1x Exchange 2010 on-premises hosts 2 domains/companies, they've now split and will be hosted at separate locations.. autocomplete & NDR's

Per the subject. CompanyA and CompanyB shared the same Exchange 2010 Server. They have close ties but have outgrown the shared offices so CompanyB has moved 2 miles down the road. There is no link between the offices.
CompanyA is keeping the original server, CompanyB has moved to new premises with their own Forest/Domain/DC and a shiny new Exchange 2010 Server.
I'll be using new-mailboxexportrequest / new-mailboximportrequest to move all e-mail data to CompanyB and then creating x500 proxy addresses so that at least at CompanyB they can all reply to CompanyB mails. That helps CompanyB continue to be able to respond
to old CompanyB e-mails/meeting requests.
But CompanyA and CompanyB will still want to e-mail each other regularly, I haven't done the move yet but past experience suggests that due to auto-completes (and how Outlook/Exchange functions internally) they're likely to experience a lot of bounce-backs
e-mailing each other, especially responding to pre-split mail.
I'm likely to use NK2Edit and a login script to automatically remove the other company from the autocompletes so new e-mails should go through okay but are there any other solutions for CompanyA responding to old CompanyB mails and meeting requests
(and vica versa?) Special Send Connector with the old X400 addresses? Anything?
Any helps really appreciated.

Hi,
Agree with Jon.Knight. If there is no direct route between company A and company B, they will have to route over the internet.
When you move company B' users to a new forest, the email address will not exist on both sides at the same time then a shared SMTP namespace would work. You can create an SMTP connector on both sides with the local domain defined in the address space.
With this the Exchange server checks locally for the email address and if it does not find it defined locally, it will route the email to the other Exchange server which will in turn deliver it to a local mailbox. Make sure both sides have this shared
SMTP address space defined in the accepted domains. The address space needs to be listed as an Internal Relay.

• Exchange online and Exchange 2010 on-premise calendar availability

I am running a hybrid exchange 2010 on-premise and online exchange environment. The online exchange users cannot see calendar availability of anybody on premise. The on-premise users can see the online exchange availability. I can see the
calendar if the calendar is shared, but trying to setup a meeting or calendar appointment still shows the unavailable through all days.
All of the users are using office 365 for outlook on premise and exchange online. If it is only working one way, could it be an autodiscover issue where it is not configured correctly on our on-premise exchange 2010 or online exchange? Which
side would be causing the issue?

I have done a little more research and ran the following in powershell:

How do I change the originating server to be my exchange server?

• Exchange 2010 DAG netowrk replications issues - Causing database copies to be disconnected and resynchronizing.

