Hi,
it looks like, that your "shared device" you are using is not really shared.
The second node does "create an ASM diskgroup" and create OCR and Voting disks. If this indeed would be a shared device, he should have recognized, that your disk is shared.
So as a result your VMware configuration must be wrong, and the disk you presented as shared disk is not really shared.
Which VMWare version did you use? It will not work correctly with the workstation or player edition, since shared disks are only really working with the server version.
If you indeed using the server, could you paste your vm configurations?

Install failing when running Database Configuration Assistant
I am trying to install Oracle 9i on a new Solaris 9 box. Everything goes fine until oui tries to run the Database Configuration Assistant. It is at the "Creating and starting Oracle Instance" stage that I get a popup which says:
ORA-27302: failure occured at: skgpwreset1
ORA-27303: additional information: invalid shared ctx
ORA-27146: post/wait initialization failed with
status:28
ORA-27301: OS failure message: No space left on device
ORA-27302: failure occured at: sskgpcreates
I don't understand the "No space left on device" as I have ~30 GB available. I am hoping it is a result of the invalid shared ctx above it. Other than this, the installation completes without any errors.
I have been banging my head against this for over a week! Does anyone have any suggestions. I am sorry I waited so long to post the question, but I could use some assistance urgently.
TIA,
SteveSolution:
For Solaris 9 the (recommended) /etc/system parameters look like this:
set semsys:seminfo_semmni= 100
set semsys:seminfo_semmns= 1024
set semsys:seminfo_semmsl= 256
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmax=4294967295
set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=100
The other parameters are not needed in this Solaris version.
I hope this is useful. -

RegardsHI,
the second node (second root.sh) should not want to "create" the diskgroup data, since it is already there.
This pretty much sounds like you tried to start both root.sh (on the first node and on the second node) at the same time, not waiting for it to finish on the first node.
It is important, that before you start the root.sh on the second node, it has to be finished successfully on the first node for the cluster to update the information.

Have you or someone modified the perl script? Usually it is required to modify the scripts to point toproper perl location. Sometimes when you modify the script, the text editors could insert some characters in wrong encoding, etc. So I suggest to do comparison to perl scripts from the nodes with the same psu levels where installation was sucessfull., just compare filesize and if its different, then you could possible copy right scripts over current ones.
The GI installations are very hard to investigate remotely, there could be too many things that can be wrong, so oracle support is your friend.
As general thing I always recommend to install latest PSU before root.sh script execution.

11gr2 Rac Install: Stuck at the DNS SCAN portion.
Hi Guys, it's Xev.
Ok, I have followed his install guide to the dot. http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/oracle-db-11gr2-rac-installation-on-oel5-using-virtualbox.php#install_grid_infrastructure
During the Grid Infrastructure install portion, it's stops me and tells me that "No Locally adapter is defined" when I am right here, it won't let me past this point right below...
http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/images/ol5-112-rac/47-grid-ssh-connectivity.jpg
Now, this install document, tells you to put the 3 SCAN Ip addresses in the /ect/hosts file and does not tell you that you need to install DNS on a server and configure it, or does he? The way he says it to
me just doesn't make sense.
My question is to only people that have actually installed 11gr2 RAC using VirtualBox and using oracle linux 5.8.
He says in the install document this right here, but some how i think he is just flat out wrong.
I quote from the install document,,,
If you are not using DNS, the "/etc/hosts" file must contain the following information.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
# Public
192.168.0.101 ol5-112-rac1.localdomain ol5-112-rac1
192.168.0.102 ol5-112-rac2.localdomain ol5-112-rac2
# Private
192.168.1.101 ol5-112-rac1-priv.localdomain ol5-112-rac1-priv
192.168.1.102 ol5-112-rac2-priv.localdomain ol5-112-rac2-priv
# Virtual
192.168.0.103 ol5-112-rac1-vip.localdomain ol5-112-rac1-vip
192.168.0.104 ol5-112-rac2-vip.localdomain ol5-112-rac2-vip
# SCAN
192.168.0.105 ol5-112-scan.localdomain ol5-112-scan
192.168.0.106 ol5-112-scan.localdomain ol5-112-scan
192.168.0.107 ol5-112-scan.localdomain ol5-112-scan
Note. The SCAN address should not really be defined in the hosts file. Instead is should be defined on the DNS to round-robin between 3 addresses on the same subnet as the public IPs. For this installation, we will compromise and use the hosts file. This is not possible if you are using 11.2.0.2 onward.
If you are using DNS, then only the first line needs to be present in the "/etc/hosts" file. The other entries are defined in the DNS, as described here. Having said that, I typically include all but the SCAN addresses..
END QUOTE.
So, Guys, what does he actually mean with this? MY Grid install fails when it's trying to resolved the scan. DO I need to install DNS like he gives in the link above, OR can the install work with the SCAN in the /ect/hosts file? I Personally think this is just wrong, and you have to have DNS working 3 ip round-robin for the SCAN to work.
Please only reply to this thread if you have actually successfully installled 11rg2 Rac (11.0.1) on Oracle Linux 5.8 using VirtualBox, or actually know where i am going wrong by your own experience, not just goggle searching.....but you got it to work....
I am begging on my knees for help with this, since I have been at this for weeks now.
If you help me through this, I'll be your friend

