1st Generation 2GHz G5 & Web Cams

I have a G5 dual 2GHz Tower from I think 2003 or so. Just purchased a Creative Live! Optia AF Web Camera. It seems to work with all my applications but not sure it is 100% in terms of speed. I believe my G5, all 3 USB ports should be USB 2.0. This camera is also USb 2.0. So, I believe it should be doing 480MB speed like USB 2.0 does. I am not sure what the iSights with firewire were but my guess they were 400MB speed so these USB 2.0 should be equivelant.
Anyway, I launch my Quicktime Pro 7 and do a recording with it. I talk and the mics pick it all up. Video looks decent. Just choppy when I play it back and watch it as I record. For example, if I move around, my lips don't look fluid so it does not look like a nice smooth movie would, looks more like I am playing it over the internet at slow speeds.
Is this how web cams look? They record but choppy or should the recording look smooth and lifelike and not choppy?
I do a few karate chop moves and move my hands around and it all looks choppy as heck.
Just curious if this is the norm. When I play it back in Quicktime and have it show data, it shows recorded 30fps and playback is normally around the same. Sometimes more like 27fps to 30fps. It changes around as it records.
So, does 30fps supposed to look fluid?
tj

Is your camera plugged directly into the computer or is it through a hub?
I have an iSight with my G5. I just made a simple 15 second recording and it was fluid and chop-free. I used to have a Powerbook G4 (1.67) and movies on that were fluid as well. This is both in QT Pro and iMovie HD. So its either the camera or some USB camera driver issues. I mention the USB drivers because USB cameras were not always natively supported. So maybe there's still some bugs in there.
Hope that helps.

  • 1st Generation iPod Touch No Longer Recognized by Windows 7 PC

I have a 1st generation iPod Touch (no camera) that can no longer connect to my Windows 7 pc. Plugging in the iPod via USB does not trigger any sort of dialog box in Windows and it doesn't trigger a message saying a device has been connected; the iPod does not show up in either iTunes, Computer, Device Manager or Devices and Printers, either as an Apple mobile device or an unrecognized device, and does not charge when connected to USB (though the wall-charger still works). As far as my computer is concerned this iPod does not exist. I had successfully synced this iPod as recently as one week ago and am ready to pitch the thing in the garbage if I can't find a solution.
I have the latest version of iTunes as well as the most up-to-date Windows updates. I have already followed all the steps listed here (iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows) multiple times with no success.
I also have tried following the instructions listed here (Re: For those Windows users who suddenly cannot see their device in iTunes. Here's a solution that has worked.) but this also hasn't worked since the iPod isn't recognized in the Device Manager and I am not given the option of updating the drivers, manually or otherwise.
I have uninstalled/re-installed iTunes and all related Apple services multiple times. The Apple Mobile Device Service is functioning normally. iTunes diagnostics indicate that there is no device connected no matter what I do. I have reinstalled my Windows USB drivers and changed the settings on the USB Root Hub in the Windows Device Manager to disable power saving options.
I have tried connecting the device to another PC which detects and syncs another apple device (iPhone 5) with no issues, and had the exact same result: the computer doesn't even recognize an iPod is connected.
I can't update the Apple Mobile Device Drivers because the device is not recognized by my machine in any way.
I even completely reset my iPod and that just left me with a unactivated iPod that still isn't detected.
I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style advice that people seem to offer on this forum. If anybody has dealt with this issue and has any serious advice other than "re-install iTunes," it would be much appreciated.

You said "I am really unbelievably fed-up with the useless "try checking your USB cable"-style"
    - Did you try another cable?
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.

  • 1st Generation iPod as Camera Storage

I just bought the Belkin Media Reader and it works fine on my iPod Photo, connect the reader to the iPod and transfer photos...Great! Now I want to use my 1st Generation iPod as a storage devise for my camera, it has software version 1.5, according the Belkin instructions you would need version 2.1 or later for this devise to work. I also need to convert the firewire to a dock style connection, has anyone done anything like this? Let me know what you think!! Thanx, Jeff

i locked my Ipod 1st generation in zombie farm went to the toilet came back tried to unlock it but i cant screen was blank i have tried everything please help

If you have tried everything, then by definition, there is nothing else to try.
Perhaps if you explained what you tried someone can help.
If you have actually tried everything, then there is nothing anyone can do to help.
    Did you try reset?

