6.1 NPD

After installation, the NPD menu lacks all options other than Action Items. Clicking on Action Items takes you to the NPD module, but there is no way to create projects. Is this a configuration issue?

The user has the same rules as in our 6.0 environment and can access all NPD functionality there. Here are the roles:

  • How to add a new column (Project Number) in the action items table under NPD Module?

    There are two projects with same name and created by same person in NPD.
    So when it is displayed in "Action Items" table, It looks similar.
    To avoid this, I need one more column (Project Number) to be added in the "Action Items" table and " Strategic briefs and projects" table.
    So, How to add a new column (Project Number) in the "Action Items" table and " Strategic briefs and projects" table under NPD Module?
    Please do the needful.

    There is no out of the box configuration available to add columns to NPD action items.   As always we welcome enhancement requests.
    Thanks

    This user have only the row menu New Product Development. This user haven't the row menu" Portfolio Mgmt", "Templates", "Data Management" in the NPD's menu.
    Which could be the cause of this problem?

    User with role [NPD_PARTNER] will not see these 3 menus. Please remove it and try again.

  • How can i check the duplicate NPD project name?

    Dear all,
    I would like to know on how i can check the duplicate NPD's project name? I found that some NPD's project is initiate serveral time with the same or semilar name from user name. Supposing the project name was "Smart Pilot". I always found that project may type differently such as "Smart PILOT","smart pilot" or even "Smart Pilots". Supposing i would like to validate all of these name before save by using validation framework, or custom validation. Is it possible?
    Supposing it was possible, can you please guiding me on how?
    Thank you so much in advance for all of the answer.
    Phaithoon W.

    So here is some example code for a quick validator. Note that this uses a hard coded English error message, rather than a translation. If you want to use translations instead, look at some of the examples in the ReferenceImplementations\Validation\SourceCode\ReferenceValidation folder in the Extensibility Pack, and review the Validation Training as well (in the ReferenceImplementations\Validation\Documentation folder).
    Note that the provided code is for demonstration purposes only and is not supported by Oracle.
    The classes:
    using System;
    using System.Data;
    using System.Xml;
    using Xeno.Data.NPD;
    using Xeno.Prodika.Application;
    using Xeno.Prodika.Services;
    using Xeno.Prodika.Validation;
    using Xeno.Prodika.Validation.Validators;
    namespace Oracle.Agile.PlmProcess.Validation
        public class NPDUniqueProjectNameValidatorFactory : XmlConfigValidatorFactoryBase
            protected override IValidator Create_Internal(XmlNode configNode)
                return new NPDUniqueProjectNameValidator();
        public class NPDUniqueProjectNameValidator : BaseValidator
            private const string sql = @"select 1 as dup from NPDPROJECTML where UPPER(title) = UPPER ('{0}') and FKPROJECT <> '{1}' and LANGID = {2}";
            public override bool Validate(IValidationContext ctx)
                var project = ctx.ValidationTarget as INPDProjectDO;
                bool hasDuplicate = false;
                string sqlToExecute = String.Format(sql, project.ProjectML.Title, project.PKID, UserService.UserContext.User.PreferredLanguage);
                using (IDataReader reader = AppPlatformHelper.DataManager.newQuery().execute(sqlToExecute))
                    if (reader.Read())
                        hasDuplicate = true;
                if (hasDuplicate)
                    ctx.AddError(String.Format("A project already exists with the name '{0}'.", project.ProjectML.Title));
                return hasDuplicate;
            private IUserService UserService
                get { return AppPlatformHelper.ServiceManager.GetServiceByType<IUserService>(); }
    Next, add the following to the ValidationSettings.xml file in config\Extensions:
    1. add the validator factory, with a reference name in the config:
    <ValidatorFactories>
            <!-- Custom  Validator Factory declaration goes here -->
            <add key="NPD_CheckProjectNameForDuplicate" value="Class:Oracle.Agile.PlmProcess.Validation.NPDUniqueProjectNameValidatorFactory,ReferenceValidation" />
    </ValidatorFactories>
    2. Add a rule for NPD project Save event:
    <rule type="3202">
                <condition event="save">
                    <if type="NPD_CheckProjectNameForDuplicate" require="true" report="true" />
                </condition>
    </rule>
    Compile the reference example into a dll, and add that dll into web\npd\bin
    When you try to save a project with a duplicate name, it should now give you the error message.

  • 6.1 NPD - Project Name and Status not showing in the Project Header

    I have this issue in 6.1 NPD - The NPD Project Name and Status is not showing in the Project header when opening a project. Any ideas? Thank you.

