10.4.2 iBook DI-524

The wireless connection from my 1-month-old iBook (10.4.2 installed) has ceased to function. Internet Connect says I am connected to my local network (D-Link DI-524 router), but with zero signal strength. Once every 15-20 tries to connect, a page loads--for about 2-3 seconds. Twice (in maybe 100 tries), a page partially loaded, froze, then posted the familiar "site.xyz.com cannot be found" message.
The problem is not with the router--a second iBook on the network, plus, my G4 desktop, are running just fine. The second iBook is running 10.3.4, and the G4 is running 10.3.8 (I just reverted to it after Mail in 10.4.2 ceased to work).
I appeal for help, but I fear this is a(nother) 10.4.2 problem.

Did it cease to function right after the 10.4.2 update and/or Airport 4.2 update? If so, it may well be the update that caused the problem. On the other hand if you iBook worked for days to weeks after the update and then stopped being able to connect, I'd suspect the iBook's Airport interface has failed.

  • *** Can't connect a d-link DL-524 router...

I've been using my iBook and my airport express base station to connect to the 'net no problem, but I would like to incorporate a DL-524 as my router because I'd like to move my airport express near my stereo to have it there to receive streamed music from my iBook to the airport express.
The problem is, I can't seem to get the DL-524 set-up. I'm not sure if I need to do something I'm not aware of in the settings, but it keeps saying that there was an error connecting to the internet when I try to set-up the DL-524. I there a way in OS X to reset everything and start from scratch when setting up a wireless network? I'm wondering if my mac is confused about the connections?
Can anyone suggest how I can get my DL-524 working so I can move my airport express and stream my music?
    Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately I'm still unable to connect. I'm sorry to be high-maintenance but could you describe in a little more detail how I can set this up? I really appreciate any help anyone can give.
Just to re-itereate, I would like to use my DL-524 route the connect my iBook to the internet and use my airport express plug in my living room just to stream music wirelessly from the iBook...
    Thanks in advance!

  • Help diagnosing a possibly compromised iBook

This is a repost of a previous question, with (I believe) all domains and e-mail addresses replaced.
I recently received a message from the network manager at my workplace telling me that he'd logged a number of warning about spam related to my IP address. I'm concerned that my Mac may be compromised, and am hoping that someone can help me figure out what is going on and just how bad this is.
Rather than try to list all the things I've gone through in trying to diagnose the problem, I'm basically just going to put some snippets of the log files he e-mailed me, and then hopefully someone can guide me along in the diagnosis process.
This is from what seems to be a postfix log (my username is the username for company e-mail, companymailserver is the name of the mail server, and my.ip.address appears to be an IP address assigned to me while using my home ADSL connection). I live in Morocco, which explains the .ma extension.

I installed Little Snitch to try to monitor any outgoing connections; I haven't noticed over port 25, but noticed a bunch of traceroute requests to IP addresses I don't recognize. I block the requests, as I can't figure out what application might be requesting the traceroutes, but I don't know if that was actually related. It's also possible that whatever is sending the spam is either a) coming from an application that Little Snitch approves of, like Mail, or b) somehow this is not actually my computer causing the problem (please please please).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated; I thought that I was fairly security conscious, and this worries me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Greg Westin

I don't think it's a problem to post this. Is there some reason I should be concerned, other than letting people know that I do in fact have Microsoft products installed? At any rate, here it is, with my computer's name and my username replaced:

  • RE: iBook Network Connection Query

    Hi
I wonder if anyone can help me here. I have a Power Mac G5 which is linked to a wireless router (D-Link Dl-524 802.11g Wireless Broadband Router) by ethernet. My iBook G4 until today connected fine wirelessly, as did ATV and its all been running perfect ever since I set it up.
Today I got a second hand ipod touch off ebay and initially I could not get this to connect to my home network. I resolved this by one of the following (not sure which did the trick):
    - reset router,
    - reset ipod network setting
    - installed firmware update (though not sure if this worked)
    - changed password
All was working well, then I noticed the iBook was getting the message "there was an error connecting to PMG5" PMG5 being the network name. Working through the configuration assistant under network in system prefs it said the password was invalid. I then tried to manually mirror the DHCP info displayed on my ipod network settings under TCP/IP and "Using DHCP" but got the same message. The password entry is correct I am sure of that. All software up to date too.
I note that D-Link don't make the router I have - could this be something ? Is there a limit to how many periferal devices I can have seeing the router (its been two - iBook and ATV until today), though even if I take the ipod off the network the iBook still won't connect.
Well sorry for the lengthy post. I'd be very grateful for some advice if anyone has anything ??
    Many Thanks

    for the router?

on the router or your network?

