10.1.2 Lost Colour Again!

Yeah! Back to the user-horrific grey side bar. I got my colour back by downloading a fix for the last update. Anyone got a fix for this one?

Fixed it myself. But not telling!
Yeah! Thanks a lot everyone....NOT!

How can I cancel ICloud back for the stolen phone, as I cannot delete the stolen phone backup (says that backup is being in use) and this is keeping memory occupied in the Cloud and I cannot back-up the other devices.

  • Lost colour in burned DVD

I have made over 10 DVDs from iMovie Projects, successfully on my Dual 2.5GHz PowerPC G5 running OS 10.3.6, with iMovie and iDVD both 4.0.1. This week I burned a small (13 minute run time) iMovie to DVD. When I play it through my Sony CMT-M7 00DVD player into my Sony TV, it plays the sound fine but I have lost colour! This is a first. As soon as the disc loads, the colour in the ‘DVD player’ screen goes to B/W. My tv preferences dialogue boxes show colour on the same screen as the B/W movie. It plays colour fine in my neighbour’s machine! Other DVDs I have made play in colour. Any suggestions about some changed setting that I should use on my mac when burining, would be appreciated.

Can you confirm you are using iDVD 7 from iLife 8?
This will not run on Tiger, it requires Leopard.
If you are running iDVD 6 you are in the wrong forum, but we will carry on here!
Previewing in iDVD is not the same as previewing the final version prior to burning.
To preview the final version, without wasting another DVD blank, go to File menu and click on Save as Disk Image.
This creates the final version and does all the rendering etc short of the actual burn.
If you open DVD Player you can play that Disk Image as though it was a DVD.
If everything works, only then burn to a DVD. In this case use Disk Utility to burn the DVD - or better still, invest in Toast.
As for the audio drop-outs, are you sure you are using AIFF files that are not DRM copy protected?

  • Help, I've lost Help (again)

    Hello
I'm sorry, I've posted this question before, but seem to have lost the replies now these Discussion Boards have been redesigned (very nice Apple, thanks).
Basically when I launch Help in Finder, nothing happens. A window opens with nothing in it.
Does anyone have the link which tells me which files I need to delete to bring it back again? I've tried seaching the Forum but aren't getting anywhere. And if you can tell me how to stop it happening regularly, then even better :-))
    Thanks in advance.

    2. Trash the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.helpui folder.
In some cases, apparently the OS will complain that this folder is in use & won't let you trash it, even if Help Viewer isn't running. If so, try renaming it instead, to "com.apple.old.helpui" for example. After log out or restart a replacement will be created & then you can trash the old one.
I have no idea why this works when the straight-to-trash method doesn't, but it is the Apple-suggested remedy for Help Viewer problems of this nature.

  • Lost music again!!!

    Hi All,
Right I have managed to find the apporiate Quicktime (without an upgrade) and now have itunes working again.
However, my music is gone of course
When I store - available downloads, nothing happens, when i plug in my iphone, no music copies back now i do have a back up of some of my purchases, however the more recent stuff I have purchased hasnt downloaded, i think my mac is causing me too many problems now a days and almost feels like a PC.
I am tempted to just go back to a PC.
Grrr.... Any suggestions please anything.  Thanks

    Hi Sarah34 -
You're NOT alone.  The same thing happens to me routinely.  I may not be able to specifically solve your problem, but I can tell you what I've learned:
    1.  You can't just move files with "Finder" in iTunes like you do with other data elsewhere on your machine.  iTunes is a database unto itself, and if you ever change the directory structure or file location with Finder, then iTunes is "lost" and can't find its files.  The good news is that your music isn't actually "gone," it's still on your drive but iTunes just can't see it.
    2.  Any change you want in iTunes should be made from within iTunes.  That way, the iTunes database knows where the music is.
    3.  The way that most people fix your problem is to open the iTunes preferences panel and then go to the "Advanced" tab.  There is where you'll find the path where iTunes expects to find your media.  Correct that path and iTunes should find your media again.
    4.  I agree with you wholeheartedly that iTunes feels more like a PC than any other part of the Mac experience.  Hopefully iTunes 11, which is supposed to release in the next few days, will fix that.
If you keep having problems, you can call AppleCare or you can make a free appointment at your local "Genius Bar" where they have a fairly good track record of being able to not only fix problems like yours but also of being able to explain to you why it happened in the first place.
    Good luck!

