11g silent installation

OS: RHEL 5.4
Oracle: Enterprise Edition 11g release 1.
I am attempting a silent install of 11g, installing the base software first and then patchset6 (11.1.0.7). I can install each separately with no issues/errors using a response file and the installer from the respective install directory. However, when I attempt to install them in succession using the NEXT_SESSION=true in the response file of the base install the install fails with "SEVERE:Abnormal program termination" This occurs whether I attempt the install with the installer from the base software or the patch6 software.
I would really like this install to be completely unattended. Appreciate any feedback.

Looking at the docs is appears that the wait flag is for windows. (-waitforcompletion For windows. setup.exe will wait for completion instead of
spawning the java engine and exiting. --Oracle® Universal Installer and OPatch User’s Guide) Are you using this on a UNIX system or on Windows?

  • Client 11g silent installation guidance

    Hello everyone,
    I am just starting my journey into the world of Oracle. Typically it has not been a smooth start hence my post here.
    I have been asked to arrange a silent install of the 11g Client (v11.1.0.6.21 specifically) onto a Windows XP machine. I diligently did some reading on the net as there is zero documentation or install media here - just the installation files. I managed to create a response file using "setup.exe -record -destinationFile newbie.rsp", modified some minor settings and tried to:
         setup.exe -silent -noconfig -nowait -responsefile "c:\newbie.rsp"
    Unfortunately I just cannot get the text-based "Oracle Universal Installer" window to hide during the install, regardless of what I put in the response file. So I am not doing very well on the "silent install" front.
    Then I found this thread:     Oracle Client 11g Release 2 silent installation.
    However the installer I have doesn't seem to have the "save the current session as a record file" option.
    So, would someone be kind enough to point me in the direction of some up to date doco I can read please? I am keen to learn all about this but I just can't seem to find a place to start.
    Any suggestions are greatly received and appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Troy

    Thanks for the swift response Ansiktet!
    +>>There is an default response file provided in the installation directory,+
    Great. The only file & folder structure I have starts from:
         \install
              \access\...
              \images\...
              \reource\....
              access_setup.bat
              addLangs.bat
              oraparam.ini
              oui.exe
              unzip.exe
         \stage
              \Actions\...
              \Components\...
              \Queries
              install1.jar
              invDetails.properties
              products.xml
              shiphomeinfo.properties
              shiphomeproperties.xml
         setup.exe
    I have had a look through and can't find a sample response file. Does this file & folder structure match what you were expecting I should have? And if so, where might I find the sample please?
    +>> you can make it easy for you and just edit this one, its quite self-explaining.+
    I found a few examples on the net and the "-record" option generated a very nice one for me to start from.
    The problem is, regardless of what I put in, the OUI command-line style window always seems to be displayed.
    I have put in lines such as:
         FROM_LOCATION="\\Software\Apps\Third party\Oracle\Client 11g\stage\products.xml"
         ACCEPT_LICENSE_AGREEMENT=true
         SHOW_SPLASH_SCREEN=false
         SHOW_WELCOME_PAGE=false
         SHOW_RELEASE_NOTES=false
         SHOW_SUMMARY_PAGE=false
         SHOW_CUSTOM_TREE_PAGE=false
         SHOW_COMPONENT_LOCATIONS_PAGE=false
         SHOW_INSTALL_PROGRESS_PAGE=false
         SHOW_REQUIRED_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
         SHOW_CONFIG_TOOL_PAGE=false
    +>> Then you run it with the same command you used before.+
    The comment in the other thread implied this method has been superceeded. Are you familiar with the newer method and where I might find some doco on it (to educate myself)?
    Thanks again,
    Troy

  • Oracle Client 11g Release 2 silent installation.

    Hi, I try to make a silent installation of oracle client 11g release 2 for windows 7 enterprise edition.
    I'm familiar with the response file, and how to create this in earlyer versions.
    But the "-record -destinationFile <filepath>" switch do not work, and when I run "setup -help" the -record switch is gone.
    How do you create a response file with 11g release 2?
    Best regards
    Lansti

    Hey Hans - We shouldn't have to read the manual each time a new installer comes out...why would there be a need to constantly redo how the installers works from a general standpoint (like -record)?? Stupid doesn't even begin to describe it.

  • Oracle Database Express Edition 11g Release2 11.2.0 silent Installation failing with port8081 error

    Hi everyone,
    We are trying to create silent(unattended) install package to install Oracle database 11g express edition 11.2.0 silently on our machines. We modified the provided .iss file as per the requirement and tried to install with below command,
    setup.exe /verbose /s /f1"c:\DISK1\response\oracleXE-install.iss" /f2"c:\DISK1\oracle_log.txt" /v" /l*v "c:\DISK1\oracle_msi_log.txt""
    Installation is failing with below error from the log file,
    1: OracleXE-Server-Install-Message: Port 8081 is in use. Specify a different port number.
    Installshield 11:22:22: Installation aborts, ready to shut down.
    Port 8081 is being used by mcAfee in our organization. We tried passing a different port number for Http in the response file(.iss), but it is failing with same reason.  We have searched foruns and found that we need to stop the port8081 during the oracle XE installation and can start it later once the installation is completed. But As port 8081 is being used by McAfee in our organization, we could not stop it even during oracle XE installation as it creates security issues.
    I am attaching the MSI log(failure log) and modified .iss(modfied .iss file to .iss.txt to be able to attach) files. Please look into it and suggest how can we achieve silent installation in this case.

