1x PC (Windows XP Home SP2), 1x 4thG 40g iPod, 1x 2g Nano - Data Cables?
Hi, I have had the 4th generation 40g iPod for quite a while no with no major hiccups but have bought my daughter a 2g Nano for Christmas and am concerned about any implications of installing the 2nd iPod to my PC. I've never chosen to update iTunes as prompted regularly as i did have problems with initial set up of my 4thG 40g iPod but now i know i am some way behind on the version of iTunes that i am running. So, my questions, so far, are:
1) If i install the newer version of iTunes from the disc enclosed with the Nano will i loose the music files that i already have on my PC/iTunes? Will the newer version of iTunes overwrite the older version but leave the music files intact?
2) The data cable to attach the Nano to the PC (iPod Dock Connector to USB 2.0 cable) is identical to the one that i use to attach my 4thG 40g iPod to the PC... can i use the same cable to transfer files/charge for both of these iPods?
3) Before i install the newer version of iTunes should i move my iTunes library to another place on my PC just in case?
Any other helpful advice or tips on how to run both of these wonderful machines on my one dinky PC would be extremely greatfully received... thank you
2g Nano and 4thG 40g iPod Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 installed
...bit of an update since the last post i made:
I have now managed to update my iTunes to the latest version and have also installed the Nano onto my PC. I've even managed to trasnfer some music files onto the Nano also...
However, my problem lies with the iTunes library set up.
The 4thG 40g iPod i mentioned is used by a 35 year old hip hop fan who doesn't need to worry about Parental Guidance and until now has updated his iPod with ALL the songs that are in the library. Now i have a 11 year old daughter who likes typical 11 year stuff but i don't want to trawl thro 40g worth of music to find the stuff she can listen to .. whilst the 35 year old hip hop fan doesn't want to listen to tracks on random only to find he's got girls alound on his iPod!!
Is there anyway i can make seperate libraries for the 2 different iPod models? I have tried going into the iPod options when each of the iPods have been connected and have changed the path to the library but this hasn't helped so far...
again, any help would be truly appreciated...thank you

Cannot connect via cable on Windows XP home SP2
Good Afternoon,
Maybe you can assist me here.
I cannot connect via cable my N91 (4 gb hdd) to Windows XP Home SP2. I can however connect via cable to my work computer which has the OS Windows XP Pro sp2.
In both cases both OS's are up to date, I have updated the phone OS to v2.10.013 RM-43. I am using the most up to date drivers that is available on nokia.com as well as the current ed of PC Suite (6.82.22.0)
The following is the steps I followed in both cases starting with XP Pro
1. Installed Drivers
2. Installed PC Suite
3. When prompted by PC Suite connected Phone via cable to Computer, further install steps were required. No reboot required. PC Suite then picked up phone
XP Home
Followed steps 1 + 2 in the same order
3. Connected N91 to XP Home computer, after driver install activity rebooted computer as requested. Disconnected N91 On reboot to desktop, in PC Suite I clicked on Get connected. Select Cable connection when prompted attached cable to computer and then to phone, on the phone select PC Suite. .
At this point I get the hour glass and nothing happens, Next is ghosted. It has been like this for 20 mins.
I have uninstalled both the drivers and the software. For some reason the updater can connect to the phone.
Can you advise on what I can do.Hi
Sounds lik ethe PC is having issues seeing it. Try this

