3 months later & still in love with my Mini

upped the ram to 16-gigs - running Pro Tools 10.3.3 with newest ML - with an avid Eleven Rack - and am still in Pig Heaven!!!  Thanks apple!

Hi, curtispro. thanks for your answer. My Mini isn't as beefy as yours. My model is the mid 2011. 2.3 GHz Intel core i5.(I've upgraded the HDD to an SSD). Photoshop isn't what I exactly bought it for anyway. I'm guessing the i5 processor should be fine for Photoshop. Of course things will take longer than on an i7. The thing is I have a Dell U2713HM display connected to the Mini and would like to take advantage of the display. It's calibrated. If things don't work out well on the Mini I can still hook it up to my i7. Windows machine.
Anyway I think I've kind of  diluted this thread lol. Thanks for your information it has helped somewhat. And yes I too am still enjoying my Mac mini to the max after one and a half years. Which was the original post from "Pat *italiano* Valella".
Thanks a lot everybody

  • If I have say 200 photos in an EVENT and I use 50 of them in an ALBUM and months later I'm happy with the ALBUM and want to trash the 150 extras in part to save space on the hard drive, is there an easy way to find which photos to delete?

If I have, say 200 photos in an EVENT and I use 50 of them in an ALBUM, and months later I'm happy with the ALBUM and want to trash the extra 150 photos, is there an easy way to know which 150 photos to trash? My idea is to not have hundreds of photos taking up space on the hard drive.
    Thanks.

    Various ways:
Easy one: Flag the ones you want to keep (do this in the Album - Select All and Flag)
    Then:
    File -> New Smart Album
Event -> contains -> Name of the Event
Photo -> Is Not -> Flagged
    will find the unwanted 150.

  • 8 months later - still haven't received Geek Squad refund

I bought an iPhone 6 in your San Marcos, CA store on 9/19/14. At the time, the Mobile rep added the Geek Squad plan of $7.99/mo to the purchase saying if I didn't want it, I could cancel within 30 days and get a full refund. After thinking about it, I called the Geek Squad number 888-237-8289 on 10/10/14 and canceled the plan. The Geek Squad rep Lou said my mastercard would be refunded and gave me a confirmation number.
After a few months of not seeing the refund to my credit card, I called Geek Squad again on 1/28/15 and spoke to Alyssa. She confirmed that the Geek Squad was canceled in October and a refund would be on its way within 2-3 additional billing cycles. She also gave me a new confirmation number.
Well I have checked each of my Mastercard statements since September and still haven't seen the refund. Please let me know how I can get my refund issued to my credit card as promised.
I have a copy of the original Best Buy receipt with the plan added and can provide original geek squad protection number, IMEI number, my phone number and both Geek Squad call-in confirmation numbers via PM.  The email used in this forum is the same email linked to my Best Buy account and phone number of the phone I added the protection plan to.
    Thanks.

  • Still in love with my Pearl, but need a lil help....

Hi All!  I LOVE my Pearl and have had it for 3 years now, although during that time it has been replaced twice.   It is no longer under warranty and is being held together by scotch tape and TLC.  I won't give it up, even though I have been bribed with I-Phone replacements!
Here is my question.  I recently downloaded a few apps from the BlackBerry App World, but receive a few conflicts with two of the apps.
    1.  Dictionary.com App:  When I click on the icon, I get the error message: "Server could not be reached! Please check radio or try at a later time..." (How do I check 'my radio'?)
    2.  POYNT App:  Sometimes it will read "cell-site location" and works great, but mostly it reads "GPS not supported" at the very top of the screen.
These applications seem worthwhile if I can get them to work.  Does anyone have any suggestions on resolving these two issues?
Oh wait.  Might as well add one (OK, two ) more question(s) while I have your eyes....
    3.  How can I get any YouTube videos to work?  I get the error message "The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld.  Please try a different URL".
    4.  Is there a way to add separate ring tones for different address contacts?  I thought there was a way, but do not seem to find it.
Thanks in advance.  I really appreciate the help.
    Sincerely,
    Julie

Julie, greetings and welcome to the Forums.
    1. Not sure there... the Dictionary.com app must user the internet to reach it's server.
Check this, look at Options > Advanced > TCP. What entries to you have listed there?
    Who is your carrier?
    2. You don't say what exact model of Pearl you have. The base 8100 pearl does not have GPS, not does the 8120. The 8110 does. So, for the first two, Poynt must use your cell tower location to work. You might look at your Poynt Options and see if you can turn off GPS location and use only cell tower location.
    3. Try your browser to m.youtube.com
If I recall correctly, it was a later OS release on the Pearl which enabled streaming video viewing. What is your Operating System loaded to your device?
Look at Options > About, third line down beginning with a "v.4.xxx"
    What is yours?
    4. Profiles > scroll down to Exceptions. You set the overall ringtone for ALL calls, but you can set an "exception" for those callers you wish to have a specific ringtone.
    1. If any post helps you please click the below the post(s) that helped you.
    2. Please resolve your thread by marking the post "Solution?" which solved it for you!

