2.00 fee is crazy

I already pay an adminstrative tax on my bill for each phone line that I have , my bill each month is 245.00...plus all the other taxes and surcharges you can think of to charge your customers..  this is to much that i have to pay 2.00 more to pay my bill

OKAY VERIZON, how stupit can you be. From the looks of this fee you are not thinking about your customers but only of a new way to screw us. You are the highest priced Cell company on the market and now you want more money. All of this because we pay on time. What a joke this is. So today I stopped paperless billing. I will get the bill in my mail box, write a check to you so that you get it on time (I hope). Then once my contract is up, soon on one phone, later on the other. I will end the contract (which we should not have in the first place, because if we like the company we are not going to leave it. I have been with you since 1998) and go to cricket. I can be getting more features for all most 80 a month for the two phones than I am paying you. I did not think of this, every two years I get a new phone with a new contract. How stupit am I? Then you want to add another $2 to my bill which means millions of dollars more per year to a company getting rich off us already? How stupit are you? You are going to lose a lot of customers over this. Times are hard for a lot of people. Prices for food, clothes, housing, gas, and all things have gone up and you Like "Bank of America" and others want to add a fee for using our money to help your company get paid on time or use of a easier  convenience. So we go back to the harder slower, less green, and hope the mail gets to you on time. I am not going to let you take money out of my account. I want to go over my bill before paying you because of hidden charges like this one. Apps that I have not asked for, Higher tax rates, and such. Beside, it is to easy for hackers to get information from companies like yours.
Don't do this. Hear the voice of your customers!!!!

  • $15 PER LINE reconnection fee is crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a Verizon customer FOR YEARS, both home/cable/internet and wireless service, for me and my family (5 wireless lines). Somehow I was switched over to paperless billing last month and forgot to pay the bill. When I never got a bill, I finally requested to get switched back. My payment was obvious late, but I have NEVER been late, so I thought not a big deal. Pay a small fee and keep on going. To my surprise they are going to charge me an additional $75 dollars to RECONNECT A WIRELESS ACCOUNT. Can someone please tell me A) what REAL costs are involved in reconnecting a wireless phone (WIRELESS-duh!!) other than having somebody in accounting check a box on their screen and B) what other phone carrier is a better alternative to Verizon?

The only way you would have received $15 per line reconnect fees would be if your account was suspended due to non payment. It's our responsibilities as customer's to know when our bill is due, because what happens if USPS loses your bill or gives it to the wrong mail box (has happened to me before)? Verizon contacts you if you are late anyways. You receive alerts. If you didn't pay, there are consequences.  Just like if you go overdraft in your bank, you have to pay a fee, you bounce a check, there's a fee.
    From our contracts:
    About My Payments
If you're a Postpay customer and we don't get your payment on time, we will charge you a late fee of up to 1.5 percent per month (18 percent per year) on the unpaid balance, or a flat $5 per month, whichever is greater, if allowed by law in the state of your billing address. (If you choose another company to bill you for our Service [such as another Verizon company], late fees are set by that company or by its tariffs and may be higher than our late fees.) Late fees are part of the rates and charges you agree to pay us. If you fail to pay on time and Verizon Wireless refers your account(s) to a third party for collection, a collection fee will be assessed and will be due at the time of the referral to the third party. The fee will be calculated at the maximum percentage permitted by applicable law, not to exceed 18 percent. We may require a deposit at the time of activation or afterward, or an increased deposit. We'll pay simple interest on any deposit at the rate the law requires. We may apply deposits or payments in any order to any amounts you owe us on any account. If your final credit balance is less than $1, we will refund it only if you ask. You may have to pay a $35 fee to re–activate Service if your Service is terminated , or a $15 fee to reconnect Service if it is interrupted for non–payment or suspended for any reason.

