2 DVI sources, but only 1 DVI port on my television

I have the 2009 Mini. I already confirmed that the DVI input on the back of my Sony CRT television gives a beautiful picture for the Mini (with the help of the supplied adapter). BUT, i also have a stand-alone DVD player with DVI that i have hooked up to my home theatre. The only DVI input to be found anywhere in my house is a single DVI input on the Sony TV. Obviously, i know both the MacMini and the DVD player both work fine through that input, but is there a way i can have them BOTH hooked up to the single input, through some kind of a splitter, perhaps?
The only other solution i can think of is to use the component cables for the DVD connection, but i really don't want to take a step down in video quality there. I would rather keep both the MacMini and the DVD player connected digitally.
Thanks to anyone who knows about such things.

There are a number of sources for DVI switches. Here's one, just so you can see what the device is about.
Regards.

  • Drag and Drop with mulitiple drag sources but only one correct answer?

I've created two drag sources (in a Type group) for one drop target. I want to be able to drag only one or the other onto the drop target. I changed the correct answers from 2 to 1, but I can still drag both onto the drop target. Is there a way to reject the second drag source?
Is there a way to select the same drag sources and have the same situation for a different drop target?
Plus, if I have the drop target set to not visible, is there a way to change it to visible once a drag source is dropped on it?
Sorry for the newbie questions. Thanks for any help.

No, I made the target invisible, not the drag object.
I have sample text (a paragraph missing periods). I created an image file of the period (essentially, a dot within a square with the same color background as my slide). The reason I created the image (and not just a round filled shape) is because if I can get this to work, I'd like to use other punctuation mark images. I imported the period image and made 3 copies of it (4 separately named images). Two of the images (the drop targets) I placed where they belong in the sample paragraph and made them invisible. The other two images are visible and would be the drag sources. I want students to be able to choose either copy of the drag source and place them on either of the drop targets (no specific order, but only one being able to be dropped onto one target). With the correct answer, I'd like to make the target visible. In the drag settings, I unchecked "send back to original location" and then set it to absolute. This is so the student would be able to place the period in other areas of the sample paragraph (but not be able to "find" the active areas that would automatically pull them into place over the target. Sorry, I don't have access to the program at this minute, so I can't remember what the other setting was instead of absolute that "pulled" the drag source onto the target.) Anyway, if set to absolute, the dropped items do not line up properly (because they land where they were dropped, obviously). So, I'm looking for a way to then make the target (that was invisible) visible when one correct period is dropped onto it, plus then reject any other periods being dropped onto it.
I'm open to suggestions if there is a better way to do this.

  • Using sequence as source, but only one audio track avail

So I have created a "raw" sequence containing multiple source clips. The source clips have 4 channels of audio and 1 channel of video. When I create my sequence, I see all of my channels....great.
However, when I load the "raw" sequence into the source monitor...I no longer have access to my 4 channels of audio independently. I simply get one audio source track and the audio is mixed....as it appears in the timeline.
When I create a new "raw" sequence, I select multichannel for the master. I've tried every track type (mono, standard, adaptive)...and still I only get one audio channel when the sequence is loaded into the source monitor.
I watched several tutorials about nesting, but there is little discussion about multiple audio tracks.
    Thanks...

Its kind of the point of using a a nest.  ( a pre comp if you like)
Nothing stops the editor going back to the source of the nest to work on the individual assets.  These will update automatically into the nest.

  • Multiple audio sources but only the main one appears.

Okay so I am doing games commentary and have recorded videos that feature in-game sound and also my commentary from a mic. When I play the videos I can hear myself but m commentary doesn't appear when I have the clips ready for editing in Adobe Premiere Elements 11... Please help!

Premiere Elements 11 on what computer operating system.
When you import a file into Premiere Elements, it presents in the workspace as your video (Video Track 1) linked to audio which should be a composite
of the file's audio (audio 1). The audio should enter as composite and exports as a composite.
Does the camera generate 3 separate files, video only, in-game sound only, and mic sound only?
There may be an easy solution involving an "extract audio stream" in Windows Explorer". The following video tutorial was
done with a version of Premiere, but the Windows Explorer principle is what I want you to explore for your purposes.

Please see if any of that extract audio stream principle can be applied to your situation.
    Looking forward to your results.

  • Does Mac Mini's HDMI-to-DVI cable support analog DVI monitors?

The Apple website shows that the new (late 2012) Mac Mini comes with an HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable in the box :-)
The DVI video connector standard supports both analog and digital video signal modes, but not all models support both modes.
I have an old PC monitor with a DVI connector, which is probably analog only.  Will this work with the new (late 2012) Mac Mini?
In other words: does Apple's HDMI-to-DVI adapter cable support all DVI monitors, or only those with a digital input?
    Many thanks!
    - Martin

Your right about the DVI standard support both analogue and digital. The three types are
    DVI-A (analogue only)
    DVI-D (digital only)
    DVI-I (supports both)
In this case the HDMI to DVI adaptor will only support digital DVI. This is because the HDMI port only supports digital.
Generally monitors with a DVI port support digital DVI, if you compare the socket and pins layout on the monitor to the one on the Mac adaptor if they are the same layout then that should indicate the monitor indeed supports digital DVI.
Note: The maximum resolution supported by the Macs HDMI port is 1920x1200, if your monitor supports a higher resolution then you should get a Mini Displayport to DVI adaptor or if needed a Mini Displayport to Dual Link DVI adaptor (for the highest resolutions).