Setup.exe from Boot Camp won't work with Windows Xp Home SP2
Hi,
I just bought the great MacBook Pro. So I work over years in Windows it's absolutliy necessary to migrate my old System to MacBook. I succeeded in cloning my old installation completly to the MacBook and Windows is activated. when I start windows, of course no MacBook drivers are installed, so I have only a minimum of functionality. Now I want to start the BootCamp to install the drivers. But if I start "Setup.exe" it's ending immediately with: There were errors... before Boot camp could be initialized.
I downloaded the newest BootCamp (3.1) and start it, the program crashes!
I can't get it working!!! What have I to do - please help me!
I use Windows XP Home SP2.
Thanks! If you didn't try installing Boot Camp from your OS X disc, try that first.
From what you wrote it sounds like you somehow cloned your old install of windows over to a fresh partition. Depending on how you did this, the problem might lie here.
First, what version of OSX are you running?
If your MacBook Pro is new, it should come with Snow Leopard, which wouldn't explain the problem.
How exactly did you clone windows over?
Depending on how you cloned windows, your easiest solution might be to back up any files and applications you need from windows, remove the current Windows partition, and create a new partition and installation of Windows through Boot Camp on OSX. Normally Boot Camp should install its drivers after a successful installation of Windows. -
Mega PC865 DELUXE - Problems installing Windows XP Home SP2
Hi - I have a PC865 Deluxe - (celeron 2.8ghz Celeron, 512mb Crucial Ram) - and a Maxtor S-ATA 80GB hard drive - trying to install windows XP Home Edition - and it boots from CD rom and starts the Windows Setup - but it the windows install fails to recognize the hard drive, I've also tried with a seagate 80GB ATA drive and it fails to find that too.
The bios is recognizing the drives fine - just the windows install fails (and as a result eventually comes up saying Unable to mount boot volume).
I have tried the hard drives in another pc (emachines) and windows is quite happy to start installing on that one - just not on the MEGA PC 865. Is this a case of updating the bios to 1.3 - or is there any other possible cause.
Any help would be much appreciated
BBMany thanks for all your help,
I have just tried a new seagate drive 120GB - and its now installing fine. Thanks for the advice its helped me lot - can now enjoy the new box.

IT help slowing down windows xp home sp2
When clicking IE6 to get to a browers, it's very slow or does not work. When I un-check itune help fron the startup box in msconfig. and re-boot, IE6 works OK. Any solution? I'm using XP Home SP2
Debbie, you may have reasons for using IE, but it's really NOT a good program. It allows all kinds of spyware and other evil issues in WinXP. I HIGHLY recommend using a free alternative such as Firefox. It's much more secure and has many more features.
It could be that something you've downloaded through IE is slowing your computer down, instead of iTunes. I run the same thing you do, with a 1.8 mhz processor, and notice no slowdown what-so-ever.
You may also want to try running some type of spyware catcher to see if that's your issue.
Good luck to you! -
10g2 Install problem with Windows XP Home SP2
Greetings, total noob here. I decided to install oracle as a personal growth experiment, following the directions here:
[link]http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_single/install/wininst/wininst_otn.htm#a[link]
The database was installed, the users "SH","OE","HR" unlocked.
The only one I can log on with = SH
The POST INSTALLATION instructions tell how to setup a new user that belongs to the group "ORA_DBA" via the Administrative Tools, Computer Management.
Here's a problem - I don't have "Local Users and Groups" available in Computer Management. How can I accomplish this?
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
DaveHere's a problem - I don't have "Local Users and Groups" available in Computer Management. How can I accomplish this? That's why XP Home isn't supported :-/ You might be able to google for "Users and Groups in XP Home" and hack your way through it. I avoid XP Home like the plague (and don't have any installed) so unfortunately I can't walk you through it.

"Requirements: Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2"
I do not yet own an IPod Nano, but I am planning on buying one. The question that I need to know is about the wording of the requirements for Windows XP. It says XP Home or Pro with Service Pack 2, but I don't know whether that means it requires Windows XP Home (without SP2) or Windows XP Pro with SP2; or if it requires Windows XP Home or Pro, both needing SP2 installed. I have XP Home with no Service Pack installed, and do not want to install it due to a conflict it has with another program that I use on my computer. If anyone could help me with this, thank you very much. Also, if you have Windows XP Home, please post if your IPod Nano is working and if you have SP2 or not. Thank you.
Don't worry, you can install iTunes on Windows 7. Just make sure the recipient knows to download the correct version of the installer.