    Is this happening for NPD Projects that are newly created, prior to clicking Save? Or for already existing NPD projects?

    Hello, Danielle,
    Have you taken a look at the DB and Object Schema Doc that is provided with the extensibility pack? If not, i would start there. If the doc does not help, then it might help us to understand what problem you are trying to solve.

  • NPD Workflow Cancel Locks IE

    This is a really strange one 2 different users on two different PCs are having issue with in 6.1.0.1, patched to 32. Thought Id post here first before I open SR.
    They open an NPD activity ususally from an email notification they have received. They click the workflow button for the activity, and the workflow popup appears.
    Sometimes they realize they are not ready to workflow it, so they hit the Cancel button. The popup disappears, but then the activity and the browser is completely locked up.
    No scroll bars, no buttons work. They have to close the browser and start over.
    Now here is the weird part. I cant reproduce this on my Win 7, IE 8 laptop. Had a team member also try on his Win7, IE 8 machine. Works fine.
    These 2 users are Win XP, IE7. So we found another third Win XP with IE 7, and cant reproduce there either.
    So we compared all IE7 settings between this machine and the users, but everything matches.
    Anyone have an idea?
    And we cleared local IE caches too.

    ok we figured out what was going on here. If your editing an NPD activity and while in edit mode you click workflow, and then decide to cancel the wf popup using the Cancel button, the IE screen never refreshes. The scroll bars never return. To the user it looks like IE "locks up".
    Well I discovered if you simply click over to another tab and then back to the tab your were on it does the refresh and the scroll bars come back.
    We opened an SR because this is not acceptable behavior for a user that edits Routing Requirements all the time.

  • 6.1 NPD - Stategic Brief

    Hi,
    I have a problem when I create a new strategic brief. In Strategic Brief Tab appears this message: "No questions exist.".
    What and where should I set to solve this problem?

    Deploy EP 2.4.1 on Agile PLM for Process 6.0 version. Once this is done you can use Data Admin Toolkit widget. Other way is scripts you will find in EP pack. Go through below mentioned article in ORacle support to find more details:
    Oracle Database SQL Script Used To Load New Product Development (NPD) Stage & Strategic Brief Questions Missing From Extensibility Pack (EP) Version 2.4.1.0 [ID 1304438.1]

  • Show added attributes in a NPD project

    Hi,
    I am adding some Extended Attributes to an NPD project once the project is created. However, even that I already added the Extended Attributes to the project (are shown in the DB) these are not shown in the page until the NPD project is re-open (loading a different screen and going back to the project - this can be confusing for the user). I was expecting that once its saved to get a "refresh" and show the attributes, but that does not happen. Is there any way to approach this?.
    Thanks in advance,
    EDIT: I forgot to mention that I am adding the Extended Attributes with code and doing some functionality in the DB.
    Fernando

    Hi Feng,
    I am creating a custom Validation (it is a extensibility). The problem is this: I need to add a list of Extended Attributes to the NPD project and then, I need to check some rules for those attributes, but they are not appearing in the Extended Attributes section (in the screen). So it shows an error like: "The atrribute X needs Y value" and the attribute is already added to the project, but is nos visible.
    Also, I am printing in a file and for some reason the Custom code is getting called twice (but doesn't show the errors twice), do you know something about this? or do you have any recommendation/approach of how can I accomplish what I need?.
    Thanks,

  • NPD_Financial Role in NPD module

    Hi All,
    From what I understand, the idea behind the NPD_Financial role is that the system checks to ensure that users with the role set have access to financial metrics on projects where the user’s business unit matches the project’s business unit.  We’re trying to set up the system in such a way that only certain people within the organization can view the metrics on a business unit's projects and this role certainly seems to be the way to do it.  Two questions:
    Where does the system pull the user’s business unit from?  Users have a GSM Business Unit and a Business Unit filter available on their profile; these lists of business units do not correspond to the NPD list of business units (under ADMN > NPD > Business Units).
    How is a metric marked as being a financial metric?  There isn’t a toggle on the metric setup screen that I see.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Prem

    Carlos, you can now configure Stage names and gate names in the Data Admin Toolkit that comes with the Extensibility Pack.