  • We had a Ipad 1st generation IOS5.  Added second email address for Messaging.  Tested and message came from 1st email address.  How do you get the second address to be the sender?

Have a 1st generation Ipad IOS5 and added a second email address for messaging.  Tested sending a message to my Iphone and it was received as being sent by the first email address.  How do you select the second email address as the sender of a message?

    Hello slapshot13scotty,
The information below details where to adjust both where messages are sent from and received.
Receive iMessages using another email address:
Go to Settings > Messages > Receive At > Add Another Email.
Specify the phone number or Apple ID email address that appears in the “from” field when you start a new conversation:
Go to Settings > Messages > Receive At > Caller ID.
Existing conversations aren’t affected when you change this setting.

  • IPod 1st Generation Replacement

    Hi
I returned my 1st Generation iPod to apple in December and it was collected from my home address by UPS.  I am English but live in France.  I had an email last week saying that it had been repaired and shipped.  They provided me with a shipping tracking reference which when you click on the link, it says invalid web address.
They stated a 2 day delivery which has long since passed and I have no product and no tracking facility.
The email came from a 'no reply at Apple' address and I have no way of finding out who to contact and where.  I believe it was shipped to Holland for repair.
Does anybody know of an easy way to contact apple because I am about to blow my top trying to sort this out.
When you go on the status of repair page it states shipped and if I try to get on line assistance it says the 90 day period has expired!!!  That is for the replacement serial number.
    Anyone have any ideas?

Apple uses the Repair ID as a refference number for UPS shipping. Go to the UPS site and track by refference number sighting your repair ID. I've heard instances where Apple are missing a number in the tracking info they send out to customers. Hope this helps.

  • USB 1.1 web cam?

I have a 1st generation 17" 1GHz G4 PowerBook. I'd like to connect a USB webcam to it but, as it only has USB1.1, it appears as though all the USB2 webcams may be simply incompatible...but are they?
Does anyone have any experience with any USB1.1 webcams? I'd like to use Skype but I understand that any video will be at a low frame rate.
If I need to scrounge up an old FireWire iSight I suppose I can do so but I'd like to find a USB1.1 solution.
    Suggestions are welcomed.

I pressed Allow, before pressing Allow background was grey, after Allow
it gets black. I see the name of this camera on list. I also try another
camera from Logitech (I can't remember what name was it, but one of the
newest) and everything works which suggest it is strictly related with
this specific camera which I'm using.

  • HT4972 upgrade 1st generation ipod

I have the 1st generation ipod touch and its fast becoiming obsolate as I am no longer able to download the latest applications as I'm advised I need to have the software updated, I have since had it reset and updated on the apple web portal but the latest I can have seems to be version 2.2.1. I will require IOS version 3xx and above. How do I proceed to upgrade my software?

iOS 3.1.3 is the last update for the 1G. You get that here:

  • IPad and iPhone Remote app no longer see my AppleTV (1st Generation)

For months, I've been using the Remote app from my iPad to control my first generation AppleTV. When I got an iPhone 4 and got the Remote app for it, I tried to do the same thing, but now AppleTV will not recognize my iPhone 4, and no longer recognizes my iPad. All it will allow me to use is the ****** little remote that came with it.
    How do I fix this?
    Notes:
AppleTV is synchronized with my iTunes library
Home Sharing on the PC is turned on
Remote App tells me to "turn on home sharing on the AppleTV from the Computers section of the Settings menu" but no such option exists.

AppleTV1 doen't use Home Sharing.  Try this:
    Apple TV (1st generation)
Connect iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to a Wi-Fi network that is connected to the local network that your Apple TV also connected to.
Open the Remote app on your mobile device.
Select Add an iTunes Library in the Remote settings screen. Remote will then display a 4 digit passcode.
On Apple TV, select Settings from the main menu, select General and then Remotes.
Select the name of your iPhone or iPod touch.
Enter the 4 digit passcode. Use the volume up/down keys on the Apple Remote (Infrared) to change the number that is displayed and the track next/back keys to switch digits.
    Click Done.
Remote app will be paired with Apple TV and you can begin browsing your library using Remote and select a piece of content to play.

  • Time to upgrade my 1st Generation Airport Extreme?

