4472 external trigger source name

Dear All,
I have a PCI-4472B which I want to program in order to acquire a signal from channel 0 whenever it recives a TTL signal throw the External Trigger input.
I'm using a modified example but I don't know which is the name of the external trigger source. I always recive this kind of error (for example if I connect a string containing "EXT_TRIG"):
code: "-200265"
"DAQmx Start Task.vi:1<append>
<B>Property: </B>Start.AnlgEdge.Src
<B>Corresponding Value: </B>EXT_TRIG
<B>Task Name: </B>_unnamedTask<DB>"
The program I'm using is of this form:
First of all, does this error mean that I didn't input the right external trigger source name?
If so, which is the right name of the external trigger source for NI4472B?
Thank you for help

Hi tooooommi,
would you mind expanding the error message? I cannot see the entire message and there should be more information about the error that we can use to solve it.
Also, have you tried connecting another Physical Channel control (like the one that you connect to the AI Voltage function) to the Start Analog Edge function? That may allow you to browse to find the right source for your analog trigger.
Let me know, so I can try to help you further. Best,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello there,
The error pops up because there is no channel named EXT-TRIG. If you are receiving a trigger from channel 0, I think the best way is to specify the channel name in the `DAQmx Start Task`.  There is a terminal where you can specify the channel name and use that name as an string input for the trigger. I think this should solve the problem.
I refered from this knowledge base.
    http://ae.natinst.com/public.nsf/webPreview/BEBB10D02D72798A8625736B0076B09A?OpenDocument
Also, seems like you have `start analog edge` trigger. Since you want to get TTL signal, why not try `start digital edge` trigger?

  • Excel SSAS Tabular error: An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source

    Hello there,
I have an Excel report I created which works perfectly fine on my dev environment, but fails on my test environment when I try to do a data refresh.
The key difference between both dev and test environments is that in dev, everything is installed in one server:
    SharePoint 2013
SQL 2012: Database Instance, SSAS Instance, SSRS for SharePoint, SSAS POWERPIVOT instance (Powerpivot for SharePoint).
In my test and production environments, the architecture is different:
SQL DB Servers in High Availability (irrelevant for this report since it is connecting to the tabular model, just FYI)
SQL SSAS Tabular server (contains a tabular model that processes data from the SQL DBs).
2x SharePoint Application Servers (we installed both SSRS and PowerPivot for SharePoint on these servers)
2x SharePoint FrontEnd Servers (contain the SSRS and PowerPivot add-ins).
Now in dev, test and production, I can run PowerPivot reports that have been created in SharePoint without any issues. Those reports can access the SSAS Tabular model without any issues, and perform data refresh and OLAP functions (slicing, dicing, etc).
The problem is with Excel reports (i.e. .xlsx files) uploaded to SharePoint. While I can open them, I am having a hard time performing a data refresh. The error I get is:
"An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source [...]"
I ran SQL Profiler on my SSAS Server where the Tabular instance is and I noticed that every time I try to perform a data refresh, I get the following entries:
Every time I try to perform a data refresh, two entries under the user name ANONYMOUS LOGON.
Since things work without any issues on my single-server dev environment, I tried running SQL Server Profiler there as well to see what I get.
As you can see from the above, in the dev environment the query runs without any issues and the user name logged is in fact my username from the dev environment domain. I also have a separated user for the test domain, and another for the production domain.
Now upon some preliminary investigation I believe this has something to do with the data connection settings in Excel and the usage (or no usage) of secure store. This is what I can vouch for so far:
Library containing reports is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
Library containing data connections is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
The Data Provider referenced in the Excel report (MSOLAP.5) is configured as trusted in SharePoint Central Admin.
In the Excel report, the Excel Services authentication settings is set as "use authenticated user's account". This wortks fine in the DEV environment.
Concerning SecureStore, PowerPivot Configurator has configured it the PowerPivotUnnattendedAccount application ID in all the environments. There is
NO configuration of an Application ID for Excel Services in any of the environments (Dev, test or production). Altough I reckon this is where the solution lies, I am not 100% sure as to why it fails in test and prod. But as I read what I am
writing, I reckon this is because of the authentication "hops" through servers. Am I right in my assumption?
Could someone please advise what am I doing wrong in this case? If it is the fact that I am missing an Secure Store entry for Excel Services, I am wondering if someone could advise me on how to set ip up? My confusion is around the "Target Application
    Type" setting.
    Thank you for your time.
    Regards,
    P.