  • Six months later: still cannot get Time Capsule to  back up my PowerBooks

I have a 500g TC and two Powerbook G4 (Al) computers. I have the same problem with both computers. I reinitialize the TC disk ("Erase" in the Airport Utility) then do an initial backup over hardwired Ethernet. Both PBs have about 60GB of data on them. The initial backups take the expected 12-18 hours. Thereafter, the automatic Time Machine backups work for about 3-5 days, then they stop. Time Machine gets into the "Preparing Backup" state and stays there for hours (I give up after 24 hours).
I tried turning off TM and doing the backups manually (selecting "Backup Now" from the TM menu). That has the same problem, although it takes longer to appear.
I have no reinitialized my TC disk 5 times and had the same problem 5 times.
I have turned off Spotlight indexing of the backup disk and of the PB disk. That has not helped.
Can anyone suggest anything to get this to work?

    Rob & tubwreck,
Thanks for the redirect. However, I have already revised that info with new data. See below...
    *_Spotlight And Time Machine_*
    *Runaway MDS Process*
For Spotlight searching to work, it needs to have metadata. Every time a file is created, modified or deleted, the system notifies Spotlight that it needs to update the meta-data store (mds). First, Spotlight (mdworker) seizes the file, determines its’ type, and then assigns an appropriate importer (mdimport).
While some bits of metadata (modification dates, file type, path name) are easy to gather, most of the interesting data is embedded inside the file. To gather this embedded information Spotlight must use an importer (mdimport), a small plug-in that extracts information from files created by various applications. Each file type has its’ own importer. For instance there are unique Spotlight importers for JPEG, MP3, Word, PDF files and so on.
It’s the importer’s responsibility to read the data file and construct a dictionary that contains the appropriate metadata. When finished, the dictionary is delivered to Spotlight (mdworker), which then updates the meta-data store (mds). The original file is then released to the system to complete the originally intended action.
Ordinarily, this process is virtually instantaneous and invisible to the user. At times, however, it can hang, or loop causing Spotlight (mdworker) and the meta-data store (mds) to monopolize the CPU and interfere with other system events like Time Machine backups. The Console logs may report the following over and over again for perhaps hundreds of times.
+“mds(32): (Error) Import: importer:0x8f8c00 Importer start failed for 503”+
Eventually, the Time Machine backup may fail with the Console logs reporting
+“Indexing a file failed” / “Copy stage failed with error: 11”.+
Or a backup may be completely stalled in midstream, never seaming to end.
Go to Applications --> Utilities folder and launch Activity Monitor.
Clicking the “Process Name” column and scrolling down to the “m”s will reveal that one or all of the Spotlight components (mds, mdworker, mdimport) is maxing out your CPU.
Highlight “mds” and click “Quit Process” in the toolbar.
In the dialoge box that appears click “Quit”.
Enter our Admin password and click “OK”
The stalled backup should now resume and complete. If not, choose “Stop Backing Up” from the Time Machine menu or click the tiny “x” icon in the Time Machine Preferences. When the backup has completely stopped, select “Backup Now” from the Time Machine menu.
*Waiting for index to be ready (909 > 0)*
One of the processes Time Machine relies on for accurate backups is the indexing of the backup disk. With this index, Time Machine can quickly search the backup disk for files the user wishes to restore. When a routine backup begins, often the “Preparing…” stage will include a phase that permits Spotlight to update its’ index of the backup disk. Momentarily the Spotlight icon in the menu bar will pulsate and the Console logs will report “Waiting for index to be ready”. Generally, this phase is so quick that the user is unaware that it occurred.
Unfortunately, this phase can hang thus preventing Time Machine from completing a backup. During this period, the Spotlight icon will continuously pulsate. Clicking on the Spotlight icon will reveal a progress bar with no estimate of the remaining time or it will indicate many hours of indexing still remains. The Console logs will continually report “Waiting for index to be ready”.
Ordinarily, Spotlight indexing is a good thing. And at times, if an index has become corrupt or untrustworthy, Spotlight will require a period of time to rebuild the index. If it has only been a couple of hours then let the process continue. However, if it has been many hours, and the Spotlight menu progress bar still does not indicate an estimated time of completion, then things have hung. You will need to force Spotlight to clear its’ indexes and re-catalogue all volumes. [http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2409]
    *Force Spotlight to Rebuild Indexes*
Go to System Preferences --> Time Machine.
Using the slider on the left, turn OFF Time Machine backups for now.
Next, click “Show All” in the toolbar.
