16:9 footage showing up and exporting as 4:3 letterboxed

Greetings,
I am making a making of doc and have a problem which I am sure is simple to figure out, but I think I'm out of practice to see the obvious.
The footage and formats:
- Shot and captured in PAL 720x576 (anamorphic checked in file info, shows up as 16:9 in quicktime and finder).
- conformed timeline to PAL clips.
- imported .mov film clips 720x576 APRHQ to intercut with my footage (also same specs, different codec) into timeline.
The problem:
I'm not sure when this happened, but the footage in the canvas began showing up as 4:3, letterbox. It exports the same way. 4:3 letterboxed.
Attempted solutions:
Checked "Anamorphic" - resulted in 4:3 footage being squeezed into widescreen.
Other long shot ideas, not worth mentioning, just mucking about, hoping something would magically work.
Any ideas appreciated.
Thanks,
M

Dear Tom and Captain Mench,
I totally see Tom's point. I thought about that too. Captain Mench was on the money. I came across this solution just a few minutes before receiving both of yours life saving advice, but I forgot about the Pasting Attributes option and thought I would need to do it each shot individually. Thanks to you both and thanks for saving me hours worth of work. I cant help but wonder about this anomaly, but can settle for turning in my work and moving on to the next project.
Thanks so much for your advice and help!
Drinking to your health tonight,
M

  • What is the best way to import and export footage from the 5D Mark II?

    Hello,
I've just finished shooting what I am considering to be my directorial masterpiece.  Shot it on the Canon 5D (1080p, 24fps), and the footage looks amazing.  Now I am ready to start editing and have been using premiere lately, but I have yet to figure out the proper pipeline.  I want to know the best way to retain resolution before I delve into this project.
    My questions:
    1)  What is the best way to start a new project and import the footage without having to render whilst editing, so as to retain all resolution and originality of the source footage?
    2)  What is the best way/ codec/ format to export this same footage once editing is complete so as to retain that crisp 1080p for which the 5D is so recognized?
    3)  What is the best way/ codec/ format to import and export/ render between premiere and after effects?  I am speaking mostly of vfx and color correction.  I also have some 30fps footage that I intend to slow down in AE and then import into premiere.
I know this is pretty broad, but as a solo filmmaker I really need someone's guidance.  I rarely ever finish my films with the same, crisp look as the footage.  I need pipeline help, and really appreciate it!

    1. Follow the advice above. Also use the Media Browser to import the footage in case you have spanned media files. Import files with the Media Browser.
    2. It largely depends on what you wish to ouput to: Blu-ray, web, etc. This FAQ gives the best answer: What are the best export settings?
    3. Use the Replace with Adobe After Effects Composition function.

  • Raw footage went in small and exported HUGE

When I imported my footage from my video camera it was a nice, big still, size. It was approximately 6GB. This is large but manageable. But when I edited it only a very small amount and exported it into .avi format it is now 51GB!
What can I do to reduce this size?
    Thanks,
    Jay

If you are giving the clients the raw footage it's best I think to give them the entire media structure from the camera card. Just make a separate folder for each card, call them Joe&Joan1, 2, 3, etc. Drag the complete contents of each card into it's separate folder. Put the folders on an ExFAT formatted jump drive.
That's the down and dirty method, but it depends what the client wants to do with the video, just watch it on the TV or maybe do something with it themselves. If the latter, then the way I described above is probably the safest for giving them the most options on how to deal with it. If they just want to view, most recent systems can play back raw .mts files in H.264, but the client will have to dig it out of the folder structure to find it.

  • Best Presets and Export Settings for GoPro and Iphone Footage?

Is there a good preset that will handle Iphone 4/4s/5 video footage (720P on the 4 and 1080P on the 4S/5), and My GoPro HD Hero2? I typically record on the GoPro in 1080 30FPs, or 720P 60FPS. I generally produce videos with both types of footage.
What about exporting the footage? I prefer max quality. I store files on PC, and typically upload to youtube ( I have no restrictions to length or size on YT)
    Using Adobe Premiere Elements 10 W7 64bit, 8GB RAM, I7, NVS4200M, etc.

    You don't.
Slideshows are exported as movies and these are very large files. Email is not an appropriate medium for very large files as they can cause immense issues for the receiver.
Better to share some other way.