Do i need to run the named DNS server on both nodes? It's running on both nodes now...and the service starts..

Need 11gr2 RAC install Guide on Solaris 10 x86 using containers and NFS
I'm looking for an 11gr2 RAC install Guide on Solaris 10 x86 using 2-3 containers. I need to have the NFS server reside in the global zone or on a 3rd container visable to the two rac containers.
Please share me installation guide!
Thank you!
PS - I currently have run into an install issue -
Can't change ownership on /oracle/products/11.2.0/ocr/: not owner at /oracle/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/crsconfig_lib.pm line 5014.
I suspect the NFS share params from the NFS server in the global zone are not 100% correct to the two rac zones/containers.Have you visited Oracle Support Services website (formerly metalink) to determine if your desired configuration is supported?
Last time I looked it was not.
That said Oracle database installation guides are fully documented online.

I have a production mobile Flex app that uses RemoteObject calls for all data access, and it's working well, except for a new remote call I just added that only fails when running with a release build. The same call works fine when running on the device (iPhone) using debug build. When running with a release build, the result handler is never called (nor is the fault handler called). Viewing the BlazeDS logs in debug mode, the call is received and send back with data. I've narrowed it down to what seems to be a data size issue.
I have targeted one specific data call that returns in the String value a string length of 44kb, which fails in the release build (result or fault handler never called), but the result handler is called as expected in debug build. When I do not populate the String value (in server side Java code) on the object (just set it empty string), the result handler is then called, and the object is returned (release build).
The custom object being returned in the call is a very a simple object, with getters/setters for simple types boolean, int, String, and one org.23c.dom.Document type. This same object type is used on other other RemoteObject calls (different data) and works fine (release and debug builds). I originally was returning as a Document, but, just to make sure this wasn't the problem, changed the value to be returned to a String, just to rule out XML/Dom issues in serialization.
I don't understand 1) why the release build vs. debug build behavior is different for a RemoteObject call, 2) why the calls work in debug build when sending over a somewhat large (but, not unreasonable) amount of data in a String object, but not in release build.
I have't tried to find out exactly where the failure point in size is, but, not sure that's even relevant, since 44kb isn't an unreasonable size to expect.
By turning on the Debug mode in BlazeDS, I can see the object and it's attributes being serialized and everything looks good there. The calls are received and processed appropriately in BlazeDS for both debug and release build testing.
Anyone have an idea on other things to try to debug/resolve this?
Platform testing is BlazeDS 4, Flashbuilder 4.7, Websphere 8 server, iPhone (iOS 7.1.2). Tried using multiple Flex SDK's 4.12 to the latest 4.13, with no change in behavior.
Thanks! After a week's worth of debugging, I found the issue.
The Java type returned from the call was defined as ArrayList. Changing it to List resolved the problem.
I'm not sure why ArrayList isn't a valid return type, I've been looking at the Adobe docs, and still can't see why this isn't valid. And, why it works in Debug mode and not in Release build is even stranger. Maybe someone can shed some light on the logic here to me. -
LSMW Fails when run in B/G but works fine in Front end..why?
Hi All,
i am trying to run a batch process by LSMW, my files are accurate, no problem with them, everything works fine but it fails when run in BG..works absolutely fine in front end. whats the diff with running in B/G?
same thing happens when i am trying to execute an RFC thru SAP JCO, it works when debugger is on (i guess switching on debugger is similar to running in B/G) but it doesnt work when debugger is off. but when i execute that RFC directly in se37 from SAP gui it works fine..fails when connected to JCO..
i am not having this issue with r/3 4.6c or mySAP ECC.6.0 i have this issue only in r/3 4.7.
has anyone faced the similar situtaion? pls help.
thanks.
p.s if this may help. the RFC and LSMW error both are pertaining to change in address of US employees.( infotype 0006)Applying SAP note 928273 Solved this issue.