  • Upgrade Fee - damaging brand equity

So here’s the thing. I know that there are ‘rational’ explanations for the $30 ‘upgrade fee’.  And that AT&T and Sprint are charging $36 or $38.
But that doesn’t change the fact that as a loyal Verizon user for 7 years, with multiple phone lines, I FEEL like I’m being ripped off.
And that is the problem with this charge.  It directly impacts the way that customers feel about the brand, and hence the value of that brand. That’s what brands really represent to business - the ability to leverage customer emotion to sell products and services. Coca-cola rather than regular cola.
Damaging the way customers feel about your brand is serious, no matter how much you want to rationalize why the customers are wrong for feeling that.
    Ask Toyota, Nike, Exxon-Mobil etc.
Another crazy thing is that this ‘upgrade fee' is a short-term, reactive strategy.  Verizon say “we’re doing it because the other guys are doing it!" Wow, not exactly a leadership stance. Probably sooner rather than later a court, or a competitor, will change the rules here anyway.  And Verizon will be forced to back-track. Meanwhile a huge ‘ding’ has been made in customer relationship, and the long-term value of the brand will have dropped by some huge multiple of the revenue gained through the ‘upgrade’.
Note to Verizon Wireless CMO - wise up buddy ...

    Note to jandcinny
    A) Since you are posting in the Apple forum I suspect you have an Iphone. So that means even with the upgrade fee you got a $650 Iphone for $230 or 65% off retail price. You'll be hard pressed to find any court that will say that you are being ripped off.
    B) As you noted At&t, Sprint, T-mobile have been doing this far longer and not one case has been brought to court. So this "back-track" you mention will not happen.
    C) A lot of things have fees attached to them. Even getting a pizza delivered to my house has a fee. This is despite the fact the pizza place hires drivers specifically to deliver pizzas. In other words I'm paying an extra fee just for someone to do their job.
    D) Verizon is not obligated to give anyone an upgrade discount AT ALL. Verizon could go the t-mobile route and make you pay full price. Just like all those pre-paid companies do too. And upgrade fee won't look so bad then. And as it has been said if you want to avoid the fee pay full price for the phone.
    E) Please quit bringing up "loyalty". I highly doubt ANYONE has stayed out of loyalty. If they have honestly that isn't very bright.
    F) No one from Verizon is going to read this. Even if they do they are not going to take your suggestion seriously. Do you honestly think someone form Verizon is going to read this and come to some epiphany and do away with the upgrade fee? Do you think your "Note to Verizon Wireless CMO - wise up buddy ..." remark is going to have one iota of an effect? As if  telling the CEO of a multi-billion dollar company to "wise up buddy ..." would be an effective way to get them to change their minds.

  • IPhone and ATT craziness - Advice needed

OK - here is my crazy story - a little long. I'm looking for advise on what to do next.
I've been anxiously awaiting the iPhone 3G arrival to port over my Verizon number. After Apple made their announcement my Verizon razr started to die so I figured I'd port over to ATT (rather then sign a new Verizon contract for a new phone). I got a free Nokia phone on ATT. Then ATT announced the real pricing. I would have been a customer for 32 days on the release day - too late to qualify for the subsidized price. So I planned on porting back to Verizon within my 30 days then back to ATT after release. Just in case I called ATT customer service to explain the situation and they said not to port back and forth - they'll put a note in the account and authorize a subsidized price upgrade since it was so close.
Yesterday I waited 2 hours (starting at 6am) at a local ATT store. When I was ready to purchase they said they would not honor the customer service note and on top of that they claimed I was not eligible to purchase an iPhone at ANY price. They said I would have buy it at the yet unannounced fully unsubsidized price which they're not selling yet. ***? I left irate. I called customer service and their possible solution was to purchase an iPhone on a new line (counts as a new customer) and they would swap the numbers then cancel the new line and dismiss the early termination fee.
So after work I waited 1.5 hours at Apple to get an iPhone on a new number. I called back ATT to swap the numbers and now they tell me this is very difficult and probably impossible and they'll get back to me in 48-72 hours.
I'm in this mess by simply following the advice of ATT customer service. All I want is an iPhone to have my original number. I can't use a new number. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can achieve this if they tell me they can't swap numbers?

