2010 workflow support

Hi,
Is there any official communication on support for SharePoint 2010 workflow platform in SP 2013 edition. Basically, how by when we should migrate (recreate) 2010 workflows in 2013 (WFM). Any clarification will be very helpful. Thanks.
regards
Subin

SharePoint 2013 has both(2010/2013) engines, have you tried to migrate your old workflows to 2013.
SharePoint 2010 Workflow engine will be automatically installed in SharePoint 2013 and you can run both versions side by side.

  • Migration of 2010 workflow to 2013

if we use leading 3rd party tool Quest for migration then how to migrate sequential workflows from 2010 to 2013? will all sequential workflows automatically migrate to 2013 with quest tool or we need to do any further steps? It will be helpful if you say
    about steps here.
Do quest tools supports automatic migration of sequntial workflows to 2013 . I think it will run as 2010 workflow only. 2013 introduced stages, do we have to crate those stages?

2010 workflows will still run the same way they did in 2013.  The 2010 workflow mode is backwards compatible.  If you want the workflows to run in the newer 2013 engine then you'll need to re-write the workflows.  There are actions that are
available in 2010 that aren't available in the 2013 mode and vice versa so there is no automated conversion available.
But the Quest migration tool should migrate the workflows with the rest of the site when you migrate it.  In general they continue to work, but I do recommend testing since I've seen a few workflows that had problems after upgrade.  But the migrated
workflows will run as 2010 workflows in 2013.

  • Is office 2010 officially supported on windows server 2012 R2

    hello,
can someone tell me if office 2010 is officially supported on windows server 2012 R2 RDS?
This link only talks about Windows server 2012 not R2.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Anthony

    Hi Anthony,
I successfully installed Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 on Windows Server 2012 R2 before in my testing environment.
So yes, Office 2010 is supported on Windows Server 2012 R2.

It's recommended to download and install
Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office

  • Sharepoint 2010 Workflow successful: Sharepoint 2013 Workflow UNsuccessful:

    Observation 1
    1. I created 2 workflows that write "completed" to the workflow history
    a. 1 workflow uses sp2010 workflow manager
    b. 1 workflow uses sp2013 workflow manager
    2. sp2010 workflow works fine; it will start either manually or automatically (when a new item is created ) without issue; "completed' is written to the log as expected. Good.
    3. sp2013 does not start automatically (when a new item is created ); when trying to start manually I get error message "Something went wrong. To try again, reload the page and then start the workflow." Which I do, but still fails.
    Bad.
4.On Workflows.aspx I can see the links to start the 2 workflows manually.
    a. When I hover over the sp2010 workflow link I can see something that look like this:
    http://playground/sites/falcontt/_layouts/15/IniWrkflIP.aspx?List={ae95de8e-508b-4aa6-b4b6-490288e35e9f}&ID=53&ItemGuid={697E4218-D889-4FB8-A27B-D188F5D93250}&TemplateID={199c3d86-89a8-4286-b285-37e2d2067b52}&Source=http%3A%2F%2Fplayground%2Fsites%2Ffalcontt%2FLists%2FTrouble%2520Tickets%2Fall%2520requests%2Easpx
    b. But when I hover over the sp2013 workflow link I can see something that look like this:
    javascript:StartWorkflow4('949cb889-9b46-4959-9673-842e60cc5a42', '53', '{697E4218-D889-4FB8-A27B-D188F5D93250}')
Should this link also look similar to the sp2010 workflow link? If so, do you have any idea why it is different?
    Observation 2
In Sharepoint Designer 2013, when I goto Navigation -> Workflows and click on the 2010 workflow, I see a file listed under "Forms" that looks like this "sp2010 test workflow.xsn". By the way the name of the workflow happens
    to be "sp2010 test workflow".
But when I goto Navigation -> Workflows and click on the 2013 workflow, I see a NO file listed under "Forms". Should I see "sp2013 test workflow.xsn" listed there? If yes, can you think of why it is not listed there?
I saved the workflow debug logs from Event Viewer but won't share that info here unless necessary, to avoid making things look more complicated than they have to be.
Thanks for any comments suggestions, tips, questions, anything, etc.
Thanks and have a great weekend.
    George