  • Show Repeated key values in Reports and Export Into Excel

    Hi Experts,
Currently I am working on the BW3.5 version. Our client requirement to display the repeated key value in web and export same into excel. I have followed the steps in web template which mentioned below to achieve the requirement.
    1) In my web template, add the following line to the Template Properties object tag (the tag at the very top of the web template in HTML mode):<param name="SUPPRESS_REPETITION_TEXTS" value=""/>
After the change web template change, Myself execute the report in web, Its fine web. But I export into excel, again the key values are suppressed. So I have followed the steps in query. Then its fine. I mean, I can export into excel with repeated key values.
    2) In my query, in Properties and on the Display tab, unchecked "Hide Repeated Key Values".
But do we have any other option without changing query properties to achieve the requirement.. I am fine with the web template change("SUPPRESS_REPETITION_TEXTS"). But I do not want to change the query properties.
Please help me to fix the issue. Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,

    Hi Experts,
I have come across one of the suggestion in the below location. Could you plz help me to implement it.
    http://www.sapfans.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=118185
    Suggestion:
You can do exactly what you want, but it will take either a button changing the properties of the web item or a javascript function added to the context menu getting the properties of the table item and changing it to "X" or "". These are just two examples, there are other ways to do this. This is the actual code that sets the suppression for the repeated texts. Hope this helps.

  • Confused about import and export formats

I have a load of 8mm video footage that I want to archive before the old camera dies. As a first step I have used my DVD/HDD recorder attached to my TV to save the footage from the camera, do a little bit of editing and then burn onto DVD at the highest quality available. Doing this I can get 60 mins of footage onto each DVD and the quality is a good as the original. I now want to play with a few of these by importing into iMovie 09 so that I can add a few titles and link clips together with a few transitions. Nothing too complicated. Here's where I get a bit lost with all the formats available to me for importing and exporting. What's the best way of doing this? Having read around a bit it looks like conversion to DV is good for getting into iMovie in the first place. To do this I have tried using MPEG Streamclip and it looks OK, but what about all of the settings options DV25, DVCPRO25, DVCPRO50, frame blending, downscaling etc etc no idea what any of this means. Then having added a few bits and pieces, what's the best way of saving it again to make sure that I keep the quality as high as possible - DV? Ultimately I'd like to have the edited movies back on DVDs with the footage quality the same as I started with i.e. no compression artefacts. If I save the final version in DV format I could then keep copies to view with Quicktime and then do I just use iDVD or MPEG Streamclip to convert to a format playable on a DVD player. Is there any guide somewhere as to what all of the different formats are for pro.s cons etc. Also confused as to why files get bigger and bigger e.g. a 20min clip on a DVD is about 1.5GB, but when converted to DV becomes almost 5GB. I can understand how compression makes files sizes smaller, but what's happening here??
    Neil

A Quick Time .mov movie can play on any PC as log as they have the Quicktime player
    free http://www.apple.com/quicktime/
To do it, open iMovie, pick you project, then "Share to Media Browser" and pick the "HD" setting. It can take hours/movie depending on their length. Once it is done you can find it inside the iMovie project's file. TO get there, go to Users Folder -> your User name folder -> Movies -> iMovie projects -> and find the project that you made the movie from. Right click on that file (or use the control key as you click on the file) and you will see a menu -> Show Package contents -> Movies and your 720p .mov movie will be in that Movie folder. you can drag it to your desktop and copy it to your external HD or flash drive.

  • Super 8 interlaced confusion whilst editing and exporting

    Hi folks
I recently had my old super 8 films telecined to disc as .avi at 18fps. I could have had them copied to a DV tape instead but due to the interlacing problems that would have caused I decided to transfer to an avi file. Now in a earlier post I had to tackle the problem of converting my footage from 18fps to 25fps using stream clip so as I could successfully edit my super 8 shots in final cut express 4:
    http://www.fcpbook.com/Video6a.html
Has this converted my film back to interlaced footage because I selected DV-PAL in stream clip? I didn't think this would be the case but my titles in FCE4 are coming out like they are interlaced once exported as a quicktime mov file. I put the file through JES deinterlacer and this seems to have fixed the title problem. However this process of telecine, coversion, editing, export, jes deinterlace and youtube upload is very lengthy!
I'm not intending to show these films on an interlaced tv. I'm only going to show them on the web. Is there any way to set my frame rate to 25fps without the interlaced effect happening in final cut express to my titles? I'm a little confused to be honest!
    Best
    Kevin

I just set the field dominance to none for the sequence and exported it again as a quick time movie. The titles still appear to be interlaced as before? I then changed each titles field dominance to none in the timeline and exported but it has still made no difference?

  • I need to capture while continuing to edit and export to tape, bad idea?

Is it possible to use a different capture program (other than iMovie) to capture DV footage while I continue to do cuts only editing with Final Cut and perhaps even exporting to tape through a different deck on a Dual 2.0 G5 with two hard drives? I understand that I need a program that captures the clip as a QT movie at 48 kHz.
I need to do this in order to justify moving from a linear edit system for news.
What would be the recommended system capable of this?
    17 PowerBook 1.33 GHz   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

Licensing issues prevent us from just dumping our feeds onto one server and then connecting it to all the edit bays with Gigabit. But cost is a big factor for us since we are small. One machine at a time is what we can do since it's all new to us and unproven, really. Prove that it can be faster, then, we can move to put a G5 in every edit bay. Right now the editors can record a feed of several stories and continue to edit in the bay. They order the feed, then hit record and go back to work.
Only one deck isn't a problem, the importing will come from a router going thru a DV bridge. But just as long as we can import while we continue to do some cuts only editing, no effects, no filters while we import. No need to export at the same time, tho that would be cool if ever possible.
Once all the stories are done for the show, we will export, perhaps just play back off FCP during the show, easier for the tape op to just hit the spacebar I guess.
basically the question is, what bare bones capture utility will grab our 48kHz DV footage and give us enough CPU left that it won't crash when we go back to editing?