My
environment is as follows.
We have 3 exchange 2010 servers.
EX1, EX2, DREX1. All servers are exchange 2010 14.2 build 247.5
EX1 and EX2 have two nics, one LAN and one for BACKUP
The dag is configured to to communicate to all three.
The IP for EX1 is 192.168.100.51 - LAN, switch A; 160.100.3.51 - BACKUP, switch B
The IP for EX2 is 192.168.100.52 - LAN, switch A; 160.100.3.52 - BACKUP, switch B
DREX1 is located in another network. It is in another building connected via vpn. The ip
for DREX1 is 192.170.100.51. There is no BACKUP network for this server
(These are not the actual address, but the concept is similar)
The dag network configuration is as follows.
DAGNetworkDR has a subnet of 192.170.100.0/24; Network Interface of 192.170.100.51
DAGNetwork01 (LAN) has a subnet of 192.168.100.0/24; Network Interfaces of 192.168.100.51
and 192.168.100.52
DAGNetwork02 (BACKUP) has a subnet of 160.100.3.0/24; Network Interfaces of
160.100.3.51 and 160.100.3.52
Last Friday, 3/7/14 something happened.
To lead up to that, I noticed the issue because we have DPM 2010 making 15minute express
full backups of our exchange databases when I reviewed the backup jobs, the
exchange database backups using dpm2010 failed all weekend long starting at
11:00pm that Friday.
The issue that occurred was that the database copies went to a status of Disconnected and
Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, the status would show
Resynchronizing.
All attempts to resolve this with the research methods failed. Deleting the
logs and reseeding failed, suspending, then rebuilding failed.
Creating a new database worked, creating a database copy worked, but seeding the copy
failed. All with the same pattern, a status of Disconnected and
Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, and the status would show
Resynchronizing.
The database was mounted on EX2, and seeding to EX1
DREX1 has no issues.
All the DAG networks were in a good status, all Green and all up. I could ping from
EX1 to EX2 and from EX2 to EX1 on both networks fine.
In the middle of the week, about 3/12/14, we resolved the issue. We rebooted EX1, no
fix, but after rebooting EX2, it all resolved. It did a fail over to DREX1. I think it failed to do the failover to EX1. However, when it came back up, it was happy, it was reseeding slowly. After about an hour and a half, it
was all healthy.
We thought it was all good EXCEPT, on Friday night at 11:00pmish on 3/14/14, the same
issue occurred; a status of Disconnected and Resynchronizing, and after about
30 seconds, the status would show Resynchronizing.
The database was mounted on EX2 and seeding to EX1 again. I did not notice the
issue until I performed my review of the backup jobs again on Monday.
Late Monday morning, my boss and I were looking at more articles, but all the same results,
delete the database copy and reseed. Which we knew would not work.
I mentioned that it was strange because the networks were all up. What made us try the next
scenarios was just "luck" I guess. I made a statement about not remembering
which networks DAG replication took place over. Again, we have a LAN and
a BACKUP network. Bother were listed to use replication, so we decided to
disable replication over the BACKUP network in the EMC. Immediately, the
database copies switch to healthy and started seeding.
Later that evening I enabled replication over the BACKUP network and it failed again with
a status of Disconnected and Resynchronizing, and after about 30 seconds, the
status would show Resynchronizing. I disabled the replication over the
BACKUP network and the database copy went back to healthy
The last round of windows updates were pushed to these boxes the Friday before the
issues began, 2/28/14. I don't believe the updates to be the issue.
Can anyone make any suggestions as to where to look? It worked with the BACKUP
network enabled to so long that is eluding me as to why the issues would start
all of a sudden. I am also confident that the switch configuration for the
BACKUP network has not been changed at all in at least 2-3 months. I am
still open to look at the config. Please help if you can.

Lastly, this is more of a monitoring thing, if anyone can suggest a good way to monitor
the database copies so that I can be alerted when the status changes. We
use WhatsUpGold 16.2 to monitor the devices.
Thanks for any future assistance.

You don't have to enable the Replication on Backup Network.
You should collapse your DAG network.

• I want to learn Exchange 2010 but dont have a domain name

Hello All
I would like to get more hands on experience using Exchange 2010 beyond the basics of creating mailboxes. I would like to do this at home in my lab environment that consist of one AD domain server with a forest functional level of Server 2012 R2. I found
some pretty good install guides. So to get to my question:
I don't have a domain name ex [email protected] is there a way around this? if the email is going to be internal to my lab can I just make something up and use my domain ex
[email protected] or .com
Thanks!!
Phil Balderos

No Problem you can deploy Exchange in your lab, test/try all the features with @mydomain.com or .local, however you won't be able to receive any mails from Internet unless you register your domain and have the proper public DNS records.

Thank you Mohammed,
I think I may get a Domain since its pretty cheap and I would like to broaden my skills as much as possible. With respect to getting a proper public DNS record I would image that I would get from the a domain registration company like godaddy.com

• Can Exchange Online Protection work with Exchange 2010 on-premise

I want to keep my current Exchange 2010 server but switch to Exchange Online Protection for anti-spam.
Is that possible?
Without doing any AD/Azure sync?

Yes to both. With directory synchronization you can have the added benefit of blocking mail to nonexistent recipients.

