2 sticks of ram into which slots? MSI K8N

Hi,
Installing 2 1gig sticks of the geil value dual channel ram into a MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra MB.
Is that RAM double or single sided? I see no mention of it anywhere...or is that what the dual channel bit is all about.
Looked in the MB manual but It makes no sence to me ; ;
Which 2 ram slots should I use?
Thanks.

I have a Plat SLI and I was following the color codes at first (slots 1 & 3) and I ran cpuz and my ram registered single channel.  So I read the manual (very carefully because it was confusing at first) and I now have them in slots 1 & 2.  Reran cpuz and viola, dual channel.
Relative to single sided and double sided, that has to do with how the chips are manufactured and nothing to do with single or dual channel.  If the circuit chips show up on only one side, its single sided and if the circuits are on both sides, its double sided....at least this is my understanding.

  • Cheap ram better on my MSI K8N neo

Here is something that may be of use to someone out there.
After I bought my K8N neo plat a couple weeks ago I planned to use some old Corsair XMS 3500C2 ram on it.  It would run OK at DDR400 with settings at 2.5,3,3,8, 2T.  But I would sometimes get some errors in memtest on test 5.  If I tried to run at cas2, I'd get about 150 errors in one pass and get errors all the time.
I thought I'd try another stick of ram I had sitting here.  It's Kingston DDR400 value ram.  SPD 3,3,3,8 2T.  I put it in and ran memtest.  No errors!  So I lower the settings to see what it would do.  I got to 2,3,2,6 1T.  No errors!
I haven't tried to overclock the fsb yet.  But I might as well leave this cheap $50 ram in here for now.  It is performing better than my $150 Corsair PC3500 at stock cpu settings.  I'm in the process of trying to get an RMA from the ram guy at Corsair at the moment.  I don't know if it is bad or just won't work well on the K8N board.

As i hve posted before i had a KHX 3200 BH-5 with 2.2.2.5 and the damn thing was causing all sorts of probs.Ran Memtest and it was hell.
I took it back and bought 2 sticks of Value Ram 512 and i've had 0 PROBLEMS since
I have managed to go upto 230 HT  for just a few minutes but then the PC locks up.
I have been stable at 225 but thats about it.Kinda makes me thing if the "support upto 450 HT " in the 1.4 bios release is in fact the brick wall im hitting.
The problem is though...i can't get much lower timings with this Ram, 2.5 , 3, 3, 7 is my best result so far.Lower than that is a NO BOOT.But i think this might be a "2 stick problem"... Oh well...The quest goes on....

  • P67S-C43: Won't POST with two sticks of RAM

Hi, my new P67S-C43 has a peculiar problem: It won't POST with two sticks of RAM. I've tried both of my sticks (2 x 2GB G.Skill Ripjaws DDR3-1600 CL9 1.5V) individually in Slot 1 and the system POSTs fine. When I insert the second stick in any other slot, the system proceeds to restart unsuccessully a couple of times and then it will not POST. Only one blue LED is illuminated. When the system is in this state I have to reset the CMOS in order to POST successfully with a single stick of RAM again, which made the problem difficult to diagnose and very annoying to troubleshoot (lose BIOS settings after every attempt with the clear).
Any idea of when we'll see a new BIOS? Are any betas available? I'd like to see if this is a BIOS problem before RMAing it.
    Thanks.

Which BIOS do you now have? Current official is V1.5. It would possibly help to have a full listing of all the systems components. Work with the one RAM stick initially in the primary dimm slot, blue closest to CPU. Get the OS loaded, drivers, etc., then add the second stick in the other blue dimm slot later. I have a feeling the RAM is setting itself up wrong. Might try the manual settings of 1333 9 9 9 24 @ 1.50V's.
The BIOS was 1.5 out of the box but it's my understanding from another thread that there have been a slew of beta BIOSs released. I'm not going to load the OS until I get this straightened out. Also, both sticks would have the same settings with one stick or two installed. I fiddled with voltage, timings, etc but it still wouldn't work when I popped in the second stick. LIke I said, after every attempt with two sticks I have to clear CMOS or it won't work again with one stick. I'm hoping to try a newer BIOS before spending more hours on this, one setting at a time.
Also, I have a 2600K but the rest of the components are irrelevant. At one point I had everything but the CPU/fan, video card, and RAM unplugged and the mobo entirely out of the case. Still didn't work until there was only one stick.