  • External video projector - How can I hook up my Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter onto my new MacBookAir if the machine does not have a mini port (but only 2 USBs and 1 Thunderbolt)?

    Hi
How can I hook up my DVI Adapter onto my new MacBookAir if the machine does not have a mini port (but only 2 USBs and 1 Thunderbolt)?
Is there a DVI adaptor already for Thunderbolt?
    Thanks,

The Mini Display port and Thunderbolt port use compatible connector bodies. Your current Mini Display to DVI or VGA adapter will still work as before on the newer Thunderbolt capable machines.

Run MDP to HDMI for picture. Use a cable like this to run sound from your audio out on your Mac to your TV's audio in.  That's about all  you can do.

  • Why my new Mac mini  DVI dual link mini display port adapter doesn't work  with my 30"display (LG W3000H)?

    Hello There
Can any of you advise on the below? Tried to connect Mac mini with a 30" display through a DVI dual link mini display port adapter. For the first try Mac mini go connected to the display, then i've chosen the highest resolution (2560x1600, native) and right at that moment they got disconected. Since then the display stays black. What can be the issue, is it possible DVI dual link mini display port adapter is not compatible with 30"display (LG W3000H)? It works with DVI male-male cable plus DVI HDMI adapter as long as the resolution stays under 1280x800. Any idea is much appreciated.
    Thank you, Vera

    Hi,
I can report that my Mac Mini Intel Duo connected instantly and without even having to set it up (on the first try) with my 1366x768 native resolution DELL 50" Plasma Display. It's so beautiful that I just want to stand there and fondle my HDTV as I drool haplessly like Homer Simpson with a doughnut in his mouth. Seriously, no problems.... guess I bought the right cable (ebay).
Before you buy a Duo, make sure you're aware of the airport and bluetooth issues that so many (maybe everyone who tries to use them together) are having. It seems that bluetooth interferes with airport, or maybe the other way around. Anyway, it's messed up. Also, Airport reception is generally VERY poor with the new Intel Mac Mini.
Despite these things, I still love mine (I now have 2 base stations and an airport express for my powerhouse wireless needs, and an external DLink bluetooth-2-USB dongle solved the bluetooth/airport issues... in my case).
    FWIW,

  • G5 wont mount DVI or ADC, only VGA monitors

I have a g5 that has a dual display DVI/ADC card; It wont show anything on a new Apple Cinema DVI display, but it WILL show up on a VGA monitor with a DVI-VGA adapter.
I tried the appple cinema display on another mac and it worked fine, then i tried swapping the card with another g5 and the same thing happened, so i think its a software setting on my g5.
anyone have any idea to get this apple cinema display working?
    g5   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I am using an ADC 23" Cinema Display with my G5. I had to get an ADC-DVI adapter to connect it to the G5. But it works fine. I have a NVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics card. Maybe you need an update to your graphics driver. Have you tried the Apple site for a later version? Or the Manufacturer?

  • Connecting DVI Monitor to the ADC port

I have a G5 with dual video ports. One is an ADC Port and the other is a DVI port. I want to get rid of my Apple display and connect two Dell monitors both of which have a DVI connectors. How do I connect a DVI connector to the ADC port? The DVI to ADC adapter is for connecting a ADC Apple display to a DVI port. Is there an adapter for doing the opposite--a DVI plug to a ADC port?
    Power Mac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

The ADC to DVI adapter is for connecting a DVI LCD to the ADC port. It cannot be used with a DVI to VGA adapter to connect a VGA display to an ADC port. For that you need an ADC to VGA adapter, such as:
    <http://www.mac-pro.com/s.nl/it.A/id.230/.f?sc=2&category=128>
These are becoming scarce as the ADC is no longer being manufactured.
Your Sun monitor should work from the ADC port using the ADC to DVI adapter, and the Fujitsu from the DVI port using the DVI to VGA adapter.

    Hi Jessica,
No, the SD slot will not work, you need an ExpressCard/34 slot.
I do not know if it works with cameras, but with two or more HDs, if the first one has two FW ports, you can "daisy chain" one or more additional HDs from it.

You cannot have a extended desktop using a splitter.  All that does is mirror the pair attached to the splitter.
You can do this however using a Matrox DualHead2Go.
Other solution would be to attach one monitor to your video out as you do the splitter and attach the other via USB (assuming the adapter supports the monitor's resolution).

how to get screen content onto external VGA screen? Do have thunderbolt-VGA adapter but only get screensaver across

VGA and DVI do not carry sound.  Only HDMI.
Use a minidisplay-to-HDMI adapter.  Then when the TV is connected to the system use "System Prefences > Sound > Output" to select the TV for sound.
Or connect speakers to the output port of the MBP.

  • Screen tearing, but only on Retina display?

    Hello,
    Here's the situation...
I'm noticing screen tearing, but only on my Macbook Pro's retina display, not the external display that's also connected to it.
    Here's my setup:
    - Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display (Late-2012)
    - External Monitor is an HP w2007 (1680 x 1050) and is connected to my rMBP's HDMI port via an Apple HDMI-to-DVI adapter
    - I'm running Mavericks
    - Testing using www.speedtest.net
When I run the speed test on the w2007 monitor, everything is fine. However, when I run it on my retina display, the speed meter indicator needle always tears.
    Is anybody else seeing this?
Can others, especially with external monitors, perform this test and post your results here?
    Thanks!

To be honest, it's not affecting me that bad right now (I'm not doing a lot of gaming), but it bothers me that my superior retina screen is exhibiting tearing, but my old HP monitor is not.
