2.2 + error (0xE8000001)

Hi,
Earlier today i just got my app loaded onto my iPhone (running 2.2). I was going back and forth testing, no problem. All of a sudden, when I try to Build and Run, I get an error:
"Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error (0xE8000001)"
"Try disconnecting and powering off the device; then power the device on and reconnect it."
Ok so this was just working fine, and of course I tried the old reboot, no luck. I even reinstalled my provision and everything. When XCode is trying to move the application over to the phone, it does print two lines in the logs:
Tue Dec 2 15:05:21 unknown afcd[73] <Error>: user mobile has uid 501
Tue Dec 2 15:05:21 unknown afcd[73] <Error>: mode is 0x41e8
Anyone else getting this? Seems like there are some guides for 2.1, but Apple has changed things with 2.2. It also seems like this process is plagued with difficulties! I guess I'll just keep playing with it for now as I've already gone through the guide Apple provided several times.
Thanks

I recreated my provisioning profiles (dev and ad-hoc) then created an entirely new project with a different name. Copied all my files to the new project and set everything up. (bit of a sledge hammer approach) I installed on my device with the debug build using my dev provisioning profile and it installed fine. I deleted it and reinstalled and it was fine.
The next thing I did was try to install my beta build with the ad-hoc provisioning profile overtop of the existing debug/dev build on my device. Once I did this, I was back to the original errors (0xE8000001, 501, 0x41e8)
@markww We you attempting anything similar? (installing on top of an existing app with a different build/provisioning profile?)
Anyone see an obvious flaw in what I did or any solutions? Thanks!

  • 100% CPU Usage, Sound configuration Error and Unknown Error (0xE8000001)

Hi, I just bought a iPod Touch - amazing iPod I must say.
Pluged it in to my Windows Xp to sync some music. (I've been using iTunes for several years now and just upgraded from a 1st generation iPod nano to a 16 Gb touch).
It connected very well and I was ready to sync but then I made a stupid mistake - I updated iTunes to be sure that every thing was up to date.
After the update I get an error about my sound configuration (I've tried uninstalling QuickTime and installing again - didn't work). iTunes open up and starts to sync and now a second issue apears. It uses all of my CPU - flatlinig at 100%, so I cannot use my computer at all. It is now syncing but extremely slow - one song takes about a minute. Now the iPod touch starts to say these weird sounds and rebooting every 20 seconds or so. Finally I get an eroor in iTunes saying that there has been an unknown error (0xE8000001).
So I'm stuck with iTunes not working and no songs on my iPod.. :o(

  • How fix iPhone encountered unexpected error 0xE8000001 install phase?

Please help ( if there is an iPhone developer forum somewhere please redirect me)!
I can not get even the sample "Hello World" application to download and run on my iPhone device. I have spent hours googling and messing around in the iPhone Developer Program Portal trying to figure out where I went wrong. I get the following error after I build and run:
"Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error 0xE8000001 during the install phase: Verifying application"
    "Try disconnecting and powering off"
Any tips, resources, or advice is much appreciated. I about to the point to consider wiping and reinstalling my Mac in a hope it may improve whatever I did wrong between SDK1-8.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Ed

Thank you _very much_ for looking at my "Bundle identifier" syntax. I think I am getting closer. I removed the 10-digit prefix from the Info.plist "*Bundle identifier*" setting. My setting is now entered as seen below.
    "*myapp.com.mycompany.${PRODUCT_NAME:identifier}*"
My new challenge is that when I build-and-go it displays the following message in the bottom-left:
"*Failed to start remote debugserver for (null) on Ed's Phone*"
Any advice is much appreciated and I appreciate all others who have added comment to this thread.

For others that are having similar problesm, you can now print out the portal "How to" adventure game. On the portal home page is a link to the following PDF. I am planning on printing out and reading the whole thing and high-lighting all the important bits and steps.

*A tip to check if you have a valid "Code Signing Identity" installed and entered in your project Build settings.*
1 - Select the root folder in your code project
2 - Press the "i" info icon on the tool bar
3 - Go to the *Build* tab
4 - The format of Code *Signing Identity->Any iPhone OS Device* setting is case sensitive and looks like: "*iPhone Developer: John Doe*"
5 - If it is correct, the associated provisioning profile will appear in the drop-down list of the Code Signing *Provisioning Profile->Any iPhone OS Device* setting. If you mess it up, do it intentionally by try adding an extra character, you should see the provisioning profile disappear from the list. If you see no change, you may have a bad developer name(wrong case?) or provisioning profile or profile install problem.

  • Error 0xE8000001 when installing app (beta 7)

i was able to create a new provisioning profile and get it on my iPhone
problem now is something i never got before..
    Error 0xE8000001 when verifying application..
nothing shows up on the console or in the crash logs..
    stuck..

Ditto here. I'm wondering if there's something special about Beta 7 since it's obviously for WWDC attendee use. fvaucher, I'm guessing you're at WWDC and real help is available? In the meantime, rolling back to Beta 6 (both SDK and iPhone OS) got me going again. (I've tried installing B7 twice now with the same results.)