Error message downloading j2se 1.5.0 on windows XP home edition (SP2)
Hello:
I am getting the following error message attempting to install the j2se 5.0 on my windows XP home edition (SP2):
"Error JavaTM installer
The installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so please try installing at a later time as these file might be only temporarily unavailable."
There is a bug report:
Bug ID: 6237992
Tested Bundle: 5.0u2_b09 JDK iftw on staging site
http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
Tested O/S: XP-Home (sp2)
Problem:
The installer throws error messages. I tried on three different
XP-Home (sp2) machines in our lab. It throws error message the very first or second time and after that, it seems to work fine.
Steps to reproduce:
1) On XP-Home(sp2) machine, try to download and install the JDK iftw bundle from
http://webwork.sfbay/j2se/1.5.0/download.jsp
2) During the installation the first or second time, one of the following messages thrown:
A) "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package"
B) Error - Java Installer
"This installer cannot continue because the files necessary for installation are unavailable. If trying to install a beta or older version, please check http://java.sun.com/j2se to determine if it is still supported. If so, please try installing at a later time, as these files might be only temporary unavailable"
This problem seems to occur on XP-Home(sp2). When error message pops up, keep trying it, it 's eventually OK. It may confuse consumers at the first two times.
xxxxx@xxxxx 2005-03-09 05:11:47 GMT"
I have tried the downloading five times to no avail, both by double clicking, and using the windows run utility. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
ThanksI am getting the same error when opening the J2se Development Kit 5.0 Update 8 after I press the Run button. ( "This installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and than you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer package").
Is there a solution ?
Thanks,

Windows XP Home with SP2 QUESTION
I've been searching for the answer for the past 45 minutes and can't seem to find it on the net. I turn to you now - as I've had good luck having my questions answered on this forum.
Here we go :
I've just ordered Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 from Amazon.com and would like to know how many PC's can I install it on simultaniously without running into any kind of problems. Someone told me that it's up to 2 separate computers that it can be installed on - I just wanted to make sure, since I want to use it on my MacBook and my girlfriends MacBook as well.
Thank you in advance for your time and helpyou probably need to purchase an additional license, unless you don't plan to run windows update on one of the computers. if you go through with the whole registration, microsoft will probably disable one of the computer's key, at which point I think windows will stop working after 30 days.

No wireless access with Windows XP Pro (SP2) on Macbook Pro
Hello,
Just installed Windows XP Pro (SP2) on my new Macbook Pro using Bootcamp Beta. The installation has gone fine with the exception of wireless access to the internet through my Airport home network.
I've tried all the other configuraton wizards on XP...no joy.
The three other macs in the house (2 wireless, 1 ethernet) and one Windows laptop (wireless) are all fine and dandy.
Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks

Select Manage
Click on Device Manager
Make sure that your Ethernet Adapters are working properly
If there is an red X or a yellow ! next to any ethernet adapter then try to reinstall the drivers.
(you can reinstall the drivers via the installation cd or double click on the hardware device under device manager. there should be a reinstall drivers button in there. point it to the CD that you burned from bootcamp)
(there will be a couple of devices that are not working properly.)

Installation of Patch Set 9.2.0.7 on Windows XP Pro SP2 fails
When I tried to apply patch set 9.2.0.7 to my 9.2.0.5 installation on a computer with MS Windows XP Pro SP2, shortly after the selection of the target Oracle home directory the installer told me to shut down a large number of Windows processes (like RAS, RPC, etc., about 30 in total) that are not related at all to the installation.
Am I getting anything wrong? Or is this a bug (as I would suspect)?

csageYou are facing an annoying problem with Oracle installation on Windows.
It seems, some files are locked by
other processes than the Installer process.
The following workaround worked (for me):
Temporarily remove the reference to the Oracle Home at system startup
1. Rename the Oracle Home \bin directory to \bin_save
2. Reboot the system
3. Rename the bin_save directory back to bin again
4. Start patch installation again