    Hi George,
First of all, I'd like to clarify that workflow manager is dedicated for SharePoint 2013 workflow platform. SharePoint 2010 workflow is integrated in SharePoint server, while 2013 workflow is based on a new platform named workflow manager server.
In SharePoint 2013 designer, 2010 workflow has forms while 2013 workflow doesn't have forms.
For this issue, I suspect there is something incorrect with workflow manager. From the error message "Something went wrong. To try again, reload the page and then start the workflow",  please flush the DNS cache via executing
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS, and restart workflow manager related services such as below, then recreate 2013 workflow to test the issue:

  • How to migrate a SharePoint 2010 workflow to an SharePoint 2013 environment

    Dear guys,
I have a SharePoint 2010 environment with a workflow. Now I would like to migrate this workflow in the SharePoint 2013 environment? How could this be done?
I tried it via Visio, but it is not working...
    Best regards
    Matthias

All SharePoint designer 2010 based workflows will be upgraded AS IS and can be enhanced using SPD 2013 but enhancement can be done in SP2010 mode  only (using SP2010 features), no new SP2013 features can be used in SPD 2010 workflows. Microsoft has provided
a workaround to trigger SP2010 workflows with-in SPD2013 workflows using workflow interop for SharePoint 2013.

  • SPD 2010 Workflow: Issue with Associated Column

We have a SP2010 Workflow that is attached to a Content Type and mapped in the Retention Policy settings. This workflow uses a DateTime column which is used within the Workflow and hence the DateTime column is used within the Workflow as an Associated Column.
The issue being faced is that when we manually run the workflow, it runs successfully and is able to get the value of the associated column. When the Retention Timer job starts the workflow, we find that the Workflow is not able to get the value of the Associated
Column (this we realized by logging messages to a List).
Any pointers/guidance on how to overcome this issue is much appreciated.
    Blog: http://dotnetupdate.blogspot.com |

    Thanks for the suggestions.
From the debugging there is no issue from a functionality perspective or the date calculations. It works perfectly well when we manually run the workflow or if I set the workflow to start when an item is uploaded.
The behavior is different when the same workflow is getting triggered from a Retention Policy as a Stage. Is this something to do with access permissions or security context when a SPD 2010 Workflow gets triggered by a Timer Job/Retention Policy?

  • Workflow support for Non OID LDAP servers

Can workflow 2.6.2 be integrated with other vendors LDAP servers??

OID supports integrating with other LDAP directories, and Workflow supports synchronizing with those other external user directories through OID. So you can use a third-party LDAP directory, but it is a requirement to go through OID to do so.

  • Does Office 2010 Standard supports IRM ?

    I need a clarification.
Technet says we can't use IRM with Office 2010 Standard. But I am able to open IRM mails from Standard Edition, though i am not able to compose new mails / protect new docs.
Does technet means Office 2010 Standard supports only reading IRM protected mails/docs, but not protecting mails/docs ? If it is so, can i go ahead and purchase Office 2010 Standard instead of Pro Plus ? Is that legally right ?
    Regards.

    Hi,
Yes. Office 2010 Standard has a limited IRM feature which you mentioned.
If you want to replace the product, it would be better to call Microsoft for help.

  • Server 2010 Workflow simplification

My project group focuses on sold projects for external customers. We have no need for the portfolio analysis functionality for picking projects, but I do like the Project Server 2010 workflow for tracking projects through phases (i.e., initiating, planning,
    executing, closing, etc.).
Are there instructions on how to simplify/shorten the workflow without having to use Visual Studio? Currently I do not use the workflow and just have a custom field called "Phase" I use for grouping, but I'd like to use the built-in workflow if
it's not significant work to customize.

    Hi wsg2,
Actually in PS2010, you have to go through Visual Studio to create and deploy a workflow (even to customize the native workflow). The out-of-the-box demand management workflow is just a sample provided by Microsoft, meaning that it is not intended to be
    used in production.
As a workaround to Visual Studio, Microsoft partners provides third party tools to create and deploy PS2010 demand management workflows. Those tools don't require any code.
Here is a useful link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff459292(v=office.14).aspx
Note that with PS2013, Sharepoint Designer can be used to create workflows.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can my 2010 unibody support broadband speeds of 10gb-80gb

