3650 Switch Stack IP Base and LAN Base Software

Hello All,
I will have a 3 stack of 3650's.  One switch will have the IP base image and the other two will have a LAN base image.  I have read that all switches in the stack must have the exact image.  If I have an IP based image and a LAN based image with the exact IOS version number, will the stack still work?
Thanks for your help

Take a look at this doc:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-3650-series-switches/qa_c67-729531.html
Q. What are the license requirements for a Cisco Catalyst 3650 switch stack?
A. In a Cisco Catalyst 3650 stack, all switches should be at the same image-based license (IP Services/IP Base/LAN Base) level. The active switch license level is considered as the reference, and the member switch licenses are compared against it. If there is a mismatch, the active switch with the syslog message “license mismatch error” indicates that the stacking was unsuccessful.
Q. How is a “license mismatch error” fixed in a Cisco Catalyst 3650 stack?
A. The license level of the mismatched stack member switch can be changed with the license right-to-use activate <license> all acceptEULA CLI command (entire stack should have the same wired license level) and reloaded from the active switch console. This will enable the member switch to join the stack successfully. The customer has to purchase a license before moving to a specific license level.
Q. What happens after 90 days of activating an evaluation RTU license?
A. An evaluation RTU license EULA expects that customers will purchase a permanent license within 90 days. After 90 days the evaluation license will not be valid. Warning syslog messages about the evaluation license expiration are generated 10 and 5 days before the 90-day window ends. Warning syslog messages are generated every day after the 90-day period. The expired evaluation license continues to function with the daily syslog messages until the switch is reloaded. The expired evaluation license cannot be reactivated after the reload.

  • LAN BASE and LANE LITE Software

    Hi ,
I found this info in the Q&A for Catalyst 2960 Switches:
    Q. What are the advantages of Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches with the LAN Base software relative to Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches with the LAN Lite software?
    A. Cisco Catalyst 2960 LAN Base switches deliver intelligent services for branch offices and wiring closets. The LAN Base IOS software supports enhanced Layer 2+ security, quality of service (QoS), availability, and scalable management to enable new converged applications. Catalyst 2960 LAN Base switches include both 10/100 Fast Ethernet and 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet connectivity in 8-, 24-, and 48-port configurations.
Cisco Catalyst 2960 LAN Lite switches are for entry-level branch office and wiring closet networks. They simplify the migration from nonintelligent hubs and unmanaged switches to a fully scalable and reliable network. The LAN Lite IOS software supports standard Layer 2 security, QoS, and availability while lowering the network total cost of ownership. Catalyst 2960 LAN Lite switches deliver 10/100 Fast Ethernet connectivity in 24- and 48-port configurations.
All Cisco Catalyst 2960 Series Switches have technical support service options available through Cisco SMARTNet® service. All come with a Limited Lifetime Hardware Warranty, and LAN Base and LAN Lite software updates are provided at no additional cost.
my question is about the text in red color, does that mean that if I ordered  (WS-C2960-24PC-L) then all the Ethernet interfaces can work at the 10/100/1000 ?

    Hello and good afternoon,
Here is the link to the model comparisons:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6406/prod_models_comparison.html
There are gig uplinks on the lan-lite products.
Is there a specific application, feature or functionality you are looking for?  Can I assist you all in finding the right switch?
Kindest regards and best wishes for a great new year!

  • Downgrade 3750X w/ IP Base to LAN Base for Stacking

I have a WS-C3750X-12S-S (IP Services) that I THINK I'd like to downgrade to LAN Base so I can stack it with a WS-C3750X-48T-L that is already LAN Base...
Can I do this?  Any reasons I shouldn't?  Small environment, isn't much routing at all going on here...Thanks!

That is because it is not an image it is a license.
However you will loose more than just routing abilities.
so if i where you i would go the other way.
I would buy a license upgrade to upgrade the Lan base to ip base instead.
otherwise you will loose alot of functionality that you might want/need such as eem, powerstacking and so on.
to buy a license to upgrade contact your local cisco rep.
to change to a license from ip base to Lan base contact cisco licensing

  • What's the difference between XI basis and regular basis?

