2010 Disable circular logging with no storage groups

I have SBS 2008 and the backup wizard will not complete because of the error Disable circular logging in Exchange. I had previously removed most of exchange because of disk space including the databases.
So there are no storage groups to remove them using the console . Any suggestions would be fantastic Cheers Todd

Hi 15topster,
There are no storage groups in Exchange 2010 onwards, databases are directly under Organization\Servers and logs are generated for individual DBs seperately.
You should be able to get the option under Database properties or use below shell command to do it.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH11310
To use the Exchange Management Console to disable circular
logging:
1.
In the console tree,
navigate to Organization Configuration |
Mailbox.
2.
In the result pane, on
the Database Management tab, select the database you want to
configure.
3.
In the action pane,
under the database name, click Properties.
4.
Click on the
Maintenance tab
5.
Clear
the Enable circular logging check box.
6.
Click
OK.
7.   To make your changes
to the circular logging settings effective, Restart the
Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, or dismount and then mount all of the databases in the storage group.
To disable circular logging using Exchange Management Shell, run the
following command:
Set-MailboxDatabase -Identity "Database Name" -CircularLoggingEnabled $false

  • Circular Logging in exchange 2010

    1.
How to enable circular logging in Exchange 2010 while is in DAG in place.
    2.
When enable it will it clear my Transaction Log automatically?
    Regards

The Exchange Management Shell can be used to determine which mailbox databases are enabled for circular logging by running the following command.
    [PS] C:\>Get-MailboxDatabase | where {$_.CircularLoggingEnabled -eq $true}
    Name Server Recovery ReplicationType
Mailbox Database 02 EX1 False Remote
Mailbox Database 04 EX2 False None
Another technique is to list all mailbox database sorted by their circular logging settings.
[PS] C:\>Get-MailboxDatabase | select name, circularloggingenabled | sort circularloggingenabled -desc | ft -AutoSize
    Name CircularLoggingEnabled
    Mailbox Database 04 True
    Mailbox Database 02 True
    Mailbox Database 01 False
    Mailbox Database 03 False
Here is a method that can be used to disabled circular logging on each of the mailbox databases. Because the change doesn’t take effect until the mailbox database is dismounted and mounted again, this method also performs that task.
Caution: this may cause a disruption to mailbox access for your end users, so I do not recommend running this outside of maintenance windows.
Firstly, read the mailbox databases that have circular logging enabled into an array.
    [PS] C:\>$dbs = Get-MailboxDatabase | where {$_.CircularLoggingEnabled -eq $true}
You can see now that the two mailbox databases are in the array.
    [PS] C:\>$dbs
    Name Server Recovery ReplicationType
Mailbox Database 02 EX1 False Remote
Mailbox Database 04 EX2 False None

  • Exchange creates a new logs even no mailbox uses the storage group

We are running Exchange 2007 with 4 storage groups. We have migrated most of our mailboxes to Office 365 (there two web emails need to configure SMTP relay on Office 365) and stopped Exchange backup. However, the Exchange data still increases
everyday because of the log files.  In checking the those storages, no one uses storage group 2 and 3, but these two storages have a new log files every day. Why? How can we find out which mailbox uses them?
Bob Lin, MCSE & CNE Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Install and Configure Windows, VMware, Virtualization and Cisco on http://www.HowToNetworking.com

An easy way to see what mailboxes are being used on your system is to check your message tracking logs - run the following:
Get-TransportServer | Sort Name | % { get-messagetrackinglog -Start "11/3/2014" -ResultSize Unlimited } | Select TimeStamp, Sender, Recipients, MessageSubject, EventID, TotalBytes, RecipientCount, RecipientStatus, ServerHostName, MessageLatency*,
    ConnectorID
This should get you the information if mailboxes have been used for sending or receiving email.  If you have any retention enabled in your system, this will cause messages to be removed from mailboxes.  And there is the common daily calendar management
that the systems does.  If you have the recoverable items and recoverable mailboxes in place, these will be removed over time.  And finally, Exchange closes log files so that the database can be recovered to a certain point in time, regardless of
whether there is traffic on the database.  So even if you have removed all access from your mailboxes, and in fact even if you have removed all your mailboxes, you will have transaction logs being closed.

  • Turned off Circular Logging within an DAG Environment - now getting an Event ID 2137 (Exchange 2010)

We haven't reboot each node yet, so we are thinking that might correct this warning, it appears that the passive copies are working correctly.

FWIW, we had the same exact issue and running a full backup resolved it. To clarify the exact steps a bit, disabling circular logging was the only activity performed. We did
not have to dismount any databases, activate passive copies, restart IS, reseed, modify the registry or anything of the sort. Following this, we ran a full backup using a 3rd party solution with an Exchange agent (Backup Exec), not Windows
Server Backup, so I can't vouch whether or not there's a difference there. The backup job was configured to auto-select the best copy available, which ended up targetting a passive copy, so there doesn't seem to be a dependency on backing up specifically from
an active vs a passive copy. After the full backup completed, the warnings never re-emerged.

  • Can't log in to yahoo groups with NEO via hughesnet satellite, but can on other dsl-help!

