1-computer on network???

Have set up a number of wireless networks that always had 2-computers.  1-wired, 1-wireless.
Currently trying to establish a wireless network for my laptop WITHOUT a (wired) 2nd computer.  (Using Linksys 160N (?) router)
Can a wireless network be set up for only 1-(wireless) computer and no wired computer in the network???

Yes it can.  Just connect your laptop via wire and perform your configurations along with the wireless config.  Once done, remove the wire and enable the wireless.  Check for proper connection.

Under Network Preferences, select the WiFi
    click on "Advanced..." button
Select the network you want to delete from the list and click on "-"
    Click "Ok"
    Click "Apply"
    Well done ;-)
You may also want to delete the wireless key from Keychain.

  • Printer won't print from one computer in network

We have a family network and for some reason on of the computers no longer can print.  The printer is a photosmart c7280 all-in-one.  I uninstalled the printer and driver and then downloaded a new driver and installed it to the computer.  The computer's network recognized the printer but nothing that is sent to the printer prints and i just get an error message but no reason why.  The printer is physically connected to a x-p computer and the computer in question is running Vista.  However, that shouldn't be a problem because this computer used to be able to print.  I just don't know what to check to make sure nothing has been turned on or turned off on the computer so that the printer doesn't recognize this printer any longer.
Before i downloaded the new driver, i deleted the old one and now I have just discovered that after i reinstalled the driver, there is not printer listed in the windows device manager.  The printer does show up in my network area tho and in the printer folder.  i have no idea what's going on.

Is the XP computer connected to the C7280 via USB?
How is the C7280 connected to the home network?
How is the Vista computer connected to the home network?  Can you open the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address?

  • Is there any way for me to reverse tether my ipad in order to yse my computer's network connection via usb?

I need to use an Ipad 2 running 5.1.1 without the use of ANY wireless data transfer, this means no bluetooth - 3g or Wi-Fi. I am aware of creating Wi-Fi hotspots, but there is absolutely no wi-fi option possible. Is this possible? If anyone could help me, it would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry but no, there is no way to use your computer's network connection via USB. If you cannot set up a WiFi network, either via a WiFi access point or through your computer, and cannot use 3G, there's no way I can think of that you will be able to get your iPad onto the Internet.
You can, of course, sync apps, media, documents, mail messages, address book contacts, etc.  from your computer to your iPad via the USB cable.
    Regards.

It's unlikely that your Mac has malware that is causing this.  It's possible that a Windows computer on your local network is infected with something.  It's also possible that, if you're using a wireless network with no password that you have a "squatter" (a nearby neighbor) using your network, whose computer is infected.  Lock down the network with WPA2 encryption using a good, strong password.  If that's not it, note that the IP addresses used by most home networks are allocated from a pool of addresses, and may change at any time.  So it's possible that someone who was infected with malware drew the attention of Google's algorithms, and then the IP addresses were reallocated and now you're using that IP address.  You can try rebooting your cable or DSL modem, as that can give you a new IP address, if it's given a different one from the pool.

In Firefox 3.6.4 and later the default connection settings have been changed to "Use the system proxy settings".<br />
You can find the connection settings in Tools > Options > Advanced : Network : Connection<br />

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Airport extreme connection problem after adding computer to network

just added new imac to my network and for some reason my older imac {dome desktop} seems to have stopped recognizing the AEBS. the older imac was hooked up to the AEBS by ethernet and when i moved it across the room it fails to read the AEBS. I had installed the airport card a few mos ago and i know it worked...although most recently was ethernet connected. I cannot be certain the new computer addition is even related but seems to be. Have checked all the airport utility settings and see no issues. I did fool around with some network sharing features on the imacs so ? if that can create issue sharing the AEBS. Interestingly the affected imac does detect the AEBS in the utility app but times out when attempting to connect. also think i may have done recent AEBS download upgrade and see threads related to that as poss issue . have reverted back to older AEBS software without success. new ibook and new imac detect/connect without problem. Any thoughts out there??? thx for any help.

Is your AEBS configured to create an 802.11g compatible network? It must be for the iMac G4 to connect.
What channel is the AEBS configured to use?
If the AirPort Extreme card in your iMac G4 is from the US it can only use the channels between 1 and 11. If your AEBS is from somewhere else in the world it can use other channels which are not available for use with equipment from the US.
If your AEBS is not using a channel between 1 and 11, change it and see if your iMac G4 can connect.