As the title says, thinking it's time to upgrade my 1st Generation Airport Extreme (Draft 'n') to the latest 5th generation model, just to be clear my existing Extreme is the current form factor white square design and not the very earlier dome version (although I did have one of those too once upon a time).
Here's my thinking/question, current Extreme has been a great trusty workhorse since new, reliable and generally rock solid performance, however a recent upgrade to a super fast 'Fibre To The Home' internet connection is making me think it's time for an upgrade to solve low speed/throughput issues with the current Extreme setup.
With my current iMac networked to the wall mounted Fibre (1000 Mbps ethernet) router via Cat 5e I'm getting amazing speeds on speedtest.net (i.e 760 Mbps down and 228 Mbps up), however when wirelessly connected to the Extreme with my iPhone 4S and MacBook (Black) I get the following speedtest.net results:
iPhone 4S: 17 Mbps down and 34 Mbps up
Macbook: 24 Mbps down and 63 Mbps up
(Interesting that the uploads seem to have better connection/throughput than the downloads, normally the opposite applies?)
I understand that the current Extreme is somewhat crippled as it features 100 Mbps Ethernet ports (latest models have 1000 Mbps), however the wireless speeds still seem way below what I would expect (i.e. nearer 100 Mbps), both the 4S and Macbook are within feet of the Extreme.
The Extreme is set to 'n' only 2.4 Ghz, bridge mode (letting the wall mounted Fibre router do all the routing/DHCP work) via Ethernet Cat5 from one of the 4 Ethernet ports on the wall mounted Fibre router to the Extreme WAN port, tried various channels, 1, 6 and 11. Current Firmware 7.6.1 on the extreme. I have also disabled the wireless connection/network on the Fibre router to avoid any possible interference with the Airport network.
So my main question is, should I look to upgrade to the latest Extreme model, will this improve the wireless speeds, based on my setup what wireless speeds could/should I expect with a new Extreme, or am I missing/overlooking something within the current setup?
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks John, this certainly helped.
    Speedtest.net results:
2.5 Ghz n: 19 Mbps down and 53 Mbps up
5.0 Ghz n: 28 Mbps down and 58 Mbps up
It also came to light that I wasn't using the best of the speedtest.net servers to do my testing, by accident I selected a different one (Newbury UK - Vodafone) to the one I had been using (Milton Keynes UK) and the Newbury server indicated download speeds of around 50 Mbps, which I feel much happier with.
Seriously considering a new Extreme for the simultaneous 'n' networks, 1000 Mbps ports and no doubt improved components, antenna etc.
Will report back if/when set up.
    Thanks again.

  • IPod Touch 1st Generation stopped charging and sync.

Hi, I have an iPod Touch 1st Generation that I bought in november 2007(just when it came to the stores) and now, 4 years lates it started to present some problems, first, it stoped to sync with the iTunes, then my computer(mac and PC) stoped reconizing it and now it stoped to charge, as in computer as in the wall. I don't know if it's important but I tryed to install Installer (the old and hacker store with some poor apps) but I coudn't, and an weird app called Zibri's Blog is in it and I can't erase... I can't restart my iPod... actually I can't do ANYTHING! And I love my iPod, I don't want to buy another one now... Is there ANY kind of solution or someone else have ever saw something like this? • Ipod Nano 1st generation compatible to Vista?

I have a 1GB 1st generation Ipod Nano. Just got a new PC with windows vista, cant get windows to find driver for Ipod Nano, also wont find driver with CD that came with Ipod. Ran the exe file right off the cd and followed the install prompts (name, user id, serial #, etc.) but windows still wont recognize it. Tried re-downloading Itunes but when I plug in Ipod, found new hardware window keeps popping up. Is the 1st generation Ipod not copmpatible with Vista, or do I need to downlaod the right driver? I looked at apples website and cant seem to find it, but I admit it's a difficult website to navigate.

You can do as you wish.  Apple can withdraw the program at any time.

  • Ipod touch 1st generation battery lifespan?

how long does the average lifespan of the ipod touch 1st generation last? ive had mine since around the time it first came out, i havnt noticed any loss in battery life at all but i was just wondering how long it would take before i would actually have to replace the battery, and if i have to send it in to replace the battery will anything happen to my songs/apps/videos/pictures?

The music is stated by apple to last 22 hours on a full charge for music and 5 hours for movies. The battery efficiency goes down to 80% after about 400 cycles, but your battery could bust at any time, but don't worry about it. It'll be awhile till your battery has to be replaced. If you replace the battery it won't effect any of the content on your iPod as long as it's all on iTunes.
