6230i as a modem?

Hi
I have just set up my 6230i and it talks to my tomtom, my pda and syncs with nokia pc suite no problem. But i can't uses it as a modem to connect to the internet. It may be a driver problem - when 'found new hardware ' starts working it says its found a 6230 not a 6230i.
Anyone any ideas?

Bryngelli, so sorry, I misread your thread and thought you use IrDA.
First of all, if you have Nokia PC Suite installed, it includes all inf's so no separate modem inf file installation is needed.
Now it depends what Bluetooth stack (software) you are using with your Bluetooth hardware ?
YOu can get informaiton about your system by right clicking PC Suite phone icon in Windows tary (bottom right area in your screen), selecti "about PC Suite" and then "system info"
Only with Microsoft Bluetooth the PC Suite is able to install modems automatically, with all th other Bluetooth sw's you need to install the modems manually (instructions in PC Suite help "connecting to internet"
With Bluetooth you need to make sure that Bluetooth selection IS active in PC Suite "manage connections" and that you have run through the "get connected wizard" of PC Suite once.

  • Nokia 6230i BT Fax Modem not supported but INF fil...

I have a Nokia 6230i - response from querying the modem gives FCLASS? as zero (no fax support) but the INF file shows that fax support is there:
    HKR, Fax, SetupCommand,, "ATS7=255&D3"
    HKR, Fax, SerialSpeedInit,, "19200"
    HKR, Fax\Class2\AdaptiveAnswer\AnswerCommand, 1,, "ATS7=90S25=2"
    HKR, Fax\Class2\AdaptiveAnswer\AnswerCommand, 2,, "ATA"
    HKR, Fax\Class2\AdaptiveAnswer, ModemResponseFaxConnect,, "+FCO"
    HKR, Fax\Class2\AdaptiveAnswer, ModemResponseDataDetect,, "CARRIER"
    HKR, Fax\Class2\AdaptiveAnswer, ModemResponseDataConnect,, "CONNECT"
The Nokia 6320i does not appear in the list of valid modems for Microsoft Fax, though it is in the list of modems for data stuff. I can use it as a modem fine for data calls.
I have tried initialising the modem using the string specified ATS7=255&D3 but to no avail.
Surely there is some way of enabling the fax modem - by flashing the phone or something.....

Sorry George - don't think you can. After searching elsewhere it looks like fax support isn't something they bothered to implement on this phone's modem.
You need to check the feature list of the phone when you buy it if you want a fax-modem.
It seems completely unbelieveable that this isn't there as in the commercial modem market they all come with fax support. Just laziness that they didn't implement it I can only presume.
I got round this by setting up an account with efax.com and sending faxes via email.
Shame I know - but this actually works very nicely (you email the phone number @efax.com with the document you want to send attached) and I also get to have a backup of all received faxes (faxes to your number come in as email).
    Hope this helps

  • Nokia 6230i - can it work as a GPRS modem?

I've got a 'Safecom' USB Bluetooth Adaptor (aka the cheapest one on Ebuyer) and a 6230i. The phone happily pairs with my iBook, but that's about as far as it goes. When I try to send a file to the phone, it says 'unable to validate'. When I set up serial ports for the phone, it says 'could not get services'.
What I'd like to know is thus:
    1. What device service and port type do I set for this phone?
    2. Under sharing, what type do I set?
    3. Under Network setup, do I select the port that the phone automatically set up, or do I select the port I manually set up under Sharing? I ask because only the port I manually set up under sharing is identified as being a 'Bluetooth Modem' in Network Prefs.
    4. What exactly should happen when I go into Internet Connect and try to connect via bluetooth and my phone? As it stands, the phone sits and does nothing while Internet Connect tries to connect and then says 'there was a modem error'. I'm on the O2 network in the UK, if that makes any difference.
    5. What script should I be using off taniwha.org.uk?
Thanks for any help you can give me, I've been fighting this thing all afternoon.

    Jon,
Thanks for the advice... I'm so close to getting this to work that it's painful.
I actually phoned O2 yesterday and asked for the CID string, and was told it was this:
    +cgdcont=1,`ip',`mobile.o2.co.uk'
...which seems a bit odd. In fact, it almost sounds like what you'd type in if you couldn't get the settings sent to you via SMS.
Instead, I've gone for the 99**1# route (and variations thereof) and what's happening is the first time I click 'connect', it fails to reach the communication device (even though the phone and mac connect to each other). The second time, it almost immediately says the connection has failed, please check your settings and try again.
What's going through my mind now is this:
    1. This can't really be due to the USB dongle not being the ONE AND ONLY that OS X likes, can it? Why would everything else work exactly as it should via the dongle?
    2. Do I need to use that ridiculous CID string anywhere? My phone connects fine to GPRS on its own, surely that setting is already in and working, and the Mac doesn't need to know it?
    3. Do I need to type my APN (mobile.o2.co.uk) in anywhere? That's the only piece of information I haven't had a use for yet.
Thanks again to anyone who has info, I've been using Ross Barkman's site and also this: http://homepage.mac.com/jrc/contrib/tzones/

  • 6230i Bluethtooth modem missing

I have Nokia 6230i and whenever I try to connect to the interent using Nokia PC Suite 6.84 "Connect to the Internet" option I get a message saying "No Modem Found".
When I click settings there are no modems to select.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Nokia software but I get the same results.
I have also tried this on a different machine but get the same response. Both machines are HP notepads.