  • Lost identity, again...

This has happened so often that I lost count, but again my user name is messed up in the Premiere Pro forums.
My user name now looks like: Harm Millaard-qz01ws. My profile is messed up as well and my picture disappeared. It always happens during weekends  and resetting it to normal will usually only be accomplished by tuesday after I have complained.
Often this also means that counters are reset as well and that the new messages on a forum now include everything that I have already read.
When can you get rid of this Jive crap. It is bad that your servers are down so often and cause serious delays and posting problems, but this forum software is so crappy , one can almost say the only reliable thing about it is that it causes problems with fantastic reliabilty. Not something to be proud of. Maybe you ought to have a look at the forum software used in your own pre-release community.

Sometimes it just fixes itself. I was away over the weekend and cannot take any credit for fixing it.
We are not sure we believe you, John. You have said that a number of times now, first to me more than a year ago. That excuse is becoming a bit threadbare.

  • Lightning Forks And Other Content Items Suddenly Lost Colour! Why?

I was playing around with the 2 Lightning Forks which appear as blue and white.
I had enlarged them and slowed them down to 50% and all was going well.
Suddenly they lost their colour and appeared just white against the black background. I tried Undo several times but could not get the colour back. At the time I may have hit one or more keys accidentally but can't be sure.
Then I added a new fork but that too was white.
Different items from the Content were added and so were they!
The only way I could get the colour back was to quit Motion and start a new project.
As I was just experimenting nothing was lost but if I had been in mid-project it could have been serious.
Any idea what I did wrong?

if I have selected top only look at the alpha channel ( by pressing the shift key and the 'A' key at the same time) or maybe the Red channel ( by pressing the shift key and the 'R' key at the same time), I can get back to the showing full colour by pressing the shift key and the the 'C' key at the same time.

  • I am having trouble with my Mac Mini's ethernet connection.   Defining a new network interface shows no ethernet adaptor.  Reloading SL from DVD repaired.  But SL update lost ethernet again.  Will Lion Fix?

I am having trouble with my mac mini ethernet.  It had been working for weeks after an update to SL 10.6.8.
Once it went out and i repaired it by defining a new connection from System Preferences ->Network->(left panel service, +).
But yesterday, after a power up.  my ethernet was not working again. I tried this old trick to repair it, but the interface choices
listed for '+' a new service did not include Ethernet any more.  And the Utilities->System Profiler->Ethernet Cards shows
    no ethernet available.
As a last ditch effort i reloaded my original SL from DVD.  (I think it was version 10.6.4 but i could be mistaken on the version).
The ethernet worked!  But KeyNote wasn't going to work because apparently the version i purchased depends on 10.6.8.
So I upgraded again to SL 10.6.8 (Plus some other updates like AirPort which i don't use).
Now the Ethernet is not working again.  I see the same symptoms as before with the Ethernet seeming not installed.
Is this a problem seen by others?
Would going to Lion fix the problem?
Could AirPort actually be the culprit and not SL?
If i stay with my original SL, would i need to repurchase a version of KeyNote for the older version of SL?

    Have you reset the SMC?
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
While you're at it, resetting the PRAM won't hurt anything and 'might' help is SMC reset didn't work (PRAM does some port control):
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
Something else you might try .... you don't say how you're updating to 10.6.8, however, if you're using Software Update, you might try downloading the 10.6.8 combo update, which contains all updates to 10.6. Sometimes, Software Update doesn't work quite right, and installing the combo update fixes that. Download the update from Apple's download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/ , using Disk Utility repair permissions, apply the combo update, then repair permissions again.