I am an SAP basis admin for years.
Now my corp starts to use XI.
What is the difference between XI basis and regular basis if there is any?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
No difference... Basis is Basis (Technical consultant)... According to me its just terminology changed. i.e. SAP Administrator instead of SAP basis.
For XI you may need to additionally control the Java stack administartion along with ABAP stack.
Please go thourgh the below link to know about SAP NetWeaver Administrator, then you may compare with regular Basis activities

  • What is the difference between CRM basis and regular basis?

    Hi! Experts:
Is CRM basis different from regular basis ? I mean anything extra for CRM?
    Thanks!

    Christy,
Five years ago there was a major difference, now it really doesn't differ much from ERP.  Basically as long as you can administer a full netweaver landscape(all technical components), then you can do CRM admin.
The CRM middleware role is sometimes a basis person, but generally most companies have a "hybrid" person for that role(think functionaltechnicallimted basis).
    Take care,

  • Adding a 3850 to make a switch stack.

    Hi all,
I would like to get opinions on how to setup a new 3850 to make it work in a stack. I will be replacing a 3550 in production with a new 3850. This is what I have:
    Switch 1: 3850 [ws-c3850-24p] Lan base
Switch Ports Model              SW Version        SW Image              Mode
         1 32    WS-C3850-24P       03.02.02.SE       cat3k_caa-universalk9 BUNDLE
    Switch 2: 3550 [ws-c3550-24-pwr]
    C3550 Software (C3550-I5Q3L2-M), Version 12.1(22)EA8a, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)
New switch: 3850 [ws-c3850-24p] Lan base
Switch Ports Model              SW Version        SW Image              Mode
    *    1 32    WS-C3850-24P       03.03.01SE        cat3k_caa-universalk9 INSTALL
My goal is to pre-configure the new switch with the info from the 3550, send the switch to the site, and be able to make it work in a stack with the 3850 under production.
    My thoughts:
    - Change SW 1 priority to 15
    - Change New switch priority to 12
    - On SW 1: #switch 2 provision ws-c3850-24p
    - On SW 1: configure switch 2 interfaces to match SW 2 after introducing the command above
    - Upgrade IOS on SW 1 to match New switch
    - Connect stack cables (New switch power OFF)
    - Power ON New switch
    - Get a drink
I did a #switch 1 renumber 2 on the New switch, but it didn't chage the switch number.
Will this work? Or should I
    - Change SW 1 priority to 15
    - Change New switch priority to 12
    - On New switch: configure interfaces to match SW 2
    - Upgrade IOS on SW 1 to match New switch
    - Connect stack cables (New switch power OFF)
    - Power ON New switch
    - Get a drink
    Regards,
    G

Ok.. The new switch is pretty good. its running the recommended IOS-XE version(3.3.1) and is in recommended mode (Install).
1st you need to change the mode to "install" mode in the old switch and upgrade the IOS to 3.3.1.
    this doc will help you.
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-39667
    1. switch number will take effect once after the reload.
    this will definately work.
    - Upgrade IOS on SW 1 to match New switch
    - Change SW 1 priority to 15
    - Connect stack cables (New switch power OFF)
    - Power ON New switch
    - On SW 1: #switch 2 provision ws-c3850-24p
    - On SW 1: configure switch 2 interfaces to match SW 2 after introducing the command above
    - Get a drink
    - update me in this thread.

  • Blocked Stack Ports on 2960X-48FPD-L Stack (Unstable Switch Stack!) Spanning Tree?

I am having an issue where 2 2960X-48FPD-L Switches in a redundant flexstack (stack port 1 SW1 to port  2 SW2 and port 2 SW1 to port 1 SW2) ring.
At first running the 15.0(2).EX5 (and earlier EX3, and EX4) version IOS yielded all the ports on the stack master switch refusing to run spanning tree and would only link in amber and not pass any traffic other than CDP information (the slave switch linked in fine).
I upgraded to 15.2(3)E and this solved the problem of the ports not linking in green and participating in spanning tree.
Now, however, about every week or two I lose connectivity to the switch stack and I was able to go to the switch stack locally and found that for some reason the switch stack is blocking and unblocking VLANs on StackPort1 frequently (see below).  When I was at the site, I sometimes had connectivity, sometimes not.  A stack hard reboot brought everything back up, but this is the second time this has occurred and I would expect the same problem in the next week or so.
Has anyone else run into these issues, and have you found a solution?
I'm guessing that if I either get rid of the redundancy on the switch stack or stack using Ethernet cables between switches the problem will go away, but then what is the point of using stackable switches in a non redundant low speed stack.  It seems to me that Spanning tree thinks that I have a spanning tree loop going on with the stack ports which I didn't even think was possible.
    What do you think?