    Hi,
I also had problems with a USB Modem on my G5. I had to download a file from the manufacturers website (in my case BT) in order to get the modem to work on the mac.
Once the file was installed the modem was then listed in the drop down menu in the Network Port Configurations menu.
From there I was able to fill in the relevant username, password and telephone number.
I must add that I am changing the USB modem for a router/modem as the USB, in my opinion, is not suited to the G5
Hope this goes some way to help you as I know how frustrating this problem is. Perhaps others more experienced than myself will be able to give further advice.
    Good luck.

  • Nokia 6230i - Bluetooth modem

While trying to connect to the internet via my mobile phone connected to the pc by bluetooth (IVT Bluesoleil dongle), PC Suite says that no Nokia modem is installed and advises to make sure that the Nokia connectivity cable driver is installed, which is already the case.
I have no other bluetooth software installed on my computer, and I have the bluetooth icon in the control panel.
Any help with this is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    MK

Some precisions. I'm using XP SP2, Tablet PC edition. My computer is a tablet PC Averatec 3500 series.
I have already tried to unistall/reinstall IVT software ad Nokia PC Suite. For info, without Bluesoleil software, my dongle cannot work.

  • 6230i no modem found problem

When I try to connect to the internet through my mobile and DKU-5 cable it comes up 'no modem found'. When I go to Device manager it says the modem has a problem. Updating the driver just delivers an error message 'there was a problem installing this hardware...'
The annoying thing is it worked fine until I got an autmoatic update for the software. Since then I have had to sort the 'no available connection type' problem (solved with pc suite cleaner).
Anyone with any ideas how to solve the no modem found problem would be much appreciated.

  • Nokia 6230i Stand By mode

    Dear All:
I developed a software which reads the message from Cell and sent the sms reply. It is working fine.
Please note that Cell Phone is connected to PC thru DKU-5 and connect using Nokia PC Suite
    The only problem is that
After some hours phone shows the standby mode and connectivity lost with PC.
I would be really greatful, if someone can give me a solution or suggestion.

I have also used my a phone via a USB cable as a GSM Modem. The problem is that sometime after no activity when the phones goes into sleep mode, your connect is closed. This can be prevented by sending no-operation commads to the phone (like just plain AT) on a regular basis to prevent standby mode.
Experience and persistence are second to none just ask user one.

  • PcSuite Update & 6230i phone

    Hello all
I've updated to PcSuite 6.85.10.0, and i use a Nokia phone 6230i. After the update, the connection to internet via IrDA (using the carrier's predefined GPRS service)won't work anymore. When i activate the IR on the phone, the Pc sees it and the suite can open contents on it, but when i click on "Connect to Internet" i see "no modem installed", and if i click on "settings" i can't do anything. the IrDa Modem appears correctly in the list on the Control Panel
Can anyone help me? Here below the details of PC and the Suite
    OS:
Microsoft Windows XP Versione 32 bit, Service Pack 2
    Language: English
    non Unicode programs language: Italiano
    Browser Internet:
    - Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 (Browser predefined)
    Stack Bluetooth::
    - Microsoft (Version: 5.1.2600, Created: 2180)
    PC Connectivity Solution:
    Version 7.37.22.0
    thank you!

COntrol Panel - Add/Remove programs - PC Connectivity Solution -Change - Repair
(if this was about infrared, try also)
Open Pc Suite - Settings - Manage connections - untick infrared option and try after that Connection to internet.
(I know, no logic in what I am suggesting, but I do recall (but vaguely) that with infrared and nokia feature phones the infrared Pc Suite usage vs. modem usage where somehow conflicting, so unticking infrared would somehow "free" the connection to modem usage in windows. LIke said, does not hurt to try, but not sure if this works or not)
BTW, anyone else reading this and using infrared, this suggestion is highly depending on phone model, so not 100% suggestion for any phoné.

  • Bluetooth Modem disconnect/timeout

    Hi
I currently have a Eee Pc 1000he running windows xp and windows 7 rc. I have been trying to get my netbook to connect via bluetooth to my nokia e71 so that I can use internet when on the go. My issue is that when I connect to the handset everything works well but it seems to stop working after 5 - 10 minutes or so. The gprs internet still works fine yet no data goes thru the DUN connection anymore and my only option to get reconnected is to restart my phone. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can make the bluetooth modem connection more stable? This happens even if I have the phone right next to the netbook.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, it is interesting to note that this happens in both windows xp and windows 7 using the latest BT drivers for the netbook.

    @adfh:
there's a Hot Fix available from Microsoft, to resolve this issue, Did you installed that?
When we try to connect to internet using Ovi suite first time, Ovi suite tells us to download that hot fix, gives the link. so try that.