    Yes, is very possible.
The speed increase you see may be negligible. The biggest difference you would notice is for large transfer of files or streaming. As for internet browsing it would not make much difference at all, as you internet connection is no where the speed of your LAN.

  • Crazy car journey

So,  with really bad credit in 2012 I financed a vehicle at 24.9% interest (a 6K vehicle). Made every payment paid it off at term.  This year, all the old baddies are falling off, decide to work with a credit union and see what kind of car loan I can get.  8%, 90% LTV, 20K 5 years. Ok, I can work with that, we can get a good reliable used car, and when my credit continues to improve maybe even refi.  So I walk into a local ford dealership to check out some cars on the site. They tell me "Hey, x credit union does our payroll and we run a million loans through them, give me your info and we will call and see if we can shave a couple points off" I say "Hey, I don't want any more hard inquiries, they already have my full credit profile" He says (of course) "No problem".  Sitting there for 5 minutes, what pops up on my phone? Transunion new inquiry!  I stalk the salesman into the finance woman's office, shove my phone in his face and go "WHAT DID I JUST TELL YOU?" I *ahem* politely let the finance person know that I want the inquiry removed, I have preapproved financing and I don't want any more finance applications. I MAY have scared her a little bit, and she begins apologizing profusely. That was unexpected because car finance people are generally the biggest pricks around in my experience. So I sit down and talk to her a bit. She says with my profile I'm tier 2 for Ford credit.  Well, today I am the proud owner of a brand new 2016 Escape with the options I wanted, no money down, a good fair price, and get ready for this.  1.9% interest on a 60 month term.  I have to take back what I've said about car finance people, they aren't ALL liars and crooks. She said "If you let me I will get you this" and she got it. There was 1 more inquiry from Ford, and nothing else from anyone else, no app shotgunning, no pressure tactics, no extra fees (Tax, Title, Doc fee which is 250 in my state). Clear final price for the vehicle, clear financing, and the lowest interest rate I've ever paid for anything, anywhere.  A crazy 24 hours after spending weeks looking for the right used vehicle. I again thank myFico forums for all the education I've gained here, my journey just keeps going up, and a house is next in about 2 years.

How did the sales person pull your report without your permission or ss#? If you gave all that info to the salesperson, they why were you surprised to see the inquiry? I'm glad that it worked out for you and congratulations on that nice new car.Oh no I gave him my information, completely my fault. I told him again and again not to pull my credit and he swore he wasn't going to, that he needed all my info to send off to the credit union.  As said upthread, 2 inquiries is nothing when car shopping, my prior bad experiences with dealers is what made me freak out. I remember at like 21 going to trade a car in, the salesman told me I could just turn the car in to the bank, as a voluntary turn in was different from a repo, and it didn't hurt your credit (I believed him, like the idiot I was at the time).  Then a few months ago we needed a car as our one car died, so I checked one dealer out, who then proceeded to tell me that stuff doesn't fall off your credit ever, so I'd better take their deal right now because it won't get any better. Left and bought something old and used for cash to get through the next few months. In the meantime they had shopped my credit to !!14!! different banks. It had made me wary to say the least.  Now we finally have 2 cars. My partner has been suffering for the last 7 years with us having only one car, which is difficult when you have an small child, I commute far to work, and we live in places without much for public transportation. So I added her to the loan after I was approved, put the title in her name, handed her the keys and said thank you for being amazing.   Great news...good for you.....Congrats.............Enjoy !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cancellation Fee for Smart Phone

I am curious, what is the Cancellation Fee for a Smart Phone? In particular a Droid Incredible 2.
Also would the amount of the Cancellation Fee Matter if the End date was say less than a month away? Its end date is 9/13/2013 which is 5 weeks away.
I am basically wondering if it would be cheaper to just wait until then and pay one more month of the bill on it cancel it right now. The reason I am going to cancel this one phone from our plan,is because we got a new smart phone for my sister, through Verizion again, on its separate plan. She needed a new phone because here old phone was broken and it was a replacement already. Also we found out it would be cheaper for us if she had here own new plan then to continue here plan on our current family plan. Sound strange but is the case. Anyways I am curious as to what the cost is if I remove the phone early.

