4710 -standby cold

I just configured FT on our 4710's running software 4.1
We currently only have 3 contexts.....Admin/Development/Reserved
Howerver I only configured an FT group for the Development context.
The configs seemed to have replicated to the secondary but ft group status tells me it is in standby cold?
I'm not sure if my config is wrong

i've seen the "standby cold" state in the past (this state is not documented) during upgrades

  • Cisco10008 PRE3 stuck in standby-cold

we have dual PRE3 on cisco10008 series router and after a PRE switchover standby PRE stays in standby-cold state whereas with SSO configured it should reach hot-standby and the message that is displayed on primary console %ISSU-3-INCOMPATIBLE_PEER_UID: Peer image (C10K3-P11-M), version (12.2(31)SB11) on peer uid (2) is incompatible

Try to ROMMON the PRE to see whether there's soemthing wrong. The PRE2 and the PRE3 commands are not exactly the same.
The PRE3 a number of hidden commands to support PRE2 upgrades.
The PRE3 is not yet supported by CiscoView. Package version 10.0 for the C10K only supports the PRE1 and PRE2 modules. The same is true for RME SWIM. I currently do not have an ETA on when this route engine will be supported. You should probably open a TAC service request to get that information

  • Restoring and recovering datafiles in standby database

    Hi,
    oracle version : 8i(8.1.7.0.0)
    os : sun solaris
I have scenerio where i lost some of the datafiles in standby database(physical standby) and i do have standby cold backup 3 months older since database size is 1TB is can i restore the the only lost files from cold backup and recover using archivelog files. since i only lost 4 data files of size 4gb each it will be faster compare to restoring the whole TB size database.
    appreciated for valuable inputs.
    Thanks

  • ACE keep probing real servers using "https get 302"

    Hi all,
I got one problem with cisco ACE in my company. Currently, two ACE appliances are working as HA redundancy. Previously I enabled some https and http probing using get 302 for some servers and services. But then I was told to remove all https or http probing, and instead use tcp port 443 and 80. After that, one of the serverfarm (server groups) is receiving https get 302 and I already checked in the monitoring and see whether there's any https probing regarding the respected real servers. But I could not find any. Even I disable all probing to that serverfarm, all the server members still receiving https get 302. Is this behavior a bug?
The ACE version is A3(2.1). And the HA status is on standby cold. Can standby cold cause this kind of trouble?

    Hi Daniel,
I just corrected the cert problem and made the state peer into standby hot. But still it still keep probing the get 302. And then I tried to restart both ACEs. The first step is to restart the second ACE (standby) and then switched over all context to the second one. The problem is that when I made the second one to be active, some services were not working, especially the ones with ssl terminated in ACE. I'm pretty sure that both ACEs were in sync.
Any idea what is the problem?

    Thanks & Regards
    Ahmed...

    Dear All,
After going through the cisco documentation, I found that this is an expected behavior.
The RPR redundancy state (standby sup in STANDBY COLD state) it’s absolutely expected to see standby booting only to to some point.
It passes the console owership to RP and hungs.
The bootup process continues when the switchover happens.
You can find the confirmation in the following document:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12-2SX/configuration/guide/book/redund.html#wp1023627
The fact that standby sup is not fully booted is also mentioned in the following document:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-6500-series-switches/prod_white_paper0900aecd801c5cd7.html

  • Create a standby controlfile using cold backup

    Hi All,
We have to setup a DR for a production database.
Here we have the coldbackup which backups all the datafiles and the control file from the production database.
For cloining we generally copy them to another instance and then create controlfile manually. But for setting up as a DR , we would be creating it for standby controlfile.
I tried to google but I am not able to find a way to create a standby controlfile from the existing controlfile cold backup.
OS version solaris 10 , database version 11.2.0.1

  • 7.5 Standby apply log issue - Cold backup of standby

We are in the process of migrating to 7.8 from 7.5 and have a 7.5 standby. Needed to test the time is takes to backup from the standby once we go-live on the 7.8 64bit server. Logs have been applied to the 7.5 standby for more than a month just fine prior to doing a "cold" backup test on the standby. Now the logs will not apply to the standby.

Logrecovery is not allowed, because state of log volume is 'HistoryLost' (log must be cleared)

Initialization of log for 'restore log' failed with 'LogAndDataIncompatible'
First - backing up the standby in ADMIN mode / cold backup on the standby database, right?  The source and target (standby) have different server names.
Is it possible to clear the log area or some other process to fix the issue?

    Hi Mike,
You may need to restore the database with re-intialization and clear the logs
Refer to the copy steps described in the thread

    Hope this helps.

  • Build standby database using cold backup on a different file system & host

    Hi gurus,
The database version is 11.2.0.3. OS is HP UX Itanium 11.31
I am building a standby database using cold backup of primary. The primary mount points are (/p003/oracle, /p004/oracle) on HOST1 and the standby file system on HOST2 are (/s003/oracle,/s004/oracle). I am not using Data Guard to apply logs as we have a script that mounts the log location periodically to standby server and apply the logs to make it current. I am using cold backup as the database is small like 200G and can be taken down. Could someone help me with the steps to build standby using cold backup for a different file location in standby ?? My concern is I can copy the data files from /p003 to /s003. How will I build the controlfile ?
If it was same File system on both HOST 1 and HOST2 I can copy the cold backup to the standby server, build a standby control file on primary and copy and replace the standby control file and everything was set.
    Thanks

    Hello;
I have a note on this using a cold copy of the current files instead of a copy backup :

  • BO Edge Cold Standby System

Theoretically, if I create a cold standby BO Edge system that remains off unless the primary system goes down, will pointing it to the (1) primary filestore (I/O FRS') and (2) primary CMS system & audit databases (SQL 2005) cause any problems so long as the standby system isn't running at the same time as the primary system?
In a scenario where there aren't any continuously or regularly mirrored copies of these databases, and only the backups (*.bak), this would be in order to avoid having the additional manual process of restoring the backups to a secondary system and audit databases before switching on the standby BO Edge system.
So long as there is a network available backup of the filestore available, I could point the standby system to that filestore -- but unless the system & audit DB is backed up at the same time I'm fearful of synchronization issues.

