3d texture distorted

Hi,
I'm adding some textures to 3D text and have run into what seems like a program glitch, but the glitch could certainly be me as well :-) .....This is what happens:  I click on the front inflation material and then click on the folder next to diffuse and choose New Texture. I made the new document the exact same dimensions as the original document. Then I went back and clicked on Edit Texture. When the file opens, the text is sometimes very distorted. This does not happen every time and I am yet to find what is causing this. By distorted, I mean stretched, sometimes far out of proportion. So when the texture is placed, it is shrunk to fit and the texture material is very distorted. In Edit UV Properties, the numbers are usually way off, even though I didn't touch any of them. If I return the UV properties back to what I believe is the default, but not sure (100/100 - 1/1 - 0/0), the texture is still very distorted. I've also tried making sure the UV properties are at the default prior to placing the material, but that didn't help either. The only way I have been able to remedy this is to redo the entire text layer from scratch. I think this could have something to do with me resizing the vertical and horizontal scale of the text instead of just choosing the font, but I have not been able to replicate this at all, at least not yet. Below I attached pics, one of how the text should look, and one of what sometimes happens. The pics have different texture material files placed, but otherwise they are the same. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
This what the text "payback" should look like.
This is when it gets distorted.

John I do not do 3D work however just for you I thought I give it a try. I have played with Photoshop Preset 3d meshes in the past but never tried any text.  I did not have any waters drops patterns so I googled and download a large jpeg and defined a Water drops pattern.
Next I create a large Text layer converted the text layer to a shape layer.  Played about with the shape that added a stroke and the water drop pattern fill.  I them extruded the text shape and played a bit with scaling  positioning and rotation.  I filled the background with 50% gray and added an overall brightness and contrast adjustment layer. I have no problem with  to much distortion. There is some blurring during scaling.
I can also add a texture to the background and not effect the text texture

Can you take a texturized shape (either an Effect or a Graphic Style), and rasterize it (Object>Rasterize), then distort it so that the texture distorts with the shape, instead of remaining flat? (for example when you want it to fit a flat plane as in perspective) I am sure I used to be able to do this in Illustrator.
Like you can in Photoshop with Edit>>Transform>Distort
    Thanks !

  • World of Warcraft graphics distortions - HP Envy 14 (Radeon HD 5650)

    Hi all,
I'm having trouble with my HP Envy 14 and World of Warcraft.  As you can see from the screenshot below, I'm getting a lot of graphics/texture distortion when I'm in certain parts of the game world.
I've been poking around trying to discover the source of the problem and I've tried nearly everything Blizzard suggests in their help database.  I'm suspecting that this is a graphics driver issue, but my driver for my ATI/AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5650 is up to date (driver version: 8.741.1.3000).  I've tried installing the most recent drivers from ATI/AMD's site, but it won't install, saying that I need to contact my laptop manufacturer for the most recent drivers.
Is this a case of being stuck waiting for the laptop manufacturer to take the newest first party drivers and update them for their machines?  Are there any alternatives?  Am I even on the right track here?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Bjorn

I have this exact same issue, verbatim. I was experiencing it before 4.0.3 came out and I figured it was due to some driver issues (as I'd messed around with my drivers so much). Recently though, I got an SSD and freshly installed Windows 7, including the latest drivers, and everything had been working fine until this morning, when the problem started again. I haven't installed anything new, haven't altered the drivers, etc. I don't know what it could be. Perhaps it could be hardware related?
Anyways, typing "/console fixedfunction 1" into your chat and then rebooting the game will fix the issue, but it will do so by disabling your shaders and reduce your fps by about 5 or so. So it's a trade-off. Not the most desirable workaround. I'm hoping HP pushes some not-crappy drivers soon (unlikely), and that it isn't failing hardware...

im not associated with coolbit, but yes their are secret nvidia controls, look under your display settings, raise the cpu bus speed around 5 mhz at a time, im guessin your vid card is using stock cooling? also once you find the secret controls in drivers, try upping the mem speed 5mhz at a time, till you notice artifacts or texture distortion in games or 3dmark, do the same with the core afterwards, did you read the overclocking guide at the top of the forum?
also i think the hidden controls in the drivers only allow "2d overclocking" and "3d overclocking" i think, so to move core and mem speeds refer to the overclocking guide