  • NPD - no edit authorization in Activity's routing requirements TAB

    Hello,
    I set up all activity templates with several steps and several functional areas per step.
    It means each functional area is the owner of a specific step.
    These areas should be responsible for completing all assigned tasks within their step BUT they must not have permission to edit routing requirement TABs.
    Only one team (P2M Team) should be authorized to change "amber in/red in days", for example.
    This team is not necessarily owner of activity steps.
    Would it be possible to setup NPD module accordingly?
    Thanks and regards
    Daniele

    Hello,
    Thank you very much for your feedback.
    If it is so, I do not agree with this system design.
    Let's use the example you gave.
    we are in step 2 where the owner is P2M Team.
    You say the owner can make all changes he wants, in the routing requirement too.
    I previously set up in its related activity template as follows:
    in amber days : 10
    in red days : 20
    P2M team now goes and changes this setting as follows:
    in amber days : 100
    in red days : 200
    This team is lazy and does not want to go past deadlines.
    System does not keep track of it so P2M team can still blame other team to change it.
    Thanks and regards
    Daniel

  • NPD Tracking in DMS

    Hello Experts,
    I have a basic question which I can explain with a scenario :
    In an organisation, there wil be plenty of requirements for a new product from marketing/management/customers
    This will be documented  and then given to engineering. Engineering wil work on it in various stages like Basic Engineering , Detailed Engineering, Reviewer approval, Approver Approval, MM's creation in SAP, BOM creation.Pilot production, Mass Production etc.
    I want to capture these plenty of requirements in some form in SAP and a proper workflow using status network which will pass through all stake holders needs to be established. In any point of time, I should be able to track from which requirement, this product is created.Say, Dept A has 5 new requests which can be grouped under one request number, Dept B has 10 new product requirement which can be grouped into one request etc.
    What am looking is basically like in ECR/ECO, we can group all the change requests and follow up till the end. Even through change number, we can track what was modified etc. Like this, I am looking similar in NPDI but here, there wil be no revision updations.
    Can I make use of  Change Maste-ECR/ECO for this new product development or is there any other ways of doing it in SAP ?
    Awaiting for the proper solution,
    Regards,
    Mishra Summit.
    Edited by: sumith.mishra on Jun 18, 2011 2:49 PM

    All of the requests in your above post can be achieved using a combination of various components within SAP PLM & PPM I guess you are trying to systematize the entire process right from Idea management to product design, reviews and trying to track the products to the ideas portfolio management.
    I have a basic question which I can explain with a scenario ........I want to capture these plenty of requirements in some form in SAP and a proper workflow using status network which will pass through all stake holders needs to be established.
    Yes this can be achieved using SAP Document management system  functionality in combination with SAP workflow for routing the document, reviews and approvals etc
    In any point of time, I should be able to track from which requirement, this product is created.Say, Dept A has 5 new requests which can be grouped under one request number, Dept B has 10 new product requirement which can be grouped into one request etc.
    For NPD use the SAP PPM suite. You will be able to group various requirements / projects as initiatives, programs etc and will also have various other functionalities such as resource management, etc.
    Can I make use of Change Maste-ECR/ECO for this new product development or is there any other ways of doing it in SAP ?
    Using ECR / ECO for NPD is not a good idea.

  • NPD Metrics - how to extract from the database in a usable format

    Metrics for NPD activities and projects are stored in the database one row for each metric in each activity or project instance. If there are multiple metrics per activity instance, for example, extraction of those metrics yeilds only a list of metrics and values. I'd like to see it in more of a table style output. Can you provide some guidance on how to extract this from the DB using sql? Thx

    Here is the SQL that should help understand the structure. There are a few ways to pull this data in more of a column based approach. This should help you get started.
    select modml.baseName as MetricName, bases.name as Basis, ph.name as Phase,
    fy.name as FiscalYear, gl.Value as Value, UOM.ID as UOM, currml.Name as Currency
    from plmFieldExchangeGlobals gl
    inner join plmFieldExchangeDefinitions fed on fed.pkid = gl.FieldExchangeDefinitionPKID
    inner join plmFieldExchangeDefModels mod on mod.pkid = fed.fkFieldExchangeDefinitionModel
    inner join plmFieldExchDefinitionModelML modml on modml.fkFieldExchangeDefinitionModel = mod.pkid and modml.langID = 0
    inner join plmFieldExchangeBases bases on fed.fkFieldExchangeBasis = bases.pkid and bases.langID = 0
    inner join plmFieldExchangePhases ph on fed.fkFieldExchangePhase = ph.pkid and ph.langID = 0
    inner join plmFieldExchangeFiscalYears fy on fed.fkFieldExchangeFiscalYear = fy.pkid and fy.langID = 0
    left outer join UOM on UOM.pkid = mod.fkCommonUOM
    left outer join commonCurrenciesML currml on currml.fkCurrency = mod.fkCommonCurrency and currml.langID = 0
    where ProjectPKID = '320219992047-072a-4698-a553-de5ec124ff9c';