    Shouldn't make a difference

There might be a limit, but you are not even close to it.
I would suggest double checking the network name and password again. The network name must be exactly the same case, and make sure you're using the password for the network and not the router.
When you reset the router, did you log into it, or use the power or reset button on it? I'm assuming you checked all the settings after it was reset, turned on the wireless, and the encryption type matches. You might try going to the TCP/IP panel on the iBook and click on renew DHCP lease. Also repair permissions on the iBook.
If you can't resolve it, you can always log into the router from the iBook and set everything up again. It might be faster than troubleshooting.
    Hope something works for you.

  • How To Connect My PB To An iBook...

My cousin just bought a new ibook - I'll be going to over to help him set it up and it would be nice to transfer some of the family pics / files I have on my powerbook over to his machine to load up into iphoto etc.
I'd like to find a way of connecting the two 'books so that both are still useable... I'm hoping that simply connecting the two via a firewire cable will create some sort of mini-network?... but that sounds to easy...
I'm trying to avoid 'target disk mode' as this means one of the 'books will have to be inactive... he currently hasn't gone live on broadband - although it is imminent...
If anyone has any advice / help it would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

"I'm hoping that simply connecting the two via a firewire cable will create some sort of mini-network?... but that sounds to easy..."
But it is that easy. Network the iBook and PowerBook via IP over FireWire:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh1845.html
    PowerBook G4 (15 FW800); 17 iMac G5; Mac mini 1.42   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

  • What do i buy to hook up my ibook....

what do i buy to hook up my ibook g4 into my tv using the A/V plug??
do i hook up the --(Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter) to my ibook then hook up the --(Apple AV Cable for iBook) to the adapter??....
    thanks for the help...

You need to use the Apple Video Adapter M9109G/A to get a video signal.
Then you just need a male-to-male video patch cable to connect the adapter to your TV.

  • How can I stop shared files in iBooks being highlighted by different family members?

I Have family sharing set up which is great for sharing apps and music however I have a problem with iBooks. My wife and I both use ePub files which a re study material. The great thing about these is that we can highlight and add notes to files.
THe problem is that our individual highlights and notes are shared with each other. So I get my wife's highlights and notes on top of mine.
We ha ve tried clearing all ePub files from my wife's ipad, and only syncing them to mine. She then downloads her own copy of the ePub file. So one has the original which is on our iMac and one has another copy. This makes no difference as iTunes recognises them as the same file.
We'd be happy to switch off family sharing for iBooks to prevent this but that doesn't seem possible. It's all or nothing. I can't turn off family sharing completely as my wife will lose access to our shared music library.
Does oes anyone have any suggestions? Basically, we want to share music and apps through family sharing but have a separate collection of books even though those books might be ide bridal before we annotate them.

Have you tried going into the Preferences on iBooks on your Mac and unchecking the option for syncing across devices?

  • How can I share iBooks authored by me using iBook Author on 2 different iPads synced to two different computors? Both iPads have different iTunes accounts.

I am in the process of authoring an eBook using iBook Author.  The project is a work in progress and I want to share the draft with other collegues.  We each have our own iPads synced with other computers and we have different iTunes acounts.  I attempted to preview the book on the new iPad, but the iPad did not come up in the available device window.
Am I missing something or is there a way around this?

  • How can I transfer my iPad iBooks to iTunes library?

I'm having a problem getting my iPad books into my mac and I really could use some help. The situation is, my mac got stolen a few months ago and I finally could get a new one. I also have an iPad, where I had thankfully stored all my iBooks. They're backuped to iCloud cause I could restore them to said iPad (using iOS 6) just using my Apple id. But most of them weren't bought at the iTunes store but downloaded from other places. The only thing I can see in iTunes (v. 11.0.2) when I connect the iPad is the ones I bought at the iTunes Store. How do I do to get my old ones in iTunes and (now that I know how hard this is) in my mac to do another backup somewhere else than in iCloud?
Has someone done this before and could help me? I've been looking for it for hours and I can't seem to find a solution. I'd be very grateful if someone could point me out in the right direction. I mean, they're there! How do I get them? Help!

