hey guys! 1st off i have base model iMac 21.5 (late 2012) w/o fusion drive. What model iMac is best for making music? right now im a beginner learning Garageband in 6mos (or so) ill move to Pro Logic is this model ok for ProLogic or will i need to upgrade. 2nd question is there a way i can buy a External SSD and use that to boot to sort of create my own fusion drive? thanx guys, Fanboy.

For your second question, yes, you can attach an external hard drive/SSD and use that to boot off of. OWC has a good selection of drives and cases, with many of the cases using Oxford chip sets, which work well with macs.

I've heard the Ipod classic 160GB is discontinued. Could someone tell me how many songs you can put in the Ipod touch 64GB if you exclusively use it for music and don't put any photos, videos or anything?

I just did some quick figuring. There are a lot of variables. My 64gb 5th gen touch has only 56.6gb capacity so says the unit. Settings>General>About.
MP3 formatted songs vary greatly. I quickly perused my collection and found that the size varied from 3-7MB per song. Using the average of 4MB per song,(7MB is a rather large file for MP3) you will come up with 56.6 X 1024MB (1024 MB per 1GB) =57958MB/4 =14489 songs. This will probably never happen as there is cover artwork and different variables because of file size to consider. This gives you an Idea where to start.

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

When you connect your iPad or iPod to the Mac, click on the device name in iTunes - don't click on the arrow on the device. Then click on the Music tab in the main window pane. Now you should see 'Sync Music' and all your playlists, artists and albums. Here you mark the checkboxes for what should be synced.

For me all of my data and backups are done through iCloud, but it still lets me sync to iTunes no prob. I would turn off Music and anything else you want on the iCloud menu on the iPhone, and then when you plug in to iTunes instead of saying iCloud backup say Computer backup.

Yes. There is no limit to the number of iPods, iPads, and iPhones you can sync with one computer/iTunes library or account. On top of that, how you sync one iPod does not affect the syncing preferences of another.

Ipod - using Mac for music & PC for podcasts

Hi, I have an ipod 30 - love it.
I'd like to use my mac for music updates and PC for podcasts.
WHY would I want to do this?
1. My mac is a G3 10.2.8 and it rejects the majority of video podcasts - my local mac shop says "yes, that is common."
2. I like having my music on the MAC as it is portable - the PC is a desktop. (plus the mac looks cool in the loungeroom.)
So I formatted my ipod for PC - uploaded all my PC podcasts (successfully) and then moved to my mac to get my music (successfully).
PROBLEM
When I go back to my PC to get Podcast updates, it asks if it can wipe all my music. i can't find the option to just update podcasts.
Any thoughts?

Surprise Surprise . It worked!
I simply re visited the same process (see above)
and it worked.
TIPS: When Windows asks to be the Music library, say NO - it will then up date your podcasts.
NOTE: when you update your music on the MAC, it will wipe your podcasts - simply return to the PC and upload podcasts.

Does Apple not want us to use MacBookPros and iMac for Music Production ?

ONE - FW 800 is all we get for connectivity on the Macs mentioned in the header.

Impossible for larger setups. Try daisy chaining your hard drive to the Audio Interface or vice versa and you know what I mean.

The ONLY surefire way to use separate FW busses (or truly independent FW400 & FW800 ports) is to use either a FW-PCMCIA card in G4 PowerBooks, or an FW-Expresscard in MacBook Pros. Which is what I use.
Yeah, me too on all my machines. I had a FW card on my old Powerbook for two FW busses. Currently I have an eSATA card which my main drives are connected to, leaving the FW port for my audio interface, and a daisy chained backup drive.

My iPod Nano 6th generation iLive speaker system quit on me and now I cannot find a compatible speaker system. I don't want tiny personal speakers, I use this for music in the family room.

I have 2 iPod Nano 6th generation. I had them setup with different music from iTunes and I had an iLive Bluetooth docking and speaker system that charged and played them with speakers spaced in the family room. Not a little personal setup but for reasonably loud music for the whole room. My iLive system died on me. It had the 20 pin place to plug in the iPod nano and a clock and the two speakers that were bluetooth. It was the perfect setup for me. Now that model has been discontinued and I cannot find anything like it. Does anyone know what a good option is? These iPods are only a couple of years old and now obsolete because they don't make anything to play them on. I don't use earbuds, it's not what I bought them for. One has our jazz music collection, the other has Christmas music. I want to hear it throughout the house.

Using IDVD for music promo

Hi guys,
Would really appreciate some advice on this:
Using IDVD I have produced a kind of interactive demo for the purpose of showcasing examples of my music productions. This project only uses audio files and images (no video). I realise that idvd is really for 'moving' media like video, but I really liked the graphical interface and want to produce something classier than just an A4 biog.
It all looks great, but when it comes to saving the project as a disk image it says "There were errors during the project validation. These errors have to be fixed before burning the project.". I think this is because there is no video in my submenus, just audio and background images (an exclamation mark appears on each of the submenus' frames).
Is it possible to use IDVD in the way I want or am I barking up the wrong tree?
If I am, what can I use to make a similar promo resource for my music?

Hello Ben,
I may be mistaking what you want to do, but if you have no video files linked to any of the menus, iDVD may be confused. To remedy this, you could either create a very short and quiet movie in iMovie (eg, your name on a single slide) and then link it to each submenu. Depending on the theme you're using, you may be able to "hide" the button by editing the button text to a period or a couple spaces. The other option is to create an alternate combination of your music and still images in iMovie and link it in a visible way to the menus.
If you are adventureous, the combination of Quicktime Pro, Photoshop/Elements, MakeEffectMovie, and iMovie can give you many of the same types of effects as the iDVD themes. Although the book is a bit dated now, many interesting ideas using that software are contained in "iMovie 3 Solutions" by Erica Sadun.

Using iCloud for music

Hi. I am very new to Apple. I have had iTunes for quite a while, but just used the basics. I just purchased the new iPad and love it. I have installed iCloud on my pc and, of course, it came on iPad.
As I understand it I should be able to store my music in the cloud and stream it to my iPad.
I have looked on the control panel on my pc and in the setting on the iPad, but don't see any option to do anything with music at all. Music and iTunes isn't even mentioned.
Can I do this, and if so, how?

Welcome to the Apple community.
The iCloud account and the iTunes account at two different accounts. As you already found out music has nothing to do with iCloud. The services that are available in iTunes that relate to cloud computing are iTunes match and iTunes in the cloud.
iTunes match is a subscription service that matches all of your iTunes library and places it in the cloud so that you can have access and download it at any time for any of your devices. You can set up iTunes match from the iTunes application on your computer.
iTunes in the cloud, allows you to re-download any purchases that you have made from the iTunes Store on any device, from the purchased section of the store on that device.