• Exchange 2010 On-Premises Mailbox Move

We have created another database within a DAG and moved the users from an existing database to the new database. Mailflow is working correctly but we have one issue. The OWA no longer works for these users. If the users tries to logon or if I try to access
their mailbox using OWA the response is "Your mailbox appears to be unavailable. try to access it again in 10 seconds. If you see this error again, contact your helpdesk". Inheritable permissions are set on the user account in AD.
Is there some permissions I need to add to the new database or IIS?
Exchange 2010 SP2
HossFly, Exchange Administrator

Hi hossFly,
Thank you for your question.
We could run the following command:
Clean-MailboxDatabase <databasename>
For example:This example cleans the mailbox database MBD01.
Clean-MailboxDatabase MBD01
If the issue persist, we could run the following command:
New-MailboxRepairRequest -Database "<Mailbxname>" –CorruptionType ProvisionedFolder,SearchFolder,AggregateCounts,Folderview
Then we could restarted MS Exchange Mailbox Assistant to check if the issue persist.
If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

• Exchange 2010 activesync, Personal archive access from Mobile devices like Iphone,IPAD and Android based Phones

Hi,
As of what i have found from different blogs is that all the activesync devices including IPhone , IPAD and Android based phones cannot access online archive/Personal archive in exchange 2010.
Is there any third party app in the market for the above devices which can support access of Online archive?
Thanks in Adavance

There must be a way! Since you can view the online archive through webmail with supported browsers on PC(IE, Firefox, Safari OSx) (so activeX is no must).
All it takes is a browser that can set a different 'agent' and that can interact with the webmail(OWA) website just like Safari on OSx.
I tried different browsers on the iPad, they all display the Online archive, but the navigation is broken. (scrolling by sliding your fingers does not work correct) The result is that you can not open(read) any mail in your online archive.
The browsers we tested and show the online archive but where the navigation doesn't work are:
On iPad:
- Kissmyagent
- Atomnic(the free AND payd version)
On android:
app: 'OWA for Android' (does not show the online Archive)
Maybe someone can come up with a browser and/or app that can show the online archive!

• Exchange 2010 Enterprise - Online Archive not visible in office 2013 professional plus and mailbox shared

Hi!
Outlook 2013 professional plus was working perfectly weeks ago, then out of nowhere new profiles doesn't have visible in Outlook the online archive and the shared mailboxes, however it shows up in OWA.
It was given full permission for those users with no results, online archive is enabled, profiles were already deleted and recriated.
The older profiles work perfectly.
We have the services ActiveSync, Autodiscover, Outlook Anywhere, OWA and they're all working with no errors.

Hi Tiago,
From your description, OWA works work, so your Exchange server is ok.
I recommend you check the following thing for troubleshooting:
Please configure a mail profile with another user who has an Online Archive on that machine and check the result. If it works well, there is something with the problematic mailbox. If the issue persists, the issue is related to your Outlook.
Hope it helps.

• ADRMS Server 2012 with exchange 2010, I have created some new templates, they are showing up in owa but not Outlook 2013

I cannot figure out why my templates do not show up in Outlook, when I manually update the AD RMS task scheduler to run the templates get pulled and placed into the C:\Users\%%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\DRM\Templates
but when I launch outlook they are not displayed.
Has anyone encountered this type of problem before?

Hi,
Generally, the default Outlook Templates (.oft) is located in drive:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates.
Firstly, please make sure the Templates have been located in the C:\Users\%%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\DRM\Templates path of your local machine. If it is there, please copy and paste the new Templates to the default Outlook Templates location.
Then we can right-click the Folder to select Properties in Outlook, and click dropdown next to "When posting to this folder, use:" and select the custom template form in the list. For more information about Outlook Templates, please refer to:

• Exchange 2010 Domain Name change in a multitenant (hosted) environment

Is there a way to change a domain name from one of our domains?
We have exchange 2010 SP1 in hosted mode so we have several domains we deliver to our customers.
However, now 1 of our customers would like to change their domain name.
For example abc.com should become 123.com
To make it even a litle bit more complicated, in the first instance they want to add the 123.com domain so they receive emails on both domains. After a month they want to delete the old domain ( abc.com ) and keep on receiving emails on the new domain
( 123.com ).
Please keep in mind that the other domain that we also provide must not be affected.
Any help would be grate as I am stuck on this one.
I simply don't know the correct powershell commands.