This is allowed in the sense that (installing a cold standby, using a Production key) is not expressly forbidden in the license. That said, you could always remove the key from the stand by server once BO Edge is installed and configured, add the key when your primary server goes down.

  • ACE Cold Standby

    Hi,
I've got an question about ACE modules in HA, when one of the switch is reloaded a couple of the ACE contexts come up in cold standby. I've check the config in the contexts to confirm that they match and the same ft interface is used by all contexts. When I do a switchover them come up in hot standby, has anybody seen this before ? I've looked at a couple of bugs in the standby area but can't see one to match.
    After reload.

    Maintenance mode : MAINT_MODE_OFF
    My State : FSM_FT_STATE_ACTIVE
    Peer State : FSM_FT_STATE_STANDBY_COLD
    Peer Id : 1
    No. of Contexts : 1
    After switchover.

    Peer Net Priority : 200
    Peer Preempt : Enabled
    Peer Id : 1
    The software version is 3.0(0)A1(4

do you have any files like script probes or ssl certificates/keys being used in the config ?
The files are not synchronized between the 2 ACE module, so if you copy a file on the active and use it, the standby will not accept the config if you do not upload the same file first.
Also, if you copy the file on the standby after changing the config, the ACE will stop auto-synch.
if this is not the case and you can reproduce the problem, you should open a service request with the TAC so that troubleshooting can be done.
    Gilles.

  • Ace 4710 active/standby SNMP config

We have 2 x Ace 4710 deployed in Active/Standby config. Since the configuration mode is disabled on the Standby unit, how can we configure the SNMP settings (such as location etc.) on the standby unit different from the active unit?
The 2 devices are in physically separated data centers so the SNMP location settings need to be set differently on both units. The standby unit does not allow any configuration.

    Comments inline:
Since this is the admin context,  we would better not do this. As i understand correctly, this will turn  off the config sync on the 2 units and we may end up with some issues.
KM - Correct, you need to manually manage the configurations of both devices.
Also,  if at a later stage, we sync the configs again in the admin context, it  will overwrite the different config on the standby unit with that from  the active unit?
KM - Correct, the device with the lower priority will be overwritten when config-sync is re-enabled.  This is one of the reasons you need to be careful in the Admin context.  For example: Ff the lower priority device has contexts defined that the primary does not, they would be removed when you re-enablethis command.
Since  my requirement is just the SNMP location config, I do not think i  should go for this; rather i can have some descriptive location setting  identifying the 2 units in cluster mode...
KM - This would be more ideal than disabling config sync.  You could also put both locations like this:
snmp-server location "San Jose, CA & Seattle, WA"

  • Move Publisher backup to new server( Cold Standby Server) ?

We have CUCM cluster consist of 1 publisher, 4 subscriber and have installed a new node like another cluster's publisher(with diferent ip address from existing publisher) . When existing publisher goes down we will move publisher backup to new server and change publisher ip address to new server on existing subscribers.
    is it posible ?
Our aim is using new server for publisher down issue.(like cold standby server but diferent ip address from existing publisher)
Or is there any better way to install publisher backup on on branch? When publisher goes down we will use the new server like publisher.

    Hi
Re: NTP... you can have multiple NTP servers assigned, and only the primary NTP server is used for license MAC generation. As such, I would:
    1) set the primary NTP server to be the real NTP address you want to use. This will not be accessible when you build the server with the old servers' IP.
    2) set the secondary NTP server to an accessible NTP server. I do this by setting up NTP on the server you serve the SFTP backup file from. I use Meinberg NTP if this is a Windows box, it's free.
That way you can build the server (primary NTP not accessible, but secondary is so it's fine). Then after the restore, change IP address and it will start using the primary NTP server.
I presume deployment type refers to product and role .e.g. a CUCM Publisher, not a CUC server or CUCMBE publisher.

  • Cold Standby Server for Crystal Reports Server...

    Hi there,
We have the confirmation from Hong Kong SAP that Crystal Reports Server 2008 does not come with any clustering feature as Business Objects Enterprise does. We are to set up a cold standby server for the production server for high availability. Below is our procedures to work it out:
    1) we set up two machines for CRS 2008 with the same licence key and identical hardware; otherwise we clone the production machine to an identical hardware for a cold standby machine
    2) we are using our Oracle instance (same instance for both the production and the standby one) for CRS 2008 repository; we bring the production sever offline and perform the standby server installation of CRS 2008 without resetting the repository Oracle database
    3) we are to use a SAN LUN for storing the reports produced by CRS 2008
Once the production server does not work properly due to any hardware problem, we switch it off manually and turn on the standby machine and the Crystal Reports service should resume with no repository problem (all the settings) and no loss of printed reports. We would be grateful if you could confirm the feasibility of these procedures. Thanks a lot.
    Regards,
    Jason FU

Correct, CRS is for a single machine use only, that why it is not as expensive as the full BOE. Talk to Sales to upgrade.