    Select the Spotlight Preferences.
    Click the Privacy Tab.
First, drag your Macs’ internal hard disk from the desktop to the Privacy list.
Wait 10 seconds, then highlight the Macs’ hard disk in the list and click the tiny “-” button at the bottom to remove it from the list.
Spotlight will initiate a reindex of the hard disk. If you click on the Spotlight menu icon you may see the message:
+“Spotlight helps you quickly find things on your computer. Spotlight will be available as soon as the contents of your computer have been indexed.”+
A progress bar will indicate perhaps 10-20 minutes remaining depending upon how much data there is.
Once completed, drag your Time Machine backup disk into the Privacy list of the Spotlight Preferences.
Wait 10 seconds, then highlight the Time Machine backup disk in the list and click the tiny “-” button at the bottom to remove it from the list.
Spotlight will now initiate a reindex of the hard disk.
Once completed, if you have any other hard disk attached to your Mac that are also being backed using Time Machine, then force a reindex as well using the procedure outlined above.
*For Time Capsule / AirDisk Users*
To properly force a reindex of networked disks, you will need to mount the Time Machine disk image so that it appears on the desktop. This will appear as a white drive icon. There is no need to index the green Time Machine drive with the clock icon on it.
Drag the white backup disk image to the Spotlight Privacy list.
Wait 10 seconds, then remove it using the “-” button.
Reindexing disk images can often take much more time, particularly if this is being done wirelessly. Initially it may report upwards of 15-20 hours of indexing remaining. However after a period if time this estimate can begin to drop to just a few hours. Let is proceed without interruption. (Note: This period of reindexing can be reduced by connecting the Time Capsule to your Mac via ethernet cable, and then forcing the reindex to occur.)
Once completed, turn Time Machine Preferences back ON.
    Now initiate a backup.
Naturally, the first backup after a Spotlight reindex may be a lengthy one.
    *Deleting the .Spotlight-V100 Directory*
At times, simply forcing Spotlight to reindex a volume is not enough to clear corrupt indexes. Additionally, stopping a Spotlight index while in progress can itself introduce further anomalies. In these instances, it may become necessary to delete the .Spotlight-V100 directory on the backup disk entirely. [http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/stopspotlightindex.html] This can be accomplished with the following Terminal command:
    +sudo rm -ri /pathtovolume/.Spotlight-V100+
where /pathtovolume is the path of the volume in question.
The volume can then be reindexed by any of the following methods:
    Restarting your Mac.
Using Disk Utility to first unmount, then mount the volume.
    Issuing the command: +sudo mdutil -E /pathtovolume+
*Redirect the Backup to a Different Hard Disk*
It may be that directing backups to a different hard disk, performing a full backup, then redirecting Time Machine back to the original hard disk clears this issue up.
One contributor reported: “However, I have fixed the problem by accident! Concerned at not having a backup, I did a new backup to an external USB drive which worked fine. I then set my backup device back to the Time Capsule, ran backup and it now works fine. Doing the backup to a different device appears to have cleared the Spotlight problem.” [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8272650#8272650]
Let us know if any of this helps further.
    Cheers!

  • Still having Problems with IPOD mini

I formated, updated and restored my iPod Mini; I cahnge computer, virtually everything that was discussed here and still ahving a problem.
I solved the problem of not recognized in itunes but appered in windows as disk drive. Now, when I'm uploading songs, I get to load only a fex (15~20), after that, it appears a message on the ipod display for low battery, then I go back and connect it to the AC adapter and the battery appears fully charged. Then i try again and the same problem.
I remember have run a chkdsk on the ipod and looks like some system files are corrupted. Specifically one names "ipod control"
Doew anybody now what can i do to solve this? Is my last hope before truw it away and by another one (from a different brad due I'm not willing to take the risk of this happening again)

Don't toss it: fix it! I had the same problem (corrupted system files) even after restore, and ultimately realized the CF hard-drive was going bad. So, I upgraded my Mini and even wrote a story about it: http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/setup/loudspeakers/iPodMiniUpgrade.php

Sorry, I can't tell what it is you're trying to ask. What does the warranty have to do with your intention to return the iPad (to whomever) and get another one?
There's no way to deactivate a warranty.
The warranty transfers with the machine, has nothing to do with the owner.
Look around in the Support pages, you can figure out a way to type in your serial number and see what your current warranty status is.