Thank you. That would have worked too, but before getting the answer I found another solution: what I finnaly did was use Detunes to copy my books from the iPad. It was quite fast too. Any of those could have worked quite nicely.

  • Can I move an ibook author file from one device to another?

I have ibook Author on my Macbook and my Mac Mini.  If I start a project on my Macbook, is it possible to transfer the incomplete file to my Mini (where all my pictures and charts are stored) later to complete it?
    ~~ Chikana

Just like any other file, save your book where you can find it - it will have the suffix .iba
Move that file, however you like, to your other computer and continue there.

  • Is there a way to copy all my PDfs in ibooks on my iPad?

Because I'm still sorting out an issue with ibooks on the iMac renaming files so they do not match the names on my iPad, I am wondering if there is a way to copy all the pdfs I have in ibooks on my ipad (without doing each one, one at a time) so I can save a copy in Evernote or dropbox so when I sync and update shortly, I don't loose what I have?
Thanks for any help you can offer.
    Michelle

    Thank you.Ok say for e.g.
500 video files imported in fcpx
800 clips extracted from these obviously on the timeline and joined/compounded according to their content in say 15 layers according to 15 instruments used ,so now just to see the entire usable footage ....
now one 7 minute song sequence has to be made where bits would be simultaneously taken from these 15 layers as all instruments are playing simultaneously
these shots are not more than 2 secs each according to the beat........
when I try to work with these 15 layers as well as the Final primary layer that I'm making in the same timeline my fcpx becomes slow
but when I drag individual layer to individual timelines it is fine so that is the only option
but now for every 2 second bit I have to go back to the 15 layered timeline and find one single suitable shot
So I was wondering is there a way to be able to see these layers and clips on the timeline in the browser in a systematic fashion like the way we get with keywords  ?
and keywords can only be used in the imported clips already in the browser ,and not after we drag it on the timeline.....
Till now I think exporting and importing back is the only option ...but is there another work around ?

  • Please help me. I have an IBook g4 and I've somehow lost plugins that I need to listen to webcasts etc. I've tried to download them when it signifies to "download appropriate plugin" or whatever it says, and when i hit the button, it says  "no suitable...

PLEASE, PLEASE HELP ME. I'm a computer ignorant woman and need help. I have an IBOOK G4 and I was trying to fix a problem in IPhoto (which never got fixed) and took some guy's bad advice to reset iphoto or something and now my plug-ins are gone too. Or at least the one(s) that were allowing me to listen to on-line discussions and audio recordings.. Can anyone help me? I have gone to UPDATE SOFTWARE and updated Java but that is all.  It's like I go to a think were there is an audio thing to listen to and there is a picture of a plug in and it says something like "Plug in not available to listen to this" and then gives you an option to download plug-in but when I do, it says something like "No Plug in was found that was useable" or something alone those lines. Then it has a manual plug-in option but when I clicked that, I entered the frustrated crying zone. Can you help?  I will so give you big points!   Thank you!

THis is all Greek to me, but maybe it answers your questions????  Thank you Ronda.

  • I purchased a book on itunes.  It shoes up in itunes but not in ibook on my ipod touch.  I tried rebooting, syncing, updating.  Nothing works.  Can anyone help me?

A book I purchased from itunes store downloaded OK and shows up on my PC but does not show up in ibooks on my ipod touch.  I tried manually syncing and rebooting which did not help.  From the pc in the itunes store the book shows up in the purchased list.  From the ipod, the purchased list from the store is empty.  Actually, the book does not exist when trying to search for it at the store from the ipod.  I'm confused.  Any solution or suggestion?

The book is in ibooks format.  The extension is ".ibooks".  I did delete it from itunes and download it again from the store a few times.  I tried updating my ibooks app.  I even sent it to the ipod through dropbox.  I looked through all the settings I could find in itunes and ipod.  So far no matter what I do, ibooks does not see this book.

  • How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author?

How do I add a widget to give a review or star rating for a book at the end of a book in iBooks Author? You know, how you buy books on iBooks and when you're finished reading it, there's a place where you can give a rating or review right there on the very last page?

Just supply a link that says 'Review This Book' - use http://itunes.apple.com/linkmaker/ to generate one.