    Pl see previous discussions about this topic - seems to be a limitation of the silent install process
    OracleXE-Server-Install-Message: The 8081 port is in use.

  • Silent Installation 11G

    Hello,
    I try to have a silent installation of the Oracle. The installation is done, everything is ok, but i have a problem with operations after installation.
    For example, after the Oracle is installed i need to create the DB, etc ... For this i need to know when the installation is done, but looks like after i start the installer in silent mode with required parameters it's not waiting till the installation is done.
    How can i wait the end of the command "databaseInstall\setup.exe -silent -responseFile d:\db_install.rsp" ?
    i need also to wait till the NETCA, DBCA finish their installation in silent mode.
    How can be this done ?
    Tx in advance.!!!

    Srini is correct. You will need to use the -waitforcompletion flag to create the DB and netca.
    You can use the below doc for instructions on how to do this.
    How to install Oracle Database Server software silently with customized listener configuration (Doc ID 782919.1)

  • Oracle 11g client installation on Solaris in non GUI mode

    Hi,
    I want to know if there is a way i can install Oracle 11g client on Solaris 10 machine in non GUI mode (ie. i want to do it from a command based terminal)
    Thanks
    Anup

    Hi Anup
    You have two ways to install it
    1) Client installation without response file
    Please Refer to Doc ID 885643.1
    2) With Response file
    Refer to the document available in Document library
    Document Oracle® Database Client Installation Guide
    11g Release 2 (11.2) for Solaris Operating System
    Note: from 11gR2 onwards you can create a response file from GUI also and then use it later on for silent installation.
    Hope this is helpful for You

  • How to install OracleXE 11g silent?

    I'm trying 2 days to install OracleXE 11g R2 in silent mode. But somehow it stops immediatly after it extracted the Files, then i can read in the log File only [ResponseResult]ResultCode=-3. I couldn't find any other Logdata even in c:\windows .
    On both systems 32/64 bit Windows 7 SP1 Pro Edition with following command:
    c:\oraclexe-install\setup.exe /S /f1"c:\oraclexe-install\setup.iss" /f2"c:\oraclexe-install\setup.log"
    Of course readed all the Documentation and tried many Solutions from other Forums. One of them is here:
    Oracle XE 11G Installation on Win7 x64 | iatar studio
    The Problem is i can't even install on 32 Bit system. Very strange thing is above Solution works with 10g, . Can somebody help me? Or tell me what i'm doing there wrong?
    Other Solution was with creating the response file during the installation with the command "setup.exe /r ". Even with correct response file it's not working.
    Regards
    Bachka

    Some progress....
    Try adding the following to your command to create a log of the MSI installer:
    c:\oraclexe-install\setup.exe /S /f1"c:\oraclexe-install\setup.iss" /f2"c:\oraclexe-install\setup.log" /v"/L*c:\oraclexe-install\oracle-msi.log\" /qn"
    When I reviewed the MSI log file, I had a message about the port being reserved by another service. I change the HTTP port in the ISS file and the silent install succeeded. I am running an Apache server on 8080, so I had changed the port to 8081 in the answer file.  Not sure why (port 8081 is not in use), but the silent installer did not like that.  Your issue may be different from the port, but maybe you can see what the error is in the MSI log.

    Hi Mike,
    did you install all required rpm's? You could check this with my open source project which is also using silent installation method. Furthermore also ASM setup is included. ;)

  • Fixup script generation for 12c silent installation

    Hi,
    I am trying to generate fixup scripts using silent installation of RDBMS 12c
    but there are no response files created (as it was for 11g previously)
    only scripts for the check in /tmp/CVU_12.1.0.1.0_oracle
    At the same time, there are no problems to generate fixup scripts through OUI
    and under the directory mentioned above sub-directory fixup generated and
    it has XML files to executed by runfixup.sh
    Thanks,
    Andrey

    I was told by MOS that option to generate fixup scripts for RDBMS 12c not available only for GI
    And why they did that...

  • Silent Installation of Oracle

    Hi,
    I need to do the silent installation of oracle(11g) using a single shell script. I have generated the response files for both software installation as well as for dbca setup . I have kept them in the following way in my shell script:
    su - oracle -c "<runInstaller path> -silent -responseFile <responseFile Path>" ###LINE 1
    ./<Base Path>root.sh ######## LINE 2
    su - oracle -c "dbca -silent -createDatabase -responseFile <responseFilePath> -continueOnNonFatalErrors true" #### LINE 3
    Everything is running fine except that control is not getting passed to LINE2 from LINE1 , even after LINE1 is getting executed successfully.
    Please help me in this regard.

    I do a very similar thing in Oracle 10g with no issues. Haven't tried with 11gR2 yet, so I can not comment whether there is an 'opportunity for Oracle to change something'.
    The one difference is that I put the action for each call into a unique script, so I end up with a sequence like
    su - oracle -c {path}/script1.sh
    {Base Path}/root.sh
    su - oracle -c {path}/script2.sh
    where script1 does the runInstall and script2 does the dbca.
    My one thought is that you have some line-continuation char in the runInstaller call.

    Hi,
    see the description in the installation manual: [url http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10843/advance.htm]Silent install. You have to build your own script because the environment can be special.