    Hey Clintonfrombirmingham
I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when  they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
    What can i do now?
    best regards Oskar

My mac book pro will not fully boot up. I have the grey background with the apple sign and the timer going round...but 20 minutes later still no desktop

You could try doing a hard shut down (holding the power button or yanking the battery) and then doing a safe boot by holding the shift key at startup:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455
Also, not sure if this applies in your case, but I've had that happen when there's a USB drive inserted either in the computer or a connected external keyboard.  I did a hard shut down, removed the drive and it went through a normal start up.

  • Statistic report with figures that will not change when rerun months later

    Hi,
Is there any good practices that we can follow to create statistic reports with figures that will not change even when rerun after few months later?
My scenario is my statistic report is generated based on data that is "alive" which means the record will get change after a period of time. So, if you generate the statistic report in for January 2006 in the month of January and regenerate in May for the January 2006 statistic, the figure is different. But what I want is to be able to get the same figures.
I know in this case looks like we need some sort of summary tables, so posting this to get advice on the best way to design such summary tables. Please comment if there is other ways of doing it.
Summary tables may work for statistic report, but how to support detail report listing where the records are required to be the same when it was generated few months ago.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

What happens, when you execute a report today is the following: a select statement is fired at the data base and the result set is displayed in the report. The data can change after the moment you launched your report. What you could do to keep the result set the same, is implementing a user parameter that fills your date discriminator.

  • 3X points for LG washer and dryer is false advertisement-- 5 months later I am still waiting

I have tried multiple attempts (at least 3 calls) to Best Buy service and have yet to get my issue resolved.   I made anLG purchase of a washer and dryer on Octobe 6th 2014.  The add said get 3x points so that made my final decision to purchase from Best Buy.  5 months later I have yet to get my 3X points.  This is false advertisement. In all three of my calls the representative has apologized and opens up a case.  I never hear anything back.  I keep being told I got my 20% incremental points but that is not what I am disputing. The last time the represenatative gave me some points for my frustration but said someone would get back to me and that was back in December.  Its frustrating as I really like shoping at Best Buy but am becoming very annoyed and really do not want to purcahse here anymore if Best Buy does not follow through with their advertisements.  I do not have a copy of the ad (wish I would of kept one) but Best Buy should be able to verify all their ads.  I certainly am not making this up.  As a matter of fact, the salesperson at the store looked at the ad and confirmed that I should be getting 3X points for the purchase.   Since I have tried multiple attempts on the phone with no success then perhaps this message might work better.   I would discourage anyone right now in believing any of there reward ads.  My time is worth more than trying to chase Best Buy down for points I am owed and will begin to make my purschases elsewhere.  BEWARE customers as I am a very dissatisified customer at the moment.

    Hi analydia,
Thank you for taking the time to sign up for the forum and connect with us.  I can understand why it is you would feel frustrated, and I 100% agree that you should not have to chase down any points that you may have qualified for.  To hear that you have potentially been waiting 5 months for points to post to your My Best Buy account, it is just really disappointing.
It will generally take 20 to 35 days for points to post to a member's account for a Magnolia or Pacific Sales purchase, which will start after any scheduled deliveries are completed.  I looked over your account using the email address you registered with the forum and I do see that the base points for your Pacific Sales purchase have already posted.  With that being said, it should just be a matter of confirming 3X points was being offered and whether or not your purchase qualified.  It appears that your LG washer and dryer may have been eligible for 5X points, but it depends on which models you purchased.
I am very sorry for any inconvenience you have experienced up until now, and I would like to see what I can possibly do to further assist.  To gather some additional information and go over your My Best Buy account with you, I will be sending you a private message.  You can check your private messages by logging into the forum and clicking on the little yellow envelope located at the top of the page.
I hope you have a wonderful day!

I have the same problem. Firefox won't unload regardless of how long I wait. Literally hours ... I must go in and 'end the process'. This has been a real hassle for a while now. Even considered giving up on firefox. Please look into this! An additional problem; I have to run firefox to get the updates, but I can't get the updates to take because I can't get firefox to unload so I can restart it.

  • If i set up my iphone on a pc, can i still use it with my mac?

i just got a hand-me-down iphone 3gs that's been restored and updated, etc. however, i am currently using a pc until i get my new macbook (which will probably not be for a few months). if i use itunes with my phone on my pc now, can i still set it up to sync later when i get my new laptop? or is it the same as with ipods, like once you set up on a pc, you can't add anything to it from a mac?

Depends on what you want to sync.
Contacts and calendars - yes with icloud.
photos yes with computer and future pictures with icloud.
Apps - does not make since, since apps are different for ipad and iphone.