The Upgrade would actually cost here a little more than the deal for the new phone with a contract. Strange isn't it? But that is what it turned out to be when they went into the Verizon Store. Maybe the Staff at that Verzion Store didn't give them all the options or something but that is what they laid out for them when they asked about there options.
Another issue with the Upgrade is locking in a different plan from our older original plan. Although I do not think that would have mattered for her phone, but it was a fear in our minds non the less. Now my Phone on the other hand matters a lot with an Upgarde for it. I have the original DroidX and on it I still have the Unlimited Data. If I were to ever upgrade they would remove the Unlimited Data. At least that is what everyone has been saying. So for me I will never upgrade my phone. I am really Anti Data-Cap. My smart phone would be useless with a cap of 5gb. I use way more than that every month.
You know our Family Plan right now that we have is actually around $300 a month. Regular charges and not going over anything. Crazy if you ask me. Having this one phone removed will only bring the bill down about $60 but I also am going to be removing my HotSpot soon as well when its contract ends. I know longer need it as I am back home and not away at that job out of state. That will be around another $60 as well. Then it will just be mine and my mothers phone. Hopefully we can work with that bill better. If not then my Mother might decide to just cancel the plan all together.
The fact that my mother might cancel the plan is the main reason why we decided to get my sister her own plan. She still needs the phone.
Anyways after reviewing our current bill and what it would cost with her phone removed and her separate bill, the total is a lot less in the long run. Specials of new contracts and all that.
Thanks you tow for the replies.

  • Yesterday, as today's deadline for filing tax returns approached, I was paralyzed by the inability to create new IRS PDF forms and to retrieve archived ones from a year ago. My computer went crazy. 24 hours later, I am still paralyzed. Can you help?

My computer went crazy yesterday on two occasions involving PDF documents. One dealt with attachments to an email from a bona fide corporation. The other dealt with IRS PDF forms & schedules needed for today's submission.
As both dealt with PDF and had nothing else in common, I suspected my PC had a virus. When I asked a local store technician, he agreed. I turned to Norton, which protects my PC from viruses, and after a few hours of really thorough searching, the computer was found to have no viruses.
Before describing what I call "crazy" computer behavior, you need to know that I have long had IE8 as my default browser but a few weeks ago switched to Mozilla Firefox because IE8 had beome incompatible with some websites from which I get information.
When I received the email from AT&T email service and clicked the first of four icons representing attachments, there was figuratively an explosion on my monitor: a series of new tabs, each called New Tab, burst onto the monitor--but no text or picture. The new tabs appeared faster than I coul kill them. I finally decided just to shut down the computer, hoping they would not reappear when I restarted. I was wrong. After 2 repeats, I decided to forget about the attachments and asked the sender to send them to me by regular mail.
That was no solution for my IRS PDFs. I wanted to complete filling in the various forms and schedules that I had begun months ago so that I could mail them today to the IRS (without having to copy them all in ink). When I tried to open the first one, BOOM. The same thing happened: the blizzard of New Tabs atop blank pages; my IRS form or schedule did not show up. Did the same shutdown/restart routine with the same results.
When I looked at the list of current forms that had to be completed, I noticed something very strange: the icons that began the listing of the documents' names were replaced one by one by Mozilla icons. When I moused over them, they said Firefox HTML. Why?
Starting the day today, I had the same experience. What's more, when I started to retrieve 2012 IRS PDFs from a year ago, the same New Tab tabs appeared and had to be killed, and Mozilla icons replaced whatever icon was there before.
Assuming that the problem arose with Adobe Reader's reading of the PDFs, I contacted Adobe but got no helpful phone number because PDFs are a free service and was directed to use this Forum to get help.
What do I have to do to (a) read and use PDFs in the normal way and (b) remove the Mozilla icon from those that have appeared on icon documents. If Mozilla is the source of the problem, shall I go back to IE8? (In my 80s, I want eventually to replace my old computer but for the time being I must continue using it. It will not take an IE9. Anther possible default browser would be Google Chrome, but I have unfavorable impressions of it because of its intrusiveness, loading my PC with stuff I do not need.
    Can you help?