  • MSI k8n neo platinum post problem

I just bought a 2nd hand K8N neo platinum and I can't get it to post, I have reduced down to 1 stick of ram(tried all slots) vga and cpu running out of case. I have an ultra 600 psu that certainly should be doing the buisness as everything was fine on an NF7S-V2 up until 1/2 hour prior.
On the led device it's starting 4 red then after a couple of seconds it goes 1 red 2 red 3 green 4 red which I found relates to keyboard controller. I've tried with various keyboards but no joy. I get nothing on the screen at all but that's the next stage in post.
My memory is Twinmos 3200 twin x 2 x 512 double sided, which I saw in the sticky can be troublesome.
    Any body got any ideas?

i am having an almost identical problem.
First the system wont go past post, then i realised it would but only boot if i had the USB mouse unplugged (i noticed the d-brackets lights changed after i unplugged the mouse)
then i was able to get to windows, however i couldn't do much (mouse wouldnt detect if replugged, keyboard not detected - all lights off)
So i tried clearing the CMOS
now i am having the same problem, except this time i get CMOS checksum error - defaults loaded
then it tells me to press f1 to continue to del to enter setup, which i cant do since the keyboard wont work. so now im totally bamboozled
I've tried changing the PSU as well with no luck (both were 500watts)
Funny thing is, the pc having the problem is identical to the pc im writing on now, presonally i think the motherboard is not v good, since alot of people have this problem or similar to it. (and yes im using the keyboard and mouse now, that i tested on the other pc)

Will check what the D-bracket says and will report back.
    ok here goes:
    (with usb mouse plugged in)
    1= green
    2= red
    3=red
    4=green
(without usb mouse plugged in) - but bare in mind i cant press f1 (no keyboard) to continue else i would probably be able to get to windows.

  • I just put 8 gb of memory into my new mini, but the computer is only reading 4gb. It tells me that bank 0 has 4 gb and that bank 1 is empty. Which slot is "o" and which slot is "1" ? I re-wiggled the new memory sticks, but it still only reads one of them.

I just added two new memory sticks to my new mac mini, each stick has 4 gb. The computer tells me that it now (with the new memory) only has 4 gb total, however. It says that bank "O" had 4 gb and bank "1" is empty. My two questions are... Which slot is bank o and which slot is bank 1? The computer didn't beep or anything, so I think its just that it doesn't recognize one card. I wiggled them again, in case maybe I didn't put them in tight or something, to no effect. Any suggestions on what I may not have done right???

Same issue here. All chips, old and new working in bottom slot 0 but nothing working in slot 1 (top.)
It also seems to be important to make the insertion at the right angle that was actually steeper than I thought at first. I also got a nice click when it slipped into place. You can also look at the position of the center slot/protrusion on the bottom chip to get an idea of how far the stick needs to be in.
Another thread pointed out that you have to make sure that the retaining clips don't engage before you get it into place as they prevent further movement.

    Thanks Eric for responding.
I checked and it does not appear in the Applications folder.
I tried yesterday on an ethernet connection with a download speed of 2 Mbps but, unfortunately the connection died(It happened from the ISP end, which is out of my control) in between after which there was no trace of the download that happened for so long(till the internet connection death).
One more serious query which I am unable to understand. If the internet connection, dies in the midst of the download is in progress why is it so that the state does not persist and one has to restart the entire process again. Is there no solution for this?
I tried so many times and its the same case after some amount of download it vanishes. So many unsuccessful attempts. I am ****** off now. Is it not possible to see Mavericks? Why does different machines of Apple behave differently? Somewhere it goes smoothly and somewhere like my mine. Why did not Apple release a non apple store version? Is this not a bad sign of letting the users struggle when something is being offered for free?
The reason I asked as whether we can download the .app of Mavericks is that, there are so many applications that I have downloaded web and have installed. All that works fine. Can't we do the same here? You download a copy of Mavericks installer application and upload it for me in Google drive or like online storage places which can be downloaded and used by me? Help me understand.
    Thanks again.

  • MSI P55-GD65 Wont boot 2 sticks of ram

This is my second board I had the first one RMA'd back to newegg. The first one upon receiving it worked just fine out of the box. 20 days later computer would not post with 2 separate pieces of ram installed. Both sticks were in the Black Slots. After taking out memory from Slot 3 Computer would now post and I could get into windows just fine. So I sent it back to newegg. Now after receiving a new board Same problem is occurring in this new board. Computer would post the first week with 2 sticks of memory, Now it wont post with both sticks installed. Took out memory from slot 3 it now posts. Anyone have this problem or can help me resolve this issue? Specs are located in signature. The socket on this board is a lotes socket.