Ive just moved house and Im now able to get up to 80GB download speeds. Will my mac be able to take advantage of this?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
I think you probably mean 80Mbit/sec.
80GByte/sec is the stuff of Internet 2 backbones, university research labs, and the military. But I digress...
And the short answer is, 'One MacBook? UM, NOT REALLY - BUT maybe your HOUSEHOLD can take advantage of the speed'.
It gets a bit technical, but here goes:
(And if you want a fuller picture on Ethernet specs and speeds and standards, look here: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/35431-42-speed-matters-ethernet-mbps-gbps-beyo nd)
Your 2010 MacBook supports 802.11n Ethernet capability. That's called 'Gigabit' (1000Mbit/sec theoretical maximum data transfer speed using a wired Ethernet RJ45 connection, and in the neighborhood of up-to an advertised 450Mbit/sec maximum wireless speed per device with certain routers from certain vendors, and maybe 900Mbits/sec throughput on multiple channels and multiple devices (still an advertised max of about 450Mbit/sec per device, although 150Mbit/sec on a single device is far more realistic) on WiFi.
The digital world is just beginning to embrace (and ship actual products) supporting 802.11ac standard, referred to as 'Gigabit WiFi', which will support up to 1750Mbits/sec total throughput on multiple 802.11ac-enabled devices. (Dlink claims that here 1300Mbit ac + 450Mbit n)
    http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/routers/dir-865l-cloud-router- 5700 WiFi.)
    http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/article/254616/80211ac_gigabit_wifi_what_y ou_need_to_know.html
So, 1750Mbits/sec is 1.7Gbit/sec, and STILL about 1/40th of what that 80Gbit connection is theoretically capable of providing. If you have all 802.11ac-enabled devices and an 802.11ac-enabled wireless router. On a good day. When the electron gods are smiling.
What the heck does that all mean in plain language?
If you have multiple high-bandwidth-capable devices sharing a single incoming fiber optic (I'm assuming) line:
With the appropriate wired/wireless router and
    a game system or two
    a few high-end computers
a few wifi-enabled iDevices or Android devices
    a couple of wifi-enabled DVRs
    and several smart HDTV's
ALL STREAMING HD VIDEO AND HD MUSIC AND DOWNLOADING TORRENTS ALL AT THE SAME TIME,
THEN you can PROBABLY see some benefit from a really fast fiber optic connection, like 80Mbit/sec
Software update download speeds will be fabulous, except during the first weeks of release of any new product, when the available bandwidth of the software vendor will limit your effective speed.
What about all of those weasel-words I used, like Probably and Maybe and Theoretical?
An 80Mbit/sec connection ABSOLUTELY WILL WORK!
    Fabulously.
As long as some contractor with a backhoe doesn't wipe out your neighborhood fiber connection, you'll never experience any buffering and no data hiccups, ever.
You'll be able to brag to everyone about your results.
But you won't be getting your money's worth.
If all the offerings are available at the exact same price, go for the top, but beware of 'promotional' prices and bundles for a limited time that suddenly expire without notice, leaving you stuck with high-end service you can't fully utilize at a high-end price.
Unless you're a in a college apartment with 5 other high-bandwidth-consuming-roommates, or a high-end retailer of computers and entertainment systems today, or you're personally uploading a gigabyte of data or more every day, a *10Mbit/sec down+1Mbit/sec upload or *20Mbit/sec download+1Mbit/sec upload connection will likely provide you with the same experience. *among the lower-cost offerings my local fiber provider has currently.
    At somewhat less cost.
And if you DO upload lots of stuff everyday, maybe a *20Mbit download+3Mbit upload connection would be worthwhile.
When your needs change (newer/faster/better computers, iDevices, friends/roommates, and/or entertainment systems), you can always upgrade to a faster router and a faster connection.
    Did that help???
    Perspective:
I'm currently on a 3Mbit/sec download+0.5Mbit upload DSL line through um, 'Deathstar, Inc.', and I have six wireless devices connected with streaming capability on a D-Link DIR655 router using 2.4Ghz only (the more crowded wireless frequency). We can reliably stream Standard Def (simply because I don't own any HD devices yet) video on any two or three of them (two MacBooks, an iPad 2, and a Wii simultaneously with rare buffering (once or twice in half-an-hour).
My son's college apartment has 20Mbit down/3Mbit upload. He has a mid-2009 MacBook Pro, and find it more than adequate. He downloads about (obviously) about 7-times faster than I do. What takes me an hour takes him 10 minutes or less.