The problem is absolutely not Reader. The problem is that FireFox has stepped in front of Reader and handles all the PDF stuff - wrongly in your case. FireFox is DESIGNED to take over PDF files. But it is not capable of doing IRS forms!
To start with go back to IE for these forms. When you save them to disk DO NOT DOUBLE CLICK ON THEM until this is fixed. Just open the in the normal way - start Adobe Reader and use Open from the File menu.

  • I would like to know why my bill was manipulated to cause an overage fee.

Halfway through my previous billing cycle, I reduced my data plan from 3GB shared between me and my girlfriend to 2GB shared, so they pro-rated the next bill, showing it to be around $30 cheaper than it would otherwise be. Fast forward to today, I go to check my bill and see that I've incurred a $15 usage fee. However, when I go look at the Usage breakdown, I see the following:
It clearly shows that the billing cycle started on May 20th, and that I made the change to go down to 2GB on the 30th. They decided to set my usage allowance for that period to 1.06400GB even though I'd already used 1.37900GB, leaving a .31800GB overage. Now, of course it shows that from May 31st through June 19th, I was allowed 1.29000GB and used 1.21100GB, clearly showing that even if it were split properly, I'd still be over.....except for the fact that I have text alerts set to notify me when I'm at 50%, 75%, and 90% usage so I can decide when to stop and avoid an overage fee.
They seemingly, intentionally, manipulated the numbers in such a way as to get $15 more out of me that they otherwise wouldn't get because they knew I'd stop using data before an overage occurred.
I am fully aware that $15 isn't a big deal. However, the fact that they apparently manipulated the numbers in such a way as to force an overage fee upon me is just plain wrong and it makes me very angry. The best part about this is that when you add up the 1.06400GB allowance of the first portion and the 1.29000GB of the second portion, that only totals 2.354GB, not the 3GB that the plan originally was. I had chosen to have the changes apply at the beginning of the next billing cycle, so there is no reason for me to have been shorted the 0.646GB of data, much less to have incurred an overage fee.
Is this sort of thing common? Is it a glitch in the system, or was someone manually making these changes with malicious intent? More importantly, can or will they do anything to fix this?Verizon Wireless Customer Support

See, the problem is you're both ignoring two facts.
#1 - of the two options when changing the plan, I chose to have the changes not apply until the beginning of the next billing cycle. There never should have been the possibility of an overage as there should have been no prorating when I chose to have no changes until next billing cycle. The plan I was on was a 3GB plan, I had only used a total of 2.59GB. Again, that's aside from the fact that there shouldn't have been a prorating to begin with as I chose to have the new plan not apply until the next billing cycle.
#2 - The total allowance between the two pieces of prorated data allowances is only 2.354GB, not the 3GB of the plan I was currently on. Yet again, I don't know how many more times I have to say this for it to be understood, I chose to have the changes not apply until the next billing cycle. This means that the plan should have never been split to begin with, let alone shorted 0.646GB of usage allowance.
I'm sorry if I'm being short with you, but this is a clear-cut case of an error in the process and I do not appreciate being told I am mistaken when you haven't even bothered to pay attention to all the details and check the math for yourself.

  • Crazy to install CS2 on Quad Core 64 bit Windows 7 notebook?