    Hi Rameshwar,
PowerPivot workbooks contain embedded data connections. To support workbook interaction through slicers and filters, Excel Services must be configured to allow external data access through embedded connection information. External data access is required
for retrieving PowerPivot data that is loaded on PowerPivot servers in the farm. Please refer to the steps below to solve this issue:
In Central Administration, in Application Management, click Manage service applications.
    Click Excel Services Application.
    Click Trusted File Location.
Click http:// or the location you want to configure.
In External Data, in Allow External Data, click Trusted data connection libraries and embedded.
    Click OK.
    For more information, please see:
Create a trusted location for PowerPivot sites in Central Administration:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee637428.aspx
Another reason is Excel Services returns this error when you query PowerPivot data in an Excel workbook that is published to SharePoint, and the SharePoint environment does not have a PowerPivot for SharePoint server, or the SQL Server Analysis
Services (PowerPivot) service is stopped. Please check this document:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff487858(v=sql.110).aspx
Finally, here is a good article regarding how to troubleshoot PowerPivot data refresh for your reference. Please see:

  • Sharepoint 2013 Excel External Data Source Refresh Issue

I have been facing this issue for quite some time now.. i have created an Excel sheet in Excel-13 and have imported data from an external data source [SQL server 2012].
Everything is working fine, with the excel sheet on the desktop. Data refreshes, every-time i open the excel file and also at regular intervals that i have configured in the data source properties.
The problem begins when i save that excel sheet on my sharepoint server. the issues that i am facing are :
    1. Changes made into the original data source, are not reflected immediately inside the excel sheet inside the browser. after 5-10 minutes, it reflects the changes..
    2. The data doesn't refreshes automatically. After i update my data inside the sql server table, i have to manually trigger the refresh of the data connection when viewing the excel sheet inside the browser, even though i have marked "Refresh when opening
the file", and refresh every 1 minute inside the excel sheet. Any solutions ??
I have been troubled a lot by this issue, and seek for some quick solution.. Any help here ??

I found the solution finally, my self ..
Issue - 1 : It's going to take atleat 5-minutes to refresh the data connection, that is generally not a big time span.
    Issue - 2 :
--> Set Your connection to refresh everytime the file is opened. go to internet explorer -> file -> internet options -> general -> Browsing History -> Settings -> Check for newer versions of stored pages... Check 'Every time I visit the
    webpage'.
Now everytime i update your original data source, wait for 5-10 minutes and refresh my web page containing the excel sheet.. The Contents of the excel sheet are updated as desired..

  • Data-acquisition with NI 6036E DAQ card & GPIB using an external trigger

    Hi all,
I hope somebody could give me some help with the following and answer some questions:
    Simple system description:
    Labview 6.1
    PCI-GPIB card
    6036E DAQ card
In my system, I am using an external analog trigger signal (A) for continuous data-acquisition. Characteristics of the analog trigger signal (A) are: ~40 Hz, signal height +1.48V, triggered by rising edge (the analog trigger signal (A) could be changed to a TTL signal). Each data-acquisition is done within ~1.0 ms after the rising edge of the trigger pulse. The timing of the data-acquisition and analyzing procedure is controlled by execution in a sequence structure placed in a loop.
Now, I connected a power meter to the system, to measure the laser power during the data-acquisition. The power meter has two options to provide the laser power data:
    a) via analog signal output (voltage corresponds to laser power in watts)
    b) via GPIB (direct output reading of laser power in watts).
    Problem:
During a certain point in my data-acquisition sequence structure (defined by a frame), I want to use the next occuring analog trigger signal (A) to acquire 1 value from the power meter.
How do I do this in Labview programming for the following two situations?
    a) If I connect the analog output from the power meter to an analog input channel of the 6036E DAQ card. The analog trigger (A) would be connected to a second analog input channel (In case the analog trigger signal (A) is changed to a TTL signal it would be connected to the PFI0/Trig input pin on the DAQ card).
    b) If I use the GPIB connection of the power meter. The analog trigger (A) would be connected to a second analog input channel (In case the analog trigger signal (A) is changed to a TTL signal it would be connected to the PFI0/Trig input pin on the DAQ card).
An other possibility would be to trigger the power meter directly, so it outputs constantly power meter values at ~40 Hz. How could I than acquire 1 power meter value (at a certain time im my sequence structure) via analog input at DAQ card or GPIB?
    Additional questions:
How do I configure the PFI0/Trig pin on the 6036E DAQ board individually as an INPUT?
How do I use an analog trigger signal (A) as counting signal for a loop, or as an activation signal for a sequence structure which includes GPIB commands?
It would be very nice if somebody could give me some help.
    Kind regards,
    beam