  • Rebellious iPhone (Error 0xE8000001)

I've been searching through a few threads discussing this issue, and there doesn't seem to be a definite answer yet. Here's this issue:
    Issue:
My iPhone does not want to stay connected to my computer for more than 20-30 minutes at a time. Which is a problem, because sometimes I wake to find that my battery was not charging overnight like it should have. I get one of two error messages:
    http://www.liberateart.com/error1.png
    http://www.liberateart.com/error2.png (Unknown Error 0xE8000001)
    *What I Know*
Searching for answers, I've heard this error is causes by USB ports. I have a brand new 20" iMac 2.4, with three USB 2.0 ports. I've tried every port (even the ones on my keyboard, which I know you're not supposed to do, but no luck), and I still get it disconnecting.
    *What I've Tried*
Plugging it into every USB port and seeing if it does the same thing. Yep, every single one.
    Restoring the iPhone (twice actually).
    Reinstalled iTunes.
    Updated all my software.
    *What I Have*
iMac (Late 2007) 20" 2.4 Intel Core Duo
    OSX 10.5.2
    iPhone 1.1.4
    iTunes 7.6.1
    No USB Hubs
Anyone have any thoughts was might be causing this, or any possible solutions? My last resort is to do a clean erase and install, but I'm dreading to do it. If it's hardware, I don't want to end up with the same error message after doing a clean erase and install.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

This has happened to me as well with both my iPhone and iPod Touch, let me show you a few things that may help resolve this problem, if one of these doesn't work try the next one, at least one should work!
1: In November last year I had iTunes (Version 7.5), what I did for my iPhone to work is I downgraded my iTunes version to Version 7.4 and it worked just fine. This is a link to download iTunes 7.4 if you like: http://itunes.brothersoft.com/itunes7.4, please note that it says for Windows Vista, XP, 2003, XP64, ignore that because I run Mac and it downloaded.
2: Go into "Activity Monitor" and force quit iTunes helper then replug the iphone in another USB drive and reopen iTunes.
3: Turn off your iPhone and restart your Mac, then once restarted go into iTunes and turn on your iPhone.
4: You don't have a hub, but if your friends do you could borrow it and that may work.
5: Delete then re-install iTunes Delete the following files:
The iTunes application (located in /Applications)
    com.apple.iTunes.plist (from ~/Library/Preferences)
    iTunes.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
    iTunesX.pkg (from /Library/Receipts)
After that re-install the LATEST version of iTunes which is found on the apple website.
    I hoped this information helped!

  • IPhone Ad Hoc distribution error 0xe8000001

Sending an Ad Hoc distribution profile .mobileprovision file and the Distribution build .app to another user to install via iTunes does not seem to work. At all. We only get error 0xe8000001 when iTunes tries to sync. We have checked and double checked the Device IDs.
Has anybody got Ad Hoc iPhone/iPod Touch distribution to work?
    Bearing in mind:
The Documentation for Ad Hoc is very sparse, just six bullet points
When creating an Ad Hoc Distribution profile on the Program Portal and then choosing Edit > Modify, you can see that the Type has changed back to App Store from Ad Hoc.
Whats going on? Does this work at all? Is there anybody out there who has got it working?
Message was edited by: Ed Andersen

I'm having the exact same problem with ad hoc distribution. It builds fine, and I can see the app has been signed and it includes the mobileprovision file. But still I get same the error when iTunes tries to install the app.
Has anyone gotten ad hoc distribution to work?

  • Unexpected error (0xE8000001) with Distribution ONLY

My app works on device if I build it with Developer credentials
If I switch to Distribution configuration it gives me 0xE8000001
I see two provision files in Organazer but one of them (distribution) is disable. So it was never installed on device.
Is it OK or I should try to install it on device somehow?

I have the same question. It works fine in debug and release. It gets this error in distribution. Does that matter? It seems like I shouldn't be aloud to distribute it to my device yet, though I can debug and test. It just seems like it's a nasty error message. The documents say to build the application when in distribution, but not to use build in go. So, is this a problem or not? It seems like it isn't, but I'm not sure.

  • After 2.0 Update "iTunes could not connect iPod error (0xE8000001)?

I've downloaded the 2.0 update for my iTouch... after the installer had finished its work it alerted me that the iTouch was rebooting and would appear in iTunes. However, I got this error message instead:
"iTunes could not connect iPod unknown error occured (0xE8000001)". I'm not sure if I should disconnect the USB or not.. or what is going on. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Sweet! The power of the collective on the web...
Jeff - try this, worked great -
unfortunately i lost all my info on my touch when doing this, but I can dedicate some time tonight to resetting my wallpaper, my mail settings, etc.
i think the 'DFU' in these instructions means device firmware upgrade...found this on another forum where people complaining of same problem...
    1. Hold both the home and power buttons until the device turns off
    2. EXACTLY one second after the iPod turns off, release the sleep/wake button, holding the home button still ( the apple logo SHOULD NOT BE ON ).
    3. In about 20 seconds, you will see your iPod appear in iTunes, but the screen on your iPod will still be off. You are now in DFU mode.
    4. RELEASE the home button as soon as your iPod appears iTunes. If you fail to do so, your iPod will simply go back into recovery mode.
yo Apple - please roll out some info on this 'known issue'; While $9.95 isn't a budget-breaker, if you have to figure out how to make that $9.95 work on your Apple device like it appears some of us are, it speaks to posting something in Support about it - thanks!

