32-bit Only 10.6.8

Is their a way to block all 64-bit apps.  I know how to change them for individual apps, but is their a way to make it so that the OS ignores the fact that their is a 64bit enabled processor and run like it's a 32 bit processor.
I'm attempting to troubleshoot a program that I'm aware has issues if it gets any data related to 64 bit code and I'm aware it does memory walks, and I would like to remove any and all 64bit apps that are running to remove them as a variable.
The Kernel is already in 32 bit mode.

With a 32 bit Kernel OSX will allow 64bit apps to run as long as you have a 64bit processor.  If you have one you'll notice apps in Activity Monitor are in 64bit mode.  This is different in other OSes like Linux and Windows where a 32bit kernel won't run 64bit apps.
Linux has a SetArch command that can be used to force an application to run in other archetecures like i386, but it doesn't look like Apple has one, or at least not by the same name.
From what I know of the App that I'm testing if it is told that their is 8 gigs of ram it will try to scan 8 gigs of ram and lock up even if it's running in 32bit mode.  Since I know that's an issue already I'm trying to weed out any other issues by boxing it in further.

  • Is it still possible to create a 32-bit only iOS app?

With the latest AIR release (17), is there any way to still create a 32-bit only iOS app for testing on the iPad 1? It's currently not possible to install an app with 64-bit support on an iPad 1 to test the app. My understanding, however, is that Apple will do something on their end that will allow apps submitted to the App Store (with 64-bit support) to still be downloaded and installed on an iPad 1. Having a way to test on the iPad 1 before submission to Apple would be nice.
Is there a compiler switch or something that can be used for this purpose? If not, could such a switch be added easily? If we had such an option, we could continue testing on and supporting the iPad 1. Being in the education market, this is kind of critical to us.
    Thanks,

Because an app built with 64-bit support *cannot* be installed on an iPad 1 device for testing purposes, whether using iTunes or Xcode. It simply doesn't work. This is the message generated by Xcode:
This is when trying to install an app built with Flash Builder 4.7 and AIR sdk 17 beta.
As I stated before, my understanding is that Apple will still allow installing apps on an iPad 1 through the App Store, but *only* through the App Store. In my opinion, this is too late. We really need a way to continue testing on the iPad 1, if at all possible. That's why I'm asking if there's a possibility of adding a compiler switch of some kind that would allow building 32-bit only apps, for testing purposes only.
    Thanks.

Tried updates, calling Apple etc. But no luck.  Windows doesn't recognize the 3rd screen while

  • Win 7 x64 - possible to install CS4 64-bit only?

Is it possible to install only the 64-bit version of CS4 on Win7 64-bit ?
I do not really need to keep both versions (I do not use many plugins).
    Thank you

The general advice is to install both 32- and 64-bit version but there is a read-me on the installation disk which tells you how install CS4 64-bit only.
    Quote:
If you want to install ONLY the 64-bit application follow these steps:
    1. Run the Photoshop CS4 installer.
    2. Enter your serial number. Click Accept.
    3. On the right side of the Options panel under the 64-bit heading, uncheck the box for Adobe Photoshop CS4 (leave the “Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64-bit)” option checked).
    4. Finish installation.

  • Strange problem in PS CS4 32-bit only

I'm having a rather odd problem and haven't been able to find any discussions of something similar. I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 SP1. I have both the 32- and 64-bit versions of PS CS4 installed with the latest updates.
64-bit PS works like a champ. I love it. Were it not for a variety of plug-ins I use which are not yet 64-bit enabled, I would never use the 32-bit version of PS. However...
When running 32-bit PS, the program acts as though I have some key or mouse button either pressed or like I'm repeatedly pressing a key. Sort of. It doesn't try to do something on its own - that is, if I open a file and sit here doing nothing, PS won't do anything on its own. I will, though, see the cursor flashing oddly.
If I attempt to do anything, I end up fighting with the "phantom" keys. Sometimes, I need to press a key several times before it reacts. Often, I'll get warning sounds like you hear when you press a wrong key for a particular state. Certain actions won't hold sufficiently long to let me do something. I just ran into a stubborn problem like this. If I click the crop tool, I cannot type into the width, height, or resolution boxes on the tool bar. I can click there, see a vertical cursor appear for an instant, then it's gone.
This is driving me nuts. I wish my plug-in vendors would get their acts together and add 64-bit compatibility, but so far only Imaginomic has done so with Noiseware (and I'm grateful to them!).
Other info: I'm running with a bluetooth mouse and keyboard as well as an Intuous 3 tablet. I have an nVidea GeForce 8600 GT video card. I've tried disabling OpenGL in PS without help. Note again, 64-bit PS works brilliantly with all these. I'm running plug-ins from OnOne (Plugin Suite 4) and Nik (Viveza) as well as Noiseware mentioned above. I tried logging in with my wife's ID to see if any of my settings might be to blame, but it behaves the same with her ID. I'm not sure if this problem showed up with the PS update or if it was there from the start. I'm thinking it did not show this problem when I first upgraded to CS4. I was using CS2 previously, and it's still installed on this computer. It does not exhibit this problem.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Tony

Mylenium - thanks. I also was suspicious of the tablet, but the tablet is not in use when this problem shows up. Nevertheless, I uninstalled the Wacom driver, removed the tablet connection, rebooted, and the problem persists. But, I did get a chance to install a new version of the driver (April 2009).
Like I said - strange problem. Since it doesn't crash PS, there's not much data. No error message, no stack trace.
One other tidbit. I still have the crop tool selected. If I load an image and place the cursor over the image window, the cursor changes between the crop cursor and the big white arrow. Back and forth. When it's doing this, if you want to use the selected tool, you have to click right when the tool's cursor is showing, otherwise you get the "bing" noise.

