3D string array to file

How can I write a 3D string array to file?

sascha:
You could do this a lot of different ways.
The first and most obvious thing that comes to my mind is that you can
think about a 3D array as an array of 2D arrays. (For that matter a
2D array is an array of 1D arrays.)
Thus you could use a for loop to index your 3D array down to 2D and
then perform multiple writes to write each 2D array "element" of this
array of 2D arrays to disk. You would probably want to write some
sort of header which defines how many dimensions there are in the
array so that whatever reads it back later will have an easier time
reading it back. (Otherwise you'd have to implement EOF handling for
the read back portion.)
To read it back you just use the same logic but build a 3D array using
a 2D read inside a for loop.

  • How do I write the contents of a string array to file?  Is there a package

    freely avaliable to do this? I am writing a console program that will save the selections made to file. I have convenience packages that came with my book, it allows int and double arrays to be written to file, but not string arrays. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    One easy way to do this is to populate a Properties object with the index as the key and the element as the value.
    The properties has built in methods for writing it to file and reading it in.

  • Having trouble converting array to spreadsheet string, storing the file and coverting back to array with complex numbers

    I am working with a network analyzer. I have arrays made of 5 columns the first consisting of an integer and the next four consisting of complex numbers. I am converting the array into a spreadsheet string and then saving the file using the write characters to a file VI. That seems to work well as when I open the file in Excel all the data is there. However when I try to reverse the process, open file and convert back to array, I loose some of the data. Specifically the imaginary parts of my complex numbers are all going to zero. I have narrowed down the problem to be in the conversion from spreadsheet string to array and vice versa. I
    think the problem may be with the 'format' input to the VI. I do not have an adequate resource for this so I am not sure what to put in to accomplish my task. Any takers?

    Hi Biz
    I don't think there is a direct way of converting a complex number to a
    string, so when you convert the array to a spreadsheet string, the
    numbers would be converted to real data.
    However, you could try separating the real and imaginary parts using the
    "Numeric: Complex to Re/Im" function, and then store these - either in
    separate files or in adjacent columns/rows in the same file. Then, when
    you read in the data again, use the "Numeric: Re/Im to Complex" function
    to put the two "halves" together.
    If you actually want Excel to interpret the numbers as imaginary, then
    you'll probably want to create a string for each complex number of the
    form "Re + Im*i" (after separating the Re and Im parts), by using
    "String:Format into String" with 2 numeric inputs and the format string
    "%f+%fi".
    Reading the data back into Labview then would require splitting the
    string into the 2 pieces by using "Stringcan from String" with 2
    numeric outputs (smae precision as original numbers specified by the 2
    Default Value inputs) and the same format string "%f+%fi", and then using
    the above-mentioned "Numeric: Re/Im to Complex" function. It worked for
    me, so if you can't follow what I am describing, send me an email and I
    can email you what I did (LV 5.1.1).

  • How to add elements into java string array?

    I open a file and want to put the contents in a string array. I tried as below.
    String[] names;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
                    String item = s.next();
                    item.trim();
                    email = item;
                    names = email;
                }But I know that this is a wrong way of adding elements into my string array names []. How do I do it? Thanks.

    Actually you cannot increase the size of a String array. But you can create a temp array with the lengt = lengthofarray+1 and use arraycopy method to copy all elements to new array, then you can assign the value of string at the end of the temp array
    I would use this one:
    String [] sArray = null;
    s = new Scanner(new BufferedReader(new FileReader("outfile.txt")));
    while (s.hasNext()) {
        String item = s.next();
        item.trim();
        email = item;
        sArray = addToStringArray(sArray, email);
    * Method for increasing the size of a String Array with the given string.
    * Given string will be added at the end of the String array.
    * @param sArray String array to be increased. If null, an array will be returned with one element: String s
    * @param s String to be added to the end of the array. If null, sArray will be returned.(No change)
    * @return sArray increased with String s
    public String[] addToStringArray (String[] sArray, String s){
         if (sArray == null){
              if (s!= null){
                   String[] temp = {s};
                   return temp;
              }else{
                   return null;
         }else{
              if (s!= null){
                   String[] temp = new String[sArray.length+1];
                   System.arraycopy(sArray,0,temp,0,sArray.length);
                   temp[temp.length-1] = s;
                   return temp;
              }else{
                   return sArray;

  • Writing data from array to file

    May i know how to write string from a array into a file.
    I have use string tokenizer to extract every line from a file using readline and use stringtokenizer to spilt the line using tab delimiter for processing.
    But if i want to write data from array to file with tab as a delimiter and how to go to the next line. How do i do that. Below is the task and i have state a simple example on a array i have and the file output that i want.
    Pls advice.. Thanks
    eg of a array
    array[0] = Data
    array[1] = One
    array[2] = Data
    array[3] = Two
    array[4] = Final
    array[5] = Data
    From the above array, i want to write to a file so that it will appear something as below
    Eg textfile.txt
    Data One
    Data Two
    Final Data
    PLs attached a simple code as a example as i am only begining to start useing the IO feature in java. Thanks

    Really thanks for your help,
    but u are mentioning that i have already know the number of countters in advance , that is to say the 2 * counters.
    But is there a way to solve this problem which i mean if i dun know the number of predefined counters. Maybe i should say, there is more than 2 counters and in another situation, the counters will only be defined during runtime. Actually the solution u give will work nicely with 2 counters. but wat if the counter is more than 4, i wll have to concatenate the string a lot of time. so is there any solution around this problem. That why i am wandering if tere is any solution to write to the file when the counters can be only determined in runtime
    Pls advice on the above with a code samples if possible.