To eloborate more..the error is..Fill in all the mandatory fields.
which i am very much doing..there are no hidden fields or anything..i have seen the screens etc..I AM filling all mandatory fields. infact i am not leaving anything unfilled., same scrren is going fine when in front end..i am just clicking ok..ok..ok and boom transaction complete..no complaints. but running B/G is killing me.
i have to run batch for 100,000 employees
What fails my logic is..its working fine in 4.6c and mySAP ECC.6.0 but not in 4.7

Hi All

right now jobs are not even starting when i run them manually. Found the error Error 45 Initializing In SQL*Plus When Running A Sql Script.
it says Bug:3039738.
what is the solution to fix this Bug ?

Unfortunately, you didn't think showing us the contents of BackupDo.sql was of any value in finding out what your problem was.

PROTL-16: Internal Error
Command return code of 41 (10496) from command: /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/ocrconfig -local -upgrade oracle oinstall
Failed to create or upgrade OLR
[root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]#
Looking on the net, anyone who has hit this has had a problem with permissions, so as suggested I ran:
[root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/getenforce
Disabled
[root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/setenforce 0
/usr/sbin/setenforce: SELinux is disabled
[root@RiskmgmtDB01 grid]# /usr/sbin/getenforce
Disabled
As this is already set to disabled, I don't think it will help.
The two other threads similar to this are:
root.sh failed with signal 11 while installing 11gR2 grid infrastructure
root.sh script fail to run on OEL5.4
But neither works. I've raised a support request, but if anyone else has a bright idea ....
Thanks, DuncanThis document seems to apply: PROTL-16 Reported while Executing OCRCONFIG [ID 1123453.1]
It recommends running CVU, but that showed no issues.
So next step is the uninstall, as per: How to Proceed from Failed 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure (CRS) Installation [ID 942166.1]
However "$GRID_HOME/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -verbose -deconfig -force -lastnode" fails:
# /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -verbose -deconfig -force -lastnode

10g R2 RAC on Solaris 10 error when running root.sh
hi, I am installing Oracle 10g rac on Solaris 10 with two nodes. In the end of the installation of RAC when a run root.sh I get the error bellow.
# /opt/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/root.sh
Checking to see if Oracle CRS stack is already configured
Setting the permissions on OCR backup directory
Setting up NS directories
Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configurationI have done this install using a pair of T2000's and a 65XX SAN. The install doco is not straight forward. I had to compile a number of Metalink notes to eventually get the disk partitions sorted. Of particular help was Note:271621.1.
Since I am not a Solaris admin, the next bit is caveated as "This is how I did it" and maybe not how anyone else would have done it. These things were not explicitly noted, but gleaned through a bit of reading:
1) you need to throw away the first cylinder of each LUN. I did this by creating the first partition as a single cylinder.
2)then create s4 (or whichever slice you desire) as the rest of the space allocated to that LUN.
3) Repeat this for each LUN presented
4) I created a directory /san under which I then created the character mode (raw) interface for each of ocr, vote.
5) For asm, and for no other reason than being self documenting, I created /san/asm and created character mode interfaces to each of the LUN's for datadg and fradg
6) repeat steps 1-5 on the other box
I took quite some time (2 days) to extract all this and assemble it to a working system. But has always been stable.