I've been a video producer/director/editor since 1970 and have witnessed most all the progress and insanity of the "corporate wars" to dominate video production and later, video editing.  I no longer see any reason to differentiate between still photography, video production, editing, web authoring, print production, graphics, CGI, CAD etc...ad nauseum. My dream has long been to have one very powerful laptop that could do most everything that a creative person desired on location anywhere in the world.
My new notebook is an ASUS Quad Core G71GX with 6 GB RAM - an Nvidia Geoforce GTX 260M - and 2 - 500 GB, 7200 rpm hard drives - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. These days I shoot most video using a Canon SX1 IS at 1080 30p and the files are playing back beautifully on the 1920x1400 display at full frame rate. So for me that covers the basics. I will be upgrading from Windows 7 Home Premium to Ultimate shortly. Does anyone have issues/questions about the platform?
As to the software . . . I have been using Adobe stuff for 20 years or so.but did not get into their video editing products until Premiere 6.5. Than I jumped in with both feet and became a beta tester for the CS2 video collection. I still have my complimentary Premiere Pro 2.0 and it still works on my older XP Pro notebooks.
But now we are here in 2010 and all the major PC platforms are running 64 bit Operating Systems and I just figure that I should hold out for a true 64 bit Master Collection [which many people call CS5]. In the meantime I decided to install my CS2 Creative Suite and Premiere Pro 2.0 just so I could have the benefit of these programs while I am waiting for the 64 bit to release.
I purchased my CS2 back in 2005 as a download and last night made the attempt to install it onto the ASUS. As expected the serial number did not work so I called Adobe Installation support and got started after they prompted me for the "challenge" code. When I entered it the installation began nicely UNTIL the first folder [CS_2.0_UE_Ret_D1] finished loading and UP POPPED a window saying "Please insert CD #2" with only an OK button. Well, I didn't have any CDs because the suite was delivered as a download way back when and there seems to be no way to get to Disk 2 folder.
I finally decided to Quit the install when up pops a window that says [paraphrasing]. Your Photoshop program on Disc 1 has been verified and so try again to install. I said OK and up pops a window with all the various programs and the option to select Install. I selected each one [except GoLive because I now have Dreamweaver CS4] and proceeded. I sort of kluged my way through the transition from D1 to D2 to D3 to D4 folders and by all indications had a successfully installed, registered and activated CS2 suite on the ASUS notebook. Restarted the machine.
Opened Photoshop and up comes an error message "Your Adobe Photoshop user name, organization or serial number is missing or invalid. The application cannot continue and must now exit" "OK", which I pressed and Photoshop closed. Checked the other CS2 programs and none of them would open.
I would appreciate any pointers on how to get CS2 Creative Suite to install properly since Adobe Tech Support says such installation help is out of date and recommended this forum.
BTW: I run Videography Lab and am the "seminal author of videography". OCT 1972 American Cinematographer. I have a different take on the meaning of videography than most folks. After 38 years of research and contemplation I believe "Videography means 'I know to write' or conversely 'writing my knowing'" The platform that I've been talking about is the technology tool that enables such communication in "the Age of Videography" [Miller Freeman Publishing - 1996].
Call me crazy and than help me get this sorted out
Bob Kiger - [url removed by host]
PS: Does anyone beside me expect a sudden and dramatic shootout between Final Cut Studio & Adobe Creative Suite soon?

    Hi Michael--
Upon continued research we found your statement "CS 2 isn't compatible with Windows 7 32-bit no less 64-bit." not quite true. We grant you that, in it's raw state, Windows 7 will not install, activate, register etc. CS2 programs. That's been the Adobe position for quite a while.
Now that we have Windows 7 in hand and can play we found that if you have Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate edition you can acquire for $89.95 and download/install in an hour or so "Windows Virtual PC" and "Windows XP Mode".[Note: This feature is not available on Home editions].
We purchased the platform and once it is installed we had a "Windows XP platform" on our Windows 7 machine. From that point forward the installation of CS2 and many other of our old favorite programs was a snap. We've opened and worked with Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign etc. with no problems.
And, by the way, Premiere Pro 2.0 intalled easily on Windows 7. We're testing it now with some sub-1080p projects.
As to the long nagging problem of Adobe Installer not recognizing the downloaded CS2 CAB files during installation, we worked around by just saying OK when the installer asked for the next disc and immediately clicked on the desired disc in a seperate exlorer window which contained all the download files.
So that's the workaround for us. Now we wait to see who wins the race to enchant users with 64 bit editing and imaging suites.
    Thanks for all your help.