Hi Peter,
I read the email and as I was writing a reply I thought by myself, why not share it with the rest.
I am sure other people need this to so I copy paste it in here :-):
===================================
Hi Peter,
If this helps you out, the only thing I want back is for you to help 3 others and share this message so they help out other people aswell. :-D peace
Unfortunately there is no way according to microsoft ( as far as I am aware ) to make a domain change in the hosted edition and for this reason I had to figure it all out myself.
I am no scripter so I didn't build a tool for it, sorry.
I will send you all the information you need.
1- add the accepted domain: New-AcceptedDomain -Name NameOfOrg -Organization ForWhichDomainWillThisBeTheAcceptedDomain -DomainName NewDomain.Eu -DomainType Authoritative
2- to create an alias ( tenant admin )
Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -EmailAddresses @{add=$_.smtp1}}
The text file has to be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
firstalias,newemailaddress
secondalias,newemailaddress
etc.
3- Make the new alias the primarysmtpaddress ( main exchange admin ):
Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -primarysmtpaddress $_.smtp1 -emailaddresspolicyenabled $false}
The txt file should be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
domain\alias1,newemailaddress
domain\alias2,newemailaddress
etc.
4- Rename the alias ( tenant admin ):
Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -alias $_.smtp1}
The txt file should be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
alias1,newalias1
alias2,newalias2
etc.
5- Change UserPrincipalName (main exchange admin ). This is the username to sign in to OWA
Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -userprincipalname $_.smtp1}
The txt file should be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
domain\alias1,newemailaddress
domain\alias2,newemailaddress
etc.
6- Change displayname (tenant admin ):
Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -displayname $_.smtp1}
The txt file should be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
alias1,displayname
After a while you might to remove the previous email address ( i waited for this for 3 months! 1 month is way to short for people to communicate it, trust me.. ):
7- Import-CSV name-of-textfile.txt | foreach-object {Set-Mailbox $_.alias -EmailAddresses @{remove=$_.smtp1}}
The txt file should be in the following format:
alias,smtp1
alias1,OldEmailAddress1
alias2,OldEmailAddress2

• Exchange 2010 and 2013 coexisting in separate trusted AD Forests, same email domain.

Im in a bind here.
Here is my scenario: We have domain 1, lets call this old-domain.corp that has an exchange server 2010 with MBX, CAS and HT role. We created a new domain, lets call this new-domain.corp that we migrated all our users AD accounts using ADMT from our old domain
to our new-domain.corp. We have both domains trusted two way, and we converted all our mailboxes on our old exchange 2010 server in our old domain to “linked mailboxes” with the owners of the mailboxes belonging to their new-domain.corp accounts.
This all works well currently.
What im trying to do now is have mailboxes live natively in the new-domain.corp on the new exchange 2013 server (only MBX role) I just built, whilst still having mailboxes working on our old-domain.corp while we migrate the mailboxes to the new. What
is the best way to achieve this? Right now I can create new mailboxes on the new server and send emails (using owa), but receiving is an issue since once mail is routed to my exchange 2010 (old) server it doesn’t keep going to the new exchange 2013 server.
Some details
Exchange 2010 – old-domain.corp – MBX, CAS, HT – latest rollup and exchange updates as of a week ago.
Exchange 2013 – new-domain.corp trusted two way with old domain - MBX
140 users - Single email domain name space
All on premise
Thank you,

Hi
In your case first you would need to bring Exchange 2013 CAS into the new domain.
Point all the web services URL to the Exchange 2013 CAS server
Redirect your firewall to receive all the emails to Exchange 2013 server
Then you would need to preparemove request and then once the objects are created then you would need to run new move request to move all the mailboxes from old domain to the new domain

• What is required to integrate Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 (On premise) to SharePoint O365?