  • FCE and Export for Apple TV

I want to be able to use FCE to edit my HD footage from my Sony HD7 camcorder then display results through Apple TV. I know I will lose resolution, but am having one particular problem. After importing clips to FCE I exported to Quicktime movie, then opened the file in Quicktime and exported to Apple TV. The resulting video seems "jerky" at least to my eyes. Almost like every other frame was cut out. Do I need to export from FCE at a different resolution or frame rate to get the export to Apple TV looking better?
    Thanks all for the help.

Thanks Tom. Could be just my eyes seeing the difference in the results, but here are the details.
    Original File from Sony HDR-HC7
    Video Tracks:
    Apple Intermediate Codec, 1440 x 1080, 29.97 fps, 98.77 Mbps
    Audio Tracks:
16-bit Big Endian stereo, 48 kHz, 1.54 Mbps
Export direct as QuickTime movie and conversion to Apple TV seems to show some jagged sharp motion to my eyes, so I tried the steps below and got a more fluid result.
The exported from FCE to 1280 x 720 with these settings:
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Key Frame Rate: 24
    Frame Rendering: Yes
    Encoding Mode” multi-pass
    Dimensions: 1280 x 720
Results of export from Final Cut
    H.264, 1280 x 720, 29.97 fps, 17.48 Mbps
16-bit Big Endian stereo, 48 kHz, 1.54 Mbps
Then converting that to Apple TV file (opened in QuickTime and used export for Apple TV):
    Video Tracks:
    H.264, 960 x 540, 29.97 fps, 3.81 Mbps
Could be that Export to QuickTime Movie makes an Apple Intermediate Codec file and the export using QT conversion made an H264 codec. Perhaps there is a difference in the way the QT function "export to Apple TV" handles those two codecs???

  • Slow renders and exports.

    Jello,
I have a standard config, 2x2.8 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon.
It has only 2 GB of RAM.
I am editing HDV 1080p footage for output of the same encoding.
It recently dawned on me that my render and export processes might be significantly expedited by an increase in my RAM.
    Yes, no? Why, why not?
Glad to answer any questions, just want to make sure I make the right move.
RAM cheap, but it ain't that cheap.
    Out,
    -the apple video dude

I have the same Mac Pro with 10GB RAM but I'm also disappointed. I'm rendering VOB files (ie only the audio needs fixing) and it's taking looong. The activity monitor says the processor is only using 9%.
However, when I use MPEG Streamclip for conversions I see that the activity monitor shows how it is using real raw power, unlike FCP.

  • The length of the recording and exporting truncated

    Hi there.
It's my first venture into GarageBand. I have just a few questions.
First, how can I tell the length of my recording without having to listen to the entire session? Dragging the indicator bar in the window to move it along takes a very long time, is there a quicker way to do this?
Second, I have been exporting my files to iTunes to burn CD's. I am seeing that the file get's shortened in the process. It's not just a small clip, but rather edits out over 15 minutes on one file. Any thoughts? I called Apple and they knew nothing.

    To determine the length:
    - Switch the meter that shows bars and beats to minutes and seconds (by clicking on the clock icon).
    - Scroll to the end of the song.
    - Click into the timeline's ruler, and the cursor will be taken there, the meter showing the minutes and seconds.
As for the export: Do you see the little purple triangle in the timeline, pointing to the left? That's your End of Song marker. Does it sit at the right position? If not, move it there and try exporting again. And since this little ******* is playing tricks sometimes, a more exact way of exporting is using the circle function and setting the circle section exactly from the beginning to the end of what you want to export.
Oh, and by the way: How long is your recording? If it exceeds 999 bars, then GB will only export until bar 999, although your whole recording is still there.
Come back and tell us what you found out!

  • View jobs with SQL Developer and export to file with delimiter

    Hi,
is there a way to view, create and alter my database jobs with SQL developer?
And is it possible to export tables, views or simple queries to file delimited different from the CSV standard?
    Diego.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!!
To select data from a table or a view you must use the SELECT sql command. Example to get the data from your view you can
select ZMATNUM,ZMATCUR,ZMATATTR from ZMATERIALAs you have said you are using SQL Developer just execute the above query in your sql developer and it will show the data. Right click the grid and export the data to excel file.
