1 Monitor, 2 Computers

Hi,
I have a new G5 Dual 2.3 with a 20" LCD monitor. I am using it for digital photography. I also have an old Beige G3 that I need to keep around because the older camera that I still use from time to time connects via SCSI and requires OS9. The G3 does not have USB or Fire Wire. Is there a way to connect both computers to the new monitor and switch between the two with some sort of A-B switch??

To increase the speed one thing you can do is look at your selected encoding. You don't always want to choose the strongest one. It takes more CPU time on the VNC server and VNC client machine. For a LAN you are actually better off with Hextile, Zlib (Raw) or Zlib (Hextile) than the stronger compressions ZRLE and Tight (which are better over low bandwidth). G3's are slow machines for both clients and servers and so VNC is going to be slower on these no matter what you do. You might even consider going with RAW (no encoding) for these machines.
I don't know why the screen freezes when you run apps on the G3.

    Hello all,
    Is there any Java API to use for monitoring computers in network? to remote lock/unlock screen of any PC in network?
    It would be great if you could post a sample here. or just give some ideas.
    Thank you so much.

    Is there any Java API to use for monitoring computers in network?No. There isn't even a Java API to resolve the undefined concept 'in network'.

  • DELETE Windows Agents (agent monitored computers) via Powershell - HOW??

    It's really ridiculous that I have to ask this question, but as the shaft
    has clearly not given the countless scom customers of the world this information in an easy straightforward manner, I will ask the question.
    As bazillions of you have discovered through days of endless googling, there is NO easy way to simply delete windows agents (AGENT MANAGED COMPUTERS) from the scom console via powershell by using something as crazy and far out there as a ............cmdlet
    I could RING the necks of the shaft personnel who have not supplied the countless scom customers with this simple AND VERY NEEDED functionality - this is ground zero functionality, NOWHERE TO BE FOUND.  I did find old 2007 scripts, and scripts that
    just don't work, or poorly documented methods, etc.
    So I wanted to ask if anyone out there has a straightforward, WORKING solution to do the following:
    completely DELETE windows agents (AGENT MANAGED COMPUTERS) from the scom console using
    powershell AND  a provided text list file of servers   (I.E.  C:\TEMP\serverlist.txt  )
    On behalf of the entire world, thanks in advance.

    There is no need to install anything, these commands will work on any server that has SCOM installed.
    This is a powershell script.
    If you need to use this to read from a text file  with one server per line (let's say C:\temp\agentlist.txt ), what you could do is copy this into a .ps1 file :
    function global:Delete-SCOMAgent([System.String[]] $agentNames)
    $administration = (get-scommanagementgroup).getadministration()
    $agentManagedComputerType = [Microsoft.EnterpriseManagement.Administration.AgentManagedComputer]
    $genericListType = [System.Collections.Generic.List``1]
    $genericList = $genericListType.MakeGenericType($agentManagedComputerType)
    $agentlist = new-object $genericList.FullName
    foreach ($agentName in $agentNames)
    $agent = Get-SCOMAgent -dnshostname $agentname*
    $agentlist.add($agent)
    $genericReadOnlyCollectionType = [System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection``1]
    $genericReadOnlyCollection = $genericReadOnlyCollectionType.MakeGenericType($agentManagedComputerType)
    $agentReadOnlyCollection = new-object $genericReadOnlyCollection.FullName @(,$agentList)
    $administration.DeleteAgentManagedComputers($agentReadOnlyCollection)
    $agentlist = Get-Content C:\temp\agentlist.txt foreach ($agent in $agentlist) {
    Delete-SCOMAgent $agent }
    and then run this from a powershell prompt with the command ./nameofthescript.ps1

  • Image different on different monitors/computers.

    I recently edited some photos in PS that I'm having printed. I edited  them at home & they looked perfect. I used Windows 7 PSCS3, if that  matters. I went to school and used a computer in the library which is a  MAC. I opened the photos up and they appeared different? Now I'm  confused as to what they will look like when printed. I don't know if I  should alter them again or not.

    I think you may have scared BiiONiiC away
    Learning about color management is a good idea if you have the time, but it sounds more than likely that this is just a difference in gamma between the Windows 7 machine at home and the mac machine at school.
    If it's a school computer, the machine might be an older generation mac, and probably still uses a default display gamma of 1.8 instead of 2.2.  Try this on the MAC machine:
    Go to System Preferences > Displays > Color, then hit the [Calibrate...] button.
    Click [Continue], then select 2.2 Television Gamma and click [Continue], then select Native or D65 and click [Continue], then name the profile (or leave with default name) and click [Continue], then click [Done].
    See if this makes the images look better.