  • SPD 2010 Workflow "Collect Data From User" activity + Multi User selection

Creating a SPD 2010 workflow. Trying to do something that I think should be simple.
Use a “Collect Data From a User” activity to collect 0 to many “people” that should be affiliated with a piece of content (Discussion).
After the assigned user completes the task (and after ensuring that there have actually been people associated from the task) I want to take the “people” from the Task list item and move them over to a field on the core Discussion item,
that is also setup as a Person/Group field (allowing multiple).
I have tried using both the “Set Field in Current Item” and “Update List Item” activities to map the data over (pulling from the Task item) and in both cases tried using every combination of “Return field as”
values to do the mapping (i.e. ‘String’, ‘Display Names, Semicolon Delimited’, ‘User Ids, Semicolon Delimited’, etc). In some cases I get vague errors about not being able to do mapping (I get it), in others, it sets the
data, but only to the first user entered in the Task’s instance of the field.
After researching a bit, I find that the task from which I am pulling the data only contains one value, eventhough when I submitted the InfoPath form for the task, it accepted my data entry of two
different users. So I think somewhere between the data entry into the custom task's infopath form, and the update of the same data field in the Task list, the value is being lost.
I am sure this would be trivial with a custom activity, but we are exploring OOB ways of doing things and I have to imagine this is possible.
Am I missing something here? This seems “buggy”…
I am able to repro this in two different environments, using an out-of-box Discussion Board on an out-of-box Team Site.  If it matters Claims Based Auth against Windows only...
    TIA!
    Brian McCullough

    Hi brianpmccullough,
Collect Data from a user action can only use to collect data from one user, and if you need to collect data from one than one user, please use “Assign
a Form to a Group” instead, then it will create separate task for each user.
And if we need to update a user and group field which with multiple selections enabled, we can only use lookup field to get only the one user. And
to add multiple users to this field, we can only use String Builder, type the user account directly or get information from multiple fields.
    Best regards

  • A book about SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflows?

    Hi everyone
Can anybody of you recommend me a book about SharePoint Designer 2010 Workflows?
    Thank you in advance

How about "Beginning SharePoint Designer 2010"? However, only two chapters are about workflows.

  • Prevent Sharepoint 2010 workflow to send duplicate emails

I have SharePoint 2013 as environment but am using SharePoint 2010 workflow on a list. There is a field in this list called "Order Status" which has different status such as Processing, Shipped, Cancelled, Hold. There is another list which updates
this Order Status. I have the workflow send out an email when the Order Status changes to Processing and another email when Order Status changes to Shipped.
The issue is that there are multiple emails being sent out when any of these status changes to either Processing or Shipped. There is no other workflow attached to this list
How do I prevent the workflow to send duplicate emails? I have seen that a flag could be setup to track the email sent once but that method does not work correctly and it still sends out duplicate emails. Or maybe I am not doing this correctly
Any suggestions, comments or have anyone resolved this successfully
    Thanks Snehal H.Rana SharePoint Consultant

    Hi Snehal
If you check the workflow history, you will probably see that every time an item is added or modified, the workflow runs twice. That’s why you’re receiving two email notifications.
The reason for this is timing. If your workflow is very short and the SharePoint server is very slow, the first instance of the workflow may finish well before the item is fully saved and committed to SharePoint. As the item is being processed, the workflow
event receiver can fire again, and start another instance of the workflow.
The solution for this problem is to add a step at the end of your workflow which will pause the workflow for a few minutes .
Another Option is to use a Flag. For Setting up flag correctly check the following link

  • Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Workflows created in Sharepoint Designer

Using Sharepoint Designer 2010 (64 bit) on Sharepoint Foundation 2010 (free version)
I'm trying to get some basic workflows I've designed against a list in SPD working. They effectively just email a user the list item is assigned to based on some simple conditional checks.
I've deployed the workflow and its set to activate on item creation and item update.
Now I have checked the following already:
    - App pool for SP site is running under its own service account (not System)
    - I am the primary site collection administrator.
I'm getting this error in the log file: Unexpected
AutoStart Workflow: System.ArgumentException: The requested workflow task content type was not found on the SPWeb.
On further research it was suggested I didn't have OffWFCommon as a feature but this isn't part of Sharepoint Foundation 2010 so I'm pretty confused. The directory doesn't exist to install this feature.
Can Sharepoint Foundation 2010 actually use workflows created in SPD?
Any solutions or anything I've missed?

    Hello,
Approval WF template is not supported in foundation so use collect data from user WF in designer.