Problem is new-just started ~2 wks ago-no changes to my platform.
Get "the connection was reset" message only when trying to log in to yahoo groups NEO version via hughesnet satellite (not gen4!)-problem not present via at&t/yahoo dsl log in.
Can log into non NEO version of yahoo groups on same satellite without any problem-note: "https" not present in URL that functions fine.
Same issue occurs with all 4 of my machines, win7 64bit and xp 32 bit. (All with latest sp's.)
All machines updated to latest firefox and java plug in (#U51), cookies and cache dumped, every possible network access to internet setting tried, tried disabling add-ons (firefox run in safe mode tried)-everything!
No change....and zero problem on anything else.
The issue is NEO on satellite, without doubt-but how to work around this latest of yahoo lunacy?
    Thank you for any help!

    Thanks anotheroz....but:
Such is not the case for me.
I AM a moderator of only one group.
When I joined myself to said group at another e-mail address, I found I had the old yahoo group layout (hurray!).
I then used a dsl line with my original group owner account to set that "new" member up as a moderator-and it all worked fine from that new account via satellite.....'''UNTIL TODAY when yahoo scrubbed the old layout and forced that account into NEO.'''
As soon as NEO is forced-'no more group access ability via satellite'....and I get this (again):
    "The connection was reset
The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."
The problem is clearly NEO via satellite....question is-how to fix it?
How can I reset the timeout function?
    Oy.....yahoo is just the worst!

  • Logs are generating with owner and group as 'root'

    Hi,
In our newly installed and configured Oracle application server(10.1.3.5), the logs are generating with owner and group as 'root'.
    Location: $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/logs
    -rw-r----- 1 root root 6700 Apr 3 02:03 access_log.1364947200
    -rw-r----- 1 root root 430 Apr 3 02:04 error_log.1364947200
We have configured it on port 80. For this the '.apachectl' ownership and permissions are changed as below:
    -rwsr-s--- 1 root dba 1703780 Jul 21 2009 .apachectl
Kindly let me know what are the changes to be made, for the logs to be generated with the group as 'dba' instead of 'root'.
    Thanks.

Ok - that is quit weird then. If you want to run the HTTP Server on a privileged port, you basically change the ownership of the .apachectl executable :
    cd ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/bin
    chown root .apachectl
chmod 6750 .apachectlas per [url http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B25221_05/core.1013/b25209/ports.htm#CIHJEEJH]documentation.
Your user and group directive should be set to :
    User oracle
Group dbaUpon starting, the http server would start as root and then switch the effective userid of the process from root to oracle. In the process list (ps -ef | grep httpd), you should see oracle.
Do you have the same configuration and what do you see in the process list?

  • SCCM 2012 - Project 2010 Standard deployment failed with error 1603

    Hi everyone,
I’m in the progress to roll out a software deployment via SCCM 2012, it’s to remove the current Project 2010 Professional we installed and reinstall the Standard version. We got a task sequence for the job, which is Reboot>Un-install Project 2010 Pro>Reboot>Install
    Project 2010 Std.
    The Un-installation process uses this command: setup.exe /uninstall PrjPro /config "PrjPro.WW\uninstall.xml"
The Installation process uses this command: setup.exe /adminfile project_silent_install.MSP
But the deployment result is quite random, some of the PCs would succeed without any issue, some of them with fail at the installation process with 1708/1603 error. As far as I know we use standard Win 7 64bits SOE across the environment, so everyone should
    have same system baseline.
I reviewed some of the failed Project 2010 Standard installation logs as it shows the following:

Can onyone enlighten me what's went wrong, and why did I get this inconsitent installation behaviour?
    Thank you very much!!!

1603 means there is a fatal error during installation process.
Take a look at the article below. It may help on finding cause.
    Hi Juke,
I did do fair a bit of Googling before I started the post. I have increased the logging level on one of the machines failed on the installation. Apparently Project installation log doesn't throw the "return value 3", I think it's pointing to a particular
updating item, anyone knows what is it?

  • Best way to move redo log from one disk group to another in ASM?

    Hi All,
Our db is 10.2.0.3 RAC db. And database servers are window 2003 server.
We need to move more than 50 redo logs (some are regular and some are standby) which are not redundant from one disk group to another. Say we need to move from disk group 1 to 2. Here are the options we are thinking about but not sure which one is the best from easiness and safety prospective.
Thank you very much for your help in advance.
    Shirley
    Option 1:
    1)     shutdown immediate
    2)     copy log files from disk group 1 to disk group2 using RMAN (need to research on this)
    3)     startup mount
    4)     alter database rename file ….
    5)     Open database open
    6)     delete the redo files from disk group 1 in ASM (how?)
    Option 2:
    1)     create a set of redo log groups in disk group 2
    2)     drop the redo log groups in disk group 1 when they are inactive and have been archived
    3)     delete the redo files associated with those dropped groups from disk group 1 (how?) (According to Oracle menu: when you drop the redo log group the operating system files are not deleted and you need to manually delete those files)
    Option 3:
    1)     create a set of redo members in disk group 2 for each redo log group in disk group 1
    2)     drop the redo log memebers in disk group 1
    3)     delete the redo files from disk group 1 associated with the dropped members

Absolutely not, they are not even remotely similar concepts.
OMF: Oracle Managed Files. It is an RDMBS feature, no matter what your storage technology is, Oracle will take care of file naming and location, you only have to define the size of a file, and in the case of a tablespace on an OMF DB Configuration you only need to issue a command similar to this:
CREATE TABLESPACE <TSName>; So the OMF environment creates an autoextensible datafile at the predefined location with 100M by default as its initial size.
On ASM it should only be required to specify '+DGroupName' as the datafile or redo log file argument so it can be fully managed by ASM.