  • Dual HDMI monitor setup on mac mini late 2012

    Hey there
    i just purchased a late 2012 mac mini and two of these monitors:
    Amazon.com: AOC IPS i2367Fh 23-Inch Screen LED Monitor: Computers & Accessories
    They only have HDMI and VGA connectivity - my question is, whats the best way to setup these monitors? I take it i will want to stay away from the VGA and will need an HDMI adapter to thunderbolt?
    so, one monitor connected straight HDMI to HDMI and the 2nd monitor HDMI ---> HDMI/MiniDisplay port adaptor? Any recommendations for the adapters/cables? Not sure what if i need male/female ect.
    Thanks!

    Yes, yses  the HDMI out on the Mini for one monitor and a mini display port to HDMI for the other monitor.

    What software (programs) are in charge of displaying the images you are comparing? Are you comparing the images on the same monitor and computer?
    Different software may display the same image differently depending how it is color managed and if it can be color managed at all. Different monitors, computers, devices, outputs and etc, display the same color differently. The color management was designed to achieve consistent colors as much as possible on different outputs, but on each end this requires software and equipment with color management capabilities and users who know how to use correctly color managed images.
    Having the above limitations in mind, can you please explain what are you trying to achieve?

  • Agent fine but reports erros

    Good day.
    Scom is reporting errors on servers on the outer network.
    the servers a running fine, and all services are ok.
    but scom reports faults with aplications on this servers:
    The OpsMgr Connector connected to XXXXXXXX, but the connection was closed immediately after authentication occurred.  The most likely cause of this error is that the agent is not authorized to communicate with the server, or the server has not received
    configuration.  Check the event log on the server for the presence of 20000 events, indicating that agents which are not approved are attempting to connect.
    and on scom servers:

    Hi Paulo,
    By default, SCOM/Operations Manager will reject manually installed agents automatically.  You need to change the setting in the Administration Pane -> Settings -> Security to
    “Review new manual agent installations in pending management.”   Once this is ticked, you should see the agents come up in Pending Management within a few minutes, where you can approve them.
    As a security best practice, It is not suggested enabling “Automatically approve new manually installed agents”.  As the administrator, you should always verify each agent when it is manually installed (especially by someone else).
    In addition you said the error occured on the outer network, do you monitor computers that belong to another domain or workgroup?
    If that is the case, you may check whether your certificate is expired or not. Please also look into operation manager event logs to get more details about the issue.
    Here is a blog about how to monitor non-domain members:

  • Time Sync - DHCP Failover - 1 minute difference - How to avoid problems?

    I have 2 WIn2012R2 servers with DHCP installed, domain members and clocks synched via AD normal operation
    I´ve configured the first DHCP Server and i´m worried about a possible problem, because the DHCP Servers have to be, almost-perfect time sync to operate properly
    Can I configure a scheduled task to regularly force the time sync ?
    If yes, using "net time" or "w32tm"?
    "...If the time difference between the servers is greater than one minute, the failover setup process will halt with a critical error
    instructing the administrator to synchronize the time on the servers...."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh831385.aspx

    Well the built-in sync mechanism should be enough. Most of the time, as long as the machines have the same time source (DCs in your case) they shouldn't drift more than one minute apart.
    You can use w32tm /monitor /computers:<dhcp1>,<dhcp2> to verify the current time synchronisation remotely. Or even w32tm /stripchart if you want to see something more graphic with the current offset on the servers.
    Ultimately, w32tm /resync is the way to force sync.
    Why not
    enabling the log on the w32tm service for couple of days/weeks and check if you see anything wrong?
    Are they virtual machines? If no, nothing to add :)

  • Management Servers in untrusted domains

    Hi,
    I am planning a deployment of SCOM 2012 R2 and have several questions regarding the appropriate placement of management and gateway servers.
    The environment has multiple untrusted domains and need to monitor both Windows and Linux computers on both sides of the firewall. The main domain has 1500 Windows computers and 1300 Linux computers. The untrusted domain has 250 Windows servers and
    450 Linux servers.
    It is understandable that gateway servers are utilized to communicate across the firewall.
    The questions are:
    1. Is it possible to locate one or more management servers in the untrusted domain for the Linux servers and another management server to work with the Windows servers and have those management servers in the untrusted domain communicate through the firewall
    via gateway servers to the databases in the main domain?
    2. If it is not possible to have management servers in the untrusted domain communicate via the gateways; how many gateways would be required to relay to the management servers in the main domains management group?
    3. With the number of Linux servers in the untrusted domain is it better to install a separate management group there?
    Thanks, for any advice in dealing with the above scenario.
    --SG