    Hi.
I,ve had this problem for a few days now i,m sure its affective in most of my games but i'll use quake 3 as an example, ok in game I get minor glitches/stutters/distortion, they mainly happen at speed, i,ve been gathering information from various messageboards on what might be causing this irritation. But its really difficult to single out the cause.
Anyway i have try mostly everything from bios tweaks, all available settings, various detonators.
Also tryed it with nothing running in the background etc.. to no avail.. Now I know my system is capable on running it smoothly. Here's why,
I was uninstalling some detonators to try some other ones, and i accidently installed the windows xp pro display drivers, so i started up quake 3 and everything was fine, (but these drivers are basic and don't have any options, also give weak performance)
so i went back to the latest detonators (back to distortion)
(does this single out my drivers ?)
Anyway today i was told to imput r_swapinterval into quake 3 this did the job!!, but only on quake, and with a major fps drop .
I really hope hat one of you guy can take this info and pinpoint a solution that will give me max fps and performance..

  • PS CS4 Extended: Default texture aspect ratio on standard shapes

    Hi,
I want to design a cover for the default soft drink can 3D model. I create a 3D layer from a 2D standard layer. However I cannot find out the aspect ratio for the standard texture applied to the can's surface in order to be able to produce a cover without any distortions. Where can I find this information OR the default textures?
Thanks. I am desperate finding an answer... :(

The distortion information should come from whomever is in charge of printing the cans.

Are you writing of problems with the image displayed on your screen? Anyway that you can post a screenshot (to make a whole screenshot, hold down the Shift, Command and 3 keys at the same time). Upload your screenshot using the camera icon in the composition bar above.
It would also help to know which model MacBook Pro you have - 15" late 2011, for example.

  • Photoshop CC 3D seams - Strange distortions when pierces the UV's

Im having problems with the project painting on photoshop cc 3D mode, when I try to draw a line that pierces the uv's the brush get a strange distortion, I try a few things that however minimize the problem such like Unlit Texture and increase the size and Resolution of my Diffuse map but I still have those ugly seams on my mesh such like this Gyazo - cd605fd4be53752751651e2ad798b09d.png I wonder if as any way to fixed this problem

I understand what you say but must have a way to fixed this problem, in another programs like blender we use a feature called Bleed that paint over the uv island in order to fixed this kind of problems.. increasing the margin around the UV island. Thank you for your comment anyway!

  • Why are my exported .wmv videos sometimes distorted during the first few seconds?

I am creating 15 second looping motion backgrounds using After Effects CS5 and exporting using Media Encoder. WMV is the only format that is compatible with the programme my clients are using to play them - this is mainly a niche market being churches using EasyWorship, which utilises Windows Media Player to play all videos from, but doesn't support any other codec that WMV.
I am using ccParticle world to produce the particles, using both the default particles (i.e. shaded sphere etc.) and my own either brought in from Photoshop or basic shapes created on After Effects.
I am using fractal noise to give the background layers more depth and texture.
I have made all my looping backgrounds so far using all the features above, making both a HD version and an SD version in After Effects. Some of the backgrounds have exported fine in both formats, whereas a lot, both SD and HD versions have distortion/pixelation at the start lasting for a few seconds.
    1080p version export
WIndows media video, 720p - changed the frame rate from 24fps to 25.
    SD version export
Windows media video, PAL to high quality version
It is a bit hit and miss whether the backgrounds have this distortion at the start or not... apart from the arrangement and properties of the particles and colour themes everything is the same for all my backgrounds and I am using the same exporting properties every time.
Once again I am probably missing something...
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Many thanks

Thanks for your reply. I am using a standard preset for the SD export. For the HD I am selecting a standard preset but changing the frame rate. I am not altering the bitrate or any other settings (apart from un-ticking the 'export audio' box). With both I get the pixelation.
H.264 is fine. So I have even tried converting the H.264 file into .WMV just to see if it makes a difference but it still has the pixelation.
For some of my other similar videos I have used exactly the same presets and altered the frame rate on the HD version and had no problem.
I just don't understand why some videos are affected and not others.
I really need a glitch free  HD and an SD .WMV version of the same video that my customers can purchase along with the EasyWorship software mentioned above.