  • CVP 7.0(2) SIP RNA Timer with CUCM Hunt Group

I have a very simple ICM 7.5(9) script which simply assigns a call type then forwards to a label on CUCM 7.1(5), which is a hunt pilot containing a hunt list with 2 line groups...a circular LG with 10 members (RNA reversion timeout of 20 sec), followed by a broadcast LG with different 10 members. There is no CFNA/CFB forwarding set up on the hunt pilot.
In CVP, the SIP RNA timer is set on for this DN at 120 seconds, and I can see that get set in CVP logs (IP addresses and dialed numbers modified to protect customer data):

I am trying to determine which timer is limiting the hunt to 60 seconds.
Can anyone suggest where I might begin looking?
    Thanks so much!!!

I've run into a similar problem recently with a CVP 8.5(1) SIP deployment and have found in the CVP documentation that the RNA Timeout is a range configurable between 5 and 60 seconds.
You can enter a larger value through OAMP on the Call Server-->SIP-->Advanced Configuration tab but when you Save and Deploy, it reverts back to the max of 60 seconds. The CVP help file indicates the 5-60 second range.

  • Disable iphone logging function

My IPhone currently having wifi grayed out problem, and along side with it, the logging function is driving me crazy. Because IPhone attemp to active wifi chip every second. It mean that every second, log will be written because of fail on ative wifi chip and it consume battery as well as storage. For a week it grow over 3GB. So is there anyway that I can disable this logging function on IPhone and/or stop IPhone from attemp to active wifi chip?

You can try turning WI-FI off all together by going to Settings>Wifi>swipe off. If the problem persists call Apple call 800-275-2273. Good Luck!!!

  • How to create new storage group and mailbox database on exchange 2007 CCR

    Hi, Our Environment:
    Exchange 2007 SP3 CCR.
Now I want to create a new storage group with edb file and log files on the new drive.
    My plan is as below:
Once we have new drive ready on both active node and passive node,
1): Create new storage group with log files for this new storage group on other new drive from Active Node.
2): Create new mailbox database under this newly created storage group with the DB file on the new drive from active node.
    My question is:
1): Do I need to perform above steps from active node only? or Do I need to do it from both active node and passive node?
2): How many storage groups can we create on one Exchange 2007 Enterprise server, we already have 25 SGs in place.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to:
    1. We can just create new storage group on the active node. And it’ll be replicated to the passive node.
We can use the following command in EMS to verify the new Storage Group is being replicated to the passive node:
    Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus "Second Storage Group" | Select SummaryCopyStatus,CCRTargetNode
    http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/08/how-to-create-new-storage-group-in-ccr.html
    2. For Exchange 2007 enterprise version, we can have up to 50 storage groups:
    http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2007/exchange2007_storage_groups.htm

The reason why the circular logging is not working is because you need to break the DAG.  Dismount the passive copy, remove the copy then dismount the active.  Once you remount the circular logging should work.  Once that is done you Or you
can just run a full backup if you have the time to let the logs truncate from that.  Either way you will have to run a backup.  Actually, why don't you just run a full backup?
Oh, if you go that route, don't forget to reseed the database.  I hope you can just do a full backup.

  • Exchange 2007 Storage Groups & Databases

    Hi There!
So I have an Exchange 2007 Standard set up. No problems or anything like that but just after some clarity over storage groups and databases.
I have spent days trying to find the answer and even tried to call MS for help (waste of time).
I understand it is best practise to have 1 database per storage group for performance and for ease for restorations and troubleshooting through system logs. Also understand that each database is pretty much unlimited (16Tb).
    QUESTION
But say you have 2 databases under one storage group are there any databases size restrictions or are the databases connected in anyway or are the databases still unrestricted in size?
Does the Storage Group have anything to do with database sizes or restrictions apart from performance and general admin or is the Storage Group just a container/holding place for databases?
Many thanks for any light on this

Storage groups allow you to group databases logically and all databases in a single SG share transaction logs.
Individual databases in each SG are independent of each other. The size limits are applicable at each edb file level.
For example, please refer this article carefully...
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/haroldwong/archive/2007/05/04/exchange-server-2007-standard-edition-unlimited-database-size.aspx
With the introduction of Exchange Server 2007, we made some changes to the Standard Edition so that we now support up to 5 Databases and up to 5 Storage Groups with Standard Edition.
Each of these Databases has a size limit of 16 TB (considered "unlimited" for all intense and purposes).