    I read from a spreadsheet.
    and analysis certain row and column, then do calculation and write the results to a new spreadsheet.
    it is working fine.
    but as an option. i wanted to "read all the data from the spreadsheet as the previous image" and then write those data to the same new spreadsheet file but in a different worksheet.

    Dear all,
    After read some book chapters, web sites including this, I still don't get the point.

    here comes the problem, I sort by column 1 (aaa,...,bba) using an adaptation of the Quicksort algorithm for 2D arrays

    * @param column column to be sort

    I don't know if I am rediscovering the wheel with my (Sort String[][], but I think that has be an easy way to sort arrays of arrays better than this one.
    I've been trying to understand the Question of the week 106 (http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/qow/archive/106/) that sounds similar, and perfect for my case. But I don't know how to pass my arrays values to the class Fred().

  • Return String array in server side

    i wrote a bean which contains a function return String array (

    When i change the return type to String, everything is ok. Does

  • Help! Inserting a 1-D comment array into a 2-D string array at specified row AND column

    Hello everyone,
    I am writing a 2-D string array to excel and i need a way to add comments to my file like this:
    SLAM    NAME    G Level    Comments
    1              RALF         26
    1              RALF         26
    1              RALF         26
    1              RALF         26
    For some reason, i cannot specify a row AND column to write because:
    When i use replace array subset it only replaces 1 element at my index.
    When i use replace array subset with a loop, it creates empty spaces until it reaches the end of the array it is replacing.
    When i use Insert into array: i cannot wire 2 inputs for row and column.
    In my complete VI i will need to write from row 1-1001, a different comment from 2-2002, a different comment from 3-3003, etc until a stop condition is met so i need to figure out how to do this programatically and not have it replace any elements outside of the range or it will override previous commetns.
    I am at a loss of what to do. Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

  • External java function that should return String array

    Hi everyone,
    I have a split function in plsql that takes 10 times longer a java tokenizer function that i was written. So, i want to use java external function to split my plsql strings into pieces.
    I can write a java external procedure that returns types like int, float and String types. I have no problem about it.
    My problem is returning an array of strings. I found a book that has an example about how can we get directory list in plsql with java external procedure.
    (code)
    import java.io.File;
    import java.sql.*;
    import oracle.sql.*;
    import oracle.jdbc.*;
    public class JFile {
    public static oracle.sql.ARRAY dirlist (String dir)
    throws java.sql.SQLException
    Connection conn = new OracleDriver().defaultConnection( );
    ArrayDescriptor arraydesc =
    ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor ("DIRLIST_T", conn);
    File myDir = new File (dir);
    String[] filesList = myDir.list( );
    ARRAY dirArray = new ARRAY(arraydesc, conn, filesList);
    return dirArray;
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION dirlist (dir IN VARCHAR2)
    RETURN dirlist_t
    AS
    LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'myFile.dirlist(java.lang.String) return oracle.sql.ARRARY';
    (code)
    I could compile this source file in localhost but not remotehost. There are jar files ( import oracle.sql.*; import oracle.jdbc.*; ) that should be added to remote classpath. ( others have already added java classpath ). But, which classpath i should add? Oracle has own JVM and Classpath, probably i should upload these jar files to oracle classpath. Am i wrong? How can i do? Can you explain in detail? How can i return string array from java external function in Oracle ?
    I am using Oracle 11.1.0.7 on Solaris Sparc Machine.

    Hi,
    What do you mean "compile in remote host"
    Aren't you using the loadjava tool? - that should be enough, the RDBMS already "has" the jars needed.

  • Error returning large String arrays from web service

    Hi,
    I currently have an EJB that returns a String[] array that I have implemented as
    a Web Service. When I execute a Java client (JSP) from Weblogic, I don't have a problem
    as long as the returned array is relatively small, but when the array starts to get
    a little larger (say 20 elements, about 30 chars each), I consistently get:
    SAXException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:array element type mismatch.
    Strangely enough, when my web service client is a .asp page running under MS IIS
    (using the MS SOAP Toolkit), it works fine. I have returned as many as 15000 - 20000
    array elements in one call. And since I am calling the same Weblogic EJB with the
    MS client, I know it's a problem with the Java client, not the EJB.
    Anybody know of a bug or had this experience before? Or know what I might be doing
    wrong? FYI, I am using Weblogic 6.1 SP2.
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
    Sure we're interested...I'll pass this along to the XML folks.
    Thanks for the feedback,

    In case anyone is interested, I solved my problem. I was mis-diagnosing the problem
    - thinking it was a size issue when it actually was a data issue. On the calls where
    I was returning a large array, some of the array members were null. When I made them
    enpty strings "", it worked. Apparently the default SAX parser BEA uses doesn't like
    the nulls, whereas the MS parser doesn't care.

    Thanks Bruce,
    FYI - I have reproduced the problem on WL7.0. I have turned it in to support
    as you
    suggested.

    Hi Steve,
    This does not ring any bells, however I would suggest that you file a support
    case. If it
    is an option you might try a later release (7.0).

  • DateTime String array in Graph

    Greetings.
    I tried to plot DateTime string array VS Numbers array with no success in the XY Graph object.
    I even converted the DateTime string array to DateTime type using the VI called "Convert_String_to_TimeStamp.vi" with also no success as the X (Time) is just very big numbers and a datetime format.
    Please check the attached shot, it will describe the situation clearly.
    Thanks in advance

    You could read the file line by line and use the scan from sting function to convert to a timestamp.
    Now is the right time to use %^<%Y-%m-%dT%H:%M:%S%3uZ>T