    Hi beam,
I just want to verify that I understand your situation correctly:
An external trigger signal (A) is wired to one of your input channels (e.g. CH0) to trigger data acquisition of a second channel (e.g. CH1). Your power meter is connected to an analog input channel, which you would like to trigger with a certain rising edge at some of your sequence structure.
If a task has been configured to acquire signal from one analog channel, it's not possible to run a second analog input task or to add a second channel on the fly. You had mentioned that it's possible to read from the instrument through GPIB. Is it possible to perform a software trigger such that at a certain frame of your structure, when the trigger signal A reaches voltage "x", a GPIB command is written to your power meter to query a measurement reading?
    Additional questions:
How do I configure the PFI0/Trig pin on the 6036E DAQ board individually as an INPUT?
You do not need to explicitly configure the PFI0 line as an input. If you want to use it as an input such that it acts as an analog trigger, simply wire the trigger signal to this pin. When configuring the trigger in your software, specify PFI0 as the trigger source.
How do I use an analog trigger signal (A) as counting signal for a loop, or as an activation signal for a sequence structure which includes GPIB commands?
You can try using the Limit VI to find out when the trigger signal reaches a certain level, and count how many times this level is reached. Similarly, you can use this as the condition to execute GPIB commands.
    Hope this helps,
    Lesley

  • I have new hard drive in macbook pro(08) and have SATA cable with external power source to old hard drive (10.5.8)via. USB port and newer drive(10.6.8) will not recognize older drive..Do I need to partition newer drive with older disk to recover data?

I have new HD 750GB Hybrid in 2008 Macbook Pro 17" w/ Snow Leopard 10.6.8  connected to old Hard drive(250GB that had 10.5.8 on it at time of failure) via SATA cable to USB port with external power source.. Computer not acknowledging old HD at all in Disk Utility or otherwise (that I'm aware of)..Do I need to partition New HD and load old(10.5.8) onto partition to recognize older drive for data recovery? Thanks Wayno08

You do not need to load 10.5.8 onto your new drive in order for a 10.6.8 system to see the contents of a 10.5.8 system.
You might want to check out the hard drive troubleshooting bootk in the downloads section of this web site:
    http://scsc-online.com
They also sell a product named Phoenix that can do OS extraction  and volume copying/cloning, but to be honest I don't know if it's appropriate in this case.
    I would suggest the following:
Open up Terminal.app (under utilities) and type "diskutil list" without the quotes. This is the command line version of Disk Utility. If the external drive doesn't show up at all, then it's likely not connected properly, not getting power, or just plain dead. If it shows up with only a devce name like disk0s16 but no volume it means the drive is seen, the OS just can't make sense of it.
Assuming the drive shows up, I would try to boot off the original installl disks for the system and run Disk Utility from that. I'm assuming the drive will show up. You'll want to select the option to repair the drive and then perform the option to repair the permissions.
If the unit isn't showing up, as per step 1, try a different USB port. More importantly with your unit, try it on another side of the unit if possible. If you read the book I referenced above, some of those units have I/O boards that are separated from the logic board. If the cable from the logic board to the I/O card goes bad or has problems, which isn't all that uncommon, some or all of the ports on the I/O card may appear to be bad as well. If you use a USB port on another side, it would be routing out of a completely different I/O path, so that's a potential problem.
If the drive is only seen with a device name such as disk0s16, it's likely either the index files are corrupt beyond Disk Utility's ability to see them. The  only thing that I think would help would be a product named DIsk Warrior, but I can't guarantee that.
Disk Warrior can be found at:
    http://www.alsoft.com/diskwarrior/
The company that I linked in the first link above also makes a product named Scannerz that does HD and system testing. The Scannerz/Disk Warrior combination make a good pair because the complement each other....Scannerz does what Disk Warriror can't and Disk Warrior does what Scannerz can't. However, at this point I'm not too sure getting a tool like Scannerz would be of much use because it sounds like the  damage has already been done.
    Let us know what happens.