If XMP is enabled the CPU will get overclocked.
Set CPU multiplier to 17 and not higher than 20 with Turbo Boost disabled.
WOW!!! this worked my computer boots up and both sticks are in slots 1 and 3 What did this actually do? I set the CPU to 17 and disabled the turbo boost.
Computer shows 4gb but (usable is 1.99gb) im running win 7 ult 32bit. Shouldnt useable be 3gb with 32 bit win 7?
Opened task manager went to system resources, Shows Hardware reserve is 2057mb

  • Unable to assemble the RAM memory module into the slot

Can someone tell me how to assemble the RAM module into the slot? I have followed the instructions provided by Mac but I cannot fit it into the slot. I do not know if the module is faulty or I do not apply enough force to get it in (afraid of damage it).

As long as you are certain that the notch in the module lines up with the matching piece in the slot, put equal pressure on both ends as you push. It takes about 20 pounds of pressure to get it to snap in. Just make sure you don't push on one end and not the other and be careful to push straight in.

  • My MacBook Pro has an SDXC card slot. I insert a SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo into slot but nothing happens and I can't find anything through finder or in utilities. Am I missing something or is it a faulty reader?

My MacBook Pro has an SDXC card slot. I insert a SanDisk Memory Stick Pro Duo into slot but nothing happens and I can't find anything through finder or in utilities. Am I missing something or is it a faulty reader?

The SD card slot ois for SD cards not Memory Sticks. hat is why nothing is happening. you will need a Memory stick reader that connects to one of the USB ports.

  • How far do you have to sticka CD or DVD into the slot drive?

I literally have to stick the entire CD or DVD into the slot before it picks it up. Even if I just stick it in after 85% of the disk is in the slot, it'll take it and get stuck with some of the disk outside. Is this normal? Should I take it to a genius bar?
White MacBook Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I don't have a Macbook, but in both of my iMac's and iBooks I have to put it in almost all the way to get it to take the disc. If I try to insert the disc too slow, they tend to not get read and just spin until I eject and re-insert them a little quicker.
Interestingly my G3 iMac was not this finicky. It would take the disc after about 50% insertion, and as far as I know ws the last slot load Mac that could safely accept mini disc,... I wish they would re-add that capability.

  • MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R - Which slot sound card?.

    Hi all,
I have a MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R and was wondering which slot to put my sound card in?.
At the mo it's in pci slot 4 i only have 3/4and 5 availible becuase of my arctic cooler on my rad 9800 pro.
The sound card is on IRQ 19 sharing with the IEE1394 host controller, i dont use firewire so could i disable it in the bios?.
    Cheers all.

    Hi
Should not make any differance, don't worry about the IRQ, let the comp sort it out, it knows whats where, better than humans do.
Any probs, disable the onboard sound. maybe change PCI slot, but there should not be.
    cheers

  • How does the MSI P35 NEO-2 FR hand 2GB sticks of ram?

Right now I'm running 4x1GB of ram. I have been considering switching to 2GBx2 with DDR2 1000Mhz GSkill sticks. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 and eventually I will probably run 8GB. For now I think my motherboard may like 2 sticks of ram instead of four.
Anybody who is using 2GB sticks, please tell me how you like them on your P35.
Here are the sticks I'm looking at.
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16820231145&SortField=0&SummaryType=0&Pagesize=10&SelectedRating=-1&PurchaseMark=&VideoOnlyMark=False&Page=3

So, 3 days of uptime, no errors. This morning I shut down the PC, and in the afternoon when I turned it on, it loaded Windows and after 3 minutes, BSOD. It didn't want to load Windows anymore, event with the [email protected], 2V for the memory, so I'm back with the 3 sticks.
    Any more suggestions?

  • Z97m 4790k infinite loop at bios code 03 with 2 sticks of RAM

    Hello,
    Just built a computer with
    i7-4790k, Silverstone te01 cooler
MSI Z97m Gaming MOBO    Bios 1.3 (current)
    780 gtx
Silverstone Strider ST75F-P   v1.1    on the haswell list..
Now the issue.  The computer will not boot with two stick of RAM.
First ones were Crucial Ballistix Tactical 2x8gb that are not on the list.  Works perfectly with one stick.  as soon as you stick another one in the computer it won't boot past post Code 03.  Then it reboots and goes on forever like that.
Second one are corsair CML16GX3M2A1600C11, 2x8gb which are on the list.  Same issue as above.  one stick works great. can oc to 4.7 and rock solid.  as soon as you stick another stick in loop de loops at post code 03.  I tried every slot, no dice.  two stick=no boot.
I also tried taking the video card and all accessories out. still nothing.  2 stick=nada.  But super stable with one stick...
    so help? ideas?
Is it the MOBO? or should I go try another power supply? At this point I do not believe it could be the RAM.