  • Using nokia mobile phone as a modem problem

I want to link up two computer (running XP) throughh two modems.
First, I set a PC that use 56k dailup modem as become a server (accept incoming connection), then connected by a PC that use nokia 6230 modem as a client and success. The 56k dailup can receive the call automatically and each PC can access the local area network to another.
However, it has a problem when i try to use 56k modem to connect to 6230. it seems 6230 treat the call as a voice call and not answer to it and I must set 6230 as a server in my place.
Then, i replaced the 56k dailup modem by a nokia 6610i and installed the lastest driver. However, the 6610i cannot dailup or receive call from 6230 except a voice call.
Finally, i try to borrow another 6230 from my friend (two 6230) and all works fine.
    My question is:
    1. How can I set 6230 modem as a server to accept connection from 56k dailup modem automatically?
    or
    2. How can I make connection between 6230 and 6610i (they work as modems)?
    or
    3. What fuctions can make 6230 to connect to a 56k modem? (is it fax??coz i want to make sure another model i buy has this function)
    Thanks
    Derek

    Thank you Seraphim.
I think you are right because i just borrowed another 6230i from my friend. Now i have 6230 and 6230i, the ringing tone of the server (receive side) is different to a vice call and the connection between two computers is success.
I'm sorry if I may have made a wrong post here because i still have a problem in configing my 6610i as a modem in my windows. I have tried the "nokia 6610i Cable" and "nokia 6610i Infrared" Modem driver. I cannot dailup a call or receive data call. I saw the 6610i was trying to call out but all the calls returned "Disconnected" and even my home phone cannot be rang.
All of the cases I have tried are (the mobile phone worked as modem):
6230i call to 6230 (result: connection success)
6230 call to 6230i (result: connection success)
6230 call to Voice Phone (result: normal ring)
6610i call to Voice Phone (result: no ring, disconnected)
6610i call to 6230 (result: no ring, disconnected)
6230 call to 6610i (result: no ring, disconnected)
I have tried to set the 6610i in different windows (xp and 2000) but still fail and i also tried to replace the sim. card in 6610i by the one in 6230 but still fail....so the one i could guess is my nokia 6610i modem driver has some problems but i'm using the one that i just download today 26/03/2004, 1.0.2.4.
Any help would be much appreciated.

  • N80 as modem via IrDA, not work?

I tried to connect my notebook to Internet using the N80. It works with the USB cable but not with IrDA. Is the IrDA in N80 not support this funtion?
    Noom..

There should be a specific modem driver.
Check your phone's companion CD, IIRC it's the bottom option when you let the menu start.Message Edited by getsurfers on 24-Oct-2006

  • 6230i Dial Up problem

    Hi All,
I have an O2 6230i which I'd like to be able to use to connect my PDA (Psion Netpad Windows CE 4.11) to the Internet with when / GPRS isn't available.
I enter all the ISP details on the PDA and try to connect to the 6230i via the Infrared port. All seems to go well, and the phone dials the number, but as soon as the call is connected, it is disconnected and the PDA displays a message "Cannot Detect Carrier". I've tried the same thing from my Laptop with much the same results.
I'm certain the ISP details are correct on the PDA as using a Nokia 6310i on Vodafone with the same details works correctly.
These leads me to several conclusions:
    1. The 6230i doesn't have an analouge modem in it.
    2. O2 are somehow blocking my attempts at phoning the number.
    3. I'm missing a setting somewhere in the phone that needs to tweaked.
    4. If this continues, I may loose what little sanity I have left
Could anyone offer me some guidance and/or things to try?
    Thanks,
    Martin.

Yeah possibility within the unit I guess. I know it's not the battery itself because his friend put it in his phone and worked perfectly. Not the charger either because the rest of the family use the same charger (all got Nokia). But yeah definitely could be. Seems strange as I couldn't find anything about it surfing, so may just be an isolated issue.

  • Issue to write/execute AT-commands for a 3G modem

    Dear community,
For the past month, I'm searching for some help on this topic without success, "you are my last hope"
After modification of the PPP parameters under network preferences (according the clear archive from apple support on this topic), the terminal windows is poping up without any problem.
Then... I can't write anything on this terminal !!! The only actions I'm able to perform is cancel or continue button. I also press the Return key as apple support mentioned (issue for 10.2 or earlier), nothing.
The test was done on a early 2010 macbook 13 and the same on a mid 2010 macbook 15, the same issue.
    - Am I doing something wrong or mac os restricted this com protocol?
    - Is there a way to command the modem trough the main computer terminal (which is working properly)?
    Thank you in advance!

You've probably solved this problem long ago, but I came across this thread a couple weeks ago when trying to do the same and thought I post this .vi for future users.  This code is for a multitech MT5656ZDXV modem, but I think the AT commands are generic enough to be used with any voice modem. Hardware configuration requires and audio cable running from the PC speaker to the modem mic port.  Also, I had to use a Konnex Office Konnector telephone line A/D which required me to manually pick up a handset; the software prompts the user to do this.  Fancier A/Ds should eliminate the need for this and I have one on order.  If you have an analog phone line then there should be no need to use an A/D or manually pick up the phone.