  • External Query Source in reports...

    Dear Oracle Friends
Description: I have a report on master table with 5 columns. I prepared an interface to call the report using Forms 6.0. User is allowed to set the WHERE clause, ORDER BY clause and sorting order (ascending/descending). In order to give this flexibility I specified external query source in my report. Whenever the user selects the criteria I just update that query file.
Problem: When I set the EXTERNAL QUERY SOURCE FILE property by selecting the path using dialogue box, this path is hard coded in the report. At the time of development the location of SQL file is say C:\ORAWIN95\FORMS60\XXX SYSTEM\REPORTS\SQLS\ but when I install the application at User machine the location of SQL file will be say D:\ORAWIN95\XXX_SYS\REPORTS\SQLS\. When I run the report at User machine is generates the error 'External Query source not found...'
What I want to do: Dyanmically get the path of SQL file. I tried to give only the external query file name but it didn't worked.
    Any suggestions are most welcome.

You should be able to use REPORTS60_PATH for this. Just specify the filename (<x>.sql) inside the Builder, and ensure that the file is in one of the directories specified in the REPORTS60_PATH registry entry (which you can, of course, edit).

  • How do I auire data at every third pulse of an external trigger?

I need to aquire 2048 data points where each one is triggered by the third pulse of an external trigger (TTL). Currently I can aquire 2048 data points where each is triggered by every pulse of an external trigger but I need to be able to do this at every third trigger pulse. It seems that I can't do this simply by entering "2" into the "skip count" input of the "Additional Trig Parameters' input of the "AI Start" VI. My attempt is in the VI titled TriggerScanA.
Further more I will need to know the actual trigger scan rate for data analysis. This is also prooving difficult since even when I am triggering off every external trigger pulse the actual scan rate only returns zeros. My attempt is i
    n the VI entitled TriggerScanB.
    Thankyou.

    Greetings,
This sounds like an interesting application. I would suggest that you use your external pulse train as a scan clock, not as a start trigger. Furthermore, since you want to acquire data every third pulse, you will need to use one of your device's counters to divide-down this signal. To accomplish this task, you will need to configure the counter for pulse train generation with an external source - your external pulse train. You will then need to choose the correct "raw counts" to generate a pulse train with a frequency that is 1/3 of that of your external signal. I would suggest that you examine the example Generate Pulse Train (DAQ-STC).vi for this purpose. Now, you can perform a finite analog input acquisition of 2048 data points u
sing this pulse train as your scan clock. Finally, to determine the frequency of your scan clock, you will need to us your device's other counter to perform a frequency measurement of either pulse train.
I believe that this will be your best approach to accomplishing this task. Good luck with your application.

  • How to use an external trigger on an electrometer (KEITHLEY 6517A)

I'm really new using LABVIEW, so please, be patient with me...
I'm using a KEITHLEY electrometer to acquire data from a dosimeter. We are going to do some measurements on a pulsed source and before the pulse there's a trigger signal. I don't know the size of the trigger, I'll just know that when I start my measurements (in another lab) So I would like to implement a case were the user can decide the value of the external trigger, so this information goes to the eqipment before starting the measurement.
What I would like to know is... Someone can give me a hint on how to do that? I'm using GPIB and LABVIEW 7.1.  and I already took all the 6517A libraries for labview.
    Thank you all

The external trigger on a 6517 is a TTL signal. Any pulse higher than 3.4V will trigger it. You cannot program the threshold level.
You can set the delay programmatically with TRIG: DEL <n> command.