    Hi There,
    Microsoft recommends you to place all the management servers in the same data center so if 1 goes down the other comes to know about it asap.
    If you place it in another location then fail over may happen late.
    Also you have mentioned to place the management servers in another domain, Which is possible but you need to have trust and permission stuff which is a very hectic work.
    So i would suggest you to place gateways as it will help in compression if the network bandwidth is low between the domains and sites.
    And based on the MS's Sizing and management options a Gateway server can manage 100 Unix boxes for a dedicated gateway server and 500 per management server on the same domain.
    So based on your situation as below:
    1300 Linux - Same domain
    450 - Different domain
    3 Management servers for the main domain for dedicated Linux
    1 MS For Windows Agent monitoring.
    Totally 4 in a management group for the same domain one.
    1 Separate management group with 1 MS will be fine for dedicated Linux monitoring for the 450 servers in the other domain.
    If you want to still place gateways then you will need to place 5 Gateway servers which is difficult to manage.
    Operations Manager supports the following number of monitored items.
    Monitored item
    Recommended limit
    Simultaneous Operations consoles
    50
    Agent-monitored computers reporting to a management server

  • Converting old server time check batch file to PowerShell

    Hi Guys,
    I have batch file that checks the offset between our time servers and two external ones.  This batch file works in XP, but not in Windows 7 pro.  Where it breaks down is it doesn't display the offset correctly.  Can this batch be converted
    to Powershell, so that it would be compatible?  Here is the batch code:
    CLS
    @ECHO OFF
    @ECHO.
    @ECHO.
    @ECHO ************************* Time Checking Script *************************
    @ECHO *** Check the offset between government time server, our internal
    @ECHO *** time server and domain controllers.
    @ECHO.
    @ECHO *** time.nist.gov:
    @w32tm /monitor /computers:time.nist.gov /domain:cooley-dickinson.org |FIND "offset"
    @ECHO.
    @ECHO *** time.cooley-dickinson.org:
    @w32tm /monitor /computers:tock.usno.navy.mil /domain:cooley-dickinson.org |FIND "offset"
    @ECHO.
    PAUSE
    @ECHO.
    @Net Time \\server1 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server2 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server3 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server4 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server01 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server02 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server03 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server04 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server05 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server06 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server07 | find "Current"
    @Net Time \\server08 | find "Current"
    Below is the output we get from the batch file in Windows 7.  Where it says delayoffset, is normally where the offset is in seconds.
    *** time.nist.gov:
    Analyzing:Analyzing:Analyzing:Analyzing:Analyzing:delayoffset from DC01.coole
    y-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    *** time.cooley-dickinson.org:
    offset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    delayoffset from DC01.cooley-dickinson.org
    The rest of the script displays the date/time for individual servers correctly.  If this could be converted to powershell, it would be a whole lot easier to deal with.
    Thank you!
    Larry

    Hi Bill,
    My main concern is getting a means script-wise to mimic the functionality of the batch I posted.  The syncing has never been an problem for our engineers (that I know of).  The batch is but a task we can only run on xp, so I wanted to be able to
    try to migrate the task over to windows 7.  If the task is outdated and unnecessary, as I told jrv, I'll suggest that it is to the sys admin.  To me it is a scripting question, I'm a programmer at heart and look to find ways of automating tasks with
    code.  I'm new to Powershell and not experienced with system architecture design.
    Thank you!
    Larry
    Again - there is no way to do what you are asking. w32tm is the only utility that matches time but you are not using it correctly.  You are reporting the offset but not the delay.  The only accurate way to test sync quality is by running a tape.
    This is a function of w32tm.   THe tape will show you the variance over time.  The other way I have used is to set the time service to generate a log and scan the log.
    Win32_UTCTime will tell you the time at remote servers but it cannot tell you the network delay.
    If you are only interested in matching seconds then you can use it as well as the w32tm query that returns network time.  These can be extracted and converted into time objects.
    As an exercise to learn PowerShell this could be useful.  Just capture the output of w32tm and parse it in PowerShell.
    See the "Learning" resources on this site for examples.
    You should also use your search engine to learn more about what is available and how it is used.
    A simple search for me returned this:
    http://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Get-Network-NTP-Time-with-07b216ca
    There are many more things available including GUIs that report in real time.
    You desktop guys need to get out more often.  Learn to use computers.  They can be very helpful.  Stop plating with hardware.  Desktop support will be gone within a few years as we move to the cloud.  Only application support will
    remain.  The classic PC and member server are pretty much obsolete.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • View scale apparently incorrect

    I have used Illustrator since AI 7 but have recently begun using CS3 on a new Macbook Pro.
    This is such a ridiculous issue which I have never experienced before that I reckon there must be something I've forgotten but if so it beats me what it is.
    As we all know, Command-1 is the shortcut for Actual Size (100%), I never use the menu for zooms. However, currently the screen image is clearly NOT 100% but something around 75%. Actual Size is checked in the View menu and 100% is displayed in the title bar and at the bottom of the window.
    I check the document setup to make sure that I didn't make a mistake there and it's as it should becorrect size in the correct units.
    I use the menu instead of the shortcut and the result is the same. The image is definitely NOT 100%.
    What have I forgotten guys?