  • What is Error 0xE8000001?

    Hello all
Lately I've been *having problems when docking my iPhone to the Universal Dock* connected to my iMac:
    (See also http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2309428)
    - When dock in, the '*dock chime' will not sound*
    - There will be pop up messages saying something like "this accessory is not (suitable) for this iPhone"
    - Sometimes it will ask whether want to switch to Airplane mode
And at this point, *sometimes the phone will not charge/sync/appear in iTunes*, either
    - undock and dock again
    - quit iTunes launch again with phone remains in Dock
Sometimes after OK the pop up message above, there is no 'dock in' chime, but the phone will continue to dock/charge/sync, but it will remain silent, i.e. no sms tone nor alarm
Then sometimes when I shift the phone a little, it will "disconnect" and re-dock with the chime, but after some split seconds, iTunes pop this message
*iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000001)*
I have never encounter this error before, at least not in Leopard. *I seem only have these problems after I upgraded to Snow Leopard.*
Someone suggested in my other post, then there maybe a damage or bent pin, he did not specify whether it is in the Dock or in the phone.
But I've *tried a couple of Universal Docks at home, all has the same messages, problems*. But once plugging the U Dock with a power supply, I hear the chime. I even change USB cable, no help
Could my phone's connector be damage instead??
Need some advice, 'cause this seems a small problem, but quite annoying, since I dock my phone day in day out to my mac
    Thanks and cheers

I'm getting the same range of errors for about half of the apps I have installed. The apps are there and functioning, but if there is an update it will not be applied, I have to delete the app from my Iphone (and yes loose any preferences) and then install the updated version of the app.

  • Kaspersky causing error 0xe8000001

    Hi all,
Just thought I'd post this as it caused me no end of trouble and I spent ages looking for the solution.
I kept experiencing 0xe8000001 and being told iTunescould not connect due to an unknown error.
Eventually found out that one of the settings in Kaspersky Internet Security was blocking the connection to the iPhone.
By going to Kaspersky, going to "settings", "Advanced settings" and "Network", you can uncheck the "Scan Encrypted Connections" tab which will allow iTunes and your device to connect.
Hope this helps some people avoid the headache I had!

  • Error 0xE8000001, why can't I synch my iPhone 4s?

I used to synch my Iphone both wirless and via USB, with no problem at all, but this past week I've been trying to transfer some apps, which sometimes doesn't work wirelessly and I keep getting this error, I plug it in and it starts going crazy like if I was plugin and un-plugin the cable really fast, and at the end I get that message. Anybody knows what it is?, the port seems to be working fine with everything else, and the cable charges the iphone normally on the wall.

  • Error "could not connect....0xE8000001  UGH!

    Hey gang. Please help.
Advanced user here, been reading posts and all Mac Docs for a week straight now. Here is my specific issue
I can reinstall iTunes and connect to iPod touch just fine. I can unplug ipod a few times, reconnect and iTunes still recognizes it.
As soon as I eject for the 3rd or 4th time OR restart iTunes, I get the message that it could not connect because of an unkown error 0xE8000001.
Then I have to reinstall itunes again. it works for 3 or 4 cycles, then bam, same error comes back.
So I can fix the error and connect, but how can I get rid of it for good? I have done every suggestion and proceedure from Apple written on this site:
    1. reinstall itunes
    2. restart apple device service
    3. clean up install files
    4. repair registry
    5. delete temp files folder
    6. tried every mother board USB 2.0 ports
    7. disabled all "start up services" with msconfig
    8. Restored ipod twice
    9. plus all other printed help here discussed over the past 4 months.
Nothing works ALL the time. I can just get it to resync 3 times then it comes back????
    Thanks!

  • Is anyone else still getting 0xE8000001 errors?

When I connect my iPhone to a computer running XCode, about 1 time in 5 I get the "Your mobile device has encountered an unexpected error 0xE8000001" message, and have to go through a complete restore of everything on the iPhone. Then it works fine for another few days. This is NOT some kind of certificate error; nothing is changing there. Clearly it is a function of something (one of my apps, one of the standard apps, one of my purchased apps, the amount of free space I have on my device (fairly little), who knows). I'm getting rather tired of having to go through this.
I'm running 2.1 on the iPhone and SDK 2.1.

I do and the only way to solve it is by restarting the device. Hold the top and home button at the same time and shut down. To start again push the top button and let go.