  • Does the external trigger of the 5152 count as a second channel?

    Hi everyone,
The PXI-5152 digitizer is listed as providing a 2GS/s sampling rate (TIS) for one channel only.  My question is whether or not the External Trigger channel counts as a "second channel" when used during data acquisition.  If so, does this cause the maximum acheivable sampling rate to drop to 1GS/s for my data channel (CH 0)?
My experience has been that this is the case, but I lack a smoking gun which explicitly states this.  When I use the external trigger to control data acquisition on Channel 0, I'm only ever able to acheive 1GS/s.  Am I making a mistake?
I was hoping that the trigger port would act as a simple comparator.  If not, does this imply that the external trigger channel is being sampled at 1GS/s?
    Many thanks,
    Jimmy

    Hi Jimmy,
The External Trigger is not digitized and therefore is not a second channel. It is appropriate to consider it like a comparator.  It can be used as an analog trigger source for the TIS acquisition on channel 0 to achieve 1 channel at 2 GS/s.  I am not sure why you are only achieving 1 GS/s.
I recommend starting with an example program such as "Configured Acquisition".  You can navigate to this example through the Example Finder, or by using your Start Menu and navigating to All Programs>>National Instruments>>NI-SCOPE>>Examples.  Select your preferred programming environment such as LabVIEW and locate Configured Acquisition.
Once you have the example open try the following settings to achieve 2GS/s on ch0 triggered from the external trigger input. Set the sampling rate to 2GS/s, the channel to 0, check "TIS Enabled", and ensure that Enforce Realtime is also checked.  Set the trigger type to Edge, and the trigger source to the External Trigger.

  • Timed sequence doesn't work right with external timing source

I'll describe first what I want to accomplish and
then maybe someone can read further and suggest why the attached VI
doesn't work. I have a SMU (PXI 4130) that takes differing amounts of
time to set a current depending on if the setting spans a range
boundary. I want to be able to make that SMU setting and then wait a
specific amount of time (sometimes 1 msec). If the SMU takes a little
longer to return then I want that extra time to come out of the wait
time. To do this I figured I would need an external time source to
control a timed sequence to give better than the normal 1 msec
resolution. So now onto the problems I'm having.
    I've
got two problems here that I would really appreciate some insight on.
The attached VI is the subject of both problems (as is the VI is
worthless, but it illustrates the problem). Note that you need some
type of DAQ board with a counter on it to run it.
    I can't
figure out why this timed sequence doesn't work with an external timing
source. It works mostly as expected (see next problem) with the
internal source, but fails miserably with the external source. Run the
VI as is to get a baseline. Then connect the DAQmx Create Timing Source
VI to the Source Name input of the timed structure. It seems like it
should run exactly the same both ways.
    Problem 2 (run with the
internal timing source). The VI should take the same amount of time to
execute regardless of the input to the Wait VI (within reason of
course). That's actually the main impetus for this whole exercise. But
according to the Actual End indicator it runs faster with a longer wait
    time.

    test timed sequence.vi ‏144 KB

Hi George, I have been playing with the code that you have posted and I think I am seeing what your concern is with regards to the first problem that you stated.  Without running the code I would expect both internal and external timing to cause the VI to run in the exact same manner, however obviously that is not the case.  I am currently looking into this behavior and I will post you a response as soon as I have an answer for you.
As for the second problem, If you look at the manner in which you have coded this VI, a 1ms wait in the first frame will lead to a calculation of 1999ms wait in the second frame, and thus 5 iterations of 1999ms or about 99,995ms total running time.  If you increase the wait in the first frame to say 50ms, then an overall all wait of 1950ms is calculated in the second frame so not the overall iteration time is now 1950 which, over 5 iteration leads to 99,750ms thus as you increase the wait in the first loop the overall loop duration will be less.  This is expected behavior.
Again I will post back once I have a clarification on the internal vs external timing.