    Hi,
This sounds like motherboard's CPU socket has some bent pins, so check this please. Few times just to make sure it's not a bent pin. If no bent pins, then ok, refit CPU but without cooler yet. Look around RAM slots, maybe while you've been fitting the cooler (if not intel's stock) you have hit board with screwdriver. So look for any sort of scratches/hits around RAM slots and CPU socket. Also try clearing CMOS >>Clear CMOS Guide<<
At last I'd try different power supply WITHOUT the GPU.

  • Upgraded RAM on MSI K8N Neo2 lost video output?

I have a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard with 1gb ram, started to get blue screen problems and acertained it was a ram module causing this. I decided I would upgrade and have bought some Corsair XMS3200C2Pro ram 2 x 512mb. Installed and rebooted, no video just the flashing green on the monitor switch. I have checked the graphics card but it is still seated and all the cables are firm. Tried taking new ram out and putting old back in - no joy.
Weird thing is I am sure it reboots into windows (my msn get logged out on my laptop) and it sounds like its going through the process but no visuals at all not even bios flash screen.
Any ideas???? I have tried google but nothing there that helps.

This may work.  Try taking out the new Corsair Memory and inserting one stick in slot #1 (closest to cpu) of old memory that you know works.  Reset cmos real carefully (disconnecting power, moving jumper, etc. exactly as in the manual).  If it boots, hit del to enter bios, choose optimized defaults, then go into dimm voltage and raise to 2.75 (ignore any red flashing warning or use 2.7 if you are afraid). F10 and save. Shutdown before reboot.  Disconnect power, open case, insert your corsairs. reconnect power. hopefully this works.  [Is any extra power connector required for gpu properly attached?]  good luck.

  • Kernel panics with both sticks of RAM but with either

Hey everyone. Thanks for taking a look at my panic logs. A couple notes are below, followed by the text from four panics. Any suggestions or tips would be helpful! I've already gone through and followed Dr. Smoke's instructions on trying to isolate kernel panics (no haxies, safe mode startup, no login items, &c.) I'm running 10.4.7 on a 1.5GHz PBook with two 1GB sticks of RAM.
    1) don't know what the first one (Thursday's noon panic) is.
    2) looks to me like the next three (Thursday's 7pm, Friday 5:30, and Friday 5:50) are all RAM problems?
    3) I downloaded Rember to check out the RAM, even though my PBook's hardware test was clean, as was techtool's tests. Running Rember is what "caused" both of the Friday crashes.
    4) I took one 1GB stick out of the computer and running Rember resulted in a clean run - I also switched which slot it was in, to see if there could be a problem there. BUT, I also ran the test with the OTHER stick of 1GB RAM and that one came out clean too!
    5) I put both sticks in again and got a "failure" when Rember was "comparing the MUL."
    6) I suppose what might be going on is that the system is using up a certain set of blocks on the RAM that Rember then doesn't have access to when there's only one stick in. If I could be sure that was the problem, I'd buy another stick of RAM and run Rember with one or the other to see if I could isolate which stick might be bad.
    7) Until then, I suppose I'll run my computer with "just" one stick of RAM to see if it crashes at some point.
    8) Do you think it could be a different hardware problem that doesn't allow ANY two sticks of RAM to be used at the same time?

Memtest, which is what Rember is just putting a GUI around, doesn't cause panics. Also, the best test is Memtest done from the command line in Single User Mode. Consensus seems to be that AHT and TechTool Pro 4.1.x (don't know if they managed to improve 4.5.1, but if they did, it would be to just include Memtest in their own routines probably) are both weak on memory testing.
According to users and MacIntouch reader feedback, iTunes is actually one of the best applications and where problems may show up.
memory can differ enough in timing, voltage, construction so that even memory from same vendor/maker will "not get along" which is why it is always best to buy together sometimes. Even Crucial had trouble summer '04 when Apple made small changes in the G5 and DDR400.
If AHT doesn't find any problem with the logicboard, cpu, or RAM slots then I would just try to replace the RAM for say 2 x 1GB? from a known brand.
