-standing and well thought out filing system of your own. The first thing I would strongly advise is that you experiment before making any decisions. So I would create a Library, import 300 or 400 shots and play. You might as well do this in iPhoto to begin with - though if you’re a serious hobbyist or a Pro then you'll find yourself looking further afield pretty soon. iPhoto is good for the family snapper, taking shots at birthdays and sharing them with friends and family.
Next: If you're going to successfully use these apps you need to make a leap: Your files are not your Photos.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
When you process an image in iPhoto the file is never touched, instead your decisions are recorded in the database. When you view the image then the Master is presented with these decisions applied to it. That's why it's lossless. You can also have multiple versions and waste no disk space because they are all just listings in the database.
These apps replace the Finder (File Browser) for managing your Photos. They become the Go-To app for anything to do with your photos. They replace Bridge too as they become a front-end for Photoshop.
So, want to use a photo for something - Export it. Choose the format, size and quality you want and there it is. If you're emailing, uploading to websites then these apps have a "good enough for most things" version called the Preview - this will be missing some metadata.
So it's a big change from a file-based to Photo-based management, from editing files to processing Photos and it's worth thinking it through before you decide.