    Monitor dot pitch is all over the place these days.
    On my Windows machine, AI's rulers view at about 75% "actual size" at 100%. But set Acrobat to "100%" and the zoom measures about 133%.
    On my little Acer netbook, with its 8.7" screen, of course,
    everything is smaller at "100%". On the newer Acer netbooks, everything will be slightly larger, because those screens measure 10" diagonal, but have the same number of pixels.
    Photoshop, of course, display of so-called 100% means one screen pixel for every image pixel--so "100%" is a different size for different resolution images.
    It's all much ado about nothing. It's just a matter of what zoom level is zoomed to when you select "100%". No matter how Adobe or any other software vendor sets that zoom, it would still differ on different monitors/computers. I personally
    don't want Illustrator using 96 screen pixels to display an inch of the page. I certainly don't want my netbook to display "actual size" either.
    I dare say that your never having "encountered" this before is really more a matter of simply not having
    noticed it before--which kinda supports that it's really nothing to fret over.

  • Does pavilion p6670t have an inside lock?

    Hi forum friends:
    I bought couple of pavilion p6000 desktops. One of it works great but after I opened the case and then put the cover back everything works except for monitor: No signal to monitor.
    I reopened the case again and found two locks  A and B (5022-8046, 15051-T1-REV A) . I thought that maybe I moved the lock position when I open and reopen the case. Am I wrong? Any advice will be thankful.

    Here are the specs and configurable options for the HP Pavilion p6670t CTO Desktop Computer and its MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E) motherboard. Based on the specs, this model doesn't have any "locks", anything that would sense if the case was opened, or anything that would prevent the computer from working if the case was opened.
    Please open the case and reseat the memory, the expansion cards, and make sure that all connectors are also firmly seated. If this doesn't work, verify the computer and monitor are working properly by swapping them with other monitors / computers.

  • Strange sleep behavior with iMac

    I have a very strange problem where my iMac wakes up from sleep mode when I shut off, turn on, or unplug my Sony AV reciever from the power outlet.
    I am using the power button on the front of the receiver, and I have the infrared sensor on my iMac disabled in System Preferences.
    The AV system is connected to a power strip behind my TV, and the iMac is connected to a separate power strip behind my desk. Both strips are on the same circuit in my bedroom, but otherwise are not connected to each other.
    I do not have this problem when I switch power to the lights or my TV, it is only the receiver that is causing this problem.
    Does anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening?

    Two things that I can think of...
    1. Are you using Snow Leopard, and if so does the AV unit have any WiFi capabilities?
    2. You are on to something with the power sensitivity of the iMac, I have similar issues with my 24" iMac when there is a slight power blink at my place. When some spikes occur, my iMac will wake from sleep. I also have the same issue if I plug my vacuum cleaner into an outlet that is on the same circuit, if the iMac is asleep it wakes up as soon as I turn on the vacuum.
    FYI, I solved my wake problem by running a whole new circuit (installed new breaker in panel) to my room (office) specifically for all my computer stuff... Printers, scanners, monitors, computers, external HDD, routers, hubs, switches, modems. All these tend to add up and you take the possibility of overloading the circuit. Same with TV, cable box, AV equipment etc.

  • Getting your wireless router to work with the mini computers and their small monitors

    I have one on the new Dell Mini computers.  I purchased the Wireless-G Broadband Router model #WRT54G2 and had the most difficult time getting Network Magic installed on the Mini because the monitor was too small for the required resolution (1024x768) - this was trying to install via the CD that came with the router.
    The solution to this problem:
    1)  Use the CD to install the Router and Network Magic on your desktop (or wherever you are hardwired to the internet).
    2)  Open Network Magic; go to "Status" and download the newest version of Network Magic to your desktop.
    3)  DO NOT use the CD to install Network Magic on the Mini.  Instead - Unplug your hardwire connection from your desktop and connect it to your Mini.  Go to "linksysbycisco.com/us/en/support/WRT54G2/download" and install the newest version of Network Magic on your Mini.
    4)  Replug your hardwire connection into your desktop.
    5)  You can now use Network Magic from your desktop to add the mini to the network.  Go to "Tasks" and then "Add a device."  You will be able to follow the directions at this point.
    The only other issue I found was naming the network.  I had to name the desktop and the mini the same name otherwise it wouldn't connect.