  • Bluetooth - lost connection (again)

There have been many posts on this and I have even offered advice on it before, but I still occasionally lose my Bluetooth connection on start-up for no obvious reason and wondered whether anyone has finally come up with a cure for this. I used to think that it was because I had a USB-1 hub connected, but even after upgrading to USB-2 it still happens. Basically everything shuts down as per normal, but when I restart on some occasions I have no Bluetooth connection (squiggly line across icon). Luckily I only use my Bluetooth keyboard and using the wired mouse I just have to shutdown and restart and all is back to normal. However, I have no idea why this happens. I used to think that it was linked to using things plugged into the hub and the order in which I turned them off before shutting down, but it does it even when I've had a session when nothing plugged into the hub has been used. It's not a huge problem as a shutdown and restart sorts it out, but it would be more of a drag if I was using both Bluetooth keyboard and mouse and had no USB mouse.
    Any ideas?

Neil, I have had the same problem, Apple informed me that they know about it, and the fix is simply to restart, as you have found out. The problem is intermittent, sometimes the Bluetooth icon disappears on restart, sometimes it's there. No rhyme nor reason, but just one of those quirks one has to live with. It has nothing to do with hubs or the like, it just happens.

  • Audio Reconnect Mismatch with Moved Project a.k.a Lost Sleep Again in Post.

Hello. Thought this might be helpful regarding reconnecting media and leads to a major problem with FCP (from my view) in how the software designates things. I hope this saves headaches for another who might run up against the same problem.
    Situation:
I am currently helping out on an hour-long documentary project with another editor. As such, I have been given a copy of the media on a FW drive and the project itself. The other editor’s original media resides on a RAID system so “Reconnect Media” is necessary to cut some of the acts. The video project media has been captured with a Blackmagic card and converted to edit in it’s native 23.976 in DV formatted (offline) files. However, this has no bearing on the audio files as we will see...
    Problem:
I have opened the project and of course the Reconnect Media menu comes up immediately (as expected) asking me to re-link the media. The Video portions link up fine and play out correctly. Now there are also imported aiff voice-over files and music which resided in the project bins which need to be re-linked for the sequences to play out correctly.
If try to reconnect them I get a “File Attribute Mismatch: Media Start and End” error. If I choose to continue, it changes the time code Media Start, End and Duration of the files in the project. Obviously this will not do since it throws off the sequences and any editing I do when sent back to the other editor for conform. Audio files have no TC designation (QT shows N/A Frame rate) as far as I know. After trying out a few things I changed my Easy Setup to NTSC 23.98. After doing that, I could import the file.
(NOTE: This is not an issue with the Video/Audio files which will maintain their TC Base Rate no matter what type of project they are imported into, no matter what my Easy setup is.)
To make things worse, let’s say I have been initially working in a PAL project (for example) initially and have imported the audio V.O. files and make a sound edit for the some U.K. client to review (or something). The TC Base time code will be designated 25 since we have a different project frame rate. Then, I go to work on the other project. I now cannot re-link the files since there is a mismatch. Even the workaround does not work. I am seemingly screwed. The next workaround is to be to close the PAL project or I cannot correctly open the V.O. material in the other project. Even if I delete the V.O. clips references in the PAL project, as long as it is open it screws up the re-connect in the other.
I could lay the audio to tape or convert to something that has T.C. before import but I cannot expect every editor or project group I work with to do this. I'm just a freelancer.
    Final Comments of Frustration...
I truly wish FCP had a more descriptive import tab when reconnecting data allowing the user more understanding of the process and control. As it stands now, it is very frustrating, potentially causing a world of hurt when projects are being handled my multiple editors on different machines which may have various setups designated. I can only wonder if this would FUBAR shared media projects. Fixing the skip feature would be nice too (highlight multiple files and skip function please instead of skip click, click, click, beach ball etc.).
Similar issues? Opinions of how to improve this? Rebuttals?
Macbook Pro 2.16G Intel Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Thanks Tom for your input. That is an interesting solution and helps get it sorted out for the project.
However, I would have thought that an existing project (and its existing clips) would override a project preset. My inital thought was I had been given a different versioning of the audio. I telephoned the other editor and according to him, nothing had changed in the project or the media. It was difficult to track down the problem.
I only marked it as helpful (sorry) since this seems more of a workaround for a design flaw in the FCP software. Apple should consider creating a more thorough dialogue box in the re-connect process that would shed more light on the conflict between offline clip and media. In the FCP manual, it states there is a potential of frame rate mismatches but with audio this isn't the case. It should take into account the audio TC rate that was designated originally to the clip (I would think) and warn of a project setup conflict.
Anyways, thanks again. Your expertise is great in your books and on the forums. Now I can get back to editing.