  • Filter Distort Displace- nothing happens

I got some great help here back in February when I had only been studying Photoshop for two weeks. Now I'm a seasoned user of three months. [Hysterical laughter!] I'm on that hamster wheel where you do the thing over and over again and can't see why it isn't working. Excuse me while I run to the kitchen for some cracked corn and greens...
I'm wanting to wrap a snake texture over a woman's face similar to what I found in a tutorial here:
    http://www.tutcity.com/view/texture-wrapping.2843.html
When I did this tutorial everything worked fine, but it is not working when I do it with my own document. The breakdown is in the filter>distort>displace step.
This is what happens when I do it
I created a grayscale image of a face and saved it on the background layer (which I unlocked by renaming it Layer 1).
The grayscale image has plenty of light and dark areas-- good contrast.
I saved that doc as "bighead.psd," and it has only one [unlocked] layer.
I DID save with Maximize Compatibility turned ON. And I saved it in a folder with the snakeskin document that I will be wrapping over it. [These were two possible displace function issues that I found in a search of this forum.]
I go to the doc that has the snakeskin on a layer. I control-click on the layer thumbnail to select the snakeskin.
    I go to filter>distort>displace.
I choose 10% horizontal and 10% vertical, stretch to fit, and repeat edge pixels.
I navigate to the document "bighead.psd" and hit okay.
Not only does nothing happen, but NOTHING EVEN SHOWS UP IN THE HISTORY PANEL.
After doing this a zillion times, I tried an experiment.
I went to the document with the snakeskin, control-clicked on the layer thumbnail to select.
I chose filter>distort>displace, but instead of navigating to bighead.psd (the displacement map I created), I navigated to the displacement map that I downloaded used earlier today when I was doing the tutorial (also a psd document, a grayscale image of a woman's face).
I made exactly the same choices as described above, and when I hit "open," the displacement DID work and the step "displace" DID show up in the history panel. I figured something must be different about the two displacement map documents???
I've brought both displacement map documents up side by side in two windows and I've been going back and forth between them trying to see any difference.
I know the software is very literal-minded, so there must be some small thing wrong that I'm not seeing. I hope someone can see what I'm not seeing.
    Thanks.
ETA: Both images (the one that works and the one that doesn't, are saved as Grayscale 8 bits).
I also flattened the image even though it's only one layer. I found that suggestion on another message board, where apparently people often have trouble with displacement maps sometimes working and sometimes not...

    Thanks for the reply.
I don't know exactly what you mean by "buried." Did you read my whole (I admit, VERY LONG) post? I said that the displacement map document is in the same folder with the texture that I want to wrap on it.
Also when I use the displacement map from the tutorial, which is in a different folder, the process works.
If you mean something else by "buried," please explain. And if "buried" is the problem, what is the solution?
Today I tried another experiment. I took the displacement map ("A") from the tutorial, which has always worked, and I placed the new face that I want to use ("B") on a different layer in document A. Then I erased the layer with picture A on it, so in effect, whatever settings were present that were causing the displacement to work on A were now applied to B. And sure enough, the displacement map worked.
The only thing I've been able to see that is different from the maps that work and the map that is not working is that in the color palette, the maps that work have "gradient ramp" selected in the drop-down menu and the only slider present is "K." My teacher says that shouldn't matter because you can make a gradient map in RGB or indeed in either R or G or B.
So... although I very much appreciate your reply, no, it didn't help.