  • EFI update went well.  Am I crazy or do things seem snappier

I just updated my iMac with the EFI update. Very smooth. Subjectively, the machie seems much more responsive and quick. Is this just me or have others noticed what appears to be this increase in responsiveness. For example, applications just seem to load much more quickly.
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
You're not crazy AFAIK . I did the EFI update yesterday and, after a slight glitch which is described in this thread,
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1153464&tstart=15
I was surprized by a 20 second bootup this morning. 20 seconds! It used to take about 25 to 30 seconds prior to the update. Hope this continues. And yes, everything does seem snappier as you report.

  • Importing a photo folder just with references creates a photo library 2/3 of its size. crazy!

after ignoring iphoto for many reasons over the last years i thought i give it a try with the new photo app.
i imported a 70gb photo folder - turning OFF to copy it into the library first, just refering to them - and now it ate up all my space by creating a 41gb (!!!) photo library just with references alone. so now i have a 70gb folder plus an index file that is 41gb big. i am beyond baffled.
am i doing something wrong here or are they crazy?
they cannot possibly think this is a smart way to store photos with the small internal hard drives they give us nowadays can they?

it gets even worse. "photos" has created empty subfolders of almost every photo in my original photo folder.
    thank you apple. good job.

  • Crazy POP Account problem receiving emails

I am on Mail 2.08, and my ISP is Media Temple (shared server setup).
I have one account will not download email! It has exactly the same settings as others that work.
I can Get Info and Mail shows that my test message exists on the server. I can go on Squirrelmail and see the mail is there. I can set up the account in Entourage and download the email on the server no problem. I can use this account in Mail to send the test emails (smtp works). I run Connection Doctor and it logs in and says account is fine. There are no errors showing up in any attempts to download the mail, just a spinning wheel and then no mail in the inbox!!
I erased and set up the account on Media Temple's servers. That did not work. I have erased and set up the account within Mail multiple times. I threw out the plist and re-entered the account in Mail and that did not work. I wish I could download a new version of Mail so I can delete this one but don't know how to find that online.
I don't think there is any kind of cache or anything to clear with Mail.
I should note that on my first setup of this account, I set it up as IMAP. My primary email account is IMAP and works great, but when I was trying to make this new account work, Mail.app goes crazy with where it puts the folders for Sent, etc and what is mapped to what. So I then deleted it as IMAP and made new one as POP. I cannot find any evidence of a remainder of this work but wanted to note it here.
Media Temple tech support say they have many Mail.app users calling in with very mysterious problems like this one, that they cannot replicate and often like this where there are other accounts with the exact settings that work while others do not. Or that they suddenly stop working and the users cannot figure out why. I even tried to set up a server-based alias for this account on Media Temple to reroute the email to a new account that I can download on Mail.app but it would still not download them!!
    Help!!!
Thanks in advance for any advice, this has been hard to figure

Well, I don’t know why it doesn’t work as POP, but if what you really want is to set up this account as IMAP, it seems to me that what you should do is fix and/or understand that instead...
Anyway, assuming the account is actually supposed to work using POP as well and that it has been configured correctly, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.

    Something else you can try.
In Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you want to make your user library permanently visible, run the below command in Applications/Terminal.
    chflags nohidden ~/Library/
You will need to do that after any updates.

  • My i tunes won't open. i keep getting error7 (windows error 193) . contacted microsoft(thought it was a windows thing...not) have uninstalled itunes and everything related to it ,re installed and message still comes up. Help please, driving me crazy.

help. my iTunes wont open. I keep getting the message error7 (windows error 193). contacted Microsoft they said contact iTunes support. I have uninstalled all iTunes componets and then reinstalled everything but message still comes up... its driving me crazy.

If it's a Windows error, it's typically going to be a Microsoft problem. Uninstall any security software you have and if you have a restore point for your PC, you may want to restore your PC back to when iTunes was working normally. If none of those work you would need to contact Microsoft and demand help.