  • My iMac has lost colour depth

I recently had to move my iMac some distance, and when it arrived the colour depth had dramatically reduced, so that colours were blocky and text hard to read. I tried altering the colour configuration but nothing made any difference, so I'm left thinking it must be a hardware issue. The computer is a late 2009 21.5 inch iMac.

    1. System Preferences >  Flash Player > Advanced >  Delete  All
         Press the "Delete All" button
         Install Adobe Flash Player.

Download it first. Click Safari in the menubar and select “Quit Safari”.
Follow the prompts and install it.
        Restart computer. Relaunch Safari.
    2.  Allow  Plug-ins
        Safari > Preferences > Security

  • I lost project files, found them and lost them again...

How do you recover lost project files in Aperture?  I had them one day and they were gone the next day.

So when you looked in the library tab of the Inspector the projects and albums were not there or do you mean when you looked in a project the images weren't there?
What did the Best Buy associate to to recover what was lost? Knowning that would make this a lot easier.

  • I had the orange, rectangular FF button in the top left of the home page & lost it again HELP!

What is so strange about the phrase "rectangular, orange Firefox button"??? It is a relatively new feature and you can access several functions by clicking on it....I had it on my window...now it no longer is there....what other details can I give????

    Hi ellsler13,
You should take a look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-do-i-get-firefox-button Firefox Button] Knowledge Base article. It will show you how to turn the button back on. Don't worry, nothing is broken. It is just a setting.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Ever since I downloaded the new update ios6 I've lost service again and again. Help?

I will be on my Iphone4 texting someone or calling them and randomly it'll lose service then take about a minute to get it back and it does this multiple times throughout the day ever since the ios6 update came out.
I never had any problems with it untill now. Help?

I've tried turning it on and off, put it into airplane mode on and off, ive reset it to the default factory settings and yes i reseated the SIM card. I'm not sure, but I havn't a problem up till now.

  • Lost speed again

I've recently had my noise margin reset which returned my connection speed back to normal. I had not noticed any issues with my broadband connection prior to me being profiled. Over the last few days though my connection has been dropping a lot,  sometimes 3 or 4 times an hour.  This has obviously resulted in my connection speed dropping away and now it is fluctuating between just over 1000Kbps and 2500Kbps. The longest ive seen my connection time over the last few  days is about 3.5 hours.
What can cause this? My line might have some low level noise but it's constant and smooth not crackling. I don't actually know if it is noisy or if that is what it should sound like.
Should i be starting my request for support here or on the phone to bt?

in order for the forum members to help please can you post the adsl stats from your router you may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or if HH4/5 then go to troubleshooting then logs and you are looking for 2 line together when hub last connected to internet and they will show your connection speed and noise margin or if netgear enter 192.168.0.1). Then run  btspeedtester  (MAC users may have problems). when first test completes then run diagnostic test and post the results ( do not reset the router).
are you connected directly via a filter to the NTE5 master or test socket or to somewhere else? Is the master the only phone socket in your home?
Have you tried the quiet line test? - dial 17070 option 2 - should hear nothing - best done with a corded phone. if cordless phone you may hear a 'dull hum' which is normal
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem
