My Linksys WRT300N died, after exactly 1 year of service

Had lots of problems with it. I bought it just 13 months ago. Warranty is 12 months. I am glad that it died. I switched my old D-link wireless router back on, and it worked like a charm. Never again Linksys. Last visit to this site. Wish you all good luck. James Wang

500gb is huge compared to most and I wonder if you are considered a heavy user in this context
Heavy users: Heavy users can cause peak traffic volumes to exceed the engineered maximum load. In practice this refers to a very small proportion of users of a network whose use is excessive to the extent that it impacts on other users.

Concerning: VGA monitors using an Aluminum Powerbook G4 PowerPC 2004 15"-screen 1.5Ghz
The DVI (converted to VGA) video output stopped working on this computer after 9 years of service. This raises question 1:
Is there any way of fixing this? I've tried the usual: triple checked all vga cables & devices through trial & error. Bought a new DVI-VGA adapter. Reset PRAM, PMU, etc. Nothing works. Something is probably damaged, because my KVM switch was not working unless I hot-reseated the vga cable into it, leading to this DVI port, and that is pretty rough stuff.
    Question 2 (related):
This dovetails into this: Can I drive a VGA monitor with the s-video output port on this computer. It would take an s-video (male)-to-15-pin-VGA adapter. Has anyone does this? So far, I haven't even found the adapter mentioned anywhere.
    Thanks for reading this.

Thanks for the useful feedback, Knucklesmac. I agree. I must have blown something on the logic board -- because I had a faulty old KVM switch that would not switch between computers without some nasty hot-plugging/unplugging the VGA video cables. (wince!). It's like when Dizzy Dean ruined his arm because a line drive hit him in the foot and he readjusted his mechanics around the injury. I take the blame because this has been a great computer, and does not deserve any blame.
If it will help anyone else reading this thread, C2G (née Cables to Go) has some interesting ideas for still getting external video out of this computer:
    -USB-to-VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/30545
-Convert s-video or composite video signals to high resolution VGA
    http://www.cablestogo.com/product/40971
The price range is $75-$85, which doesn't make horse sense to me for such an old computer -- which has a lot of life in it anyway, because its own 15" monitor is not chopped liver.

  • Harddrive died after 1 year

my hardrive died after only 1and1/2 year of web surfing and photos .IS THIS USUAL ???

I understand that Apple says that the hard drive become their property, so if you go in for repair, make sure to wipe the hard drive if you can.  If not, demand they give it back to you because it has private info on it and you want to send it to a hard drive recovery company to retrieve important photos and documents (even if you don't intend on doing that, just say it anyway).  They should give it back to you if you remain calm and polite, but remain firm.
My experience with this, at least in Australia, is that the Service Provider will ask you to call Apple for an 'exception' so that AppleCare give the OK for this. You need to have a good reason for this though, as doing this just because you didn't backup is sometimes not good enough.
But you're right in that if you're calm and polite but also push your point, Apple have a habit of bending over backwards for you. All the can do is say no, right?

  • Basically I am having 2 issues 1) CS5 no longer showing up on my account 2) Version is MAC but needing to install onto Windows soon as Mac is dying after 4 years

In 2010 I bought CS5 and feel like an idiot after spending a small fortune to get the software I always wanted I now find it unsupported, not listed on my account despite registering and such. My iMac is four years old and is dying as such will be replacing it with a new Windows PC soon, I am soon graduating from university, my wallet is essentially dry and feel cheated via the fact CS5.5 came out a while back and can't transfer my software from Mac to Windows without an additional cost which I can not afford. Basically as a games designer, ex-student and at a time where this is all critical I find out that CS5 is not supported and no longer on my account page. Very upset

    Download CS5 products
The rest is beside the point. Serial numbers always have been platform specific and swaps limited to current versions.

  • Battery died after one year.  Will not charge.  Why?

I spent $125 on a nano last year and in 12 months it wont charge.  Yes I have it plugged into a wall outlet.  Has been for 14 hours now ans still wont charge.  Is the recommendation to buy a new one?

Scott - Your answer ultimately led me to the answer, albeit months later, after much internal deliberation and some trial and error... thanks!
Ruled out battery (as crazy as that sounds - it's had a bajillion cycles) as it didn't make sense that battery would charge but wouldn't work while awake. I have a friend whose battery is completely shot and his still works as long as magsafe is plugged in, and mine wouldn't even do that. tried another adapter and that worked. then tried mine in a different plug. so in the end, turns out I had a bum powerstrip... mag safe / battery recharge works properly when just plugged in somewhere different.
So no need to buy a new charger or battery (yet!)
    thanks to all,

  • Customer Support Nightmare - Cannot believe it after 10 years of service

    TO VERIZON:
This is my fourth contact to you to make a simple plan change, at least the first person on the phone told me would be simple.  Here is a summery of what I sent via your webpage.  Please tell me who can really help me and not tell me that it was done and do nothing or promise me a return call to disappear from the face of the earth.
I have been a customer for 10 years and believe I am finished. I have spent 7 (9 now including this morning) hours trying to resolve an issue. Your representative stated they could lower my bill but due to circumstances I had to go to the store to do it. They said they would put specific notes on my account so we didn't have to spend another two hours working it out. t went to the store and spent 4 hours there with another representative who couldn't seem to figure this out until I said "forget it, I would just go to Sprint.  (That was why I called the above representative in the first place as I had already done an application and was attempting to transfer my number) Suddenly it became possible to do what the first representative stated would be easy. Another Customer witnessed the entire event. I can give you her contact info. Then I found out yesterday that after all this, they did not even bother to make the changes to my plan. They gave me "yes yes lip service" and did nothing.  I was at the store for a total of 4.5 hours.
Yesterday I contacted you again by phone(after realizing online that my plan had not been changed), a representative named Dylan said he, was going to call the store and call me back. He said they would definitely get this taken care of. It is now 8am the next day and no one has contacted me. There is clearly no one in your company that can follow through. I have already applied to both Sprint and T-Moblie and while I hate to do it. I am furious. I will be trying to make a decision today. I am so angry, I do not know if I want to stay even if they change my lines. This should be so simple, it is a change to my plan and I have wasted a day of my life and raised my blood pressure because every seems completely incompetent. At the very least, even if I leave, I want you to know why. I want a lot of people to know why.

Julie, I have no idea what type of plan changes you are referring to but you can change your plan at anytime at http://www.verizonwireless.com under your account, under the device shown etc.
In very rare cases you will get a system message saying the transaction could not be done and to call 800-922-0204 to speak to a customer service representative. Again I have never had this issue.
If I read your missive correctly you have applied to what? There is no application to leave and port out your service to T-Mobile or Sprint or even AT&T.
All that is needed is your full account number off your billing invoice or from the My Account screen at the web portal.
You give that and your Verizon account password which normally is the last four digits of your social security number.
It can take the other provider 20 minutes or 24 hours. Once done it cancels the line account at Verizon wireless.
If you are feeling unhappy and agitated it is always best to wait an hour or longer to compose yourself and either port out or continue with other methods to get what is necessary done.
    Good Luck

  • WRT54G: Dead after a year?

I've had this WRT54G for a year or so, it's worked well since I bought it.  However tonight my network just died completely out of nowhere.  I couldn't figure out what the problem was, because my router was still getting a DHCP server from the modem and was giving my computers on the network their correct addresses.  However, I could not ping/traceroute ANYTHING outside of my network.
I then took my computer and hardwired it straight to the modem.  Everything works fine, obviously since I am posting this.  I tried soft reseting the router.  That did not work.  I tried checking all the settings, they were all fine.  I tried a hard reset by allowing factory defaults and reconfiguring the entire router again, that also did nothing.  I am pretty much assuming the router is dead.  I've tried about everything short of opening it up which would not help the situtation.
I guess my question is:  Is it normal for a linksys router to die after a year?  A lot of the linksys routers I've owned have not lasted more than two years, which in my opinion, is really, really bad.  I would suggest Cisco to work on the longevity of their routers, because I'm probably not going to buy one of their products this time.

As you can login to your router's web interface you should first upgrade it's firmware...
Download the Router's firmware from here
Follow these steps to upgrade the firmware on the device : -
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on a computer hard wired to the router...
In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1...Leave the Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
Click on the 'Administration' tab- Then click on the 'Firmware Upgrade' sub tab- Here click on 'Browse' and browse the .bin firmware file and click on "Upgrade"...
Wait for few seconds until it shows that "Upgrade is successful"  After the firmware upgrade, click on "Reboot" and you will be returned back to the same page OR it will say "Page cannot be displayed".
    Now reset your router :
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...
If your Internet Service Providor is Cable follow this link
If your Internet Service Providor is DSL follow this link

  • My battery died after 3 yrs and 3 months??????

I don't know if my ipod is the classic. I bought the 20 GB in July 2005.
Is this common for the battery to die after 3 years? I turned it on and it made this funny noise. Then a pic of the battery and the triangle with the ! showed up. What do I do now? Thanks

Apple will replace the battery for you. They replace the iPod with a refurbished item, so you lose whatever was on your iPod. Info is here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/battery/
Various third-party vendors will also replace the battery, or sell you a kit to do it yourself. The iPod does look like it's a totally seamless item, but it can be disassembled pretty easily. There are videos on YouTube that show how it's done, and most of the kit-sellers provide detailed instructions. Just Google "ipod battery replacement" and you'll find tons of sites. Look at ipodjuice.com - they have lots of information about battery replacement, disassembly, iPod model identification, etc (I'm not endorsing them, I just think their site is very informative).

  • Do Apple products die after a given time?

My iMac is three and a half years old and keeps freezing! Will not boot consistently, after waking from sleep the Apps running are non functional. Engineers don't know why?? Also, my Time Capsule died after two years and I had to buy another. Could have had 4/5 PC's for the money!!
These problems have caused me much loss of time/money not to mention the inconvenience and potential loss of data.
I have recommended iMac and other Apple products to large numbers of people, whom I hope don't have the same problems as me. My confidence in Apple has taken a huge dent. It seems that the only way the engineers can fix the machine to keep changing components!! In the meantime, I can't get on with my endeavours to make a living.

    Engineers don't know why??
You've had this in for a proper diagnosis? Who are the "engineers?"
You may have several concurrent issues. But we need more specifics to be able to help.
In the meantime, Applejack may help. At the prompt, type in "applejack AUTO" and let it run through its agenda.

The first boot after will be slower than usual and it may take several restarts for you to see the benefits, if any.
You should also run the Hardware Test in extended.

  • Security Deposit Refund after one year

I have paid every phone bill for the past 11 months and I am wondering when I am eligible to have my security deposit returned. I have had no luck with other inquiries I have made regarding this deposit in the past.

        Hi Brandon,
I appreciate your inquiry about the security deposit. In order to be eligible to receive a security deposit refund in full, the account must meet several criteria:
      • 350 days of active service (the 350 days begins from the point of activation, not from the time the security deposit is applied to the account).
      • No suspensions due to non-payment.
      • 12 consecutive months of timely, uninterrupted service.
      • No payments returned from bank
Account balance current (no more than 30 days past due).
      • No related account delinquent or written off requiring payment.
If the account remains active after one year of service, the security deposit will be automatically refunded within 1 - 2 billing cycles.

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.