Windows key inoperative dv7-4285 Windows 7 - 64 bit. The Windows key is the only key not working.

    Thanks for the information,
I have a couple of suggestions that may help with this issue. My first suggestion would be to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for the keyboard.
Follow these steps to do that:
    Click the "Start Menu"
Type "Device" in the search box under all programs
    Select "Device Manager"
    Click "Keyboards"
Remove all devices under keyboards by right clicking and selecting" uninstall" on each device
    Restart the computer
How long has the button not been working?
Are there any other keys not working or producing the wrong character?

  • Windows 7, no option to install the 32 bit only????

Im running a windows 7 (64 bit) but would like to install photoshop cs5 as a 32bit variant, which the installer is not letting me. any workarounds or patches? please I need urgent help,

It's been a while since I installed Photoshop CS5, but don't I remember it giving a choice of what parts to install somewhere in there?  I guess you're saying it doesn't.
Why would you not want the 64 bit code?  It has advantages, most specifically it opens up memory limitations on editing or doing operations on very large files or sets of files.  Have you set up a C: drive without enough space to install both 32 and 64 bit variants?  If that's the case it was a bad idea and you ARE going to run out of space, even if you avoid installing half of the Photoshop app now.

  • How to make 32-bit-only add-ons work with Windows 7, Internet Explorer 11 and Enhanced Protected Mode enabled?

    Hi everybody,
in IE10 I had the chance to use 32-bit-tabs even with EPM. In IE11 my 32-bit add-ons are all marked as "incompatible".
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Regards, Don

    Hi Don,
The ”Enhanced Protected Mode ” feature of  Internet Explorer 11 in Windows 7 has been simplified and it doesn`t provide the “Enable 64-bit processes for Enhanced Protected Mode” feature. The Enhanced Protected  Mode is based on the 64 bit process.
So that may be the reason.
Here is a link for reference of Enhanced Protected Mode :

  • Cannot "Edit in Photoshop CS5" in 16 bit, only 8 bit

Adobe Lightroom v3.6 with Camera Raw 6.6
    Adobe Photoshop v12.0.04 x64
Working on my Mac, I've never had problems with this before - always been able to edit in Photoshop without any problems.
Suddenly, when I try to edit in PS in 16 bit, my image is blocky and scattered, possibly like it's corrupted.
When I open it in 8 bit, it looks fine, just crappier.
Anyone else having this issue?  It's driving me bonkers.  I also tried opening it with all variations of the color space, but it's the 16 bit part that seems to be the issue.

Here's what an image will look like if i try to open it in 16 bit.
And... I'm not sure what could be the issue, because it's happening even when I open the image straight from Photoshop (it opens in Camera Raw, I switch it to 16 bit, it looks all wonky).
I've tried this in an older LR catalog as well as my working catalog.

  • Is PSE 8 an 8 bit only editor?

I'm currently using the trial version of PSE 8 for MAC and noticed anything I drag out of Iphoto to edit creates a JPEG @ 8 bit instead of the original raw, I figured out I have to export images to maintain the raw format and then open in PSE 8, it shows it but if I want to do any editing at all it says I have to create an 8 bit version. What's the point of shooting raw if you end up throwing away half the data just to edit (I believe the original is 16 bit). I called adobe and asked he said when you buy it you get 16 bit editing but wasn't sure and suggested using the forum, is this true?
    Thanks,
    Harry

There is a way to do 16 bit layers in photoshop elements but it's kind of a drawn out production. Of course first open your 16 bit file in the editor then select the move tool. Make sure show bounding box is checked in the tool options. While clicking on your image Alt-drag (windows) or Option-drag (mac) with the move tool up just a little. Release the mouse button and your background layer will be duplicated to a new layer above the original layer. Then release the alt. or option key and move the newly duplicated layer down until it snaps to the layer edges. To check the alignment of your new layer in relation to the background layer, set the new layers blending mode to difference. If you see solid black then your aligned. If you see colors then use the arrow keys to nudge until you see solid black. Once your aligned set the blending mode of the new layer back to normal. You can repeat this for as many layers as you need. Every version of photoshop elements seems to be different in what your allowed to do in 16 bit, so you will just have to experiment and see what your version permits in 16 bit. This should work in photoshop elements versions 3 thru 8 probably not in versions 1 or 2. While support for 16 bit layers is not as good as photoshop you can still do more with multiple layers than with a single layer. Also while you can save the image with the layers intact, if you try to reopen it in photoshop elements it will flatten the image in 16 bit or convert it to 8 bit with the layers. I know this looks like kind of a long process, but once you do it a couple of times it's easy.