    Jim,
We have also the same problem with our 2960-X switches (access) connecting to a pair of 4500x (VSS) except our issue is with Portchannel with 2 physical links connecting the 2960xs to the 4500.
If we disconnect one of the physical links from the portchannel everything works fine, but when we connect the same physical link back all users lose connectivity and the physical link starts flapping. Here are some of the messages we see in the logs when both physical links are in the portchannel:

  • After purchasing and downloaded GarageBand software, It won't work and start over and over to download the software

After purchasing and downloading GarageBand on App Store the software won't start and switch to download over and over the software. It's virtually impossible to reach someone from Apple for support grrrrrrr.... So can someone could kindly give me a clue or solution for this issue?
    Thank!
P.S: Could you please send your reply to:  [email protected]

Have you restarted your computer after installing?
if that does not help, repair the permissions on your system drive using the "First Aid" panel in "Disk Utility" (launch from Application > Utilities)
And if this does not help, reinstall Garageband:
    Quit the AppStore.
Move the GarageBand Application to the Trash, but do not empty the Trash.
Reopen the AppSTore and sign in again with the same account you used to buy GarageBand. Now you should be able to download GarageBand again and to reinstall it.

  • Cisco 4900 switch LAN base to IP base IOS upgrade

    Hi,
I have purchased WS-C4900-SW-LIC= for upgrading 4900 switch from LAN base to IP base IOS.
I have not received any PAK or installable license file. Only license agreement is provided by CIsco.
While upgrading do I need to install license file on switch?
    Regards,
    Andy

    Anderson,
Contact the licensing team and request for an update using your PO/SO since you have not received the PAK.
    Link:  https://tools.cisco.com/SWIFT/LicensingUI/Home
Indeed we need to install the license file on the switch
First copy this license to the switch's flash memory using the copy command
    and a TFTP server.
Note, while the dir bootflash: command now lists the file in the bootflash, it has
not yet been installed. The license install command must be used to install
    the license.
    Example:
    4948# license install flash:license_name-ips
Please issue the following command and then reload the switch.
    4948(config)#license boot  level ipservices
    4948(config)#end
    4948L# wr

So I bought a Airport Extreme base station with my new Macbook pro.
My desktop system uses a DSL modem which is connected to my computer via an ethernet cable. It works flawless. I can also unhook the hard ethernet connection from the desktop and connect it to the Macbook Pro with no problems.
I then connected the ethernet cable from the DSL router to the WAN port on the Airport Base.
I have no problem gettiing the Macbook pro to set itself up on the Airport Network. I can NOT, though, access the internet. I even tried to type in the IP address for the DSL modem while connected to Airport base and can not connect to modem. Does anyone have any advice? Is there a bridging function in the Airport Base that has to be activated?
Another question. If I replace my current DSL Router with a wireless router, do I even need the airport base if all I want to do it connect to the internet with the laptop?

Make sure you perform a complete power recycle when switching network components.
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the DSL modem & AEBS. (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the DSL modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBS; Wait at least 5 minutes.
If that doesn't resolve the problem, and your DSL ISP requires PPPoE for connectivity, you will need to set that up on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as follows:
Connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility, check these settings:
    Internet tab
    - Connect Using: PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)
    - Account Name: <ISP account name>
    - Change password: <ISP password>
    - Always stay connected (checked)
    - WAN Ethernet Port: Automatic
Another question. If I replace my current DSL Router with a wireless router, do I even need the airport base if all I want to do it connect to the internet with the laptop?
No, the AEBS will no longer be required.