  • Texture on Curve

I've been using Photoshop for a very long time and can't believe I've never figured out a decent way to do this, but I appreciate your help in advance.
I have a work path that has some curves in it. I have a texture that I've created that I need to fill this path with. The problem is that the texture stays uniform to itself instead of curving around the corners in the path like it would in 'real' life. I expect this, but don't know how to get around it.
If I search "texture on curve" in Google it thinks I want tutorials on using curves in photoshop.
    Anyway, help is appreciated!
    OSX, PSCS3

Sonic - there is one more way using displacement mapping. You can use actions to generate an alpha channel and then run the displace filter using that channel for each shape - certainly quicker, if you set it up properly, than using liquify or warp it will make a predictable distortion of your texture around the surface.
The disadvantage with this are its a very old filter and some of the resampling doesn't seem to be up to scratch any more - stick to higher higher res files

  • 3D Surface texture

Hi all, I'm trying to create a square surface and apply an image as texture into it. In LV 8.2 I only have a mesh function and when I display it, I get a distorted texture (not flat). I also tried with a box with (X, Y, 0) to make a plane surface but it draws the picture in the upper and lower faces as consequence. What I need to put a picture into a square surface? thanks

    londonew wrote:
Thank you friends, they are great examples. In the case of the cube, the size of the face depends on the size of the image or the image is expanded depending on the size of the cube? thanks again.
    Hey again londonew!
I've tried experimenting with the different settings that come with the texture property node for a 3D object, and I've attached the VI so you can try out your own settings for the objects. As far as I can tell, the image is scaled to suit the face which it is placed on; you could see this in Darin.K's VI as the cube images he used were based on the relatively small user thumbnails.
In the attached example I made the leopard print image very small to see what effects placing it on a large cube would have, and it resulted in the following output:
I also tested what happened when I used the full resolution image of the print for the texture, and received this output:
By changing the different texture options on the texture property node, you can see what effect this has on the output of the 3D Picture Indicator.

  • 3d granite paver texture

Im trying to make a 3d granite paver. When I add the texture to the top it works fine, when I add to the extruded side it come in distorted. How do I fix?

It looks like a single texture is applied to the over-all UV mapped material. What you need to to is edit the texture and have the UV overlay turned on, then use selections or shapes to create an area just for each side of the object. Then it is just a matter of copy and paste, but keep in mind that it may require rotating the that portion of the UV'd texture. Which may make it easier to use shapes instead of selections. But that is up to you and how confortable you are with that method.
In other words, the front side is the wrong rotation and possible wrong scale.

  • Mini DVI to S-video and composite giving complete distorted output!!

I tried to hook up my 20" Sony Trinitron either through S-video or composite to the powerbook without any success. I got completely distorted picutre. I have tried all the video resolution setting that is available on the Displays reference window with the same result. Does anybody out there run into this problem at all.

I have a 12" PowerBook 1.5ghz and had the same problem with garbled video today. When I plugged in the Mini-DVI > Composite/S-Video adapter the PowerBook would consistently think it was attached to an ordinary VGA monitor, and could not sync with the television. This caused a B&W, warped, split in half picture.
I took the adapter back to the Apple store, plugged it into one of their demo units, and saw it behaved the same way. They gave me a replacement and everything has been fine since.

I have subscribed to the Adobe CC Photography Plan since August 2013.  Today I received an email from Adobe with the subject line "New Benefits Added to your Creative Cloud Photography Plan."  The email linked to a web page.  On that page, I clicked the link "Enter the Magical World of Trey Ratcliff."  On that page, there was a link "Free Adobe Photoshop CC texture" (http://inspire.adobe.com/2014/11/7/free_adobe_photoshop_cc_texture.html).  I decided to try the texture - Metal Texture 08 by Niklas K. Andersen.
Using the Creative Cloud Desktop app on Windows, I found my way to the Market.  For you information, this was my first time using the Market feature.  When I attempted to add it to "My Library," I got the message
"Market Assets are a Premium feature only available to 'CC Complete' and 'Single App' members"
    Two questions:
as a subscriber to the CC Photography Plan, am I not a 'Single App' member?
If the answer to (1) is no, then why doesn't Adobe make it clear that the "Free Texture" is only for premium subscribers?