The client has his AD and Exchange 2010 on premise and would like to integrate with Office 365 SharePoint.
I know it is possible to integrate SharePoint On premise to Exchange Online but how possible and what is required to create it in the opposite way while using AD and Exchange On Premise to SharePoint Office 365?
Thanks!

This is not possible. The only integration point for SharePoint Online is Exchange Online.

• Message looping between Exchange 2003 & Exchange 2010 after domain type changed to internal relay

Hi
We have a coexistence environment where we are currently migrating from Exchange 2003 to 2010 and have 80% of the users already on the Exchange 2010 platform. This is all within the same AD forest, let's call it FOREST1.AD.
The problem I'm seeking help about is a message routing problem we had this morning where messages bound for the Exchange 2003 users started looping between Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010. The problem started as a result of changing the accepted domain
type to 'internal relay domain' for the purposes of establishing SMTP namespace sharing with an external Exchange environment (different forest, let's call it FOREST2.AD). The expectation was that after changing the domain type from authoritative to 'internal
relay domain', Exchange 2010 would route messages for unknown recipients to the external environment and that would be the only effect of the change. The message routing to the external environment worked completely OK. However, later we noticed that Exchange
2003 stopped delivering messages to its local users and started routing them to Exchange 2010 which would route the messages back to Exchange 2003 as that's where the recipients existed, only to have Exchange 2003 send them back to Exchange 2010 again.
The Send connector to route the messages, for the shared namespace, to the external environment used the Exchange 2010 server as the source server. It makes sense and is expected that Exchange 2003 would send messages for any unknown recipients to Exchange
2010 for onward delivery via the Send connector. But it is not expected for Exchange 2003 to not deliver messages to its own users using the store driver and instead routing them on to Exchange 2010.
We fixed the problem by reversing the change and not only changed the domain type back to authoritative but also removed the Send connector for the specified shared namespace. However, we do need to understand why this problem happened and how to stop it
from happening.
We did test the shared SMTP namespace configuration using a test domain before applying the change to the domain that is used for production email traffic. Test users on Exchange 2003 with email addresses on the test domain did not experience this looping
problem. This has been tested again after the production domain experienced the problem and there is no looping for the test domain. The only difference I noticed between the configuration for the test domain and the production domain is that while both domains
existed as accepted domains of type 'internal relay domain' in Exchange 2010, there was a difference in configuration in Exchange 2003 where the test domain was not present on the recipient policy at all and the production domain was present there.
This also makes me wonder if Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 in the same organization keep a separate configuration to determine which domain they are authoritative for. When you install Exchange 2010, it does add all the domains on the recipient policies
to the accepted domains configuration but any new domains you add in accepted domains in Exchange 2010 are not added to the legacy recipient policy object.
Can someone please help clarify these grey areas and explain why the message looping was created and how to avoid it. I'm happy to provide any further information.
Thanks
Nauman.

Hello,
Why do you want to use the 'internal relay domain' authentication?

• Exchange 2010 in a DSfW Domain?

Hi
Can i install Exchange 2010 in a DSFW only Domain or does i need a real AD Domain and then make a trust between the two domains?

Hi Ren,
Installing Exchange 2010 directly into a DSfW domain will not work and is not supported. You won't even get passed the prep stage as the schema extensions that are required won't get accepted by the DSfW controllers.
Best way to go about this (if you already have DSfW setup) is to create a basic AD and define a cross forest trust between the two. Install Exchange 2010 into AD and provision the users from the DSfW domain over the trust.
If you don't have DSfW setup, using IDM (the bundle edition is licensed along with GroupWise/OES) is another option.
Cheers,
Willem