  • Deleting all print jobs on a computer with network accounts

In a school environment, we are using a network server with individual student accounts. Is there a way to delete all print jobs for all users on a given computer? I can reset print system and it only clears the print jobs for that single user.

System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > Print
    Click: Open Print Queue
You should be able to delete print jobs from there.

  • Multiple Instances of Same Computer on Network

I am having an issue with my MacBook Pro. When I open my finder it shows the same computer 14 times under shared.  I only have one computer on the network. I tried to include a screenshot of the problem but I couldn't get the picture to upload.
I am running OS X 10.10 and I don't think this issue was happening before I upgraded.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Let me know if anybody needs more info.

Just got off the phone with Apple Support and they said this is a known issue and will be addressed in future updates

  • Computer loses network connectivity with HP Photosmart Premium All In One C309a software installed

I am having an issue where my computer (Window XP Media Edition SP3) will loose all network connectivity after some variable amount of time when my HP Photosmart Premium All In One C309a drivers and software are installed. I cannot access the internet or other computers on my network from the affected computer until it is rebooted. When I uninstall the drivers and software, I do not encounter the loss of network connectivty. When I reinstall, the problem starts again. Within 24 hours, I will lose network connectivity requiring a restart. I have the software and drivers installed on another computer running Windows XP Professional SP3 without problems. Both computers are connected via ethernet cable to the network. The printer is connect to the network wirelessly. The printer works fine initiall from the affected computer but then after some variable amount of time computer seems to lose network connectivity. The driver installed is HP Photosmart C309a series (61.81.634.0). Thanks in advanced.

There are a few things to check.
First, is your security software getting in the way, here?  Disable it to test.
Second, have you downloaded this firmware patch for your printer?
Third, did you install this software?
    We'll go from there...

  • Computer drops network and subsequently can't be seen in itunes network

    I have a iMac G5 running on 10.5.8
When I first boot up my computer I can "see" my desktop's itunes library in other computer itunes (and on my iPhone and appleTV) [sharing the same wifi of course] and I can network between the computers.
However, after my wifi momentarily drops my signal I can no longer network unless I
    1) turn off and on my network in "System Preferences" and
    2) Turn off and on "Home Sharing"
I can still see my iMac G5 in "Screen Sharing" which seems ironic
Also my desktop iMac G5 is not Wifi.
It is super frustrating and I am hoping someone has a solution OR can help me write a script so when if happens I can remotely run a script to turn on and off my network and Home sharing to re"see" the system (does that make sense?)
    Thanks in advance,
    T

I had a similar problem not too long ago. My iPod would only work properly on one of my windows login-profiles. Weird problem, but after a while I followed the instructions in this guide: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
Check out the "Reinstall the COM interface for the iPod Service" section, and see if that helps.
At least it's worth a shot

  • One computer on network will not print.

I am using a HP LasterJet P2055dn network printer on a small office network that has 3 computers on it. All computer are wired. For some reason I can not get one of the printers to print. It is using XP. I have used all the HP utilities to try and fix the problem and they all say it should be working fine. Any suggestions?

OK, are your firewalls disabled (Windows & Securty Program)?
If so, you may want to delete the printer and then re-add it in Printers (Start, Printers).  Here is how (these are for XP, Vista 64 will be similar):
Verify that you can browse to the printer's internal web page by its IP address in a browser.
    1. Click "Start" button --> Printers.
    2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
    3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
    4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
    5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
    6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
    7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's IP address. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
    8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
    9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
    10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
    11. Click "Next"
    12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"

  • Can't find other computer on network

My laptop is connected to my wireless router (Linksys) by Ethernet. The connection is working because I can get the internet on my laptop just fine, I just updated my Office applications; but I can't see my other, desktop computer for file sharing. I have no idea how to connect with it. The laptop is running 10.4.11 and my desktop is 10.5.2. File sharing is turned on on both computers. How do I get my laptop to see my other computer?

My 2 Firewire drives are connected to my desktop Mac Pro. My laptop sees the desktop and one of the firewire drives but not the other one. Actually it's rather important that it finds the other external drive. Both drives are mounted okay on my desktop. I don't understand why the laptop when it's networked with the desktop can't see the 2nd firewire drive.
Personal web sharing is checked on both computers. I can't find any checkbox under Sidebar that says Show Network on/off. That's on my Mac Pro with 10.5.2. The Laptop has 10.4.11 and I can't find any Sidebar there under System Prefs. Actually I don't know what Sidebar is. Could someone explain?
